Gunmen Kill Kwara Monarch, Abduct Wife, 2 Others, The traditional ruler of Koro town, Ekiti local government area, Kwara State, Oba Peter Olusegun Aremu-Cole, was tragically shot and killed on Thursday night by suspected kidnappers. His wife, an adopted child, and another individual were also abducted in the brazen attack.

Eyewitnesses describe the assailants as "Bororo Fulani" who stormed the palace around 9pm, firing shots indiscriminately. Panicked residents fled for their lives as the gunmen targeted the Oba on his veranda, where he was preparing for dinner.

Oba Aremu-Cole, a retired Brigadier-General and Electrical Engineer, ascended the throne in 2010 after his military service. His sudden passing has plunged the community into mourning.

"We are devastated," said Chief Ayobola Samuel, a former Permanent Secretary and Asiwaju of Koro. "The elders will convene tomorrow to determine our next steps. The police have been informed of this tragic incident."

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq condemned the attack in a statement, calling it "reckless, shocking, and abominable." He urged security forces to "deploy all resources to track down the perpetrators, free the abducted individuals, and bring them to justice."

This tragic event highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by communities in Nigeria. While the motive remains unclear, the governor's swift response and the determination of local leaders offer a glimmer of hope amidst the grief and outrage.

Celebrities / Nollywood Actor Kunle Afod, Wife Part Ways by Factnewsng(m): 9:10pm On Oct 25, 2022
Nollywood actor, Kunle Afod and wive, Desola, have called it quits after issues of infidelity.

https://factnewsng.com/2022/10/kunle-afod-wife-part-ways/

Desola Afod has ended her marriage to actor Kunle Afod after years of valiantly trying to hold it together despite her husband’s philandering behavior and social media embarrassments from his side chicks and baby mother.

The mother of four boys just confirmed the news on her Instagram profile by deleting all of their pictures. She also released the following statement: “The good news you wanna hear, I left Kunle Afod.”

This is coming after Kunle allegedly visited one of his baby mamas in the United States of America. He continued and posted this on the internet to spite Desola. She unfollowed him on social media in revenge, and he did the same for her.

Also, when Kunle Afod marked his birthday on Monday, Oct. 24th, 2022, Desola failed to celebrate him on any of social media pages.

When Desola Afod turned 40 in July, she admonished ladies on the kind of men to marry. That, for many, was a hint on what she was going through in her marriage.

She wrote, “For your mental-health, please date people who communicate, apologize, respect, love and are afraid to lose you.”

An Ilorin Magistrate Court, today, ordered the remand of two brothers; Dare Akogun and Abdulrasheed Akogun for allegedly defaming and inciting public against the government of Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq.

Meanwhile, their arraignment was preceded by a drama like scenerio with the corrections service officers stormed the court premises in a commando style, handcuffed the defendants and attempted wheeling them to prison without remand warrant.

The development members of the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) and senior colleagues in journalism, who were on ground, resisted in a peaceful protest saying such process is illegal, unconditional and it’s a radical display of power.

During the sitting, the prosecutor, Nasir Yusuf, informed the court that the police investigation over the matter is still ongoing praying for another date for adjournment.

On the issue of bail, Yusuf prayed the court to grant the applications seeking the remand of the defendants as contained in the motion exparte attached to the police report. He added that the motion is supported by eleven paragraph affidavit.

Magistrate Bio Salihu who presided over the matter however overruled the defendant’s Councel, Barrister Kehinde Eleja SAN from appearing before him.

Eleja argued that the defendants have the right to a legal representation and he has the choice to appear for them stressing that his appearance is backed by law.

The Magistrate insisted that accounding to the Kwara State law, he lack the jurisdiction to hear him on the basis of being Senior Advocate of Nigeria.

The however granted the prosecutor’s application for remand while the matter is adjourned to 19th of this month.

Earlier, members of the ASKOMP and other journalists who stormed the police headquarters in a peaceful protest against the detention of the defendants, were beaten teargassed, arrested and subsequently charged to court.

It would be recall that the Chief Press Secretary, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, through a petition letter to the Commissioner of Police accused them of defamation and inciting public against the government.

Ajakaye said Abdulrasheed posted a comment on the popular WhatsApp platform, Kwara Commission, accusing government of the day of being most corrupt and of facilitating fifteen million naira to prosecute the last election of the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Kwara State chapter.

Foreign Affairs / Everyone Wants Me To Run In 2024 – Trump by Factnewsng(m): 1:14pm On Sep 08, 2022
https://factnewsng.com/2022/09/everyone-wants-me-to-run-in-2024-trump/

Donald Trump has dropped another hint at a White House campaign in 2024, with the former US president telling Indian television that a run for office would “make a lot of people very happy”.

“Everyone wants me to run. I am leading in the polls,” Trump said in an excerpt of an interview with NDTV to be broadcast in full later on Thursday.

“In every poll, in Republican polls and in Democrat polls, and I will make a decision in the very near future, I suspect. And I think that a lot of people are going to be very happy,” he added.

The billionaire former reality TV star, 76, also repeated false claims that the 2020 election in which he lost to current President Joe Biden was rigged.

“There is tremendous proof, there is tremendous evidence,” Trump said.

The Republican has faced intense legal scrutiny over his efforts to overturn the results of the poll and over an attack on the US Capitol by his supporters on January 6 last year.

Since leaving office, he has remained America’s most divisive figure, continuing to sow falsehoods that he won the vote.

He is currently under investigation for potential mishandling of classified documents, with the FBI raiding his Florida home last month.

Trump has denied wrongdoing and called the raid “one of the most egregious assaults on democracy in the history of our country”.

In a speech on Saturday in Pennsylvania he hit back at assertions by Biden that he and his supporters are undermining US democracy, calling Biden an “enemy of the state”.

Nairaland / General / Atiku Proffer Solutions To Nigeria's Electricity Problem by Factnewsng(m): 9:57pm On Aug 18, 2022
How I’ll solve Nigeria’s electricity problem if elected president – Atiku

https://factnewsng.com/2022/08/how-ill-solve-nigerias-electricity-problem-if-elected-president-atiku/

The presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar, has revealed the step-by-step mechanism that would be followed to solve Nigeria’s electricity problem if elected into office.

The former Vice-President made this known in a post on his various social media pages on Thursday.

He said : “Having keenly observed and monitored developments in the power sector within the last 24 hours, I am again convinced that my solution to the electricity crisis, as encapsulated in my Policy Document, My Covenant with Nigerians, remains the most proactive plan to lead Nigeria out of darkness.

“In this regard, my approach is to first remove the entire electricity value chain from the exclusive list and give states the power to generate, transmit and distribute electricity for themselves. An industrial dispute with the FG in Abuja should not affect an industry in Lagos or a factory in Aba or in Kano or even an average Nigerian who just wants to get home, watch the news and sleep under a ceiling fan.

“Secondly, my policy shall aim at achieving greater coordination of investments in the entire electricity value chain. Investments in additional generation capacity are futile without consideration for the complementary transmission and distribution infrastructure to wheel the additional energy.

“Any investment in additional generation capacity would be competitively procured considering a viable mix of renewable (hydro, solar, wind and biofuels) and non-renewable (coal, gas) options for energy security.

” Thirdly, ahead of procuring additional generation, both transmission and distribution capacities would be enhanced with government and private sector support for investments. In this regard, we shall incentivize private investors to invest in the development of multiple green-field mini-grid transmission systems to be looped into the super-grip in the medium to long term while allowing the FG focus on policy, regulation, and standardization.

“My aspiration to be President is to protect the interest of the average Nigerian in all circumstances, and on this, I stand to say that I have no interest either directly or indirectly in any generator company, as has been publicly revealed.”

Tinubu: Fair is Foul Foul is Fair

By Abdullateef Ishowo

https://factnewsng.com/2022/06/tinubu-fair-is-foul-foul-is-fair-by-abdullateef-ishowo-ishowo/

Wait a minute! Whose hand holds the broom in the APC logo? How important is the hand or the broom to the logo? What happens, should the hand slacks?

Political parties' logos, ideologically or conservatively convey deeper meanings than we can ever imagine. This may not be unconnected to the importance of logo to the ideological stand of a political party. A logo is a visual representation of the mission, values and vision of a brand. Political parties therefore choose a logo that appeals to the minds of potential voters. From APC's green, white, blue and red to PDP's green, white and red; each components of the logos are chosen for a reason.

For instance, the most significantly conspicuous symbol of the PDP logo is the umbrella. This was designed to resonate with the voters' desperate need to have a shade that would prevent the inhumane sunning environment the military was leaving behind. While the most important symbol of the APC logo remains the broom and the hand holding it. At its formation in 2013, the broom in the logo was the symbol appealing to Nigerians to sweep the then ruling PDP out of Aso Rock. Holding the broom very tight is a hand, whose owner is yet to be revealed.

At its inception, APC was generally considered to be a centre-left political party that favours controlled market economic policies. A substantial number of its founding members are followers of or politicians who subscribe to social democratic political philosophy of Obafemi Awolowo in the South western part of the country.

In politics however, fair is foul and foul is fair. This explains why over the years, particularly since the second half of Buhari's first term, the party welcomed all comers who have infiltrated its beautiful ideological stand. Ever since, things have been falling apart and the center has refused to hold.

The umbrella in the PDP logo was not held by any visible hand. It was allowed to stand delicately on its own. Hence, every member contributed to the heavy storm that breezed away the umbrella, fissuring the rock.

Behold! Whose hand is holding the broom in the APC logo? Buhari's or Tinubu's Should the hand belong to the 'emilokan' of Yoruba nation, a slit in his neck at the party primary election scheduled to take place next Tuesday will automatically loosen the hand, and the broom will scatter like a pack of cards. On the other hand, if the hand belongs to the body of Dan-Fulani of naija, Bubu is already loosing the grip and his hand will naturally drop the broom, allowing it to scatter on the ground like a battered elephant. Bubu is no longer interested and doesn't care what becomes of the party.

However, whichever side of the coin you favour is politically immaterial; as fair is foul and foul is fair. The 'Emilokan' of Yoruba nation has goofed and politically miscalculated. The Fulanis had never been for him and they won't now. He was merely a tool in their hands, and now that the mission has been accomplished, they are done with him.

The 'emilokan' of Yoruba nation failed to learn from history. If he did, he would have realized that his region had never decided for the Fulanis and that can't change now. He was around when it happened to Awolowo and later Abiola, he needs not be reminded. Oshinbajo is to Tinubu what Akintola was to Awolowo; nothing has changed. They know how to manipulate you against one another. They are the master of the game. They patiently learned the skills from the British colonialists while you were busy studying theories in the university. Theories don't rule the world, skills do. Your tribe calls them animals, they agree but you are the grass they feed on. Head or tail, they hold the ace as we approach 2023 general elections.

Let me break it down, if PDP wins, it's the North that rules and since they decide who flags your party in the election, either another Fulani or a southerner, the fellow shall do their bidding. So you see why they are the master of the game?

They deliberately chose a southerner, Odiege Oyegun, your political foe to head the kangaroo panel that disqualified you from participating at the party primary; just to pay you in same coin. Remember you ousted him out of party chairmanship position to pave way for Osho Baba, your stooge? They have failed on this coup and that explains why virtually all northern governors and Baba himself have suddenly come out to support southern candidacy. With this latest development, the 'emilokan' of Yoruba nation shall participate in the primary, he might not win. And if he does, the party has lost its unity.

What criteria would the panel have used to disqualify Baba Leko. Well, fair is foul and foul is fair. Or how do you justify Governor Obaseki's disqualification in the 2020 APC primary in Edo state? Courtesy of Osho Baba and the Lord of Bordillion. What about the kangaroo primary that produced the 'unity group' as against the 'like-minds' in the rundown to NASS election in June 2015? What was the criteria used that edged Bukola Saraki and Yakubu Dogara out of the APC kangaroo primary? Though, Saraki would later outsmart them all to cling the seat of senate presidency. The rest, they say, is history. Fair is foul and foul is fair. What about the Ambode treatment in Lagos 2018 APC primary? Fair is foul and foul is fair.

The next 48 hours portend a doomsday for the party, as the house seems to have fallen. Should the landlord be favoured, the tenants will seek abode somewhere else and vice-versa.

No doubt, the 'emilokan' of Yoruba nation deserves the ticket, as he had paid his due but in politics, 'fair is foul and foul is fair'. Apology to Shakespeare.

El-Rufai withdraws Kaduna delegates pledge to Tinubu, says Amaechi stronger aspirant

https://factnewsng.com/2022/05/el-rufai-withdraws-kaduna-delegates-pledge-to-tinubu-says-amaechi-stronger-aspirant/

Delegates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State on Sunday, pledged to give their votes to Presidential Aspirant and outgoing Minister of Transportation, Rt Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

The delegates made the decision two days after they had promised same to another visiting presidential aspirant, stating that the earlier pledge by some of the delegates to that aspirant was a spur of the moment decision which no longer stands.

Addressing the delegates during the consultative visit by Amaechi to the State, Governor El Rufai said, “I told you when you made that pledge to Asiwaju that others may not come, because of what you have done. You made that choice without listening to anyone else. Today you have seen the difference. You’ve heard Amaechi, you’ve seen what he has done. And he has brought a very strong security team. So you know what will happen with our security if he is in charge.”

“What are you going to do? Who are you supporting now? You have a huge burden on you, and you must choose what is best for Kaduna and for Nigeria,” El Rufai said.

He further narrated his experience of the goodness and sterling leadership qualities of Amaechi, from when he was Governor till date, and why President Muhammadu Buhari has high regard for him. He described Amaechi as a friend who sticks closer than a brother, stating that he is trustworthy.

“Let me tell you my history with Governor Amaechi….When we started discussing with the G-7, the seven governors that wanted to defect to the APC, I was holding nocturnal meetings with Governor Amaechi and Governor Nyako of Adamawa State until we got five of them to move to our party, and that was the game changer. And for you to understand how difficult it is, imagine Governor Amaechi of Rivers State from the same South South with incumbent President Jonathan. He made the sacrifice to move to our party. It was a game changer. This is part of the reason why President Buhari loves Minister Amaechi till tomorrow.

“One time the SSS wanted to arrest me, that I wrote something. Governor Amaechi called and said I will take you there and I will not leave until they let you go, what did you do? He took me there in his car and stayed there until they let me go. Till tomorrow, my wife will never forget that. Amaechi is her favourite Nigerian.

“I’m putting this in context so you’ll understand. APC is one family and this primary is an internal competition. We don’t need to call each other names, but let us bring out the virtues and good character of everyone. It is up to you as delegates to make the best choice for Nigeria,” the Governor stated.

Governor El-Rufai then asked the delegates who is their choice for President, to which the delegates unanimously chorused “Amaechi” and “Dan Amanar”, the traditional Daura title of Amaechi.

Speaking on behalf of the delegates, Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt Hon. Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, declared that Kaduna State delegates have reached the conclusion to give all their votes to the Dan Amanar Daura, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi.

Unknown gunmen have assassinated the Director of Operations of the Kaduna Geographic Information Service (KADGIS), Malam Dauda.

Factnewsng learnt that Dauda was assassinated early hours of Friday (today), at his residence in Barakallahu community of Igabi Local Government Area of the state.

Barakallahu community is located along the Kaduna-Zaria Expressway, a few kilometers from Kaduna metropolis.

The gunmen were said to have made their way into the deceased’s private residence through a different way other than the gate where the guard was stationed and killed him.

They reportedly did not cart away any valuables from the house.

It was also learnt that the men of the underworld escaping after killing the Dauda, attacked a nearby community. No casualty has been recorded from the attack.

The incident was confirmed to journalists by the District Head of the community, Alhaji Muhammad Abdullahi.

He said that the Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) of Rigachikun and Barnawa Police Divisions, who are residents of the community, had visited the scene of the crime.

Abdullahi said, “This is simply a case of assassination because they went to only the victim’s house, killed him and left the community, they did not take anything in his house neither did they attack the guard and his wife.

“Even in the other village that was attacked, no life was lost, they just caused commotion and left. We feel they just did that to make it look like the usual attack.

“We have been facing various security breaches in the community informed by the vast ungoverned land taken over by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF). You know we were in court, we won at the High Court but they appealed the case at the Appeal Court here in Kaduna.”

He urged the government to intervene in the matter between the community and NAF over the vast land which he said has remained a hiding place for criminals.

At the time this report was filed, the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Muhammad Jalige, could not be reached on his mobile phone.

Nairaland / General / Burkina Faso: Lt Col Damiba Declared President By The Constitutional Council by Factnewsng(m): 1:12pm On Feb 11, 2022
Burkina Faso junta chief declared President

https://factnewsng.com/2022/02/11/burkina-faso-junta-chief-declared-president/

Burkina Faso’s new military strongman, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, has been announced president by the country’s top constitutional body after a coup last month, legal sources said Thursday.

They said the Constitutional Council on Wednesday discovered that “Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, lieutenant-colonel in the national armed forces, leader of the Patriotic Movement for Preservation and Restoration (the official name of the junta), is the president” of Burkina Faso.

Damiba is likewise head of state and preeminent commander of the armed forces, it added. The move affirmed a declaration by the junta on January 31 that said Damiba would be appointed to those jobs for a momentary period and would be helped by two VPs.

In a proclamation issued later Thursday, the Constitutional Council said that Damiba’s conventional swearing-in would occur on February 16 in the capital Ouagadougou.

On January 24, disappointed officers led by Damiba constrained out the country’s elected president, Roch Marc Christian Kabore, who had confronted a rush of public indignation regarding his treatment of a horrendous jihadist insurgency.

Confronting strain from Burkina Faso’s accomplices in West Africa, the junta last week turned around its suspension of the constitution and rejected a short-term time limitation.

Yet, the central question of a date for elections stays agitated.

On January 24, the junta pledged to re-establish “constitutional order” inside a “sensible time”.

On Saturday, it declared that a 15-member commission would be set up fully intent on “drawing up a draft charter and plan, along with a proposal for the length of the progress time frame.”

The panel will be given fourteen days in which to report back. One of the world’s least fortunate and most unstable countries, Burkina Faso is battling with a jihadist crusade that has asserted in excess of 2,000 lives and constrained around 1.5 million to escape their homes.

The country has been suspended from the West African alliance ECOWAS, although it escaped sanctions following last week’s Burkina Faso’s new military strongman, Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, has been declared president by the country’s top constitutional body after a coup last month, legal sources said Thursday.

They said the Constitutional Council on Wednesday determined that “Paul-Henri Sandaogo Damiba, lieutenant-colonel in the national armed forces, president of the Patriotic Movement for Preservation and Restoration (the official name of the junta), is the president” of Burkina Faso.

Damiba is also head of state and supreme commander of the armed forces, it added. The move confirmed an announcement by the junta on January 31 that said Damiba would be appointed to those roles for a transitional period and would be assisted by two vice presidents.

In a statement issued later Thursday, the Constitutional Council said that Damiba’s formal swearing-in would take place on February 16 in the capital Ouagadougou.

On January 24, disgruntled officers led by Damiba forced out the country’s elected president, Roch Marc Christian Kabore, who had faced a wave of public anger over his handling of a bloody jihadist insurgency.

Facing pressure from Burkina Faso’s partners in West Africa, the junta last week reversed its suspension of the constitution and scrapped an overnight curfew.

But the key issue of a date for elections remains unsettled.

On January 24, the junta vowed to re-establish “constitutional order” within a “reasonable time”.

On Saturday, it announced that a 15-member commission would be set up with the goal of “drawing up a draft charter and agenda, together with a proposal for the duration of the transition period.”

The panel will be given two weeks in which to report back. One of the world’s poorest and most volatile countries, Burkina Faso is struggling with a jihadist crusade that has asserted in excess 2,000 lives and constrained around 1.5 million to escape their homes.

The country has been suspended from the West African bloc ECOWAS, despite the fact that it got away from sanctions following last week’s rebuilding of the constitution. On Wednesday, the UN Security Council expressed “genuine worry” over Burkina Faso’s “unconstitutional change of government,” however decided not to portray it as a military coup or even denounce it altogether.

Shonga Farms Loan: How Abdulrazaq Got His Priority Wrong

https://factnewsng.com/2022/02/10/shonga-farms-loan-how-abdulrazaq-got-his-priority-wrong/

The Kwara State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has admonished the state governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for getting his priority wrong by exerting energy to spread lies on the Shonga Farms loan issue in which the state suffered no loss to the neglect of numerous issues threatening the lives, livelihood, and peace of the people of the state.

In a statement signed by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Tunde Ashaolu, the PDP noted that in his 32 months in office despite the various sad occurrences in which people lost their lives, jobs, their houses, and in which the state has come under attacks by insurgents and other criminals, Abdulrazaq never deemed it necessary to address a press conference and he is planning to address one this morning because he thought he could blackmail his predecessors in office.

“While we await the outcome of his maiden press conference specifically being organised this morning on the loans procured by Shonga farms in which the state holds 20 percent equity, we want to state that if the Kwara State Governor and his key aides knew their onions, they would have taken appropriate measures to save the state property from any threat.

“It is not possible for the Kwara State government to use any property as collateral for any form of loan. Also, Kwara State is just one of the five shareholders in the Shonga Farms and if the company defaults in the payment of any loan, why is AMCON not attaching the property of the four banks that also hold shares in the company? AMCON’s lawyers in the new unethical practice that we now witness chose Kwara State as a soft target knowing that the people in charge of government are not only ignorant but they are also ever ready to play politics with every and any issue.

“ The right thing should have been for the government to defend its property by going to court to join issues with AMCON. In any case, the case is still at the court of the first instance, and even then the matter has not been decided at that level. There are still two appellate courts where the matter can be contested.

“The party will adequately and appropriately respond to any issue that the Governor may raise during the press conference. We are prepared because we have all the facts and we know the then governor when Shonga Holdings was incorporated did not do anything wrong.

“What we are witnessing today is the kind of wicked, uncaring, ignorant, insensitive, and manipulative person heading the government of Kwara State. This issue is his priority because he thought he could use it to blackmail his predecessors and once again spread falsehood. We hope he will today admit that Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki has no share in Shonga Farm contrary to the earlier lies he and his cohorts had been spreading”, Asahaolu stated.
