W.African bloc to give I.Coast's Gbagbo ultimatum
Fri Dec 24, 2010 6:57pm GMT

ABUJA Dec 24 (Reuters) - West African regional bloc ECOWAS said on Friday it will send a special envoy to the Ivory Coast to tell incumbent president Laurent Gbagbo he must stand down or face "legitimate force".
The 15-nation body also said after a summit in Nigeria's capital Abuja it would convene a meeting of the countries' defence chiefs of staff to plan for potential action, should Gbagbo not back down.

Ivory Coast is locked in an election standoff in which 200 people have been killed after incumbent Gbagbo claimed victory in the presidential election on Nov. 28 which the United Nations and many foreign goverments say was won by rival Alassane Ouattara.

@Faeb
The 'middle belt' actually has more people in the military than the 'north' does.
Furthermore, a large part of the people in this 'middle belt' identify themselves as being 'northerners'.
My reasoning? Most of the people that I live around are 'middle belters', Gwaris, Nupes, Tivs etc, who consider themselves 'dan arewa'.
The sokoto caliphate also stretched all the way down below the Niger river

Middle Belters tend to occupy the lower officer cadres only, while those in higher cadres have traditionally been left out of strategic commands.

Going further, Campbell who was U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria up till 2007 when Dr. Robin Rene Sanders took over, added that while Niger Delta should be viewed as a colony, the “imperialists in that case are not some foreign country, but some other parts of Nigeria.”

Even foreigners can see the problems the core Northern cabals have foisted on Nigeria.

We need another deep purge in the army.
Let the officer cadre be immediately populated with Middle Belters as a stop gap to gradual North-South equity. Over to you Jonathan and Ihejirika, no smiling.

The conditions that result in kids with begging bowls while they should either be getting love at home or an education in school, are what Northern cabals and scarecrow politicians like Ciroma should be looking at and with unswerving urgency too.
There are an estimated 10 million almajiri's suffering various forms of child abuse, mental degradation and dehumanisation, to the extent that they are desperate enough to kill for the price of a bootle of kunu. Yet, some thieving and uncaring "leaders" can only think of crap like zoning and "our turn."

Nigeria has too many problems to deal with without shameless old men injecting ethnic bigotry and mediocrity into politics. How do you explain that the best half Nigeria's population can come up with is Atiku, a man that is the target of investigation by the US Senate and FBI for weighty financial crimes? That can only be the result of neanderthal reasoning by minds twisted and warped with bigotry.

You are assuming everyone that registers a SIM is within the voting age? and you have failed woefully to understand that in Nigeria, some people carry up to four mobile phones with them, and you want a national ID card system to be based on that and on the INEC voter register? hmmmm. Techie baba. You have also assumed that everyone has a travelling passport, hence the same database will suffice for all??

One database can suffice.
There is no reason why Sim card registration, voters registration and national ID data, Births and Deaths etc cannot all hang of the same authoritative central store that will hold census data. It makes little sense to do it any other way.

The purpose of SIM registration is to tie a phone to a living person (or someone who owned it while alive).
Voter registration is done to ties a person of voting age to a ward and address at election time (can track changes from where they were at census time).
The national ID card ties a persons photo and other biometric data in a way that aids easy identification (can be compared to what was recorded at census time).

All the above are dependent on the existence of people, and that existence is recorded in census data. They are all simply different views of the same data.

Nupe Congress Faults Atiku's Northern Candidacy

6 December 2010

The Nupe Congress has rejected former vice President Atiku Abubakar as the PDP consensus candidate for the north, saying the process of his selection was faulty.

The congress argued that the Malam Adamu Ciroma- led Northern Political Leaders Forum (NPLF) did not carry along the Nupe people in the selection of Atiku stressing that the only woman presidential candidate of Nupe extraction, Mrs. Sarah Nnadzua Jibril, was inexplicably excluded from the exercise.

Spokesman of the congress, engineer Y. Y. Sani, said yesterday in Abuja that the issue of zoning and rotation of political offices, being purely a PDP affair, would not have attracted any comments from the Nupe Congress if not for the claim by NPLF that it acted on behalf of the geographical region called north.

All this votes were to be checked by the Executives, who actually control the purse strings. But seeing as the President is always afraid and is lame duck, they don't get challenged. It's more of a rub-my-back-I-rub-your-back kind of thing. When last has the legislature investigated any wrong spend by the executives.

It is the abdication of duty by the Executives that is making the legislators get away with it. And when it now comes to an extra N1,000.00 increase for workers, the President has to consult the Council of State!  shocked shocked grin grin

The fault is in the useless constitution we inherited from the army. It has nothing to do with the President or the Executive.
How can the President stop those who can sack him, but who he can't sack? The only way is to go the masses and explain matters to them. We are the only checks and balances against the NASS. Nothing will happen until we take to the streets and threaten revolution.

Now it has been made known to us through a coordinated move by the finance bosses. What are we ready to do about it?

Hmmmm, all across the politics thread and wherever GEJ is mentioned. Otherwise you can redeem yourself by stating in equivocal terms other than the South-South, minority, turn of others argument on why GEJ should be President.

By the way, if not for the zoning crap, which is for ethnic bigots, how did your GEJ get to be VP to Yar'adua? or even DG to Alamieseya? Or why did he not support a Northern Chairman for PDP?

You really need to get a life!
I have never ever promoted zoning, like I said before, that is left for ethnic bigots and underdeveloped minds.

And those Northerners ain't Nigerians?

And come to think of it, your drumming that it's the South-South's turn doesn't imply a South-South consensus candidate, does it? It's high time GEJ and his supporters stop all this divisive noise around the Northern consensus candidacy, it's about politics and selecting one out of many to present a unified front is very much acceptable. It doesn't make him any less Nigerian. Come to think of it, Yar'adua that picked GEJ as VP was also a a form of Nothern consensus candidate, why didn't GEJ make noise as of that time? Or was Yar'adua more Nigerian than others?

Where have you ever seen me argue that it is the SS turn? Zoning talk (like "consensus" crap) is for ethnic bigots and underdeveloped minds.

A former chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission, Hamma Tukur has asked members of the National Assembly to return all allowances and salaries they collected illegally from the nation’s treasury.
Mr Tukur who said this during a radio programme (Raypower) at the weekend, noted that the 469 Senators and members of the House of Representatives are being unfair to the country if the reports are true that they collect allowances above what the commission stipulated.
According to him, the commission recommended and approved a total package of N954,096.60 monthly for a senator and N794,084.95 for each member of the House of Representatives.

Ok, lets get the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission to stipulate realistic salaries and bonuses, well below Obama's pay packet, cos those weavels do not deserve their vampire salaries.

how do patents get stolen in broad daylight in the land of intellectual property rights

you can fool some of the people all the time, all the people some of the time . . . no need to finish.

emegwali has forgotten the cardinal rule of people of dubious  pedigrees - stay under the radar.

he could have continued indefinitely if he wasn't courting so much attention, though considering the fact that he's a nigerian, and ibo, that may have been impossible.

the response from exxonmobil is inevitable - since his published rebuttal contained more noisy claims - that exxonmobil has been using his scribblings or some such

Patents are not the only form of Intellectual Property. I have not based a single argument on patents, so your arguments absolutely miss the mark.
Intellectual Property includes trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets etc.

It is undisputable that Emeagwali invented the first algorithm for petroleum reservoir simulation that employs pseudo-time Navier-Stokes equations. While algorithms are not patentable, it is still a fact that all oil companies employ  his work either directly or indirectly; therefore, it is highly suspect and disingenious, after these decades, for ExxonMobile to suddenly deny Emeagwali's influence. Why? Have they lined up names to change history to disavow Emeagwali and hand his achievements to Tom Smith? Yes, why?

Emeagwali might be a showman who has been dishonest several times over, but that is his only crime (for which he has been punished enough already). The fact remains that he is the sort of talent that no sensible country throws under the bus.

After decades, the likes of ExxonMobile and Los Alamos labs who have aknowledged Emeagwali on their websites, are suddenly disowning him "coincidentally" at a time that braindead, inferiority complex ridden fools that call themselves his countrymen have been competing with themselves in a vulture pageant to bring him down.
Of course, it doesn't occur to the fools that the sudden "realisation" by international institutions and multi-nationals is connected to the huge outpouring of Nigeria's national inferiority complex.

In countries that have a sense of direction, people with brains are cultivated, not pulled down by jealous hoards. Yet, people wonder why Nigeria is not developing.
Politics / Re: Exxonmobil, Others Disown Emeagwali by Faeb: 3:49am On Dec 06, 2010
Emeagwali was the first to apply pseudo-time to reservoir modeling for the petroleum industry. That can never be taken away from him.

But by telling needless lies and making huge exagerations, Emegwali has given those who would beg for the opportunity to lick his boots an arsenal to hunt him with; yes there are many who cannot stand the gifts the man has due to their own low self esteem, so like fools, they help foreigners pull our own down.

If you have never heard of pseudo-time, you could get a feel here:

So he has been in informal talks with the National Democratic Party and yet he is denying the obvious, that his word is as cheap as akara:

. . . pointing out that “there was no marathon’ meeting in Kano, Kaduna, Minna and Lagos over the purported plan to jettison the consensus arrangement.
“We also wish to state that in as much as we appreciate the support, endorsement and open invitation of the leadership of the National Democratic Party, NDP, towards General IBB, there has never been any platform where formal dialogue was entered into,” Afegbua said.

“Before now, the National Democratic Party has been in support of the presidential aspiration of the former President that is why we do not see its present support as something new”.

Poor Atiku! He can only rely on his laundered 40 billa, and other staggering sums stolen while in govt.
