but if there is room for pardon, there should also be severe punishment for corrupt individuals cos most corrupt Nigerians will be looking forward to such pardon. efforts should be made to eradicate corruption to the bearest minimum. |

No doubt El rufai made alot of sense in his interview this mrg, i must say...but he can neva be trusted, most of the things he said was becos of his political interest, if really there r serious, the should initiate the move.. |

Camilia247: IS THIS A RIGHT MOVE? https://www.nairaland.com/1222995/sacking-demuren-ncaa-dg-president i think NLders should follow this link to say if itz right or wrong move |

i wouldnt know if it is a good or wrong move owing to the fact that the minister is still sitting tight in office, the aviation sector needs complete over hauling and not just the sacking of one, over the past one year there've been alot of negligence in the path of aviation management staff starting frm the Minister down to the casual workers, and these lapses were so obvious that most times when you are in any of the Nigerian airports, one can't help but shake his head in pity and shame...just somedays ago, the was no light in abj airport, when the could have provided alternative measures while trying to do woteva upgrade the said the were carrying out...that shows a high level of incompetence on the side of the management.. Sacking the DG at least shows that the President takes time to look into these issues, but timing matters, wot needs to be done, needs to be done fast, somehow it is good o, but the Minister should go too. Also, Someone should plz advise the President that our Police needs similar overhauling, take away dis tired lads and let vibrant, agile officers handled affairs, anyway i dnt want to say much abt dat. 1 Like |

I always knew that this man neva liked christains, he had displayed a similar durin those intense boko haram attacks period, and he justified their attacks. Like the sayin goes, "out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh", so did rufai voice that which was inherent in his heart. I'm not surprise though, cos he is such a gud pretender who in uses every possible means to mislead the younger generation. I remember vividly when Elrufai openly condemn Buhari that he was too old to contest when he felt Buhari was going to put a strong fight in his political career (before his fallout with Obj), suddenly all his support was on Buhari, that Nigeria needs a leader like buhari, gooshhh! I was amazed, then i realised who rufai was, a man neva to b trusted, a man who uses any means whether good or bad, or wit deceipt, he doesnt care whether it causes damage to the system or not as long as he achieves wot he so desires. Too bad, Nigerians really need to be mindful of this man, he isnt trustworthy. |

The North’s premier socio-political organisation, the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), has listed ways out of the Boko Haram insurgency. Boko Haram (western education is a sin), whose attacks have led to the death of thousands of people and paralysed economic activities in Borno and Yobe states, last month offered to talk with the government. As the government weighs the option presented by the group to facilitate the talks, the ACF has raised a 10-point solution to the insurgency. The Forum demanded that all those arrested on suspicion of committing any offence relating to security challenges in the region should be investigated and prosecuted “without undue delay”. It asked Federal and state governments that had raised committees and panels on security challenges in the North to implement the recommendations of such committees without immediately. Besides, the ACF is seeking the adoption of the United Nations (UN) ratio of one policeman to 400 citizens in the country. The ACF called for the removal of immunity clause in the 1999 Constitution to make the President and governors more transparent and efficient. The suggestions are contained in a 19-page “Roadmap for peace, unity and development of Nigeria.”. The roadmap, exclusively obtained by The Nation, was submitted to the Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, by ACF Chairman Alhaji Aliko M. Mohammed. The ACF said: “Operatives of intelligence and security agencies must be given adequate training and retraining on a continuous basis. They must be well-equipped and motivated. “There should be a complete and purposeful reorganisation and reorientation of the Police to make (a) the beat constable more efficient and effective;(b) the investigator to exercise independence, professionalism and efficiency in order to achieve good results(c) members of the Police Force themselves to respect the human rights of citizens as enshrined in the Constitution. “Ensure proper screening of the background of all prospective police recruits using police apparatus and traditional institutions i.e. ward, village and district heads, Emirate Council and similar outfits in other parts of the country. “Continuously screen the existing manpower of security agencies, weed out the unfit and train and continuously retrain. “The procedure laid down for military take-over from the police during civil unrest or disorder should be revised and strictly adhered to. The current practice of deploying the military too frequently on police duties should be discouraged. All such deployments should be given adequate legal cover. “Those arrested on suspicion of committing an offence should be investigated properly and prosecuted without undue delay. “Government should undertake total reform of the criminal justice system in order to achieve speedy dispensation of justice. “There is continuing debate about the desirability of “State Police” but this should be avoided as we are still not politically mature enough to ensure that it is not abused. “In the wake of rising wave of rising security challenges across the country, the Federal and state governments raised various committees and panels to investigate and recommend ways of addressing the problems. Governments are urged to as much as possible implement the recommendations of these panels without further delay to sustain the public confidence in such committees. “The Police Council, in conjunction with the Inspector-General of Police, should work out an establishment for the Force, based on the United Nations ratio one policeman to 400 citizens The distribution of the agreed figure should be made on pro-rata basis. “Thereafter, other factors, such as industrialization, crime wave, sophistication and so on should be taken into consideration to determine deployment to the states. “Statistics should show the manpower contribution by each state to the Federal Police and, if any state exhausts its quota, no recruitment should be made from that state until vacancy occurs. “This will enhance the sense of belonging and provide opportunity for employment of qualified citizens in the North. It will also check the dominance of the police by a section of the country. “State governors should therefore closely monitor the recruitment of their citizens in the Police.” Besides security challenges, the ACF called for the removal of the immunity clause from the 1999 Constitution to enable the president and governors be more transparent and efficient. The roadmap said: “Political leaders must show greater openness and accountability. The most serious impediment to the realization of the goals of peace, security and development is corruption, which fosters bad governance. Bad governance leads to all sorts of evil; treasury looting, misplacement of priorities, nepotism, injustice and distortion of national ideals and moral values. “There is noticeable disconnect in the country between the citizens and governments at all levels. As a result of rampant corruption, there is also noticeable dwindling of resources available to governments. More positive impact will be made by governments in people’s welfare, if leaders take concrete steps to eliminate corruption at all levels. “The immunity clause in the constitution, which is intended to allow governors and the President to do their work unhindered, has become a cover behind which some hide to drain the treasury with impunity. This clause should be expunged from the Constitution. “No group is so pampered by the corrupt Nigerian environment, is so protected from the consequences of their actions and so compensated for their inadequacies than political office holders. As a result, politics seems to be the only thriving in the North. Good governance needs to be enthroned to reverse this ugly trend.” http://thenationonlineng.net/new/news/how-to-end-boko-haram-attacks-by-acf/ |

all we need is sanity in the petroleum sector, if the report is inconclusive, then Ribadu shud be ask to complete it cos he seems to have the zeal and urge to do the job, but the report should be implemented..and all offenders punished, not to arraign them in court and grant them bail, like in the case of Tukur's son and accomplices 1 Like |

The wave of terror attacks in Nigeria on Tuesday took a new turn as a suicide bomber attempted to blow up an Arik Air plane flying from Maiduguri to Abuja. A suspected member of the Boko Haram sect who had boarded in Maiduguri, Borno State got up midair and told all the passengers to say their last prayers. As he brought out the explosive device, he disclosed that his main targets were the white people in the aircraft. The explosive device however failed to detonate before the plane landed in Abuja. Police bomb experts moved in and the terrorist was arrested when the plane touched down in Abuja. The attempt on the airline has shown the dynamism of the dreaded Islamist sect. Meanwhile, the Joint Task Force had earlier hinted that the sect has plans to launch attacks on Sallah day. http://news.naij.com/12561.html 1 Like |

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan will today present the 2013 budget to a Joint session of the National Assembly. The budget presentation to both the House of Representatives and the Senate was shifted by the Presidency by one week, just as it was earlier slated for last week, October 4, following a letter from President Jonathan to Senate President David Mark. It became compulsory to postpone the event owing to the fact that the Lower Chamber which should be part of the process, adjourned plenary for one week to enable the members to carry out oversight functions on the Ministries, Departments and Agencies, MDAs to ascertain how the 2012 budget must have been implemented as that will form the basis of what they will ask the presidency as the president presents the 2013 budget today. As the President visits the Senate, staff of the National Assembly have been urged to report very early as the joint session would commence at 10am. Is this Presentation timely, or would he hav waited till nxt yr. |
