... _inaugurates committee for G5 Football Competition_

First Media Naija Tv | July 11, 2022

In furtherance of efforts to promoting peace and unity through sports development in Okobo Local Government Area, a leading philanthropist and community supporter has donated a standard Goal - Post to Government Primary School Utine in Okobo Local Government Area, and in the spirit, inaugurated a sports committee to plan for G5 Unity Football Competition.

For the sake of clarity, a goal post is one of usually two vertical posts that with or without a crossbar constitute the goal in various games. The goalposts are two upright stations or posts which accommodate the nets behind it. The post along with the net is collectively regarded as the goal. The posts are placed on both the ends of the football field. It has two vertical uprights connected by a horizontal crossbar.

Pastor Franklin Madiesim, who is a humanitarian apart from being a philanthropist is the founder and Director of Our Right as Children Foundation - (ORACF)

According to him, “I am passionate about peace, unity and sports development. This goal post is to help improve sports in our communities.” He added that with this, the pupils and community youths alike can play football professionally.

He explained, “I want to see my community happy. No day passes-by without thinking of the trend of development in my Community. I believe that the development of the community must not start from the government as the community is not for the government as it is an inheritance from our fore-fathers.”

He called on other well-meaning individuals to support the government’s effort to improve the quality of life in communities across not just G5 but also the whole of Okobo Local Government Area.

The sport item was received with great excitement and jubilation by the elders, men, women and youths of the community with words of commendations and prayers for him.

Moved by the gesture, an Uyo based Chatered Accountant and Auditor, himself an indigent of Utine Eyoekung, Mr. Okon Sam pledged to support the BY Unity Football Competition by making available two pers of Jersey to two teams duirng the tournament.

Prominent community Leaders, the Village Head of Utine Eyekung, Youths Presidents from the five communities, PTA executive who spoke said they have never seen a son with such a good heart as Madiesim. They noted that they had heard reports of his good works and regular contributions to improve the quality of life of the people and expressed exude gladness that it has now reached G5 which comprises of Utine, Otieke Udung Eto, Itak Okiuso, Itak Uyati, Utine Nduong. To this end, the prayed for him as he called on God to bless him with long life and every good thing.

It would be recalled that the philanthropist, Franklin Madiesim earlier undertaken the payment of entrance fees to ten primary school pupils of Government Primary School Utine in Okobo Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, even as he promised to sponsor their secondary education and is constantly looking for new options to give back more to the community.

*A'Ibom guber: PDP members protest, rejects choice of Deputy*

_First Media Naija Tv | June 4, 2022 | Uyo_

The crisis over the emergence of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State has taken another dimension.

This is as the members in Oron Federal Constituency are now more divided over the party’s alleged preferred choice of deputy governorship candidate.

Supporters of Senator Akon Eyakenyi who is an indigene of Oron LGA, took to Facebook on Friday to congratulate the Senator, saying she had been selected by the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) and ratified Akwa Ibom State Executive Council as the deputy gubernatorial candidate of the party for the 2023 gubernatorial election in the State.

However, PDP members in the four local governments in Oro ethnic nationality (Okobo, Mbo, Udung Uko and Urueoffong Oruko) who are loyal to Governor Udom Emmanuel are protesting on social media over what they described as marginalization of the other four local government areas, should an indigene of Oron Local Government be nominated as deputy governorship candidate.

Oron Local Government having produced a Federal Minister, two term Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, two term Commissioner, and recently House of Representative candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Martin's Esin.

The protesters in Oro Federal Constituency described the proposed deputy governorship candidate as injustice against the people of the other four local government areas in Oron Federal Constituency.

The protesting members, who had alleged that the choice of any politician from Oron Local Government Area as deputy to Umo Eno was a wrong choice, as a local government area that made up of Oro ethnic nationality, the PDP Federal Constituency ticket is already in Oron
LGA.

According to a Facebook user, Victor Onomo wrote; "SO ORON LGA NA ONLY UNA GET ORO? SENATE 8TH YEARS, PREPARING FOR HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, THEN DEPUTY GOVERNOR? PDP NO BALANCE AT ALL. NO WAHALA SHA,, COME AND BEST THE REST OF US TO VOTE!"

The party should engage the people of Oro before they submit the name to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

There should be more consultations and engagement with the people. People have to know. Oro is a traditional community. The party knows the voting pattern of the place.

Akwa Ibom State political watchers have reiterated that the choice of Senator Akon Eyakenyi or any aspirant from Oron LGA is and will be a bad omen for the PDP in the State, which is bedeviled with too many crises as issue of candidature is still a subject of litigation at an Abuja High Court, which has given judicial order to maintain status quo ante bellum to the INEC and the PDP National Secretariat not to recognise the April 30, 2022 adhoc congress to elect 3 delegates per ward.

Politics / 2023: PDP To Probe Okobo Councillor, Chieftains Fingered In Anti-party Activitie by FirstMediaNaija(m): 12:50pm On May 30, 2022
2023: PDP to probe Okobo Councillor, chieftains fingered in anti-party activities, gang-up against Governor's succession plan

By First Media Naija TV

Indications have emerged that Okobo Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is contemplating instituting a probe into the anti-party activities of some of its members in the recently concluded Party Primaries.

Stakeholders have specifically expressed displeasure with the councillor representing Eweme Ward 1 in the Okobo Local Government Legislative Council,Hon. Samuel Okpo over anti-party activities and romance with the opposition party to frustrate the succession plan of His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel in his ward.

Besides, the PDP will also be probing the role of some of the chieftains of the party, including some councillors for allegedly working against the interest of the party's leadership both at the local government and the state.

A source which did not want his name mentioned because he is not authorised to speak on the development stated that those concerned were to be expelled for alleged anti-party activities. Honourable Okpo and some members of the PDP in the local government are working closely with opponents which is clearly a case of anti-party.

Hon. Samuel Okpo had publicly been working for former Governor Godswill Obot Akpabio, Hon. Victor Antai, Obong Akan Udofia, who are chieftains of the All Progressives Congress.

Okpo had also endorsed the gubernatorial aspiration of Obong Bassey Albert as against the choice of Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, the Governor's prefferred.

Recently , the councilor told colleagues in a meeting that Pastor Umo Eno will not win the governorship in 2023, asserting that very soon Obong Bassey Albert will announce his new party and that party will win the 2023 governorship.

A party source hinted that Samuel Okpo had been fingered as part of those involved in creation of disharmony in the party in both the ward and the chapter.

For instance, the source gave clear instances where the Eweme Ward O e Lawmaker, Samuel Okpo and the chapter chairman reportedly mobilized thugs and resources against the conduct of the recently conducted Chapter congress at the Party Secretariat, Nung Atai Eta and in the process insulted the leader of the Party in the chapter, Rt. Hon. Princess Felicia Bassey.

Obviously no serious leadership especially at this time will tolerate this kind of behaviour and very soon they will be repelled from the party. Hon. Okpo should know better the implications of his actions, having regrettably used the party’s platform to attain the position of a councillor , thereby gaining recognition and positions of influence and affluence only to become traitors working against the PDP.

The source claimed that the PDP leadership in the state was miffed to know about recent actions of the alleged culprit which indicated that he wa working for candidates of the opposing political party in the 2023 house of assembly and governorship elections.

The PDP stakeholders said that the party in the ward and in the chapter have put machinery in motion for his recall and expulsion.

Politics / Status Quo by FirstMediaNaija(m): 7:51pm On May 18, 2022
A Perpective on ‘Status Quo’

Nkem Okoro

Brief Introduction of the case:

Senator Dino Melaye, the Senator Representing Kogi West, Senatorial District, by an Originating Summons, filed at the Federal High Court Abuja, is challenging the validity, constitutionality and legality of the purported petition written by his alleged constituents seeking his recall as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Upon filing the Originating Summons, Distinguished Senator Dino Melaye, through his Lawyer Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN, filed a motion on notice for an interlocutory injunction and a motion ex parte for an interim injunction against INEC. The motion ex parte was fixed for hearing on the 6th day of July 2017.

The said motion ex parte was brought on the ground that except the court makes a restraining order, the subject matter in issue, might be destroyed even before the hearing of the substantive application. The motion was supported by exhibits, among which were exhibit DM 16, being a schedule published by INEC on the 3rd day of July 2017, indicating the chronology of events and dates in the process of the purported recall of the Plaintiff.

It is pertinent to observe at this point that, the Plaintiff, through his lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN, had written INEC on the 29th day of June 2017, intimating the electoral body of the pendency of the action and the need for the body to restrain itself with respect to the matter which was already in court, so as not to undermine the jurisdiction and the integrity of the trial court. The said letter had two annexures, which were the Originating Summons and the Motion on Notice for an interlocutory injunction. The electoral body had on the 28th day of June, received and acknowledged service of all the court processes prior to the receipt of the letter from the plaintiff’s lawyer on the 29th June 2017, in which copies of the processes were equally sent to it.

Having received service copies of the court processes on the 28th June, 2017 and also the letter written by the Plaintiff’s lawyer, on the 29th June,2017, naturally, it was expected that INEC, would respect the court, by suspending every further action on the issue. Strangely, on the 3rd day of July 2017, notwithstanding the receipt of the court processes and the letter from the plaintiff through his lawyer four days earlier, INEC rolled out its schedule for the purported recall of the plaintiff.

It was therefore disturbing, to see the supersonic celerity with which INEC was moving in respect of the recall of the plaintiff herein. These were the background facts upon which the trial court, was called upon to make a preservatory order so that the res in issue will not be destroyed.

The trial judge, Justice Tsoho, of Federal High Court, Abuja, stated that he does not usually grant ex parte orders without giving the defendant an opportunity to show cause why the order should not be granted. The court further said that this situation is different, on the ground that, the next day was the court’s last sitting for the legal year prior to the court’s vacation. The court further stated, that in view of exhibit DM 16, which is INEC’s schedule of activities for the purported recall of the plaintiff, which is commencing on the 10th day of July 2017, that there is indeed, a situation of grave urgency which warrants the court to exercised its unfettered discretion to preserve the res in issue before the court.

It was on this basis and upon being further urged by Chief Mike Ozekhome SAN, that the court made a preservatory order, directing the parties to maintain the status quo starting from the 6th day of July 2017, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice which was fixed for hearing on the 29th day of September 2017.

The maintenance of status quo as ordered by the court, in this case, has generated a lot of arguments and has also been subjected to various interpretations by lawyers and none lawyers alike for various interests and purposes. It thus, becomes necessary that one clarifies, and inform the public the true meaning and purport of the order that “parties, maintain the status quo, existing on the 6th day of July 2017, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice for interlocutory injunction on the 29th day of September 2017.”

We shall commence by looking at the various definitions of the word “status quo”. Burton’s Legal Thesaurus (Fourth Edition) defines Status quo as follows:

“Absence of change, conservation of the same situation, equilibrium, existing conditions, existing state, maintenance of regularity, preservation of the same conditions, stable state, static condition, things as they are.”

Black’s Law Dictionary 9th Edition defines status quo in the following words:

“The situation that currently exists”

Legal Definition of status quo by Mariam Webster Dictionary:

“the existing state of affairs; specifically: the last actual and uncontested state of affairs that preceded a controversy and that is to be preserved by preliminary injunction “

We shall also look at some Supreme Court definitions of the word “status quo”

In the case of FIRST AFRICAN TRUST BANK LTD. & ANOR v. EZEGBU & ORS.

(1993) LPELR-1279(SC), the Supreme Court held as follows:

“In Blacks Law Dictionary (5th Edition) the phrase status quo ante is defined thus on page 1264: “The existing state of things at any given date quo ante bellum, the state of things before the war. “Status quo” to be preserved by a preliminary injunction is the last actual, peaceable, uncontested status which preceded the pending controversy: Edgewater Construction Co Inc. v. Percy Wilson Mortgage & Finance Coops: 2 111 Dec. 864, 357 N.E. 2d 1307. 1314” Per Wali, JSC. (Pp.30-31, Paras.G-B)(Emphasis, Supplied)

In the case of ADEWALE v. THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR, EKITI STATE & ANOR. (2006) LPELR-5991(CA), the Court of Appeal held as follows:

“The literal meaning of status quo ante bellum is the state of affairs before the beginning of hostilities. See Akapo v. Hakeem-Habeeb (1992) 6 NWLR (Pt. 247) p. 266. The status quo which the court, by granting of an interlocutory injunction, can maintain is the restoration of the parties to the position they were before the commencement of the dispute between them. Akapo v. Hakeem (1992) 7 SCNJ 11 at 140, (1992) 6 NWLR (Pt. 247) 266. The status quo means the position prevailing when the defendant embarked upon the activity sought to be restrained. Fellowes v. Fisher (1976) QB 122 at 141; Ayorinde v. A.-G., Oyo State (1996) 2 SCNJ 198 at 211, (1996) 3 NWLR (Pt. 434) 20. Where the act has been completed and carried out, an interlocutory injunction cannot be a remedy for it because the status quo to be maintained is the situation as it existed at the time of filing the action Ayorinde v. A.-G., Oyo State supra; that is, at a stage when no further activity can be restrained.

The position is therefore that where litigation immediately follows the peaceable or peaceful state of affairs or status, the status quo to be maintained by an order of interlocutory injunction is that peaceable or peaceful state or status before the litigation. But where such a state of affairs has been disturbed or interfered with, resulting in a law suit, the status quo is not the unlawfully created one immediately preceding the suit, but the original peaceable or peaceful state or status before it was apparently “unlawfully” altered.” Per OGUNWUMIJU, J.C.A. (Pp.30-31, Paras.D-D)

It is important at this point to also look at the various definitions of the word “status quo ante”

The Blacks Law Dictionary (5th Edition) defines the word thus:

“The situation that existed before something else”

There are also myriads of case law definition of the word, status quo ante. In the case of ORONTI v. ONIGBANJO (2012) LPELR-7804(SC), the Supreme Court explained the meaning of the word thus:

“…Status quo ante bellum means the state of affairs existing before the case was filed.”

Having distinguished between the meaning of the words status quo and status quo ante, it is important that we understand the import of each when used by the courts. Firstly, the order of status quo or status quo ante, are all restraining orders of a court. The very moment the court makes the order that parties should maintain, whether status quo or status quo ante, it means, that parties are restrained from destroying the state of affairs either as it was, before the institution of the action, or as it was before the order was made. Its effect is usually to freeze the state of affairs relating back, or as it was currently before the making of the order.

In the case of Senator Dino Melaye against INEC, it is important to ascertain the current state of affairs which the court, by its order, made on the 6th day of July 2017, to the effect that parties maintain status quo as existing on that day. We had earlier referred you to exhibit DM 16, which is INEC’s schedule to the effect that the process of the recall by INEC was to commence on the 10th of July 2017. By this, the current state of affairs is that INEC had published its guideline, preparatory to commencing the purported recall process. By the said order of Court, INEC can no longer take any further step in the matter until the hearing and determination of the motion on notice on the 29th day of September 2017. The court, in this case, did not just order that parties maintain status quo, but that parties should maintain status quo, that existed as at the 6th day of July 2017, by which day, the recall process has not commenced.

If by 6th day of July 2017, when the freezing order was made, the process has not commenced, it then means that the process will no longer commence. Assuming without conceding that the process had commenced by the 6th day of July 2017, when the freezing order was made, the effect of the order is that no further steps can be taken by INEC until the hearing and determination of the motion on notice on the 29th day of September, 2017.

We do not wish to believe that the electoral body has been bought over by parties who are desperate to recall fraudulently, the best and most outspoken Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The supersonic speed with which the electoral body had pursued this recall process, in the face of court processes which were long served on it, gives one the impression that all is not well. One, may therefore not be surprised that the electoral body may choose to ignore the clear order of the court in this case and one also hopes that they understand the dire and grave consequences of such ignominious path.

It is rather pathetic that the executive in the current dispensation, have continuously treated court orders with disdainful recklessness. Bearing in mind the confidence Nigerians have in the electoral body in view of the upcoming elections in 2019, one only hopes, that Nigerian’s hope, will not be dashed again.

Late Osinachi Failed to Enter the Gates of Heaven: Pastor Shares New Revelation God Showed Him

A Tanzanian pastor identified as Allen Mziray has caused a stir on social media as he shared a new revelation, he claimed God gave him about the late gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu.

Alllen stated that God revealed to him that the late singer failed to enter the gates of heaven and explained why.

In a lengthy post shared on Facebook on Monday, April 25, Pastor Allen said he was in the bathroom when God spoke to him, instructing that he should go and talk about the singer’s death and how she failed to make it past heaven’s gates.

Narrating the revelation, Allen claimed God told him that the singer didn’t enter the gates of heaven because of worldly adornments.

Expressly quoting God who he claimed spoke a few words and went quiet, Allen wrote:

“Go and talk about Osinachi Nwachuchukwu and how she failed to enter the gates of heaven because of worldly adornment.”

He said God admitted to giving her the gift of worship but her failure to separate self from worldly adorning cost her entering heaven’s gates.

“The Lord told me” It is true that I anointed her and I gave her the gift of worship, she was my servant but she failed to separate from worldly adornment, as a result she was not allowed to enter the kingdom of heaven because of worldly adornment”.

“This is a very sad thing, saints, the Lord is very serious when it comes to his word, he does not change nor will he change. If he says that there is no jewelry for his children then we must obey his word regardless of where you congregate,” he wrote.

He went on to support his revelation with various Bible scriptures.

_... highlights power, education, ICT and human capacity development as key development index_

Frontline aspirant for the Oron federal Constituency race in the forthcoming primaries of the People's Democratic Party has expressed readiness as the best foot forward to represent the Oro people at the National Assembly in 2023. cool

Engr. Onofiok who stated this at the Special General Meeting of Oron Union held on Sunday, 17th April 2022 at the Civic Center Complex described the Oro youths as smart, innovative and the most hardworking set of persons he has ever come across who are in need of a little push to sharpen their skills towards making global exploits.

Engr. Onofiok while addressing the meeting of the Oro people identified Power, Education, ICT and human capacity development as his core concerns without neglecting others when elected to represent the good people of Oro in 2023.

"The problem of shortage in electricity supply is major problem in Oro. The provision of a 132 KVA sub station will bring to an end this predicament. We will push for the building of a sub station to accommodate our load demand. We are aware of an existing contract for the construction of a substation in Oro facilitated by the Niger Delta Development Commission. We will ensure to revisit and ascertain the contract stage and this, when fully implemented will ensure constant and adequate power supply in Oro and its environs". He noted.

Speaking on education and human capacity development, Engr. Onofiok highlighted his achievements as a private citizen which include the provision of educational assistance to over 150 students and pupils, assisted 17 young entrepreneurs with start-up grants or business funding and expressed confidence in exponentially increasing these numbers through the platform for which he seeks to represent the people of Oro.

2023, Bobby Onofiok and the Bullets in his Cartridge

"When patterns are broken, new worlds emerge". - Tuli Kupferberg

By Joseph Atainyang

The year 2023 is gently approaching. It has in its dangling womb, strange manifestations of the times. Like history always happens every eight years, next year would come with fresh history. The blooming thorns shall dangle like a pendulum, oozing Fresh Air in the political fragmentation. Nigeria is a great country, not only in size, nor is it for being multi-ethnic and multilingual nation. The vast horizon of its plains, the texture of its smoky firmaments, the harshness of its weather, the fluidity of its waters, the undulating topography of its landed area, the tumultuous fabrication of its rocky mountains, and perhaps the predictable character distinctions of its citizens compound to make the country ‘great’. In all things, it is the human person that determines what value to place on each of the potential traits found in Nigeria.

One would perhaps not argue against the proposition that Nigeria is growing backwards, in some aspects of its progressive history. As days continue to wind out, the nation seems to be slipping off the periodic growth targets mapped out by its own leaders. In making projections for the future, short, medium and long term plans are being formulated. But hardly are there efforts to get them implemented. While a man sits on the mountain setting standards for Nigeria’s growth, another sits in the valley setting standards for Nigeria’s depreciation. Corruption has completely engulfed the nation. Only the flagging tail seems left in the mouth of these reptiles. Whether Nigeria can be rescued from this reptile remains hazy.

Oro Nation appears more dampened by the brazen failures of these leaders, over the years. Oro is the third largest ethnic nationality in Akwa Ibom State, after Ibibio and Annang tribes. Oro Nation is a separate federal constiuency of its own, having five local government areas of Òròn, Udung Uko, Mbo, Urue Offong Oruko and Okobo LGAs. But the nation hasn’t faired well in recent history. Political actors have been habitually heartless that nothing good seems to be happening in Nazareth. The economic potentials of the area gradually breaks. No recent leader has beheld Oro as a beautiful bride. Instead, they have despise the area as a retched and broken widow with no iota of attraction. Instead of taking actions that would yield growth on the land, they delight in actions that further decays the land.

Representative politics have dealt a huge blow on the people. Dark and polluted minds would sit from afar and stretch their talorns on the plough. They have no business doing so. But they feel fulfilled taking part in the dark history of creating confusion. Their intentions are to produce failure for the collective results of a dejected people.

Unfortunately, sons and daughters of the land are volunteer accomplices in the assignments of these enemies. They glorify mediocrity to the high heavens, singing sons of other lands. Whether imposed by alien forces, or self-inflicted, this brand of misfortune is regrettable as it is devastating. It is one regret too many and one so attractive to the forces of rebellion. Of course, such was captured in the philosophy of the son of God (Jesus) who acknowledged that “Since the days of John the Baptist, the kingdom of God sufferreth violence and the violent taketh it by force. This is perhaps the only hope for redemption of a people who have everything to resist the enemies. In accordance to the position of Albert Einstein that “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”, here comes one of the aspirants to the office of the political “Governor” of Oro Nation, Engr Bobby Onofiok. He seeks the office of the Member, Òròn Federal Constituency in the upcoming 2023 election. But what does he bring to the table. Does Bobby Onofiok seek to make a difference and stand out from the crowd? The next few paragraphs tell a better story.

It is not enough to seek to aspire for a representative office. The task for the political liberation of Oro People is so huge that it may take more than a generation or two, of discreet actions to achieve. Unfortunately, the last few years have clearly exposed the Oro race as having lost their core values of unity of purpose, dignity in ethnicity and forthrightness. Their Afangki philosophy seems to have been clearly stolen from their consciousness that no serving political office holder seems to remember that there was once a way things were done. They get so stuck to party politics that their sense of responsibility seems dried up. They pursue their selfish interests and would readily obey the oppressor by taking actions inimical to the growth of their People. Even if a deaf and dumb is imposed on them by their alien Lords, they accept such with two hands. Questions are, does Bobby Onofiok deserve a chance at the Green Chambers? Does he have the needed bullets in his cartridge to fire the shots that could aide the purgation of unwanted emotions from the minds of fraustrated Oro populace and get them persuaded to give him the benefit of the doubts? A short journey into his distinct personality is important here.

To achieve this, a few broad areas of his person are featured here. First is his birthplace, through his educational background and family life. The second is his professional engagements. The next is political perceptions. Next is his community service, followed by his capacity and then his popularity and acceptability. These are all broadly expounded in the following paragraphs to give a better portrait of his likelihood of acceptance in the race ahead.

Born in Oron some 45 years ago to Dr Otu E. Onofiok and Dr. Mrs Nkoyo Otu Onofiok of the Onofiok family, Engr Bobby Onofiok hails from Eyo Uwe Ukukim, Ward 2 in Udung Uko Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. His early education began at the prestigious University of Nigeria Primary School, Nsukka and then to the University of Nigeria Secondary School where he obtained his West African Senior Secondary Certificate. Bobby Onofiok holds two bachelor degrees: Computer Science from the University of Uyo, Nigeria and Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, USA. Imbibing the virtues of hardwork, honesty, respect and compassion from his childhood, Bobby Onofiok grew into full investment and philanthropic capital that has transformed many. Married to Mrs Kasang Onofiok, Engr Bobby is blessed with two lovely daughters.

Currently serving as the Managing Partner of Bokano Nigeria Limited, a reputable engineering company providing solutions to engineering, procurement and civil works (EPC) to the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry with offices in Warri, Delta State and Abuja, Bobby was a Process Engineer with Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) in Memphis TN and Albany GA where he helped develop PID’s, Piping Instrumentation Diagrams and managed a peanuts processing plant with a 24/7 running capacity.

A gentleman and a very decent personality, Bobby Onofiok believes that politics should be a platform for service. Asked how he feels about coming into what is known in Nigeria as a dirty game and played by those who mostly appear not to have conscience, Engr Bobby says he is in politics to make a difference. “I’ve decided to be the change I so desire in our community. Instead of lamenting and pointing fingers, I’ve opted to get involved in the political process. Nobody remains in his comfort zone to change the status quo. As at today, an average Oron man believes that Oron nation has been short-changed in the Akwa Ibom political equation. The dust raised by the Ibaka/Ibom deep seaport project and the oil bearing status of Oro Nation have heightened the suspicion in recent times.”

Chatting with newsmen recently, Bobby Onofiok observed that it is time to sit at the table and have ‘honest’ conversations, especially with the Akwa Ibom State actors. He believes that people should even draw themselves to the negotiation table, even if they’

Chatting with newsmen recently, Bobby Onofiok observed that it is time to sit at the table and have ‘honest’ conversations, especially with the Akwa Ibom State actors. He believes that people should even draw themselves to the negotiation table, even if they’re not invited. According to him, doing so will provide lasting solutions to the political doldrums that Oro has found itself. His words, “We must be intentional about this. As BoT Chair, AKISAN, I’ve been able to build bridges across all ethnic groups in our dear state. I also schooled here in Uyo and have lots of friends and acquaintances stretching the length and breadth of the state. We must first get our house (Oro) together. Let’s do a clean up and sensitize our folks on the need to always be united and re-invent the spirit of Afangki. If we re-learn to love ourselves and keep unity intact, we would be better served.”

Asked to unveil his political perception, especially about the Oro People whom he wants to represent, Bobby stated that it was time for Oro to have its first eleven in all representative capacities. He noted that there is currently a burning desire by the Òròn People towards having effective representation. He again believed that the level of political awareness in Akwa Ibom State was good for the era so the electorates would be able to make the right choices. He submitted that the generality of the electorates were the collective godfathers that are willing to enthrone him. “I’ve been asked who my Godfather is and I’ve responded by saying my Godfathers are the ordinary Oro folks, the youth, the women, the children. They are my Godfathers and God Almighty is my overall Godfather”.

Over the years, Engr Bobby Onofiok has habitually given support to community based organisations such as The Etim Akaduh’s Foundation, Secure The Future, Oro Next Generation, among others. This support has seen the supply of school uniforms, textbooks and other learning materials to primary school pupils and educational assistance to the under privileged. Bobby Onofiok is known for his yearly provision of scholarships for indigent students in tertiary institutions. He enjoys mentoring young men and women who are interested in studying or are studying science or engineering.

With the foregoing facts and figures, it is unarguable that Bobby Onofiok has the competence and capacity to deliver. A man with deep-seated love for his community, the intending member of parliament has his fingers in the plough, touching on virtually every community project across Oro Nation and beyond. No wonder he is the chairman, Board of Trustees of Akwa Ibom State Association of Nigeria (AKISAN), USA. He is also the National President, Oron Development Union (ODU), U.S.A. As Member, Board of Trustees of Oro Progressives Movement; Member, Oron Union Scholarship Committee; Member, Udung Uko Elders’ Council; Member, Board of Trustees of Oro Leadership Roundtable and Grandpatron, Oro Next Generation, Engr Onofiok has registered his imprints in the sands of time. The most recent of this is the award of scholarship grants to some Oro youths which he personally supervised on Thursday last week. The same Bobby Onofiok is a Member, King’s Table, a United States-based voluntary and humanitarian organization providing meals to homeless shelters in downtown Atlanta, USA on a weekly basis. Proudly the Eti Nkughó Óró, Bobby’s blessed fingers does not deny the juices that divine has showered on him.

As far as the race to the Federal House of Representatives is concerned, Bobby’s popularity and acceptability is automatic. Having executed several life-touching projects, his embrace to the people is incontestable. His impacts on numerous Oro youths have not only endeared him to them, but has registered his kind-hearted spirit, passion and magnanimity on them. This has been through the provision of several educational programmes, mentorships and entrepreneural support, stretching close to a decade. Imbued with the philosophy of Jesus Christ who warned that the left hand shouldn’t be aware of the service of the right hand, Bobby only has a few of his humanitarian services in the media space. But like men would always proclaim their benefits, people who have enjoyed Bobby’s goodwill over the years have been the ones proclaiming his goodness.

In inference therefore, one could safely say that Engr Bobby Onofiok has secured a good space in the hearts of the electorates. Apparently, the last nearly eight years have seen the worst form of representation at the Green Chambers. Oro has remained far behind because of the debasing partisanship of the majority of the electorates who should adopt drastic measures to dethrone abysmal performances of an imposed personality, especially on a conspicuously marginalized race like Oro. As Tuli Kupferberg maintains, “patterns, when broken berth new worlds”. Oro people can no longer fold their hands to watch the glorification of mediocrity. It is time to get things right so that weeping will not continue to endure. Fortunately for Bobby Onofiok, all the odds favour him. His comely background, educational and professional expertise, private and public engagements, coupled with his competence, capacity popularity and acceptability all add to his credentials.

Truth is, if Engr Bobby Onofiok could singlehandedly visit these aforementioned impacts as a private citizen, would he abandon his people in the core mandate of representation when given the opportunity for public service? The answer is obvious. Hence, one delightedly concludes that all the positive qualities and conditions stated in this article are apparent factors that support the possible emergence of Bobby Onofiok as the flag bearer of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the race ahead. The factors could meticulously become the bullets in his cartridge which should expectedly shoot him to the podium.

Joseph Atainyang is a journalist and public affairs commentator.

Politics / The Proposed Special General Meeting (sgm) Of Oron Union And The Misconceptions: by FirstMediaNaija(m): 4:00pm On Apr 16, 2022
THE PROPOSED SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING (SGM) OF ORON UNION AND THE MISCONCEPTIONS: THE NEED FOR SOME CLARIFICATIONS

We have observed with dismay, the dimensions to which the mind of a few can fly in distrust and the extent to which that distrust can go in damaging what should be the genuine pursuit of all sons and daughters of Óró: peace and goodwill. For the danger that this unfortunate state we have found ourselves can pose, therefore, we have decided to make some clarifications, hoping that it will make the intention of the CEC for the SGM clearer, the purpose emboldened and the goal trusted. Thus, it's important to state the following:

1. The present CEC came on board with a resolve to put things in the right perspective toward ensuring that Óró gets it right wherever it failed and consequently reclaims its former pride of place in the Committee of Ethinic Nationalities in Akwa Ibom State nay Nigeria .

2. To this end, at the start of the administration plans and programs that the Union would pursue in the course of the tenure were made public and approved. In pursuance of those plans, which almost every Óró sons and daughters lauded, the upcoming SGM was proposed.

3. The SGM is expected to stimulate conversation as to why Oro as the third tripod has suffered so much deprivation, oppression, marginalization and in the process come up with time tested strategies and processes that will help Oro reclame it's position. Starting from recruitment imbalance, Appointment imbalance, promotion imbalance, and political opportunities and Resources appropriation imbalance. Which other Socio Political group is empowered to do this if not Oron Union? This role is in pursuant to Article 3, item H, I ,J , and K of Oron Union Constitution.

4. The SGM, contrary to the unfortunate misconceptions being peddled in the last 24 hours all over the place, has the intention of bringing all aspirants, of all political parties, for the Federal House of Representatives seat for Oron Federal Constituency, together, to interface with the Óró people all over the world which they intend to represent. The interface is therefore expected to afford every constituents, either directly or by representation, the opportunity to assess these aspirants, engage them and make informed choices for the betterment of Óró as a people. The Aspirants interface will not result in any test or judgement. Aspirants will answer the same questions and in the probability sequence not to be determined by the Union or any of it's Officers.

5. Contrary to the negative and divisive speculations being sold from different quarters in the last 24 hours, with seeming intent to strangulate what should have been a unified purpose and pursuit of all Oronians, the committee set up by the CEC was not, in any way, meant to endorse or cause others to endorse any aspirant, and in any case does not possess any powers to do so. The whole duty of the committee was to plan the SGM for Óró. It is also clear, for those whose intentions are to understand and build and without any intent to vilify, criticise distructively to distract and divide, that the members of the committee weren't selected along party lines or across party/aspirants affiliations. The selection was based on citizenship, availability, capacity, willingness of the people to help within the timeline and proximity. It is therefore sickening to see that such destructive views that trailed those harmless and patrotic efforts could ensue. We tend to wonder as a Union what those individuals, whose sole aim was to help their motherland, would feel reading those conversations on the Órócentric platforms since yesterday. We find those remarks to be insensitive, demeaning and discouraging.

6. The President General of Oron Union, Bishop Etim Ante has proven to have this consultative ability and stamina to always make utmost efforts at reaching out to all and sundry, stakeholders and well-meaning Oronians on matters of policy and effects on Óró. This results in some very subtle decisions being taken wittingly, but succinctly. It is therefore our believe that, at worst, a leader elected by the people should be given the benefits of the doubts.

7. The SGM is tomorrow, the least we can do is attend either to confirm our fears or assuage them. If our intentions are to build together, we will conver mistakes than magnifying them and giving them undue publicity. Let us not be consumed in our vendetta so much that we forget the unflinching reality that the fall is our fall and the rise is our rise!

*YOU MUST HAVE INTEREST IN WHO REPRESENTS YOU, EKONG SAMPSON TELLS OFCOMPRO*

_By Sampson Enyongekere_

A front line Senatorial Aspirant in Eket (Akwa Ibom South) Senatorial District, Dr. Ekong Sampson, has urged members of Oron Federal Constituency Media Professionals (OFCOMPRO) to be deeply interested in who represents the district from 2023 in the Senate.

Dr. Sampson dropped the charge on Sunday, March 27, while addressing members of Oron Federal Constituency Media Professionals, OFCOMPRO, in Uyo .

Barr. Ekong Sampson who said he invited members of OFCOMPRO to intimate them of his policy thrust and formally seek their support towards his Senatorial ambition described the media as a very critical partner in nation building, urging members of the group to not remain aloof but to see his ambition as theirs.

He informed the group of his massive experience on the workings of the Senate having served Senator Udoma Udo Udoma as a Legislative Aide when he was in the Senate, promising to utilise his wealth of experience in the development of the district if elected.

The legal luminary explained that election to the Senate was a very serious business and the Senate a serious institution and charged members of OFCOMPRO to kindle their interests in the district's Senatorial representation, describing the Red Chambers as the epicentre of the power game.

The former Commissioner for Environment stressed that the district was peculiar in her diversity and plurality in that its constitutes the Oro, Ekid, Obolo and Ibibio unlike districts like Uyo Senatorial District solely made up of just the Ibibio and harped on political zoning which he said was the ready response that guarantees power sharing to the various segments of a diverse and plural district.

The Senatorial Aspirant said the district Senatorial office has been zoned to Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency where his own local government area Mkpat Enin belongs, hence, his aspiration.

He promised to employ his whooping capacity to address the myriads of issues confronting Oron Federal Constituency and other parts of the Senatorial district if elected.

He described himself as a bridge builder who has built bridges of friendship through enormous human capital development across the Senatorial district, he tasks members of OFCOMPRO to be proactive in their quest to screen aspirants towards a better Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District.

The aspirant who holds a PhD in law endorsed the upcoming Election Debate planned by OFCOMPRO, promising to make himself available when needed.

Responding, the Chairman of Oron Federal Constituency Media Professionals, Comrade Marshal Abia, on behalf of the group expressed profound appreciation to the Senate hopeful for deeming it necessary to seek the support of OFCOMPRO, thanking him for giving audience to the team.

Mr. Abia said the fundamental objective of the group was to assess, scrutinise, evaluate and promote aspirants with good intentions towards the Senatorial district, stressing that every aspirant will be given a fair opportunity at OFCOMPRO upcoming debate to sell his or her blueprint and policy thrust. He maintained that through OFCOMPRO, Eket Senatorial District will present the very best not just to Oron Federal Constituency but the entire Senatorial district.

Politics / Press Conference Addressed By National Coordinator Of The Peace Advocacy Gruopl by FirstMediaNaija(m): 4:10pm On Mar 13, 2022
*PRESS CONFERENCE ADDRESSED BY THE NATIONAL COORDINATOR OF THE PEACE ADVOCACY GROUP (PAG), ENGR. ANIEKAN JAMES UNAH ON SUSTAINING PEACE FOR CORDIAL COEXISTENCE AND DEVELOPMENT IN AKWA IBOM STATE ON MARCH 12, 2022, IN UYO, AKWA IBOM STATE, NIGERIA* .

All protocols duly observed.

*Preamble*
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to this memorable Conference with men of impeccable character and virtue. I am indeed overwhelmed and deeply humbled by the large turn out and your visible commitment towards sustenance and promotion of peace in our dear State. This conference specifically offers us the opportunity to express our gratitude to God for His numerous blessings to us as a group with a peace agenda and as a people of one great state. Today I welcome each and every one of you for this great honour done to us by honouring our invitation and we pray that the Almighty God bless, guide and protect you all. Thank you for your love and affection.

*WHY WE ARE GATHERED HERE*
We are here today to re-emphasize the importance of peace in our dear State. Since God in his infinite mercy has found us worthy to enjoy peace in the past seven years plus, it's imperative to continue to sustain it in order to create enabling environment where entrepreneurs, investors and government can invest to enhance living standards of our dear youths. We must guard it jealously. We must ensure peace is enshrined in our villages, clans, local government areas, we must be peace ambassador in our villages or towns in the state and this will required constant collaboration with traditional rulers and other government agencies that will help sustain the peace in our locality and indeed the entire State. So we have come to let you understand that it is our collective duty to ensure sustenance of peace in Akwa Ibom State.

The peace enjoyed in Akwa Ibom State today has created a conducive environment that makes the state a safe place to visit, live, and do business. This is happening because when His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel assumed office in 2015, he was fully aware of the factors needed to transform the state from a civil service-oriented state to an economic and industrial hub where businesses will thrive. Having identified insecurity as an impediment to any meaningful development.

Despite the abundance endowments, the state before the emergent of the present administration was characterized with incessant cases of kidnapping, unresolved murder, robbery and cultism that created unfavorable environment that made it difficult for potential investors, or even visitors to invest or visit the state. To reverse the ugly trend, the governor took the first major drastic step of tackling insecurity by enacting a law banning cultism which was then fast becoming a phenomenon in the state, with almost daily reports of killings associated with cult related activities. His Excellency Governor Emmanuel granted amnesty to repentant cultists and got quite a number of them rehabilitated into the society by being positively engaged.

A major crackdown on criminals and their activities no doubt saw a drastic reduction in crime rate, which helped to create the enabling environment that has encouraged investments inflow to the state in the last six years plus. This is in addition to the various incentives put in place to enhance the ease of doing business in Akwa Ibom state by this present administration. The number of industrial establishments set up by the government as well as various investments by private sector players point to the fact that indeed the state is safe and peaceful, relative to the situation in many other parts of the country today.

The immediate benefits of this development are job creation, improved standard of living by our youths, increase in state revenue which will give birth to more industries, corporate reputation and stability of economy growth thus enhancing living standards and socio-economic sufficiency in many homes/families across the state. Without doubt, the atmosphere in Akwa Ibom State today has been jealously guarded and Ibomites are not ready to take it for granted, having seen the level of transformation that has taken place since the return of peace to the state.

We have seen many things people thought were impossible become seamlessly possible under the Akwa Ibom of today. From Aviation, to Industrialization, from a revamped Secondary Health Care system to a overhauled Educational system, from entrepreneurship development, to skill acquisition in core Technical areas, from SME growth and development to agricultural revolution, the list is endless.

Our people have found peace amongst themselves. Peace has seen us tap into our creative wells and our people are embracing the entrepreneurial culture, especially the youth. We must maintain this peace with every fibre of our beings.

Any one, who, for selfish political purposes, wants to reverse this peace, must, and should be rejected, anyone who aims to grab power through the instrument of violence must be stopped and rejected.

Anyone who aims at getting power by using violence against his or her people, will end up ruling with violence. May our dear state never go through such politically-motivated years of violence again.

It is instructive to note that the Udom Emmanuel template has enabled the Akwa-Ibom state government to effectively manage contending interests, achieve harmony among the political class, enhanced public/private partnership, create enabling atmosphere for greater citizen participation as well as harmonious living in a multifarious state.

We commend His Excellency, Governor Udom Emmanuel’s commitment towards ensuring a peaceful state, a situation that enabled him to effectively deploy the resources available to the state to impact lives, create enduring infrastructure, attract investors, provide jobs and improve on the living standard of the people, in line with His Completion Agenda mantra .

We urge our dear Governor, His Excellency Governor Udom Emmanuel not to relent but continue to deepen harmonious living which is sine qua non for development.

We also express confidence in Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, the choice of His Excellency's successor and Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources for his commitment under Governor Udom Emmanuel, towards the success this administration has recorded so far.
For us as a state to continue to sustain the peace for cordial coexistence and development in Akwa Ibom State, we are admonished to adhere to below recommendations.

The Frontline gubernatorial aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, maintain that gone are the days when political jobbers will come with their intrigues of donating farely used cars, all in the name of empowering the people, without any hope of what would be used to service or maintain such cars, but rather they should remained focused and be able to provide jobs to the unemployed youths in the state instead, which he noted will sustain them.

"Modesty will forgive me, I don't need anything in life again, our last child is in the university now. Someone told me last year that I will be running for Governorship and I said I was waiting for the governor to endorse whoever God laid in his heart, so that we can work with that person, but it turned out to be myself. This is a burden on me, when you go out and see the number of youths running around without jobs, you'll would know that there is a problem. I see this as destiny calling on me to do something and I am passionate about it.

"All my investments are here, if this state fails, everything I have will also fail. They have alternatives, please look for that man who do not have plan B, that man who says we die here, that man whose only option is Akwa Ibom State", Pastor Eno said.

The Governorship hopeful promised to do his best to sustain the legacies of Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom State and to ensure that the youths are gainfully employed and empowered, while maintaining the peaceful atmosphere currently being enjoyed in the state.

Politics / I Have Faith In This State, Says Pastor Umo Eno by FirstMediaNaija(m): 5:00am On Mar 02, 2022
*I HAVE FAITH IN THIS STATE, SAYS PASTOR UMO ENO*

Victor Paul Unoh |

The Honourable Commissioner for Lands and Water Resources and leading gubernatorial aspirant for the 2023 governorship election in Akwa Ibom, Pastor Umo says he has indebt faith in the Akwa Ibom project.

The indefatigable governorship hopeful said this while interacting with Oron Federal Constituency Media Professionals who paid him a familiarisation visit at his Signature by Royalty located in the serene Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo.

The meeting according to a release by the Media and Publicity Secretary of the group, Mr. John Bassey, "was planned to give the first Oro Nation media watch dog a good opportunity to interact with the Akwa Ibom State gubernatorial hopeful on his plans and intensions towards various areas of Socio-economic and infrastructural welfare of the Oro people in specific and the state at large."

The governor hopeful hinted that he is made in Akwa Ibom, hence, all his investment is in the state. He said he left Lagos thirty years ago and came to Akwa Ibom State because he believed in the state and her numerous resources. While in the state he said he has created employment for teeming youths of the state and provided food on people's table.

"I started investing in this state thirty years ago, providing jobs and creating wealth and providing food on people's table;

"Am not an accidental money maker, I didn't go anywhere, I don't have any government money around me. It shows that I have Faith in this state.

"If this state fail, everything I have fails; but they have alternative, please look for that man who do not have option B, that man who's only option is Akwa Ibom State."

On his plans to develop the state, Pastor Umo Eno revealed that his focus will be on aggressive development of the rural areas which he said formed greater percentage of the population of the state but can't boast of meaningful development. He said he will explore the business opportunities on our coastal communities and adequately empowered our local fishermen with boats and fishing equipments.

"Of the greatest population of our people lives in the rural area, how many communities have water, electricity and access road, how many? So, we will dwell on aggressive development of the rural areas,

" We shall explore the business opportunities on our coastal area and waterways, our local fishermen shall be adequately empowered with boats and fishing equipments while partnering with individuals with trawlers. We shall provide adequate security architecture to protect our fishermen on the sea.

In the area of capacity building, employment and development of the youths, Pastor Umo promised that he will build on what the current governor has done. And further observed that the greatest reality on ground is unemployment in state.

"we will build on what the governor has done;

"whether I am governor or not the greatest reality on ground is unemployment;

"I am not saying this because I want to play politics, it is about somebody whom wants to, somebody who wants the youths; Our youths have certificates but they don't have jobs;

"We've industries coming, we have not prepared our youths to meet the challenges; This is how Mobil came in many years ago, our people were not prepared;

"We started complaining they were were bringing people from Lagos, because we do not have the right skills to match the momentum, so, there's need to prepare our youths for the moment."

He however cautioned the youths against people who are busy inducing them with little fish rather than teaching them how to fish.

"When they come to give you a car, you are happy to collect a tokunbo Camry with nothing to maintain and fuel the car. Three weeks later the car is parked somewhere. What is wrong if they give you Prado like they are driving, and equally provide you with job? Our people need to be emancipated from that mentality.

"I am not saying don't give money, I am only saying show them how to make money;

We will raise our youth to the point they can make their own money, he added.
