Sports / Some Things That Must Happen Before Mohammed Salah Can Win The Ballon D'or by Footyfanz: 3:15pm On Jun 05, 2018
There has been silly arguments going on among football fans suggesting that Mohammed Salah deserve the Ballon d'Or award. That's a childish argument or debate i just don't care. How could a guy that hasn't won anything with both Club and Country win the greatest individual award a player could ever dream of?. Although the guy was the best player in the EPL by miles in the just concluded season but that doesn't make him a direct candidate for the award. I mean it's irritating...........

Sports / No Excuse: Real Madrid Showing Man U How To Beat Sevilla by Footyfanz: 4:05pm On Dec 14, 2017
Sevilla couldn’t last long in their weekend date with Real Madrid as they were so eager to concede goals at the Bernabau on Saturday. Real Madrid scored as early as the 3rd minute of the game through Nacho’s effort, and they and continued to score all through the first half. Madrid had closed the game in the 42nd minute when Hakimi’s shot found the back of the net. It was another shooting practice for Madrid at the Bernabau.
Well, that’s not really my concern. My main concern is the UEFA champions league knockout stage (round of 16) draw in which Sevilla was paired alongside Manchester United. I cannot but just feel for Sevilla. Maybe I should even cry in advance for them because playing against Manchester United might be very difficult especially now that Real Madrid just exposed the weaknesses in their defence.
Sports / 7 Of The Most Shocking Air Disasters In Football History by Footyfanz: 2:58pm On Nov 30, 2016
With the news of the Chapecoense tragedy all over the media today, it comes as a painful reminder that this is not the first time that a football team has been involved in an aeroplane crash.

Here we look back at seven other incidents of harrowing air disasters in the world of football...

7. The Alianza Lima Air Disaster

South America has a history of plane crashes and the 8th worst Peruvian aviation disaster of all time occurred when the aircraft carrying Alianza Lima back from Pucallpa crashed into the Pacific Ocean in December 1987, killing all of its passengers.

A total of 43 people associated with the club lost their lives; aside from the promising first team squad (which were closing in on a Peruvian championship), backroom staff and fans were also on the flight.

The Peruvian FA decided to continue the domestic campaign and Alianza Lima had to call on retired players and loanees to finish the season. There remains a cloud of controversy around the cause of the crash, with the official investigation blaming the pilot.

Barcelona midfielder Denis Suarez has revealed clubmate Andres Iniesta sent him a message of congratulations after their win over Sevilla on Sunday.

Iniesta, 32, recently suffered a knee injury and may not be back in action for Barcelona until the New Year, giving the likes of Suarez a chance to prove their worth at the club. The former Manchester City youngster certainly took his chance, delivering an assured performance as the Catalan club came from a goal down to beat Sevilla 2-1.

Suarez revealed Iniesta sent him a message after the game, supposedly congratulating the 22-year-old for his part in the win.

Sports / Toni Kross Out For The Rest Of The Year by Footyfanz: 2:17pm On Nov 10, 2016
Real Madrid star Toni Kroos could be facing around two months on the sidelines after suffering a fractured metatarsal. Real Madrid confirmed midfielder Toni Kroos suffered the injury in the fifth metatarsal of his right foot during the 3-0 victory over Leganes on Sunday.

The news will come as a big blow to Los Blancos, as Kroos has become an integral part of the side ever since signing from Bayern Munich in 2014.

The German star had featured in all of Real's La Liga games so far this season and acts as a dynamic presence in the centre of the park. The 26-year-old also leads the league's assists charts with six. Metatarsals are something of a curse to the modern footballer. Real old boy David Beckham made the bone injury famous in 2002 after sustaining the blow in the run up to the World Cup in Japan and Korea.

Sports / 7 Of The Biggest Rivalries In World Football by Footyfanz: 1:44pm On Nov 10, 2016
With the US Election upon us and this particular contest proving more fractious than normal, we take a look in no particular order at some of the beautiful game's ugliest rivalries...

'De Klassieker' is the Netherlands tastiest affair. A nation famed for its friendliness and relaxed attitude allows itself a bit of hatred when these two meet.

Both clubs are the pride of their respective cities (Amsterdam and Rotterdam) and take the clashes very seriously.

The match up is viewed as the classic struggle between the cultured 'artists' of Amsterdam and the 'workers' of Rotterdam. Hooliganism has marred the fixture since the 1970s, including a tragic incident in 1997, when an Ajax supporter was beaten to death by a group of opposition fans.

In February of this year, an effigy was hanged in the Amsterdam Arena of Kenneth Vermeer, as protest to the goalkeeper switching between the two clubs.

Sports / 5 Greatest Comebacks In Champions League Group Stage History by Footyfanz: 4:52pm On Nov 03, 2016
Arsenal came from two goals down to see off Bulgarian opposition Ludogorets 3-2 in the Champions League on Tuesday, while Real Madrid had a scare when they went 3-2 down on Wednesday night to the hands of Legia Warszawa, but Real were luckily able to draw level.

5. Ludogorets 2-3 Arsenal, November 2016

Sports / The Reason For Lionel Messi's Tunnel Bust-up After Man City Loss by Footyfanz: 4:10pm On Nov 03, 2016
Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi was less than pleased after Tuesday night's Champions League defeat against Manchester City and a story has emerged that there was a post-match tunnel tantrum from the Argentine after a an apparent bust-up with Mikel Arteta.

According to the Sun, Messi took exception to the City coach's celebrations - high-fiving players on the sideline which carried on as shouting and fist-pumping in the tunnel area.

It is claimed that Messi sternly told Arteta, who himself has ties to Barcelona after graduating from the esteemed La Masia academy in the 1990s, to "go and enjoy yourself in the dressing room," adding, "do not do this here".

Other reports have mentioned a larger 'melee', while it is widely thought that Sergio Aguero, Messi's friend and international colleague, had to step in to calm the situation down.

Sports / Gareth Bale Scores Real Madrid's Fastest Ever Champions League Goal by Footyfanz: 3:41pm On Nov 03, 2016
Gareth Bale became the fastest Champions League goalscorer in Real Madrid history, netting the opener for his team at the 57-second mark against Legia Warsaw.

Real needed just 27 touches, including one intercepted pass by Legia, to put the ball in the back of the net after Cristiano Ronaldo headed the ball to the Welshman, who powered a left-footed volley home from just outside the penalty area.

The goal marks the first time Bale's scored in consecutive Champions League games in the same season since November, 2013, after netting the opener in the reverse fixture against Legia on Oct. 19.

Sports / Aubameyang Suspended After Disappearing On Unsanctioned Trip To Party In Italy by Footyfanz: 3:33pm On Nov 03, 2016
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's absence from Borussia Dortmund's Champions League squad has been revealed after the striker was suspended for taking an unsanctioned mini-break to Italy.

The striker was left out of the Bundesliga club's 1-0 victory over Sporting on Wednesday amid reports that he had breached team meeting regulations by playing on his phone.

However, the Daily Mirror claims that Aubameyang flew to Varese in Italy to attend a friend's party at the Hotel Villa Borghi on Monday evening, and images on the Instagram accounts of other guests appear to back up the newspaper's allegation.

Speaking in the wake of his side's win, Dortmund Boss Thomas Tuchel refused to be drawn over Aubameyang's situation following the speculation.

He said: "It was very difficult to do without him, but it was that I had no choice.

Sports / How Manchester City Can Beat Barcelona Easily In The Champions League Tonight by Footyfanz: 5:51pm On Nov 01, 2016
A fortnight ago Barcelona took apart Manchester City 4-0 at the Nou Camp, continuing the Spanish side's formidable streak against the Citizens in the competitions.

Now, Pep Guardiola must get a result as the two teams meet at the Etihad Stadium and the seemingly impossible task could be made easier if he is to follow these simple steps...

4. Play a 4-3-3-1 Formation

Pep switched to a 3-3-3-1 for the West Brom game and it worked to a tee, with Sergio Aguero and Ilkay Gundogan grabbing a brace apiece in a 4-0 win. City are expected to line up in a similar fashion for the Barcelona game with Fernando's inclusion in midfield packing the middle.

Yet, how great would it be if the Citizens could still adopt that packed midfield while continuing with a flat back four. Sneak Gael Clichy at right back and watch as the Catalan side become overwhelmed playing against 12 men. Sorted.

3. Bring Back Joe Hart

Sports / The 8 Biggest Group Stage Wins In Champions League History by Footyfanz: 3:06pm On Oct 06, 2016
The Champions League group stage often sees a mismatch of some of Europe's most successful sides and some, well, obscure minnows. Yet, some of the victims of the eight biggest group stage victories are actually fairly successful clubs in their own right...

8. FC Zilina 0-7 Marseille, November 2010

Marseille’s win in Slovakia was the biggest away victory in the Champions League, but it hardly came as a surprise considering the 2010/11 season was the first time that MSK Zilna had qualified for the group stages of the competition.

Andre-Pierre Gignac helped himself to a hat-trick, as the Slovakian champions ended the group stage bottom with 0 points.

Sports / Can Jurgen Klopp Finally Win Liverpool The Premier League Title? by Footyfanz: 1:53pm On Oct 06, 2016
It has been 26 years since Liverpool last won the league title; beating Queens Park Rangers 2-1 at Anfield to claim their 18th top-flight championship. Since that Golden era boasting the likes of Ian Rush and John Barnes, Leeds United, Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea, Manchester City and more agonizingly bitter rivals Manchester United (13 times since Liverpool’s triumph) have go on to win England’s elite competition. Kenny Dalglish was manager the last time Liverpool were champions and since then the likes of Gerard Houllier, Roy Hogdson , Rafael Benitez & Brendan Rodgers have all tried to bring back the elusive title Liverpool have won 18 times with the last two managers coming close on two occasions. Even the return of legendary manager Dalglish in 2011 still resulted in agony; they finished a disappointing 8th that led to the dismissal of the Anfield hero.

Sports / The Next Fabregas? by Footyfanz: 1:26pm On Oct 06, 2016
It was inevitable that the rumours would eventually come up. You could be forgiven for thinking that we were in 2011 again after comments from Barcelona vice-president Jordi Mestre this week. The Blaugrauna chief described Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin as a ‘great player’ claiming he has ‘Barca DNA’ and he hopes the Spaniard will eventually return to the La Liga giants.

Cast your mind back to autumn 2009 when Barcelona midfielder Xavi expressed his ambition to play with then-Gunners midfielder Cesc Fabregas and added fuel to the fire by also claiming his compatriot has 'Barca DNA’. The tapping-up was explicit and in Arsenal’s faces - but they couldn’t do a thing about it as Fabregas eventually landed his ‘dream’ return back to where it all began.

Sports / 5 Things Guardiola Needs To Do At Man City Before Premier League Starts. by Footyfanz: 2:46pm On Aug 01, 2016
Pep Guardiola, the new Manchester City boss has less than two weeks to fully prepare his squad for what definitely will be another hugely competitive Premier League season. It’s therefore crucial for his side to fully prepare ahead of their opening clash with Sunderland, as so many spectators would be interested in his first impression into his Premier League and Manchester City career.

Here are five things we expect Guardiola to be working on in this crucial two weeks period to give Manchester City that edge going into the new season.

1. Determine who's staying and who's going

Sports / Higuain, Pjanic, Dybala; Juventus Have A Team Even Barcelona & Madrid Will Fear by Footyfanz: 5:13pm On Jul 26, 2016
To this day, Napoli supporters sing songs about Diego Maradona. A particular favourite goes, "O, Mamma, Mamma, Mamma, do you know why my heart is thumping? I saw Maradona, I saw Maradona. Now I'm in love."

They sang it again after the final game of last season - but with a twist. The name of one Argentine idol had been replaced with that of another: Gonzalo Higuain. It was easy to understand why. Higuain had just scored a hat-trick against Frosinone and, in doing so, he had done something nobody - not even Maradona - had done before: break Gunnar Nordahl's goals record for a single Serie A season (35).

However, Higuain is now set to do something else that Maradona never did: leave Napoli for another Italian team.

In 1990, after Maradona had led the Partenopei to a second Scudetto in three years, he was approached by Silvio Berlusconi, the president of his club's great rivals, AC Milan.

Sports / Juventus: A Monopoly in the Serie A by Footyfanz: 4:55pm On Jul 26, 2016
With the apparent signing of Gonzalo Higuain, football fans have to even wonder if Juventus will be contested for the Serie A title. Juventus are a club with a storied history. They are a club who has had some wonderful times, but they have also gone through tough times.

This summer, more than ever, Juventus is trying to solidify the title, before they even kick off for their first match in the Serie A. Since the season has ended Juventus have signed: Mario Lemina (loan from Marseille loan made permanent for €9.5 million), Dani Alves (free transfer from FC Barcelona), Miralem Pjanić (€32 million from AS Roma), Mehdi Benatia (loan from Bayern Munich with option to buy), and now possibly the signing of Napoli forward Gonzalo Higuain for a reported €94.7 million. Take the Higuain transfer out of it, and just focus on all of the other players they have brought in.

Sports / Zlatan Ibrahimovic Has Lost All His Tats by Footyfanz: 2:54pm On Jul 25, 2016
Manchester United superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been spotted on holiday without the iconic tattoos that usually adorn his body. The Swede uploaded a video to Instagram of him practising his ball juggling in slow-motion on Venice beach in California.Ibra finished off his routine with an acrobatic volley into the distance, not that we are sure his new manager Mr Mourinho would approve of such behaviour.

Perhaps more striking than Ibrahimovic's ball skills however was the absence of the tattoos we have seen inked across his body in the past. Zlatan has become well-known for his love of ink in recent times, even writing in his autobiography 'I Am Zlatan' that it became somewhat of an addiction for him.

Sports / 10 Most Expensive Footballers For Each Footballing Position by Footyfanz: 12:35pm On Jul 25, 2016
Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer, $45 million

The German number 1 goalkeeper Manuel Neuer took goalkeeping to a whole new level. He is not just a regular shot-stopper; he is also a sweeper keeper. Neuer is widely known as one of the world’s best goalkeeper if not the best.

He is an embodiment of it all; maturity, ability to plat with both feet, calmness and an uncanny vision for the game. He could be said to even read the game better than some defenders. In fact, whenever his team is pressed for a goal, he often plays as a defender. Proving he is well his worth.

Right-back: Dani Carvajal, $25 million

Obviously there are some greater right backs in football like Philipp Lahm and Dani Alves, but Carvajal has emerged as one of the finest players in this position. The right back who won the Champions League with Real Madrid is valued at $25 million, more than any player in this position, as he has been an integral part of Real Madrid over the past few years.

Sports / Mario Götze Apologises To Borussia Dortmund Fans For Joining Bayern Munich by Footyfanz: 1:51pm On Jul 21, 2016
According to Squawka Borussia Dortmund have confirmed the signing of midfielder Mario Gotze Bayern Munich on a four-year deal, three years after he left them to move to the reigning Bundesliga champions.

The 24-year-old had been heavily tipped to leave the Allianz Arena this summer, with injuries and a lack of minutes under former Bayern Munich manager Pep Guardiola hindering his progress.

Despite Guardiola leaving the German club for Manchester City this summer and being replaced by Carlo Ancelotti, Dortmund emerged as potential suitors with Gotze unlikely to excel under the Italian tactician either. The Germany international, who was a regular under Joachim Low at the Euros this summer but failed to impress, was also heavily linked with a reunion with Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool.

Zero to Millions: Nine Players Who Made Their Transfer Value Sky Rocket After Just One Season.

Few days back, N’Golo Kante completed his transfer from Leicester City to join Chelsea for a fee that is believed to be in the range of £30M within just a year after joining the foxes for less than a third of that. This won’t be the first case of players joining one club and improving their value massively before moving to a bigger club for an inflated fee.

This is nothing new to football as it has been happening for years as players routinely come from humble beginning to climb up in recognition. However, what makes it more astonishing is the whole thing happening after just one full season. Sure many can improve over the course of many years to justify a substantially increased fee, but over the course of just one?

Here are Nine players who might not be just one season wonders;
