Romance / Re: After Introduction, I’m Seeing Too Many Red Flags by Futureschool(m): 8:22am On Jun 24, 2021
One of the ways you know God is with you on a matter is the peace of mind and contentment in heart that you possess about that issue.
If your peace of mind is no more there, then that in itself is a red flag.

Secondly, issue of denomination/place of worship is a really critical factor for consideration in recent time for intending Christian couples; it was not really meant to be but because of issues of divergent doctrines, teachings, beliefs and practices, many Christian home are experiencing various types of storms.

I will advise you to take out time to pray, listen to your heart and not to anybody; because when the chips are down, no one will bear the brunt for you; not your parents and not even you friends and advisers. Then, make up your mind and do a desired.

May the Lord be with you.

Career / Lessons From The Start-up Of You (part 2) by Futureschool(m): 6:16pm On Jul 25, 2018
This is the second part in the continuation of a series. You can find the first part here: https://medium.com/@futureofschool/lessons-from-the-start-up-of-you-part-1-50c25313049a

8. Your asset mix is not fixed. You can strengthen it by investing in yourself. If you think you lack certain assets that will make you more competitive, don’t use it as an excuse; start developing them.

9. Aspirations and values are both important piece of your career competitive advantage quite simply because when you’re doing work you care about, you are able to work harder and better. The person passionate about what he or she is doing will outwork and outlast the guy motivated solely by making money.
Note: Though your aspirations shape what you do, but your aspirations are themselves shaped by your actions and experiences. You remake yourself as you grow and as the world changes. Your identity does not get found, it emerges.

10. Smart entrepreneurs know a product won’t make money if customers don’t want or need it, regardless of how slick its form and function unless it meets the need of a paying market. Always keep in mind that the “market” is not an abstract thing. It consists of the people who make decisions that affect you and whose needs you must serve: your boss, your coworkers, your clients, your direst reports and others. How badly do they need what you have to offer, and if they need it, do you offer value that’s better than the competition? It’s often said that entrepreneurs are dreamers. True. But good entrepreneurs are also firmly grounded in what’s available and possible right now. Specifically, entrepreneurs spend vast amount of energy trying to figure out what customers will pay for. Market that don’t exist don’t care how smart you are. Similarly, it doesn’t matter how hard you’ve worked or how passionate you are about an aspiration: if someone won’t pay you for your services in the career marketplace, it’s going to be a very hard slog. Remember: You are not entitled to anything.

11. The most obvious way to improve your competitive advantage is to strengthen and diversify your set mix-for example, learn new skills. That’s certainly smart. But it’s equally effective to place yourself in a market niche where your existing assets shine brighter than the competitions. You can carve out a professional niche in the job market by making choices that make you different from the smart people around you. It’s important to understand, though, that while entrepreneur companies and people are always evolving, the choices they’re making are disciplined, not random.

12. ABZ Planning. Always have a plan A, plan B and plan Z. plan A is what you’re doing right now. It’s your current implementation of your competitive advantage. Within a plan A you make minor adjustments as you learn; you iterate regularly. Plan B is what you pivot to when you need to change either your goal or the route for getting there. Plan B tends to be in the same general ballpark as plan A. sometimes you pivot because you’re discovered a new opportunity that’s just better than what you’re doing now. Plan Z is the fallback position: your lifeboat. In business and life, you always want to keep playing the game. If failure means you end up on the street, that’s an unacceptable failure. So, what’s your certain, reliable, stable plan if all your career plans go to hell or if you want to do a major life change? That’s plan Z. The certainty of plan Z is what allows you to take on uncertainty and risk in your plans A and B.

13. learn by Doing. Any entrepreneur (and any expert on cognition/learning) will tell you that practical knowledge is best developed by doing, not just thinking or planning. Whatever the situation, actions, not plans, generate lessons that help you discover where you want to go and how to get there.

14. How to Pivot: Start it on the side. Start learning a skill during the evenings and weekends. Start building relationships with people who work in adjacent industry. Apply for a part-time internship. Start a side consulting practice.
Education / Re: Reasons I Hate The Nigeria School System by Futureschool(m): 8:19pm On Jun 21, 2018
The writer had only reiterated what is general knowledge ; we have a problem with our Educational System. Agreed. The key issue here for us all is ; what are we going to do about it? Listen ; you can't expect the same set of leaders that brought us into this mess to take us out. It won't happen.

So what are we all going to do about it? Please, stop complaining ; stop reacting, start responding. Let's propound solutions that can take us to the promise land. That was why I started Futureschool; my desire is to change the Educational narratives for Nigeria and Africa one step at a time.. . Join us.

Career / Lessons From The Start-up Of You (part 1) by Futureschool(m): 5:43pm On Apr 13, 2018
“All human beings are entrepreneurs. When we were in the caves, we were self-employed…finding our food, feeding ourselves. That’s where human history began. As civilization came, we suppressed it. We became “Labor” because they stamped us, “you are labor”. We forgot that we are entrepreneurs.
- Muhammad Yunus (Nobel Prize Winner and Microfinance Pioneer)

The Start-Up of You is a book by Reid Hoffman (Co-founder and Chairman of LinkedIn) and Ben Casnocha. The main idea about the book is the need to Adapt to the Future, Invest in Yourself and Transform your Career.

1. All humans are entrepreneurs not because they should start companies but because the will to create is encoded in human DNA, and creation is the essence of entrepreneurship. I have come to learn that the best way to predict the future is to create it. To adapt to the challenges of professional life today, we need to rediscover our entrepreneurial instincts and use them to forge new sorts of careers.

2. Whether you want to learn a new skill or simply be better at the job you were hired to do, it’s now your job to train and invest in yourself. These are the days of self-development; each of us must take responsibility for our own personal growth and development. The gap is growing between those who know the new career rules and have the new skills of a global economy, and those who clutch to old ways of thinking and rely on commoditized skills. The question is, which are you?

3. The business strategies employed by highly successful start-ups and the career strategies employed by highly successful individuals are strikingly similar. While the highly successful individuals may not have considered themselves entrepreneurs, their approach to life seemed every bit the Silicon Valley way: they were self-reliant in spirit, resourceful, ambitious, adaptive, and networked with one another. Like the best entrepreneurs, they did more than just dream; they went out and created the future they had imagined.

4. FINISHED must become a failure word for all of us. We are all works in progress. Each day presents an opportunity to learn more, do more, be more, grow more, stretch more and push more in our lives, businesses and careers. For entrepreneurs, finished is a failure word. They know that great companies are always evolving; hence as individuals, you must make a lifelong commitment to continuous personal growth.

5. If you want to chart a course that differentiates you from other professionals in the marketplace, the first step is being able to complete the sentence, “A company hires me over other professionals because….” You must ask yourself;
How are you first, only, faster, better, or cheaper than other people who want to do what you’re doing in the world?
What are you offering that’s hard to come by?
What are you offering that is both rare and valuable?
In life, there are multiple gold medals. If you try to be the best at everything and better than everyone, you will be the best at nothing and better than no one. Instead, compete in local contest- local not in terms of geography but also in terms of industry segment and skillset.

6. Your competitive advantage is formed by the interplay of three different, ever changing forces;
Your Assets
Your Aspirations/values
The market realities; i.e. the supply and demand for what you offer the marketplace relative to your competition.
Competitive advantage underpins all career strategy. It helps answer the classic question, “what should I be doing with my life?”. It helps you decide which opportunities to pursue. It guides you in how you should be investing in yourself. Because all these things change, assessing and evaluating your competitive advantage is a lifelong process, not something you do once.

7. Your assets are what you have right now. Before dreaming about the future or making plans, you need to articulate what you already have going for you- as entrepreneurs do. The most brilliant business idea is often the one that builds on the founders’ existing assets in the most brilliant way. Your business and career goals from emerge from your strengths, interests and network of contacts. You have two types of career assets to keep track of; soft and hard. Soft assets are things you can’t trade directly for money. They are the intangible contributors to career success while hard assets are what you would typically list on a balance sheet.

Career / 20 Things I Learnt Attending Live Your Dream Africa – Abia Edition by Futureschool(m): 9:30am On Feb 03, 2018
Live your dreams Africa (LYDA) is an initiative of Mr. Bankole Williams ; a foremost Nigerian management consultant. LYDA is an annual event organized in Lagos, Nigeria to spur young people to dream big dreams and pursue those dreams until they actualize them. This year, LYDA Convener decided to host an edition of the event in Abia State under the theme; “the unveiling”; it was an avenue for the unveiling of talents, ideas and strategies for effective planning and execution of dreams.

LESSONS LEARNT
1. Your persuasion and your vision should determine your decision.
2. There may not be jobs, but there is work to be done.
3. Your dream is valid. You can make it work.
4. You need to take necessary actions to fulfill your dreams.
5. You may not be able to control your past, but your future must not take you by surprise.
6. When a word does not crop up frequently in your conversation how can you experience it?
7. You are called to solve your frustration.
8. That you are doing activities does not mean you are productive.
9. Find your purpose.
10. Live your life. Live your dreams.
11. Reinvent yourself. Brighten your own corner.
12. Strive to be the best in your industry.
13. See your ideas as a solution.
14. If you don’t execute that dream, there are people that are going to suffer.
15. You cannot leave a legacy by doing solo runs. Learn to collaborate.
16. This is our time; and we must as o necessity take it by force.
17. We need to be consistent and become people of integrity.
18. There is no success without a story.
19. Never take NO for an answer. Always believe that there is a way around it.
20. If it is to be, it is up to you.

Career / The Two Key Tools Of Every Teacher by Futureschool(m): 8:33pm On Jan 21, 2018
No matter what you are teaching; be it subject based, course based or skill based; every teacher at the end of the day after all is said and done, has two key tools to work with; Fear or Passion, and each must choose his own.
1. FEAR
Most Teachers currently evoke fear in their students; the student becomes bugged down with the fear of failure, the fear of losing out, the fear of being ridiculed, the fear of being made fun of; laughed at or jeered at. Any teacher can evoke this; most teachers again currently evoke this. It is a sad reality, but one that is quite evident in the various approaches teachers are currently employing.
2. PASSION
Passion overcomes fear; any day, any moment, every time. Every teacher can inspire passion, every teacher MUST inspire passion. When passion drives a teacher, the teacher effortlessly assumes the position of a coach.
What does a coach do?
A coach helps his/her student to maximize his/her potential and also awaken latent potentials. The task of a coach is to help the students become the best they can be. That is why in coaching, the success of the student is the success of the coach; same goes for failure.
Coaching is a useful way of developing people’s skills and abilities and boosting performance. Coaching also helps the student deal with observable challenges before they become major problems.
Rules of Coaching
Every teacher needs to keep these rules at the back of their mind if they are to become an effective coach;
1. Coaching is founded on confidentiality and trust
2. The solution to every coachee’s issues lies within the coachee.
3. A coach develops rather than imposes; a coach spurs reflection rather than direct.
4. Effective coaching facilitates changes; that is it enables people rather than training them. It allows for personal transition on an individual basis, until the students individually decide and discover their required progression themselves.
5. Empathy is central to the coaching process.
Teachers should strive to inspire students and not make them afraid. Every teacher needs to know that if a student fails, it’s the system that fails not just the student. Hence every teacher MUST strive to become a coach.
Please share with every teacher you know.

Career / Re: Action Speaks Louder, Be Actionable In 2018 by Futureschool(m): 11:32am On Jan 17, 2018

Career / This Is How To Become Excellent At What You Do by Futureschool(m): 5:36pm On Jan 14, 2018
“The first rule of doing work that matters; Go to work on a regular basis”.
- Seth Godin
The universal truth of excellence simply states that “the only people who excel are those who have decided to do so”. The universal truth is really beyond question; people that become great are only great because somewhere along the line in their lives, they made up their mind to be great. Somewhere along the line in their individual journey’s they purposed in their heart to be the best that they can be.

How to Become Excellent
1) Commitment
“If you want what others do not have, you must be willing to do what others are not willing to do”.
The first step to becoming excellent is commitment. Until you are totally committed to a cause, you cannot get the most out of it. To become committed, you must answer the following questions;
Do I want to learn or do this?
What am I willing to give up to become good at this?
Note; Total concentration and complete devotion are the hallmark of excellence.

2) Seeking Constant Challenge
You must constantly challenge yourself. Every day present another opportunity for you to be better than you were the other day; you must consistently say to yourself that this is not good enough; I must dig deeper; I must forge father ahead. You must never stop challenging yourself; stretching yourself and pushing beyond your limits.

3) Mastery
“In order to master a field, you must love the subject and feel a profound connection to it. Your interest must transcend the field itself and border on the religious”
- Robert Greene
To become excellent, you must tend towards mastery; you must practice harder and move faster through the process. You must do the work required for excellence. You must become the best that you can be.

@tundelomo I can relate to your challenge ; currently experiencing same. But recently I decided that going forward, I am going to challenge myself by learning something new either directly related to my job description or acquire new set of skills. We all must never outsource our career development; we must take responsibility for our own growth while we seek for better opportunity or start something ourself. Please never you say that there is nothing new to learn. This is the 21st century; so much new skills to acquire. Cheers. Happy Christmas...

Business / This Is Why You Need To Stop Consuming And Start Creating by Futureschool(m): 10:49pm On Nov 09, 2017
“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit at home and think about it. Go out and get busy”.
- Dale Carnegie
The only way to self-improvement and personal development is by doing. Everyone needs to become a doer. When you consumes; you remain passive in nature, and many times your consumption no matter how genuine, useful and valid the initial reason for starting out on them, will always end in time wastage.
We were created and are meant to be creators. One question we need to keep asking ourselves daily is; what is my creation to consumption ratio?
Excessive Consumption Limits Creativity
Excessive consumption inhibits creativity; it sucks life, time and energy of you; preventing you from doing the work rather you will feel like consuming “just one more”; it is like a child that can’t have enough and always want just one extra more. Many of us have become Oliver Twist; all desiring more to consuming and finding it difficult to stop consuming.

Excessive Consumption Distract our Attention
It distracts our attention from what matters most; it inhibits our abilities and potentials but rather fuels our negative tendencies, leading to excessive and unnecessary investment of our time in activities that are very unproductive. Excessive consumption shifts our attention from doing “Deep Work” according to Cal Newporte. It makes us focus incessantly on that which is “Novel”; trying to catch up with every new fade rather than settling down for that which is essential and needed to be done.
How to Become a Creator
“When you limit the inflow, you increase the energy that can be directed towards your outflow. You create more than consume”.
- Srinivas Rao
Become a doer.
Write that book. Design that website. Compose that song. Doesn’t just be a dreamer; live the dream. Go out. Step out. Do the work. Stop rationalizing; there will never be a perfect time or place; now is the time. Challenge yourself; push beyond your limits. Stretch. Put your hands on the plow. Start something that you really care about. Move. Start. Kill fear. Show up. Make. Above all CREATE..
Remember; “The world only rewards those that get things done; not those that talk about them, think about them or fantasize about them”.
Education / This is why you need to become a Lifelong learner by Futureschool(m): 11:10pm On Oct 29, 2017
“Desperation is a necessary ingredient to learn anything, or creating anything. Period. If you aren’t desperate at some point, you aren’t interested".
— Jim Carry
The world has changed. Education has become democratized. Anyone can learn anything, anytime any day. But only a few numbers of people are making the most or taking advantage of the numerous opportunities available for learning. In the word of Seth Godin in one of his book on Education (Stop stealing dreams; what are schools for?) he said;
“Access to information has radically changed in just 10 years. Khan academy, Wikipedia, a hundred million blogs, and a billion websites mean that if you’re interested enough, you can find the answer, wherever you are. School, then, needs to deliver information so much as to sell kids on wanting to find it. Dumb used to be a byproduct of lack of access, bad teachers, or poor parenting. Today, dumb is a choice, one that’s made by individuals who choose not to learn. If you don’t know what you need to know, that’s fixable. But first you have to want to fix it”.
Fostering a Growth Mindset
“The purpose of learning is growth, and our minds unlike our bodies, can continue to growing as long as we live”. — Mortimer Adler.
World renowned Stanford university psychologist Carol Dweck in her outstanding book “Mindset” which she wrote after decades of research posits that there are two mindsets that shapes the view every human adopts for himself or herself which profoundly affects the way we lead our lives: these mindsets could determine whether you will become the person you want to be and whether you will accomplish the things you value. They are;
1) Fixed Mindset; which entails believing that your qualities are carved in stone — which creates urgency for you to prove yourself over and over.
2) Growth Mindset; which entails a believe that your basic qualities are things you can cultivate through your efforts; that cherished abilities and talents can be developed creating a passion for learning and stretching and challenging yourself again and again until you become better. Opportunities around us has become enormous thanks to the fourth industrial revolution which had made learning democratized such that you can keep improving yourself at any given time can only be maximized if you foster a growth mindset.
Becoming a Lifelong Learner
“In order to create an engaging learning experience, the role instructor is optional, but the role of learner is essential”. — Bernard Bull
Lifelong learning is about creating and sustaining a positive attitude to learning for personal development. This development could also be career-wise or professional. A lifelong learner is intrinsically motivated to learn and become better; it is a deliberate and intentional act which is practiced consistently with the hope of enhancing the quality of our life and better the world around us. Lifelong learning is a habit that we all must cultivate in this 21st century if we are to remain relevant and a force to reckon with in our chosen paths, careers and professions.
P. S: Leave a message for me if there is a topic you would love that I write about the future of school, learning and Education.

“Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe”.
- Abraham Lincoln
1) Pareto Principle; Better known as the 80/20 rule or as the law of the vital few originated from Vilfredo Pareto’s observation in 1906 that 80% of the land in Italy was owned by 20% of the population. This law emphasizes the need to put in more effort towards the most impactful action or task set before us and less action towards the less impactful ones. It implies that most of the important productive, rewarding accomplishments in our lives come from only a fraction of the time we put in. The key issue for all to learn is the fact that we don’t necessarily have to work “harder” so to say but to work “smarter” by focusing on things with high yield. We must find things to eliminate and say no to unproductive work. We must always weigh our opportunity costs and choose the smartest way of doing things especially when allocating our time, energy, resources and attention.
2) Parkinson’s Law
“We should be careful not to exhaust our available time on things that are merely good and leave little time for that which is better or best”. – Dallin Oaks
Also known as the Law of Triviality was propounded in 1957 by Cyril Northcote Parkinson when he observed that people often give disproportionate focus to trivial projects at work. The law states that “the time something will take depends on how much time you allot to it”. That is to say a task will always adjust itself to fit into allotted time either little or much. The law observed that we spend a good portion of our lives wasting time. Hence, the lesson for all is the need to set limits and constraints for activities in our lives; we must believe that we can do more with less. We also need to note that it is not only time that obeys this rule; it’s everything. Anytime you’re drawing on resources, the amount of it that you use will be affected by the amount you have at your disposal.
3) How To Learn
“One bit of advice; it is important to view knowledge as sort of a semantic tree- make sure you understand the fundamental principles i.e. the trunk and big branches, before you get into the leaves/details or there is nothing for them to hang onto”. – Elon Musk
Very often we confuse learning with schooling, but we need to know that while we can learn in school, we don’t need to go to school to learn and whereas school is structured, time bound and extrinsically regulated; learning can happen anytime, anywhere and any day and it is self-directed in nature giving you the opportunity to learn whatever you want. We need to also know that learning is a process and not a goal and if we must get the desire value from whatever we are learning, we must as of necessity commit to the process because learning has a compounding effect. True learning is progressive in nature; just like a building; first the foundation then the step by step laying on of blocks . Staying motivated is also key to really learn. True learning involves having a sense of purpose ; doing what you really want to do and improving your skill one step at a time, every single day.
N.B: Make sure you learn something that helps you solve current real world problems.

Education / Motivational Thoughts That Will Make You Achieve More. by Futureschool(m): 12:00am On Oct 07, 2017
“Everyone must create his own successful combinations with the ingredients he has. Each person has to discover what works for him”.
---- Garry Kasparov
Do not accept the life that you have been given; create your own. Who are you? What do you stand for? What are you living for and if need be; are willing to die for?
Remember; “if you don’t stand for something, you will fall for anything”.
What is your why? Why are you doing what you are doing? If your why doesn’t make you cry; that’s not your why. Don’t let friends, family, colleagues and other deter or distract you. Nobody will do for you what you’ve got to do. Only you can do it for yourself.
Remember; “If your why is strong enough, your how will materialize.
If you can dream it and think it, then you can do it. Nothing is impossible. You need to go for it and give it whatever it takes. You can become “whatever” you want to become. You will make mistake and fall along the way; but what you do after that is how you make history. Failure is not an option. If you will be great at what you want to become, obsession is necessary.
Remember; “you are who you are by the decisions and choices that you take or make.
