The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Board of Trustees, BoT, Adolphus Wabara, has warned President Bola Tinubu not to allow greedy and power-drunk anti-democratic forces to hijack Rivers State.
Wabara issued this warning in a statement he signed on Friday.
The PDP chieftain warned that the party won’t allow the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State amid the rift between Governor Sim Fubara and his predecessor, Nyseom Wike.

Wabara expressed worry over the political crisis in Rivers State.
He said, “There is nothing happening in the state that warrants the call for state of emergency as being demanded by these fake apostles of peace.”
The PDP BoT Chairman warned that any attempt to tamper with Fubara would spell doom for Nigeria.
He said, “I have keenly watched the political developments in Rivers State, and want to place it on record that PDP and the law abiding citizens of this country will not tolerate any attempt to derail democracy in the state.
“We won’t allow anti-democratic forces and insatiable elements hijack power through the back door in their desperation to hang on to power and hold the state to the jugular.
“Any attempt to scuttle the democratically elected PDP-led Government in Rivers is a recipe to a political unrest capable of consuming the entire country.
“I, therefore, call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, not to allow greedy and self overrated power drunks to push him into taking steps that could portray him as a despot, and ultimately plunge the country into avoidable upheaval.”
You guys should expel Wike from the party and see how politically irrelevant he will be, APC is messed up in Rivers State except he will form his own party and rest his popularity again in Rivers State, he can move his structures to the new party

I have read in newspapers, heard on radio and watched FRSC officials on TV saying the official fee for obtaining driving license is N6,500. A government official even said recently that we should report anyone that demands for more than N6,500. Last year, their oga at the top urged Nigerians not to pay anyone more than N6,500 for driving license. But I am yet to see any license holder who did not pay far more than that amount. Have I been talking to the wrong people? Is corruption truly being fought in this country?

The political fight in the garden state was never about money or about the Minister's "overbearing" influence.
It was simply a battle for the structure of the party in the state. The novice governor having ascended the throne with his godfather's blessing sought to overthrow his godfather as leader of the state.
He started this by attempting to remove the LG chairmen and replace them with CTC. He also planned to remove the legitimate speaker and install his preferred man, but the 27 lawmakers got wind of the this plot, suspended the 4 errant members and commenced the impeachment proceeding of October which the governor counteracted by instigating the burning of the House of Assembly by using his current CoS.
A lot persons know the truth and real origin of the crisis but ethnicity and desire to see the Minister fall by some pained loosers of 2023 elections is clouding minds.
**The person parading himself as speaker today and the one before him was suspended in October 2023. All actions taken are simply a nullity as they have no foundation.
**The governor doesn't have a legitimate budget and has been spending money illegitimately. I pity his commissioners who have no immunity.
**The structure he is fighting for, he will not get it. He is one-term governor.

They're not making mistakes but their efforts could be fruitless at the end of the day, that's all. They're saying that they should be the ones in the office through tenure extension pending the time that SIEC will conduct another election instead of replacing them with illegal CTC. The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Rivers State Chapter have reacted to the Rivers State Government under the leadership of His Excellency, Sir Siminialayi Fubara, GSSRS, over the purportedly appointed and sworn-in Care- Taker Committees to take over the 23 Local Government Councils of Rivers State.
Where the governor directed the probe of Local Govermment Accounts and the immediate payment of outstanding emoluments and allowances to all democratically elected political office holders in the Local Government Areas.
The ALGON through the press statement signed by Sir Allwell Ihunda DSSRS, categorically reject the planned payment of our emoluments and allowances by those they refer as usurpers who claim to be Care-Taker Committees for Local Governments in Rivers State.
ALGON said not only because Care-Taker Committees are unconstitutional, unlawful and unknown to the Rivers State Local Government Law but also because the matter of the expiration or otherwise of our tenure/term of office as democratically elected Local Government Chairmen in the subject matter is a pending litigation before the Courts and therefore subjudice.
They said they will not accept the payment of outstanding emoluments and allowances as directed by the Governor of Rivers State until such a time when the Courts have considered and resolved the legal issues involved between us and the Governor of Rivers State.
They find it rather curious and absurd to note that the same Governor of Rivers State who has been withholding Local Government Allocations/Funds including the emoluments and allowances of democratically elected Political Office Holders in the Local Government Councils, is now the one readily appointing illegal Caretaker Committees, releasing funds to them and directing them to immediately pay the outstanding emoluments and allowances to the same democratically clected Political Offce Holders, which he had been withholding.
‘It should by now be clear to even the visually impaired that the Governor is playing politics with governance and is allowing his personal political interests to influence his official conduct and decisions. This is inimical to the smooth running of the democratic process instituted under the Nigerian Constitution and contrary to the specific oath of office which he swore before God and Man. The Governor who took the oath of office and swore to uphold the law, "preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria that he will not allow his personal interest to influence his official conduct or official decisions" and that he will "do right to all manner of people, according to law, without fear or favour, affection or ill-swill" is now the same person impeding the smooth running of the System of Local Government by democratically elected Local Government Councils by withholding their funds, refusing to call for the conduct of Local Government Elections and appointing illegal Caretaker Committees who are told to operate from anywhere because their efforts at taking over the Council Secretariats have failed.”
Rivers ALGON okayed the further directives of the Governor of Rivers State to call for the probe of Local Government Accounts and said such a probe will be a welcome development at this time because it will not only afford the democratically elected Council Chairmen the opportunity of rendering accounts of their financial dealings under the leadership of Govenor Siminialayi Fubara GSSRS but will also enable the Governor to testify as the principal witness of the Chairmen during the probe as to his role and involvement with Local Government Funds, which he withheld.
They also called on the various bankers of the 23 Local Government Councils of Rivers State to respect the court process and refrain from dealing with the Caretaker Committees.
Said they are an aberration unknown to the Constitution of Nigeria and the Local Government Laws of Rivers State.

Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has sworn in caretaker committee chairmen and members for the 23 local government councils
Two of the CTCs from Bonny and Opobo LGA are seen as elongations of tenure by Rivers people as the two chairmen are LGA chairmen whose tenure expired on 17th June 2024.
The swearing-in followed the screening and confirmation of the nominees for caretaker committee chairmen and members by the State House of Assembly loyal to the governor Fubara at the plenary presided over by the factional Speaker, Rt. Hon. Victor Oko-Jumbo, on Wednesday.
Governor Fubara told the newly sworn-in CTC chairmen that their tenure will not be too long because the process for the conduct of fresh elections of local government chairmen and councilors in our State has started.
He warned them against any form of confrontation, insisting that such is not in his nature and style but advised them to be law-abiding as they take full control of the local government councils.
Governor Fubara urged them to ensure that they compute and pay the outstanding financial benefits and entitlements, including salaries of the chairmen loyal to Gov. Wike, their vice-chairmen, councilors, and their political appointees.

biographyinsigh: Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has asserted that the 1999 Nigerian Constitution does not allow for the extension of tenure for elected local government chairmen.
This announcement follows the governor's order for the heads of administration in the 23 local government areas to assume control after the elected council chairmen’s three-year tenure expired on Monday.
Fubara made this directive in a state broadcast on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.
Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, Fubara emphasized that the decision adheres to constitutional provisions and aims to maintain peace and order in the state.
He stated, “We will fearlessly lead the way to ensure that peace continues to prevail in the state while protecting all patriotic supporters for their stand on the path of truth.
“The law on local government tenure is unambiguous. The court clearly affirmed the position of the law.
“The law is the law; there is no extension of the local government’s tenure in it. The court says so.”
The governor pledged to protect his supporters and oppose any “grand plan to arrest” them.
Nobody is fighting you there's no war in Rivers State, the people are only reclaiming back the local government council from the expired LGA chairmen, you're at war and you cross leg like that in office and not in the bush.
