Religion / Re: Why Do GOtv And DStv Censor The Name Of God? by Geds: 8:56pm On Apr 25, 2017 |
Calm down people, I believe there is no hidden agenda behind this. If you carefully observe, DSTV basically mutes the name of God, when used in statements like 'Oh God!' or any other exclamation and not in statements like 'God will do ...' or 'Praise God'. I believe the former falls under the category of 'Do not use the name of the Lord your God in vain', and this is why they mute it. This I have no issues with and actually respect them for, if this is their reason. |

Politics / Re: Fuel Scarcity Paralyses Lagos, Other Major Cities -PUNCH by Geds: 2:22pm On Apr 05, 2016 |
I think NLC should add a bit of pressure to the pot by declaring an indefinite strike action. They need to seek an effective minimum wage increase by at least 50%, since the exchange rate, power situation and fuel situation has effectively reduced the purchasing power of Nigerians. Maybe, if the workforce fights back, the government will realise how desperate the situation is. |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Nestle!!!...why This????...sad!!! by Geds: 6:20pm On Jun 13, 2015 |
RileyFreeman1: I am sure they won't. Just be calm, it's always like that with multinationals. I know it cld be frustrating, trust me I know. But keep searching for other jobs, keep yourself busy and occupied. It is not a case peculiar to Nestle or Nigeria for that matter. If you decide not to take d Nestle offer when it comes because of this, you will only be dissapointed when you meet with such challenges in the future, especially multinationals. Like I said earlier, I'm quite sure those contract staff were employed based on another interview, because I wld like to think Nestle is one of the more transparent companies in Nigeria when it comes to recruitnent. I happen to know a lot of people who got in without knowing anyone. 1 Like 1 Share |

OP, I wish you had taken an entirely different course of action than putting this on nairaland. Most multinationals I know do this and mind you it is not restricted to Nigeria alone. The truth is most positions in multinationals are interviewed in order to fill them the next financial year as salaries have to be included in budgets. Checking online, you will find stories across tge world related to your case and all of them would advice you to keep on with your job hunt till you get your appointment letter. Having said that, I also had to wait for 7 months after my final interview before I got my letter at one multinational firm. I am very positive you will get your letter, but Nestle might not be pleased with the fact that you have put the company in a negative light and may withdraw their offer because of your action, multinationals as a rule detest bad publicity. As regards the other positions being filled out by contract staff, you would most likely discover that they had their interview at a much earlier time than you had yours. My advice is keep searching, take up other roles if they do come, but I am quite certain you will get the offer. 1 Like |
Education / Re: (photo): This Is By Far The Best Definition Of School I Have Seen All My Life by Geds: 6:28am On May 18, 2015 |
It is only when we see education as a means of solving d society's problem and not just a means of getting a job that we can truly value its worth. In developed societies, things a created, ideas are generated and solutions are provided through educated individuals, hence the value for education. Students and graduates should think more of how they can solve the challenges we face in this country. Until we do, we will not move forward, nor appreciate the value of education. |
Religion / ISIS Fighter Becomes A Christian After Being Denied Entry Into Heaven by Geds: 8:45am On Feb 28, 2015 |
An ISIS jihadist has recently converted to Christianity after being left for dead near the Eastern border of Syria where he was finally rescued by Christian missionaries from the region, reports the Aleppo Herald this morning. The man, that has miraculously survived multiple gun shot wounds after an altercation between ISIS and Syrian Army forces, was rescued by members of the Saint Dominican Catholic Presbytery of Ayyash hours after the conflict had erupted. The members of the Christian organization wanted to give the man a proper Christian burial and carried him over 26 kilometers before the man miraculously came back to life as he was believed to have died from his wounds. As the man came back to his senses, he reported to priest Hermann Groschlin of the visions he had whilst in the afterlife, an event that profoundly changed the 32- year old jihadist and eventually led to his conversion to Christianity days later. “He told me that he was always taught that to die as a martyr would open him the Gates of Jannah, or Gates of Heaven” recalled the priest. “Yet, as he had started to ascend towards the light of the Heavens, devilish entities, or Jinns he called them, appeared and led him to the fiery pits of Hell. There he had to relive all the pain he had inflicted upon others and every death he had caused throughout his entire life. He even had to relive the decapitations of his victims through their own eyes” , images the jihadist claims will haunt him for the rest of his life, admits the priest. “Then Allah, or God, spoke unto him and told him that he had failed miserably as a human soul, that he would be banned from the Gates of Heaven if he chose to die, but that if he chose to live again, he would have another chance to repent of his sins and walk along God’s path once again” The young man claims he was brought back to life moments later and eventually converted to Christianity days later, believing he had been misled throughout his religious life under the worship of Allah. The young man, who’s wounds have surprisingly healed in a very short time, has chosen to live amongst the members of the Catholic presbytery who rescued him from the desert and hopes his story will help other ISIS fighters change their ways and convert to the one and only true God, the priest told local reporters. TV/Movies / Re: Film House Cinema, Heritage Mall Razed By Fire In Ibadan! by Geds: 1:45pm On Jan 11, 2015 |
Here to correct the impression created by this thread. Contrary to what the OP said about the mall completely burnt down, only a few shops were actually affected. Filmhouse was badly affected though. But the shops around filmhouse were still open yesterday. There's another filmhouse outlet at the Ventura mall, which I think would greatly benefit from this unfortunate incident as it had previously not had as much customer base as the other malls in Ibadan. The palms mall at Ring Road badly needs a cinema in my opinion. 1 Like |

Sports / Re: Moses Begged Mikel Before Taking The Penalty Against Ethiopia by Geds: 6:11pm On Feb 01, 2013 |
To all Mikel bashers, please note that he was involved in Nigeria's first two goals at the afcon and he doesn't lose possession of the ball easily. I didn't watch the Ethiopia game, but I'm sure he would have been one of the better performers on that day. You see, when the media (especially the british media) start to report something - even if it is totally untrue- people start believing it. Unfortunately, Mikel is a victim of this. It would be better if we all draw conclusions about his performances ourselves and not based on media reports. Our conclusions should take into consideration his role and what he is meant to do in that position and most importantly without bias. Just leave the poor kid alone. At least he is one of Nigeria's best players (believe it or not). 2 Likes |

Career / Re: Geez! No Industrial Engineers On Nairaland! Pity! by Geds: 7:36am On Sep 04, 2012 |
To your first question, there are currently no specializations in the undergraduate program. Although, most graduates go on to specialize in areas such as project management, operations research, human factors engineering and supply chain management. To your second question, The first year's curriculum entails the basic science courses i.e. Physics, maths, statistics and chemistry. To your third question With the skills I've learnt, I can manage projects usimg tools such as critical path method (CPM), Project evaluation and review technique (PERT) and network analysis. I can also function effectively in supply chain management, using my knowledge of demand forecasting and inventory management. I can also work in the maintenance department of any organization, using my knowledge of reliability engineering, maintainability, inventory management and engineering economics. My training in safety and reliability engineering will also be very useful in any oil and gas industry. The skills I have gained studying this course, can be applied in various fields, but I feel I am adequately prepared for the ones I have listed above. I am really glad you are intetested in this course, as the country needs mote Industrial engineers to ensure that firms perform optimally. 3 Likes |

Computers / Re: FG Enforces Ban On Foreign Computers: HP, LG & Samsung To Lose by Geds: 6:51pm On May 16, 2012 |
Can't you all just calm down and re-read the post. The ban only applies to public institutions and not individuals and private institutions. For example, a govt secretariat can't purchase H.P. Computers for their offices, but someone working there can still purchase one for his own personal use. You can also stock your classrooms with foreign computers if you own a private school. Politics / Nigerians Should Protest, But Should It Be For Fuel Subsidy? by Geds: 12:00am On Jan 06, 2012 |
It is not that Nigerians are protesting that saddens me, it is that they are protesting for the wrong reasons. Instead of us to ensure judicious use of the funds freed up by subsidy removal and make sure transport is subsidized and workers salaries are increased, we want government to revert to the old ways of doing things and keep paying the people who smuggle subsidized fuel out of the country, yet we continue to decry the lack of infrastructure and jobs in the country. Have we not yet learnt that after 51 years of running the country the same way, it is not working. At least state governors will no longer have excuses for not developing their states. We all should take to the streets to challenge corruption and cost of governance, not fuel subsidy removal. Please let us all rethink our strategy so that our children will not pay the price for our mistakes just as we are paying the price of our fathers. |
Education / Re: Is University Of Ibadan Any Better Than Covenant University? by Geds: 7:01pm On Nov 15, 2011 |
@op the fact that you've labelled all federal university students as people from poor families and have gone further to insult their parents by calling them lazy, shows you've had an education I do not envy, even if you studied at harvard. |

Education / Re: School Fees Of Church-owned Universities In Nigeria by Geds: 7:02pm On Sep 03, 2011 |
I'd like to ask the OP a few questions. 1. Do you believe in God? 2. Do you believe in God's word? 3. Do you think God wants us to obey His words? 4. If its not important, why do you think God will ask us to pay tithe? Answer each of these questions and then reconsider your post. |
Education / Re: No Nigerian University Among Africa's Top 40. . .ui-41, Ilorin-42,abu-43 by Geds: 2:33pm On Aug 06, 2011 |
It's not as bad as we all paint it, it's just that our professors and lecturers have refused to publish their research works online. The truth is, some Nigerian universities are far better than most of the universities listed here, at least U.I. is, or can you really say that University of Mogadishu in Somalia, which has been listed higher than all Nigerian Universities, is better? |
Business / Re: Mike Adenuga Might Be Africa’s Richest Man - Forbes by Geds: 6:54pm On Jul 16, 2011 |
I really don't understand the cynical comments some Nigerians make. How can someone say Adenuga and Dangote aren't beneficial to Nigerians. Take out their businesses and see how unemployment would increase. From the guy selling recharge cards and the woman selling foodstuffs to the top management M.D. |
