Hi folks, Merry Christmas.
Is anyone receiving Silverbird on Intelsat 904- 60 East in East Africa, precisely Uganda?
I have an 8 feet dish but the tps aren't locking, they are all red.

Insights in tracking this bird are welcome.
Many thanks.

Hi folks, am using Strong SRT 4930.
Some one kindly share with me the most recent (1 week ago) powervu keys especially for Intelsat 20 68.5East- APL, Discovery etc.

About 2 weeks ago the keys I was using were active but have now gone down.

Many thanks.

Chinedu7:

@geman If your dish is motorized, you can actually have Smile of a Child on Apstar as long as you have 2.4m and above. It's a very sensitive channel to have, you could have to sacrifice the signal quality of other channels to have it. It actually falls a little bit off the rest, I mean if you have motorized setup on Apstar with maximum signal quality on other channels, you will have to move your Motor slightly to maximize TBN, that is actually why it's hard on static setup. If you want it back on your setup, you need a Motor.

@Chinedu7,
Many thanks for the very informative piece, I appreciate. Since my dish is not motorized, I will change the lnb and try again.

By the way, on the market in Kampala, there is a Cband Stargold SG105k lnb. Have you come across it and tested it?

@geman,
Yes, TBN package on SES 4/C (22W) is still roaring hot. Use 3825h, 8950sr to track
and make sure your dish size is at least 1.8M. As for the package on Apstar (76E) that beam is a spot beam
for Asia so difficult to track from here.
Hope this helps?

@Geore D1
Many thanks for the response. I have a 2.4M dish. I was receiving it before but my Titanium LNB shorted and had to replace it with an old Eurostar lnb, which has not yet caught it.
What Lnb are you using over there?
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Free To Air Satellite Tv General Thread by geman(m): 9:50pm On Sep 14, 2016
East Africa,
Is there any one receiving the TBN package on 22West C band or 76East - Apstar C band? I was receiving it on 22west but it disappeared. I am particularly interested in Smile of a Child channel.

Kindly share any leads for me to get this package. Many thanks.

geman:
Hi folks, the TBN package on C band 22West has disappeared. I have also tried to catch it at Apstar 76East, to no avail. Is anyone receiving it?
Kindly advise

Secondly, I have a titanium C1-PLL c band lnb that seems to have shorted. On the display screen of my SRT 4930, it shows LNBF. I took it to an electronics repair man, who changed the regulator but still to no avail. I paid quite a sum to get this c band about 2 years ago and wouldn't want to lose it.
Kindly advise.

Thirdly, I have seen a C Band Lnb in the market here in Kampala, Uganda; it is a Stargold SG 105k. Has any one used it before, does it help with fringe reception?

Many thanks.

Hi Folks,
Thanks for the insight.
For those in Uganda, I have a brand new C band LNB (Titanium C1-PLL) from the USA, on sale.
Reviews rate it highly with regards to tracking frequencies with high FEC.
For details, drop me mail in my inbox.

I'm sorry if this is the wrong thread.
Many thanks.

hi greymwasonko,
Sorry to you all, this is off-topic but I need help, tried to send you (grey') email but failed; I have a cousin in Mombasa Likoni that needs setup (dish-90cm, appropriate receiver and the whole connection) for intelsat 20 (68.5 degrees East), to be able to watch Emmanuel TV. I am in Uganda and unable to help her out at the moment because of the distance.

I must appreciate you for the good work done with this installations.
I have a 90cm dish positioned at 52.5E Yahsat 1A and 57E NSS12 on top of it but would like to
add a third LNB for 68.5E Ins7/10 Ku. Kindly guide me on how I can improvise a stand for the third LNB
since it will have to be above that of NSS12.

Many thanks.

Ibaku: yes it doesn't but if u are very good at it, that shouldn't be a problem.i have done sky uk with it.

Hi,
I face a similar challenge on my SRT 4930. I however, use a Technosat T-888 for the tracking because I find
it more handy, since I have more experience with it and then the speed leads of the signal when approaching
a Sat.
I am tempted to think that it is the nature of the Receiver. If someone has a solution to this challenge,
kindly share.

All the best folks.

Thankx aplenny doo! Hey, what's the least dish size for hitting it? Pardon my ignorance. My East is blocked for usage with my 1.8m but clear for 90cm. Will take a test ride to figa it out although I know it'll be a very arduous and long journey. Thankx once more, man.

@lovala,
Thanks for your question.
I am using a 90cm dish and am able to track both Yahsat 1A- 52.5E & NSS12- 57E on the same dish.
Like one author put it, you can get Fox middle East and Fox series on Yahsat 1A. By the way I reside in
Kampala, Uganda.
Hope this is helpful to you.

Hope ya'll are fine.
I have failed to call up the BISS key edit window on Astrovox VSR 8900. I tried the 8943 & 8888 after upgrading the receiver software to "VSR-8900 HD_3602_V6_14112011" but all in vain.

Someone kindly come to my aid, how do I pull this off?
Many thanks.

However, about being useless, I am not sure about that,

kabspat:

Dear Geman,

Thanks for the info. I will be greatful if you send me more. I had a smaller dish (DSTV), so I will look out for the bigger dish and the LNB. I hope its not so costly. Secondly are you getting channels like MBC 12345 Persia, Dubai one? Then if I get one bigger than 1.8, can I be able to get Nile sat and Arabsat together?

Best Regards

Hey kabspat,
I am not able to receive MBC channels, Dubai one etc. This is because the size of my dish is small and also like I mentioned, one needs a very good LNB.

The fact that Nilesat is @ 7deg West and Arabsat @ 30.5 Deg East, it is not possible to track both on the same dish at the same time. However, if you want to use the same dish to track both, you will have to acquire a motorized bigger Dish (I think 2.4m minimum) such that you can occasionally move it to Nilesat or Arabsat as you so desire.
You can also use that one dish if it is not motorized such that you time and again move it by yourself to the specific Satellite. (This is rather tiring but depending on what you like, you can always go the hard way).

The other alternative is to acquire 2 Dishes of the same Size, like George said earlier "Solid Dishes" and then position them at the respective Satellites. This would do if you want to have both birds on at the same time. With this, then you would have to go into acquiring a Diseqc Switch.

All the best.

Hey, kabspat,
Try out this link for the start; https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-419494.32.html.
As you search, you'll get better info on the same.

To digress a little, did you purchase that Humax receiver from Kampala, Uganda? If you did, please give me leads on where I can get one as well.

All the best.

Dear All, I am new to the Freesat stuff but found it fascinating. I bought a Humax receiver and I want to use to receive ARABSAT/BADR in Uganda. Can someone help me on how to set it up what to use. Secondly, can I be able to receive Nilesat in Uganda (Kampala)

Best regards

Hi kabspat,
Welcome to Nairaland. I am not a guru yet but I have never been the same ever since I joined this forum. Trust me you will learn lots.

About your question, I am also based in Kampala and with my 1.8m solid ground mount dish, Technosat T-888 receiver, I have been able to track Arabsat @ 30degrees East C- Band, Badr 5 @ 26Deg East Ku-Band and Nilesat 201 @7degrees ku- Band.
I don't know your dish size but like George earlier posted, Ku for Arabsat @ 30deg u'll need a bigger dish than 1.8m. For Nilesat, to benefit very well, you need a bigger dish than 1.8m and a very good LNB. One of the LNBs recommended is Fuji; however, I have not yet tested it.

Otherwise, like I said, I am not yet a guru but I I have learnt a lot.
Try to check on this forum for more detailed information on the set up. What I gave above is shallow, I'll try to check on the forum and post some links for you as well.

Hope what I have shared above makes sense and contributes to solving your query.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: High Definition Receivers(hd) by geman(m): 2:26pm On May 19, 2011
Hey Folks, hope you are doing great.

I seek to be enlightened; Can an Astrovox VSR 8900 HD PVR receiver, receive signals in Mpeg4 format?

If yes, am I right to say that any HD Receiver can automatically receive DVB-S, DVB-S2, Mpeg2 and Mpeg4 formats of signals?

I'll be grateful for your due responses.

Many thanks.

Hi,
Enter pin 1978 to access the menu, easy from there

Hey Mankuri,
I appreciate your reply, however, that pin allows entry of other frequencies but the Decoder doesn't recognize them.
If anything, the only fta channels that I was able to watch were those that were left at the same position of Gtv dish, after it went off.

I tried to use the same decoder to catch FTA channels from other Birds but all in vain.

Hey Buddie,
Now that is interesting. Are you meaning that there is another way of connecting the cable to a USB port?

Please educate me on this and if possible show me some pics of the same.

Will be very grateful.

Many thanks.
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Laptop Port For Connecting Receiver by geman(m): 1:47pm On Feb 03, 2011
Lov4sat:

@geman,
You can buy a RS232 to USB cable at any computer shop around you. this will enable you connect your box to your laptop

Hi Lov4sat,
I appreciate your response. However, like I said earlier, the Laptop has a provision for a Video cable which uses 15pins meaning that the port on my laptop has 15 holes/ slots while my receiver has a port with 9 pins. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite A205.

Please advise.

Many thanks.
