Nairaland / General / Re: Ticket To Oil And Gas Gala Night Goes For N10M, And N300M For Table. by Godogwu: 1:08pm On Sep 13, 2012 |
I dont believe this thing one bit. I heard it was in yesterday's papers but still, only a plain dumb person can go for this. Like!, even if you paid just the regular which is N10m there's a great chance EFCC will look into you case, not to speak of paying N300m for a table.....even if it were 10 people to a table. If this were something for the likes of big business tycoons like Dangote, Adenuga, Jim Ovia, Otedola etc, it may be very much reasonable because they actually made that money themselves but as a government worker/ politician it would be quite stupid to go for this sort of thing if working for the government and politics is all you do. Well let's watch and see, 29th isn't far... |

Travel / Re: Weirdest Ways To Identify A Nigerian Abroad by Godogwu: 1:31am On Sep 04, 2012 |
Well I guess it depends on how well the Nigerian abroad ( visitor or resident ) is educated and exposed. Ive been in and out of US for about 2years ( student) and I can pick out an African atleast 90% of the time but I can't really say picking out a Nigerian is easy. I can only tell maybe by the accent or the way they carry themselves. We tend to be loud when having fun, chatting ( maybe about football), arguments and all but in general Nigerians can turn almost any event to a party....and I'll also say we can be extravagant. This same way Nigerians can be economical too which helps us "show off" sometimes because we save to spend.. I really don't agree with most of what the poster is saying tho....on average an educated Nigerians English is way more polished and better than any other Africans. |

Kobojunkie: The guy was simply saying that Nigeria was already bougled up with problems before he assumed office and some ignorant people make it seem that it's his fault there isn't steady power, good roads and some even make it seem like he controls Boko Haram . That's just utter rubbish. Come to think of it, he has done pretty well after just two years in government, well fact still remains that some ignorant ones here would keep insulting him and all but I'm sure that isn't going to change his salary or the fact that he is still the president of Nigeria. |

Car Talk / Re: Overhead Pictures Of Ladipo Car-Parts Market In Lagos by Godogwu: 5:20pm On Aug 27, 2012 |
It obliviously looks dirty and disorganized, but I'm sure its not going to be like this in a little while because different reforms are taking place in Nigeria. Fact still remains that if the Lagos state government decided to throw these people out in a bid to reconstruct that place sinappropriate a period of one year and make it more pleasant to the eye, some dealers of these parts would protest and some Nigerians would protest too....saying that they were not giving an alternative and bla!. Well I believe the state government has bigger problems at hand and I'm sure they'll get to this in due time, but till then I'm sure nobody is complaining because you can always find whatever parts you need in places like this screw the disorganization. |

Travel / Re: What Are The Most RACIST Countries? by Godogwu: 4:13pm On Aug 22, 2012 |
People should not confuse race with ethnicity. Race refers to groups of people who have differences and similarities in biological traits, deemed significant by the society. Ethnicity on the other hand refers to shared cultural practices, perspectives, and distinctions that set apart one group of people from another. Racism is the belief that races have distinctive cultural characteristics determined by hereditary factors and that this endows some races with an intrinsic superiority over others and also the abusive or aggressive behaviour towards members of another race on the basis of such a belief. Frankly I don't know which country is more racist, but I'm certain Racism still exist in each and every one of those countries. I just like to believe that it is diminishing slightly as years go by. Finally there is nothing like racism in Nigeria, maybe tribalism but not racism. I've never heard that someone shot and killed another person because he's black/white/Asian/Hispanic whatever......and tribalism is only something that some very stupid, ignorant and shallow minded Nigerians practice. 1 Like |

manbuchai: You should also do some research and say what you know....who told you the European countries don't have mineral resources....just so you know the united states has oil and also a great level of agricultural endowment, these I know of. Yea, I've said this before, don't compare Nigeria to European countries.....they all gained independence before Nigeria and Nigeria had a lot to deal with after we gained independence just like any other African country. Please show me which African country that can be compared in any way to the united states, Uk or China. Finally, I've been to 3 continents outside Nigeria and I can tell you figuratively that each country I've been to has their own problems....I'm currently studying in US and I can tell you that there are commas in this country...people talk about them almost everyday. Nigeria isn't a failed state, we even have a middle class, obviously we haven't reached our full potential because of hindrances like corruption, bad governance etc but we are slowly overcoming each obstacle and in due time people who are ashamed to be Nigerians will come back and be patriotic. I am always proud to be Nigerian, always! |

rakumiii: Nigeria is not a joke!! It is the most populous black nation on earth, with a thriving economy and good people. Yes, Nigeria has problems but so does every other country Aii.... The fact that we have corruption in the system doesn't make it a joke, and if you have answers to all the problems Nigeria faces why don't you offer them instead of saying utter rubbish. |

manbuchai: Oh because Nigeria has Oil it should be competing with most western countries?, please when was oil discovered in Nigeria and don't you also think all these other western countries have abundant natural resources also? Fact is that they do and have been utilizing their resources way before Nigeria was created and as Nigeria develops these other countries develop too, they don't remain stagnant. |

@OP This is a clearly a well written piece as it sheds light on the various places Nigerians feel downcast to be part of the country, nevertheless I would say this is a trying time for the country and frankly I detest it when people compare Nigeria to America. The fact is America is about four times older, more industralized and more developed than Nigeria. Nigeria is barely 52 years of age and we are bound to have problems, we cannot asin cannot be the perfect Nation as at now, No way!( just so people know... there's no perfect nation) ...please feel free to correct me if there's another country 52 years of age that is on the same level with the United Sates. Comparing both countries is like comparing a 40 year old man to a 12 year old boy and asking why the boy isn't as wise, as agile or as diligent as the man. I can and will never ridicule my Country ( I can comment on its problems but I can't write the country off) . Yes, Nigeria has problems; the educational sector isnt swell hence private schools, no sort of healthcare, electricity and security is not left out....but hey, Rome wasn't built in a day......you don't expect Nigeria to be as industralized as the US only after 52 years? Do you?, like is it magic? Each problem Nigeria faces as of today will be systematically dealt with in due time and that is for sure. I always say it....."Nigerian and PROUD!" and to me Nigeria is already blessed. 2 Likes |
Car Talk / Re: Is Having A Car A Sign Of Prosperity? by Godogwu: 2:43pm On Aug 15, 2012 |
@OP, your question is pretty vague. A lot of factors come to determine if having a car is a sign of prosperity, for example; type of car, year, cost and how it was paid for. If somebody who has never had a car before buys the 2012 X6, 2012 ML or 2012 Range rover and paid cash, then there's no doubt that person is prospering. In another case, when someone already owns like 2 pretty nice cars like a 2011 E-class and a 2012 ML and the person decides to add a 2009 Camry to his/her fleet....I wouldn't see this as prosperity. Nevertheless, owning a car means owning a property but just as some have said, it's just secondary (luxury)... |

Only in Nigeria, you can find the richest black man alive. Only in Nigeria that we have the first African woman ever to be nominated for the World Bank president. Only in Nigeria, we have one of the fastest growing world economies Only in Nigeria, we have the 3rd largest movie industry in the world. Only in Nigeira, we produce people who grow to be the most educated in the US. Only in Nigeria, do we have diaspora Nigerians who always critise their birth country and homeland Only in Nigeria, that the country has the second largest economy in sub-Saharan Africa Only in Nigeria, we have citizens that think all politicians are rich and are thieves. Only in Nigeria, we have the best music industry and artistes in the entire continent! Only in Nigeria, we have an Islamic sect that wants to convert everyone to Muslim and go around bombing Christians in the North and the ignorant people blame the president. Only in Nigeria, will ignorant Nigerians and Diaspora Nigerians compare Nigeria that is merely 52 to countries like USA that are over two centuries old. Only in Nigeria, where we are known as the Giants of Africa!!, and some ignorant Nigerians and diaspora Nigerians act like dwarfs to their European subordinates. 4 Likes |
