Yeah but you listed it under supposedly socialist leaning policies, which makes me wonder if you really know what socialism is and what capitalism is

Bro, anything Conservatives hate is "socialism".... "Oh look at these wind turbines, they're socialists".

Let's end the pointless debate.

I almost want to scream, "Denel was the largest 20 years ago but it is just 6 companies out of over 250 defence companies in SA, you idiots! There has always been a play! If you had backed the other 200 companies they would have grown and the UAE, Turkish and Saudi companies run and staffed by Saffer talent wouldn't be eating our lunch!"

JZ killed Denel... I was honestly hoping the new Defence minister was going to anyone besides someone who came from the JZ administration.

It has always been my preferred replacement for the R-series as a domestic licenced production, for a variety of reasons. Somewhat related to the R-series making for seamless transition in terms of logistics; a cinch and cheaper to set up a production line; none of the complications of an AR-type platform which domestic producers like ADG favour; and avoids the geo-politics of the obvious licence update with Israeli IWI.

Interesting... I was not aware of such. I guess I have not been paying much attention to the military lately.

Moral of the story? We should do everything we can to improve public utilities, as to paraphrase former guerilla, then Bogota mayor and now Colombia president, Gustavo Petro, " A developed country is not a place where the poor have cars [private services]. It's where the rich use public transportation [public utilities].

I think you guys also need a fast train between the airport, the CBD and surrounding towns, something like the Gautrain. I don't know if there's a feasibility study on it. Cape Town remains the only major "international" city without one.

**That's not me who's about to ride the Gautrain grin**

Come now, "socialist/communist" now means whatever the Right does not like!
For example: Republicans who decry Trumpian protectionism and advocate for free trade are "socialists"!
Dems hankering for similar such are "communists"!
grin grin grin

It's like that popular phase "Democrats eat babies"..... Basically, that's how you scare Conservatives. grin

Dude there is literally no socialist at the highest levels of the Democratic party. Clinton as centrist as he is, still has strong influence within the Dems.

This is in stark contrast to GOP that has chased away all their Neo conservatives in favour of Populism and worship of Trump.
Bush, Mitt Romney, Cheney etc are nowhere to be found within the corridors of GOP today.

An excellent Saturday for SA sports in Perth.
The Springboks retained the Mandela Challenge Plate, and Dricus defended his title.

You're putting it lightly when you say "Dricus defended his title"... Let's just say, a certain Canadian rapper lost by betting against a South African grin

how is the oryx superior to the Mi17

60% of SA is a gigantic inland plateau, the air is thin, European helicopters choke... Whatever "altitude" and "lift abilities" the Mi17 has on paper, just subtract it by a few dozen points.

Apparently some time back in 2018 the Russian and Syrian counterparts (reportedly 500 total) tried to take a Conoco gas plant that 40 or so US SOF and Kurdish militia held. This day,the Russians witnessed the awesome spectacle of American aerial fire power.
Of interest is that of as now ,Russia, with its supposedly powerful air force, hasn't been able to dominate the skies in Ukraine. The S-400s and S-300s haven't lived up to the hype they had before the war. grin grin

Most likely Russia exaggerates the S-400's effectiveness .In my opinion Russias only bargaining chip in the great power competition is its nuclear capabilities.

The things we have been saying all along.... Russia/Soviets are/were never great at war, the only reason why they even won against the Nazis was all thanks to the Allied Forces pounding on the western front and the relentless air bombing on the Nazi infrastructure, otherwise Adolf would have blitzkrieged Stalin to Japan.

I mean, look at their latest offense in the north east of Ukraine, they throw in 3 tanks, a few unlucky drunk dudes on top of APCs and just pray to St Peter for the best (only to be taken out by POV drones)... The only good thing the Russians have going is artillery.

I would like to see a joint training between the KDF and SANDF elite units... that would be interesting to see.

Boss what do you make of this...?

I find it diabolical tho... sanctioning a country that has experienced the evils of apartheid simply because they're fighting against same apartheid.

The international system is so messed up.

Republicans are now the majority in Congress... they're Israeli simps and of course, it's a scare tactic.

Rwandese radars and SAM have been spotted inside the borders of the DRC, supporting M23. They actually tried to shoot down an Italian Falco UAV, in service with the UN.

Things are going to get very interesting, all because Kagame was allowed to shelter these murderers, after they were defeated back in 2013.

That SAM looks like food for artillery.

It also does not help that the Kenyans shook hands, drank coffee with the them, and let them off like that. They have regrouped, re-armed and ironed out their tactical shortfalls, they're now a different M23.

This BS pisses me off. Almost a year to the day when a sniper shot at an Oryx in the DRC, injuring the pilot and killing Flight Sergeant Mabena, this happens.
The common denominator? Both aircraft were sent out without a pair of Rooivalk to provide top cover, as SAAF doctrine demands.

Imagine an Orxy being shot down and crew killed or captured. Imagine the bad PR it would have on our military..

I say the S. African contribution to the DRC UN mission should be scrapped, we have done more than enough there, the country will never be fixed as long as Paul Kagame is still in the Rwandan leadership.
