Just to add to this...... Including more than enough evidence of employment in a company can help clear the CO's doubts and possibly prevent verificaton altogether. So it's good to include payslips, bank statements showing salary deposits(you can even highlight this so its immediately visible to the CO) and any other documentation proves employment.

bellong:
@All,

To those at the ITA stage, please ensure that the person you are nominating in your employment reference as the line manager is conversant with all your information. The person should also be willing to take necessary steps when contacted by DIBP.

Don't use someone who has been looking for a way to deal with you or doesn't want you to leave their company. It is pathetic that someone's boss jeopardized the Visa application by providing information different from what DIBP has. Application was refused on that note with millions wasted.

I am hoping that that particular application will encounter a turn around for good.

If you use your friend in the company, it is better than using a bitter boss.

Congratulations to all those that got PR and positive assessments.

@mumzt
Since the assessment recognizes the qualification as being earned in 2000, then I guess all post qualification work experience can be claimed. Engineers who have gone through this can share their views though, this is just my own thought.

mumzt:
Good evening house,
Please can someone help look at this letter and help me understand.

It's the result of my husband's assessment. It doesn't seem to mention anything about years of experience at all. Does this mean all the years claimed is approved or disapproved. Please help, it's causing a bit of argument between my husband and I.

Cc @bellong, @zanyzara, @mamajaz, everybody please.

Thank you.

Regarding braided wigs, I think you should start by bringing a few when you are coming to see how you fare, then you can order for more subsequently, just to minimize your risk (the black population here is very low and fashion doesn't seem to be our priority as I found grin . For information on bringing in commercial quantity, you should be able to get this on the Australian border and customs website.

On living in Bexley, I have never been there but I looked it up and its not far from the city as you found, however, you can find information on suburb review on www.homely.com.au

Good day all, I'm a new nairalander and i have been following this thread for a while. My family will be moving to Sydney in 2 months on an official secondment (visa subclass 457) from Hubby's office here in naija. Thank you all for the enlightenment however I need to clear my doubts on certain things;
I currently work with a bank here -9 years of experience to be precise and I'm going to resign to give this opportunity a try as we have been looking for such avenues to migrate to give a solid platform to our kids,
1. I'm planning to buy a few braided wigs to sell while looking for a job in Sydney. I don't have anyone there but I plan to join a parish of our home church over there asap, would you consider this a good venture and any immigration law against importing such.
2. We will be given accommodation for abt 2 weeks to enable us search for ours, I was impressed with Bexley NSW 2207 reviews online cos of the schools and proximity to the CBD where hubby will be working, anyone in this area? What are your pros and cons associated with living there?
3. I'm torn in between knowing what to buy from here for the kids, can o buy school bags, lunch boxes, food flasks and a few other accessories to start d kids on over there?

Thank you all for your prompt reply.

PS - this is my first time of posting here so pardon my errors if any.

You can fill the form and include the fingerprints from the comfort of your home, you don't need to visit the police station.

Ethelia:
Please I have a question regarding PCC from Alagbon.

For those not in Nigeria, I understand they can fill the Finger print form, scan and send it down to a friend who can help them process it at the station with Inspector Moshood grin. In filling the form, i.e. taking their finger prints, must they do it at a police station in their country of residence? or can they just do this at home?

thanks.

Huge congrats to you.

IELTS is becoming an overall joke afterall and this is obviously not peculiar to Nigeria alone. Most likely, they do this on purpose just to ensure people keep comng back to write the exam. I gave up on them few years ago when I realised they were only going to turn me into a cash machine . The minute Canada decides to adopt an additional English testing agency, the rocks is sure to be where they are headed.

Oopsy:
I got encouraged here, so I'm also back to encourage another yet again... On IELTS

1st attempt: LRSW - 7.5,8,8,7
2nd attempt: LRSW - 8.5,8,7,6.5

Requested EOR on Speaking and Writing and after 10 weeks, my results came:

LRSW - 8.5,8,8.5,8. CRS did triple long jump from 374 to 424!

I think its fair to respect the poster's opinion as this is his own view of the situation.

To be honest, if you are well travelled, you might not be exactly impressed when you get to Australia and this is how I felt when I got here but I guess its because I put Australia in the league of America but I have since reset that in my head. Having read online that Melbourne was one of the most livable cities in the world, you can imagine how high my expectations were when I visited, only for me to get there and see that the trains and stations could do with some very good cleaning! (a far cry from what obtains in Sydney) and I just generally felt like I was visiting the countryside because the shopping centres, city centre etc were not what I expected at all(again, this is my own opinion).

Regarding the crime thing, more incidents seem to be reported there than anywhere else so again, the poster is not wrong here.

Overall, I think its best to manage our expectations when coming to this country and maybe its also a good idea to actually explore different cities before eventually deciding where to live, and make our judgements based on specific personal factors that are important to us as individuals.

@adeyinkaseun please don't go home just yet, as bellong said, you can explore Perth and you should pay a visit to Sydney too. All the best!

AdeyinkaSeun:
This is just my honest opinion. You can decide to take it or leave it. I know there are people who love it the way it is but before you crucify me, remember I’m only voicing out my experience of living in Australia for the last 13 months.
Melbourne is nothing but a huge disappointment. Run down houses and streets everywhere. The culture of keeping a well

You can get jobs through seek, indeed, jora and recruitment agencies.

For jobs in finance you can apply to, it depends on the aspect of finance in which you have experience as most jobs will require you to have relevant experience except you are applying to a graduate role, so you are better off leveraging on your current experience.

Like someone suggested, you might want to try Canada as well, however, in trying Australia, as long as the courses you have studied for your Bachelors and Masters degrees cover the 9 major areas required for assessment and you fulfill the English language requirement, you can be sure of getting a positive assessment. You should check the list of occupations on the DIBP website, decide which of the accounting occupations you would be nominating, then you can apply for assessment with any of the assessing bodies.

Please, i need your advice.
I have been hearing about Australian PR. I am really confused on what to do in relocating.
Am an Accounting graduate with second class upper degree who started training in an international audit firm in lagos in 2010 as an Audit Associate, after three and half years went to further my studies in forensic accounting in United Kingdom where I gained a master degree and had a merit. After study joined back my firm and was an Audit Senior Associate till i left end of 2016.
Having in total close to 5 years experience in Financial Audit. Moved as an Accountant reporting to the Financial controller in a growing energy servicing firm from late 2016 till date. My wife is a graduate of law and called to bar with over two years experience in Law practice as a legal practitioner also with a masters degree in Management in United Kingdom. We presently have a kid and am 31 years old.
I have researched my eyes out and read everything there is to read. I still can't decide. I think I am even more confused. I need to start the process and also want to know my chances on which one gives us a better chance of getting the PR. For those that have done this before, what is your opinion and how long will the process take as am just about to start.

Thanks

Just curious to know what you found uncomfortable in your first apartment. It's not uncommon to move into a house only to realize you skipped some things during inspection. If you don't mind you may share.

The Sydney-Melbourne decision seems a lot like the Australia-Canada dilemma in a way. Luckily, I didn't have to dwell much on either. It was very unusual of me on both occasions. cheesy cheesy

Lastly, my Naija licence expired this month (Dec). .

So the landlord did not send me the famous 'document' till I moved in(I didn't even know what this document was), only for me to get it and have rules and regulations handed out to me like I was in boarding school, so i felt more like I was in a hostel and was not free at all.

For driver's license, I think its dependent on your date of arrival but I am not absolutely certain, others who have driven with their foreign licenses can help out here.

Hello,

Please i need some clarifications from you.
I want to do qualification assessment for my wife. I'm the principal applicant, but i need her assessment to gain more points. She has BSc in Accounting from Usman Danfodiyo University Sokoto, she's a recent graduate with no work experience. My questions are as follows:

1. Does CPA assess qualification alone, and how much do they charge for that?

2. She's a student of ICAN but not a member of any professional accounting body, does she stand any chance of getting a positive assessment?

3. Aside from her BSc transcripts, is there any other documents to be attached?

Thank you in advance for your prompt response @toslad @Hephzibah @40manlappy.

Thank you everyone for the congratulatory messages. Ire a kari ooo....

So i am back to tell my story after thanking God in church grin

Requested first gcms note one month after AOR where i saw on the notes that REVIEW REQUIRED based on statutory questions answered....this was where i realized that the canada visa refusal i stated for hubby was not his first and thus his file showed he had once applied before that
- I raised a CSE to state that i had forgotten about the first application
- I later raised another CSE to upload letters of non-indebtedness and to state corrections about letters uploaded in the wrong placeholder
- I raised another CSE explaining that I did not know I had to state all visa refusals even if they were from the same country. I then listed them out one after the other

I requested another gcms note a month later where i saw the note stating that i had mixed up my IELTS scores
- I quickly recalculated my CRS score using the correct mix and saw that I still had the same CRS score
- I raised a CSE stating the error, correcting it and resubmitted a copy of my IELTS result

File was transferred to LVO on Aug 15
Requested another gcms note in October only to find out my file was never touched since FTD
Emailed LVO on Nov 15 and was told my application was awaiting review

Emailed again on Nov 20 that my application was 6months (though less 1 day). Got response that it was in process
Emailed again on 22nd and CC'd Ottawa.
Emailed Ottawa on 23rd and checked my CIC account one hour later only to see i had moved to IP2 after 5months ( Skipped NA)
GOT PPR ONE HOUR LATER

In all, no single ADR....

Baba God did it!!!

Please can one stopover in USA before heading to Canada?

I just had to comment on this. This goes to show that sometimes, it's not in the perfection in our applications but pure grace and proactiveness. Thank God for the opportunity to order GCMS notes, imagine just sitting and waiting endlessly.

Big congratulations to you indeed. Your persistence has paid off!!!

There is no hard and fast rule to the reference letters required, you only have to ensure that the job duties indicated reflect what is expected of the job you are nominating, as defined by the assessing bodies.

I could'nt help but laugh at some of the comments I've read here. It made me remember a dp I saw where they indicated ladies be hiding their boo, only to spring up an IV one day, expecting to get money off you for asoebi, after which the hiding begins again, only to announce yet again that there's a baby, expecting that you will be generous enough to drop an envelope. Then, the cycle resumes again grin

But on a serious note, sometimes its not even the village factor that makes people keep their relocation plans to themselves. I remember getting the most demoralizing lecture from my friend when I informed her I was relocating. I heard of how I was running away instead of staying to fix the problem(I am not sure Messiah appears anywhere in my name) and how I was only interested in the freebies the foreign country had to offer and all sorts. This was from someone who had never even been to Cotonou! I felt so low after the conversation and this was me who was already anxious and nervous. Needless to say, I learnt to keep my mouth shut after that, as it was even out of courtesy I informed people not necessarily because I owed anyone a copy of my itinerary!

Hi everyone, I will be sharing my story whilst trying not to repeat points already shared by others.

PHCN frustrated me out of Nigeria earlier than I planned so I was quite scattered on the day I was leaving. I flew Emirates and the flight left as scheduled with me being one of the last to check in due to my 'overload syndrome'(I just found it extremely difficult fitting my entire existence into 2 suitcases!). For people like me that can pack for Africa, 23kg is very small so you are better off focusing on things you might not get here. For the ladies, it might be useful to bring black hair products and hair extensions (though they sell expression here but its so tiny and does not come out as nice as the Naija one). Hair cream and relaxers are important as there only two places I know in the whole of Sydney that sell black hair products and one might not have the luxury of time to go there always.

Stopover at Dubai was good as IOM arranged for someone to meet and usher me to the boarding gate for the connecting flight. I was very happy and impressed because I thought they had done me enough favour already by making the ticket available at half price grin

We also had another stopover in Thailand which I did not like, because the ticket read DXB-SYD. This stopover was however not long (just about an hour and a half) so I finally got to Sydney after about a day of travel. I found Sydney to be a lot like the UK in many areas so things did not feel very strange afterall.

I stayed with a friend for a few days and got my own accommodation a few days later. However, I had to move out of the house after just a month because I was not comfortable. Like others have said, it is very important to ask about all the conditions before moving into any house. Do not allow any landlord to fool you by saying they will send the documentation later(after you move in), it is most likely a trap because at this point, you would have paid and will most likely be bound to fulfill the minimum lease period.

I chose to live in Sydney and the major factor that informed my choice was the availability of jobs in my field. This, and other factors like ease of travel with the public transport system (as I did not intend to drive immediately) helped me decide. In fact, I had a spreadsheet when I was still in Nigeria where I was doing a comparison between Sydney and Melbourne based on the factors I considered important to me.

As I do not drive, I use public transport and spend about $60 per week on travel. The trains are more reliable than the buses so when renting, be sure to ensure that you get a place close to the train station if not driving. You really don't want to have a lot to do with the buses because they can really test your patience.

I shared my job search strategy in an earlier post on the other thread.

I will be back to share more of my experience as time goes on.

You are better off assessing with your Animal Science degree because if you assess as an accountant, only your post-qualification experience will be recognized. Considering your accounting Bsc is 2017, you will lose out on experience points. As long as you can get invited with the minimum points on your Animal Science degree, then, you are good to go.

Horticulturist:
I am a graduate of Animal Science - graduated 2010 but I have over 4years cognate experience in accounting (Big4 trained)

Due to the high points (85) required for accounting, can I assess my BSc in Animal Sciences only? and ignore the 4-year work experience?

Cuz my Bsc and experience do not match. someone should please help

I think your ACCA qualification should suffice as the Australian bachelor's equivalent. If you did the Oxford Brookes thing, even better. You have a choice of writing either IELTS or PTE Academic, after which you can go ahead and assess your qualifications and work experience.

Kindly help assess the below:

Lastly, please help me out, i think am lost on the process. Upon writing the above exam, do i just go ahead and apply for the EOI or there're other steps to complete?

Thanks you all.

You are correct on this cos I remember I came across the document when I was going to assess and only found OAU and UNILAG accounting degrees as being equivalent then(cant remember seeing UI, think they dont do accounting there). The thing is most accountants who apply for assessment are usually chartered so in my opinion, its the professional qualification that makes up for the BSc which eventually makes us assessed as equivalent of their own accounting degree. I remember I delayed my assessment for almost a year cos I wanted to get full membership of ACCA cos I was also scared of getting a negative assessment with only my BSc and ACCA associate qualification(maybe this was a bit overboard but I didn't want to take chances).

Overall, I will say if the person is chartered, he can go ahead and assess.

Hi everyone, I must appreciate the efforts of those who go out of their way to help here most especially Bellong. Congratulations to all those that have received their PR, Australia awaits you!!!!

I have been a silent reader here and this forum was also my reference when I was applying for PR. I want to share my experience in terms of job search for the benefit of those landing soon.

I cannot remember much of my timeline but I will try to summarize below

PTE Academic - April 2016
CPA assessment (Management Accountant) - June 2016
Positive Assessment - July 2016
EOI (70 points) - July 2016
ITA - September 2016
Application lodged - October 2016
Visa Grant - January 2017
Landed - March 2017

I was applying for jobs between March and May and finally got a job in June to the glory of God. While I was applying, I noticed that I never got an interview invite from all the jobs I applied to on Linkedin (for whatever reason), I guess this has to do with the local experience thing. Besides, most jobs on Linkedin are for permanent positions and most employers I think, are skeptical about employing a new migrant for a permanent position. So, my strategy changed to the use of recruitment agencies and in my opinion, this is the best bet for new migrants. I say this because they have immediate information about open positions and they also have lots of contract roles which is what a lot of new migrants start off with. I contacted about 4 agencies and that was how I started getting interview invitations and finally got a job.

Another strategy I adopted was to apply for the exact position I held while in Nigeria, since this matched the position being advertised, I guess it was easy for the recruiter to sell my profile to the client. All the glory belongs to God.

To all the accountants looking to assess but put off by the current high scores required, please don't be discouraged. Explore all options - include partner points if this will give the needed boost and God will indeed crown your efforts. I got this PR after being denied visas multiple times by other countries, so much so that I could not believe it when I actually got the grant so let's keep trying, God will show up when we least expect IJN.

Have a lovely day everyone
