Culture / Re: Why Do Igbos Especially The Anambrans Marry From Their Tribe? by IBRAHIMLAMOUR: 3:27pm On Feb 22, 2015
bigfrancis21:

Igbo bashing has become quite a common thing in Nigeria such that it has become normal to bash Igbo on every single thing, even on things that are meaningless.

You created this thread to ask why Igbo prefer to marry from their tribe. Are you really serious? This is a question you opened this thread for looking for 'answers'? Would you have opened this very thread in the first place had a Yoruba or Hausa guy been the one who preferred to marry from their tribe? Yes or No? Why would a Yoruba parent reject a non-yoruba suitor, and that will not be an issue. In fact, such action is justified. A Hausa parent will do the same and no dust will be raised about it. But when an Igbo parent does the same, then its a big deal. It is a serious issue that calls for serious attention and criticism, then you begin to get tags like ''Igbos are 'tribalistic'', 'they are 'selfish'', it is an 'Igbo problem' e.t.c. Minor issues that aren't issues when done by other tribes become a serious issue when Igbo is involved.

I look around me, majority Ibibios marry within the Ibibio tribe, majority Hausas marry within Hausa, Yoruba within Yoruba, why should the Igbo marrying within themselves even be a question in the first place? Despite the level of inter marriage between whites and blacks here in the US, majority whites marry within whites, chinese within chinese, blacks within blacks, and you're going to sit there and tell me that it is a problem when Igbos prefer to marry Igbos?? Like seriously??

I get your point about love being the most important factor between 2 people from different tribes and there are marriages between Igbo men and non-Igbo women however majority Igbos don't need to look outside for love when they can find it within themselves. The same love you mentioned as important, Igbo men get it from within the tribe. Why look outside? What about culture preservation and values? Why should Igbo preferring to marry from within even be an issue in the first place when other tribes are doing the same? Is the creation of this thread even justified in the first place?

Tomorrow you're going to open another thread asking 'Why do Igbo people speak Igbo?' Like seriously??
. Its like this guy is high on cheap drugs. If u dnt get the question straight. WHY IS IGBO FROM ANAMBRA DNT LIKE MARRYING other igbos

Boko Haram insurgents reportedly caught the Nigerian soldiers and their commanders off-guard upon invading the headquarters of the 174 Battalion, Abadan LGA, Borno State, on November 5.

According to the exclusive information provided by Premium Times, hundreds of insurgents stormed the headquarters located close to the country’s border with Niger and opened sporadic fire.

Witnesses disclosed that many of the terrorists had Rocket Propelled Grenades (a shoulder-launched anti-tank weapon) and machine guns mounted on Hilux vans, while the others were armed with AK-47 rifles.

It was learnt that at the beginning of the incident, the troops appeared to be prevailing over the insurgents, however the soldiers’ spirit was crashed as more terrorists advanced on the camp from several directions. Thus, the troops, that turned out to be armed and prepared worse for the fight, started immediate capitulation.

Recalling the fight, some soldiers of the battalion blamed the failure on arms and the morale of the fighting force.

The 174 Battalion had been moved from Lagos to the base located close to Niger as part of the counter-terrorism operation. The battalion counted 300 soldiers. According to the insider sources, before long soldiers started abandoning the battle in droves, throwing away their uniforms and yielding their arms to the terrorists.

Moreover, many fled to the neigbouring country, where some of them were hospitalized.

Speaking about the last Wednesday’s attack, the sources said that an unknown number of soldiers were killed, injured and went missing.

Politics / Disappointing Week To Be An Arsenal Fan by IBRAHIMLAMOUR: 4:19pm On Nov 10, 2014
It's not been a great week to be an Arsenal fan. First the Gunners somehow threw away a 3-0 lead over Anderlecht to barely hang on for a shock draw at home earlier this week in the Champions League.

Against Swansea City, new signing Alexis showed his class once again to put his team 1-0 up, only to see his efforts in vain as the hosts fought back to snatch victory. Can it get worse for Arsenal?

On it there is a time when a person does not ask Allah for anything but he give it to him. So long as he does not ask for anything haraam. 5. And on it the hour will begin. Politics / Redeemed Church Pastor Jailed For N5million Fraud by IBRAHIMLAMOUR: 2:51am On Oct 22, 2014
A Redeemed Christian Church of God pastor has been accused of obtaining N5.1m under false pretence.
The pastor, who was arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court, sitting in Igbosere, Lagos, heads ‘Chapel of Triumph Parish, Oworoshoki, Lagos.

Politics / “iyanya Didn’t Dump Me, I Dumped Him” Yvonne Nelson by IBRAHIMLAMOUR: 4:36pm On Oct 19, 2014
When we all thought the Yvonne Nelson-Iyana love saga was all over, social media is bringing everything back to life again.

After granting two major interviews on her controversial love life with the ‘Your Waist’ crooner late 2013 – with BellaNaija & The Juice – Yvonne Nelson says perhaps something wrong was gotten
from both sittings… on the issue of who dumped who?

In a new interview with AllAfrica.com, the Ghanaian super woman may have insinuated that both interviews, including a meeting with Beat99.9 FM’s Toolz, she was not interpreted perfectly.

“I granted interviews on this whole thing: Bella Naija and Toolz (The Juice). I don’t want to repeat myself,”

she told the site.

“My interviewers took whatever they wanted to take away from the interviews i granted them.” she ended.

Not wanting to dive deep into the past, she rested her case but according to rumours, Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh was the root of the break up.

Nelson previously told Toolz, “I hate a situation when you bring a third person into any relationship that I’m involved in.”
Meaning, ‘when this happened, Nelson threw in the towel’?
Was she the one who actually left Iyana’s flexible waist to focus more on her film career? After all that has paid off!

The Yvonne Nelson Production is now boasting of three major movie successes: House Of Gold and Single And Married, and recently the record- breaking, Single, Married and Complicated.

Now, what good was Iyanya to her again? http:///10LdAG

Politics / Pastor Chris’ Daughter Rejects Him, Supports Mums On Divorce by IBRAHIMLAMOUR: 9:52pm On Oct 18, 2014
A decision is set to be announced on the divorce suit filed by Anita Oyakhilome against her husband Rev. Chris Oyakhilome, the President of Christ Embassy church. Funny enough, the couple’s first daughter Sharon Oyakhilome has decided to take sides, supporting her mum against her father, Pastor Chris. She took to Twitter to post a cryptic message which seemingly appears to support her mother’s divorce decision. Her tweets appear to be similar to the case Rev. Anita Oyakhilome cited in the divorce papers where she stated that her husband had been away for the most part of their marriage.

In Defence of Anita Oyakhilome the FRustrated Wife:

“Anita Oyakhilome, the frustrated wife of Nigeria’s most flamboyant preacher, Chris Oyakhilome has obviously passed through 15 years of adulterous endurance and what she needs is our prayers and protective respect and defense of her choices to forget all the anti-rhapsody of heartbreak she endured all these years.

Fifteen (15) years of being abandoned by a preacher husband is not an easy way of lifefor a preacher’s wife. Fifteen (15) years of hearing that some mini skirted daughters of Jezebel have taken over your possession is not a joke. Fifteen years of a husband not staying with the wife for up to a week on a stretch, while spending time with some double breasted figure eight(ed) daughters of eve is not an easy thing to swallow. 15 years of being used as a showcase to make church members believe in Rhapsodies of Blissful Union, while dying in silence,is not a palatable experience for any woman.

Fifteen years of being called Mama, Mummy, and other glorified names of Senior Pastor’swife while some domestic harems sneer at the same Mummy behind is not a sweet experience. For goodness sake, this woman never probably had a good kiss in fifteen years and yet she is being accused of carnality for crying out loud. She was continually being led into temptation of seeking for s*xual satisfaction from outside for fifteen years and she managed to escape the traps of sin.

Fifteen years when their two lovely daughters would wake up and ask their mother why Dad had not cared to visit, and she would have to release a lie to stave off the frequent probing questions. Above all, fifteen years when Anita had to fake that all is well with their marriage, while she is actually dying emotionally. Every person she complained to among the pastoral cadre sided with the man, and she was left alone to bear her cross.

I warned some pastor friends with Christ Embassy early 2013 that they had better settle this marriage rift between Oga and his wife before it destroys the church. The same pastors have called me to express regret that a national embarrassment has ensued.

This woman has been called Jezebel by some pastors and members of the church. Some claimed she was disrespectful while others claimed she was always bitter of recent. They have tried to castigate her before members of the church who came in private to ask for the way out. She was described as unreasonable and insubordinate.

Her husband, according to news reports has even followed to cast her in bad light. According to Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, “Bitterness is prolonged and accumulate danger. My wife is always angry and bitter,” Going further he told his members to “Be careful of the friends you keep. My wife keeps friends who bring out the worst in her and help her see the worst in people, instead of keeping friends that will help her vision, especially as the wife of a global pastor like me.”

Please, which preacher woman who has been abandoned for fifteen years will not be bitter and angry? Was Anita expected to clap and dance while some hot legs are parading around the White House?

This pastor’s wife was also disclaimed by her husband who told his congregants in reaction to the divorce saga that Anita is not necessarily a Woman of God.According to Pastor Oyakhilome “Don’t act like those people. If you are married to a man of God, it doesn’t make you automatically mature. You can make mistakes; you can do something that is wrong. But some people expect the wife of a minister to definitely be at the level of that minister and so they may be looked upon and the expectation may be like that, but it’s a positional thing”.He clarified his theory by saying that “If a man of God is married, it doesn’t automatically mean that the wife of a man of God is therefore a woman of God.

“That’s not the way it is in the Bible.” Pastor Chris also added that “That’s why you don’t really find the wives of men of God mentioned in the Bible. How many of them? Who was Peter’s wife, did you ever know her name? You never find that out. Who was John’s wife? Did you ever read the name? What about all theother Apostles? How many of their names are written in the Bible. You never find their names.”

Anita Oyakhilome actually proved that she has fear of God in the manner she worded her divorce plea. She opted to use the word “inappropriate relationship with female staff members” instead of out rightly accusing her husband of adultery.According to the statement, “the wife has discussed with the husband his appropriate relationship with some of his female staff members. She has explained that this has given her cause for concern. The husband has minimised her worries and taken no step to alleviate her grievances.”

Anita Oyakhilome could have said that her husband abandoned her and ran into the arms of sister A or B, or gospel singer C or D and left her roasting and murmuring in the house. Anita could have said that her husband is a hypocrite who says a thing and means another, but she veiled her grievances of years of abandonment by saying in the divorce file that “The wife feels that she has been used to portray and enhance the husband’s image as a family man when the reality is that there is no existing relationship between them. She feels that she has been present for official functions simply for his convenience.

On occasions she has been copied into his travel itinerary which has been given to him by his staff on a need to know basis”. “The wife has tried to discuss her concernswith the husband. He claims that she is carnal and he is insensitive to her feelings and her needs.”

Thus Anita had acted with much restraint in order to preserve the integrity of Christ Embassy and the work of evangelism, and all she got for her discretion was hate messages all many sections of church members who wanted her to sacrifice her marriage to keep them in a rhapsody of deceit.

This woman, according to the testimony of many British residents who attend their church, is one person who is always willing to give gifts to the needy. She is ever ready to counsel people and does not breed class. She is a patient listener who laboriously introduced many things in the church for which the glory goes to her husband. Londoners believe that she is not that demon theywant to portray her as. Those who know her closely have attested to an affectionate good naturedness and stickler for details.

Whatsoeverthing some misguided church members want to think, Anita had lived a lie formany years. Anita was said to have became born again at believers Loveworldcampus fellowship at Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, while Chris was thepastor. She had probably paid her dues as a Christian and knows what it is todeceive the congregation. She cannot deceive herself and the church anymorethus she opted for divorce. Divorce, according to scripture is unbiblical, but between deceiving a congregation that already knows the truth but pretends otherwise and staying in unfulfilled marriage, which is better. It is a matter between her and her conscience.

Last year, a Nigerian personality blogger by name Ese Walter was lured by her Senior Pastor in Abuja into a cozy hotel bed space in London and after two weeks of adultery, the man cleaned up, returned to Nigeria and told his congregation to shout some Hallelujah. The sin partner was arrested by the Holy Spirit and she sought a meeting with the COZA Chief to resolve the burden of guilt. She was continually shunned and described as agent of satan even by other senior pastors in the church until she turned the internet into the confessional. Ese Walter freed her conscience and probably escaped eternal damnation but the entire Christendom took the brunt of the exposure.

Anita has chosen to free herself from a life of deceit and lies. The truth had set her free. However, I still counsel her that if the misbehaving preacher husband demonstrates a verifiable change of heart, she should consider him back and so that somebody can shout some more Hallelujah. Fifteen years of adulterous endurance in the midst of charismatic rhapsody is not easy and Anita Oyakhilome sure needs all the defense and understanding she can get- Let somebody shout a better Hallelujah!”

Politics / Court To Rule On Nyako’s Impeachment November by IBRAHIMLAMOUR: 10:40pm On Oct 17, 2014
A Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday fixed Nov. 7 to rule on a fundamental rights enforcement suit seeking the reinstatement of impeached Governor of Adamawa State, Malam Murtala Nyako.

Justice Okon Abang reserved his ruling after hearing arguments by counsel of parties in the suit.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a Lagos-based lawyer, Mr Olukoya Ogungbeje, had filed the suit in August challenging the legality of Nyako’s impeachment on July, 15.

Ogungbeje had argued that Nyako’s impeachment was a clear derogation from the due process of law and prayed the court for an order reinstating him as a governor.

Respondents in the suit are former Acting Governor of Adamawa State, Mr Umaru Fintiri, Adamawa State House of Assembly and the Acting Chief Judge of the State, Justice Ambrose Mammadi.

Others are Justice Buba Kajama, (Chairman of the seven-member panel that investigated allegations of gross misconduct against Nyako), Independent National Electoral Commission and the Inspector General of Police.

At the resumed hearing of the suit, the defence counsel, Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), said that the third respondent (Acting Chief Judge of Adamawa) was not served the court processes.

He said that it would only be fair for the said respondent to be given an opportunity to put in his defence.

Olanipekun also faulted the service of processes on Fintiri and the Adamawa State House of Assembly through the Liaison office in Lagos.

He argued that the affidavit of service reflected the name of one Mr Kasumu Bauchi, who was unknown at the Adamawa Liaison office in Lagos.

The defence counsel also submitted that the suit to challenge the impeachment of a governor could only be filed in the state where it was done and therefore the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the case.

He said that in view of this and the fact that Nyako had also instituted action to challenge his impeachment at an Adamawa State High Court in Yola, the suit amounted to an abuse of court process.

Responding, Ogungbeje said it was clear that the applications filed by Olanipekun were clearly intended to scuttle the judgment of the court which was previously fixed for Sept. 30.

He urged Justice Abang to discountenance the arguments of defence counsel and write his name in gold by doing substantial justice in the suit by ordering the reinstatement of Nyako.
He submitted that the judgment of the Federal High Court in Abuja which held that Nyako’s deputy, Mr James Ngilari, did not resign in the eyes of the law, had cleared the way for Justice Abang to do justice in the case.

After listening to the submissions of counsel, Justice Abang said he would first rule on the application to suspend proceedings filed by Olanipekun.

The judge held that if the applications are dismissed, the reserved judgment would be delivered, but where it succeeds, the necessary consequential orders would be made.

He consequently adjourned the suit to Nov 7 for ruling.

NAN reports that in the suit, Ogungbeje had argued that Nyako’s impeachment was a clear departure from the due process of law, and prayed the court for an order reinstating him.

He argued that the failure of the respondents to serve the impeachment notice personally on Nyako was a breach of the impeached governor’s right to fair hearing and fair trial.

Specifically, Ogungbeje is seeking a declaration that the inauguration of the seven-member panel by the state Chief Judge after an order stopping the Adamawa State House of Assembly from constituting the panel was biased.

The lawyer, therefore, wants the court to declare that the constitution and inauguration of the panel against a subsisting order of court, was contemptuous, and a flagrant violation of the constitution.

The suit is also urging the court to nullify Nyako’s impeachment of July 15. (NAN).....................................http://leadership.ng/news/387382/court-rule-nyakos-impeachment-november-7
Politics / Gov Rotimi Amaechi Says Nollywood Practitioners Are Product Of Circumstances by IBRAHIMLAMOUR: 7:49pm On Oct 17, 2014
This would have been funny if it wasn’t pathetic. According to a few Nollywood practitioners who were present at the Best of Nollywood Awards, which held
last night in Port Harcourt, Rivers state, the governor of the state Rotimi Amaechi practically insulted Nollywood practitioners to their faces.

According to a source who reached out to LIB, during his speech at the award after he gave veteran actress Liz Benson a Lifetime Achievement Award, Governor
Rotimi said that people in Nollywood are products of circumstances/necessity. He said that the only reason they are in Nollywood is because they couldn’t find
other jobs, that if they had, they won’t be actors.

Rotimi said these actors studied sciences, law, medicine etc but because they couldn’t find jobs, they embraced Nollywood.

Present when he said this were Nollywood veterans including Liz Benson, Kenneth Okonkwo, Shola Sobowale, Desmond Elliot, Moses Inwang, Dickson
Iroegbu, Bob-manuel Udokwu, Patience Ozokwor, Elvis Chuks, AY, Iyabo Ojo, Emem Isong and many others.

Governor Rotimi also put two veteran actresses on blast. He told the crowd that he gives Joke Silva and Kate Henshaw bags of money whenever they come to Rivers state. And then claimed he was the one who encouraged Kate Henshaw to go into politics.

Like that wasn’t enough, Governor Amaechi then said he went into politics for money.

Some of the Nollywood practitioners are angry about what the governor said and have asked the AGN to make sure it doesn’t happen again. LINK..........http:///10JH2l

Omolafe Aderiye, by unknown gunmen, imposed a 7pm and 7am curfew in the state
till further notice.
The governor, whose campaign office and three vehicles in the state secretariat of
the All Progressives Congress were burnt, urge the citizenry to be vigilant and
provide the security agencies with details of suspicious activities that can undermine
the peace in our state.
But Fayose, while featuring on a live radio and television interview monitored on the
Nigerian Television Authority in Ado-Ekiti lifted the curfew.
He said residents should ignore the subsisting curfew and go about their normal duty
because it had brought untold hardship to the people.
He said, “It is unfortunate that people have been put on under needless pressure and
I have discussed with police and the army on the need to let people move around
freely.”
He promised to personally seek the release of anyone arrested by law enforcement
agencies.
Fayose likened the alleged last minute efforts by the All Progressives Congress and
the Ekiti-11 to stop his October 16 inauguration to the last kick of a dying horse..................LINK..................http://abusidiqu.com/yet-to-assume-office-ekiti-gov-elect-ayo-fayose-lifts-curfew-imposed-by-gov-fayemi/
Politics / 2,000 Lives Lost To Terrorists In 180 Days -FG by IBRAHIMLAMOUR: 10:00pm On Oct 14, 2014
The Federal Government has said about 2,000 lives, including security personnel and
foreigners, had been lost to terrorists activities in the last 180 days.
The government said it was concerned that such number of persons had died, but
added that the operations to “degrade the terrorists command structure to weaken
their effectiveness’’ had recorded success.
The National Coordinator, National Information Centre, Mr. Mike Omeri, who stated
this while giving an update on government’s efforts to rescue the 219 Chibok
schoolgirls on Tuesday in Abuja, explained that the FG would not disclose the
operational strategies for the rescue of the abducted girls in spite of agitation by
some individuals and groups in the country.
He claimed that some successes had been recorded in the effort as well as in the
ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.
Omeri said though government was willing to provide credible information on the
anti-terror campaign, “operational reality does not permit unbridled disclosure of
operational plans and strategies…as some agitators have continued to advocate.”
According him, other plans that cannot be disclosed include the day-by-day account
of troops’ movement, engagement and deployment of hardware.
The NIC Coordinator listed the efforts to combat terrorists to include the dispatch
of troops to carry out land and aerial surveillance and occasional bombardment of
insurgents locations and enlistment of foreigner partners.
Others, he said, were regional collaboration, activities of activist groups such as the
BringBackOurGirls and recent diplomatic shuttle by President Goodluck Jonathan to
some neighbouring countries and outside the continent.
Omeri appealed to Nigerians to support government’s effort to end terrorism in the
country, and rescue the girls, rather than distracting the government............... LINK..................http://www.punchng.com/news/2000-lives-lost-to-terrorists-in-180-days-fg/
Politics / PDP Has Mesed Up Nigeria -buhari by IBRAHIMLAMOUR: 9:52pm On Oct 14, 2014
A former Head of State and All Progressives Congress presidential aspirant, Maj.
Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), said on Tuesday that the Peoples Democratic Party
had messed up the country.
He identified the inability of managing the nation’s resources as one of the problems
affecting Nigeria, adding that he was coming to bring about positive and progressive
change.
Buhari spoke in Port Harcourt when he paid a courtesy visit to the Rivers State
Governor, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, ahead of his declaration for the presidency in Abuja
today (Wednesday).
The former head of state explained that he was disturbed by the frosty relationship
between Rivers and the centre, even as he hailed the courage of the state governor.
He said, “The PDP has messed itself up, it has messed the country up. Nigerians know
we have a good opportunity to change the situation. What happened in Ekiti and Osun
is a clear indication. It is either we totally mobilise and get the election results and
form the government or we go under for good.
“I have been very close to Rivers State and I have been very disturbed by the
relationship between Rivers State and the centre. I admire the courage of the
governor here, the way he has taken it and maintained control of the state.
“With the infrastructure I have seen on the ground, Amaechi has carved his name in
gold in the history of the state. We have a problem and the problem is fundamental.
It is the question of securing and managing the resources of Nigeria.
“I appeal to the states and National Assemblies to stabilise the system so that
whoever wins next year’s election will not run the country with impunity. The beauty
of democracy is the balance of power,” Buhari said.
Amaechi described Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo as detribalised
Nigerians.
Amaechi faulted insinuations in some quarters that Buhari was a religious
fundamentalist, maintaining that the former head of state was a true nationalist........................ LINK......... http://www.punchng.com/news/pdp-has-mesed-up-nigeria-buhari/

Politics / Four Chibok Girls Have Escaped From Boko Haram by IBRAHIMLAMOUR: 3:49pm On Oct 14, 2014
According to TheTimesUK, the four, all aged between 16 and 18, had been told that if they criticised Boko Haram, their families would be killed. They were helped to escape by a teenage boy, also a
prisoner, who managed to get them out of the camp, according to Stephen Davis, a British-Australian negotiator who had tried to bargain with the extremist Islamic group for the schoolgirls’ freedom.
The girls, guided by the setting sun, walked west for three weeks, finally arriving in a Nigerian village, starving and traumatised.
“They were amazing — to first escape and then walk for weeks,” Davis told The Times of London. “They are the only ones that have escaped from a Boko Haram camp.”
Davis said the girls had been told that if they fled Boko Haram, their families would be killed.

However, TheNation reports that Director of Publicity Kibaku Area Development Association Dr. Manasseh Allen, of the Chibok Community in Abuja, said last night, after making calls, that he could not confirm the escape of the girls............................ http:///10E1BT

Politics / Soldiers Reportedly Shoot Themselves To Avoid Deployment To Boko Haram Areas by IBRAHIMLAMOUR: 8:09am On Oct 13, 2014
Soldiers reportedly shoot themselves to avoid deployment to Boko haram areas
Found this interesting and recent report on the Nigerian Tribune..about Nigerian soldiers reportedly shooting themselves on the leg, to avoid deployment to the battle field..

As the battle to rout out Boko Haram terrorists from communities seized in Adamawa State continues, military source have disclosed that some soldiers and officers are inventing pranks to avoid deployment to the battlefield.
At the weekend, seven soldiers allegedly opened fire on different parts of their bodies and later claimed that Boko Haram terrorists shot them, but when medical examination was carried out on them, it was discovered that the shots were self-inflicted.
The army high command has also discovered that information about its strategies and operational road map in the North East were being passed on to Boko Haram terrorists by orderlies and close aides of commanders on the field.(continue)..

It was gathered that some of the perpetrators of the crime had been arrested, while a board of inquiry had been set up to carry out further investigation, after which a court martial to try them would be set up.
The source revealed that many of the soldiers had devised means, so as not to be set for battlefield, while others faked strange ailments.
It was reliably gathered that the alleged attack on seven soldiers at the weekend were carefully masterminded by the troops, so as to look as if the Boko Haram, terrorists actually attacked them.
The source disclosed that when the soldiers were brought to the hospital in Adamawa, the injuries were fresh, while the bullets just pierced through the flesh to the other side, with no bone affected. http://9javibes.com/news/soldiers-reportedly-shoot-avoid-deployment-boko-haram-areas/

Politics / Obasanjo Is The Brain Behind Boko Haram.... Falana by IBRAHIMLAMOUR: 6:58pm On Oct 12, 2014
REVEALED: Obasanjo Is The Brain Behind Boko Haram –Femi Falana. Fiery human rights lawyer and activist, Mr Femi Falana, SAN, is not only a consummate social justice crusader, but a throbbing liberator of knotty discourses. He opens a can of worms on the real genesis of the Boko Haram insurgency which the nation is currently grappling with, placing it squarely on the laps of former president Olusegun Obasanjo and those governors who introduced sharia laws in their states and allowed it to spin out of control.

He says Obasanjo’s blunt refusal to halt the strict code of Islamic laws which was ab-initio political, through an overriding constitutional interpretation at the Supreme Court to halt its spread, emboldened nascent groups and individuals in the affected states to seek for a profound purification of the application of the laws, ultimately, washing up’ with Boko Haram.

He opens up more on the military which is faced with the responsibility of taming the Frankenstein monster, and is in the process of courting controversies on corruption, mutiny, and court martials.

He says the war has so far defied all known prognosis by producing no heroes on both sides.

Falana takes on the brouhaha in Ekiti State with the engaging passion of a son of the soil, declaring emphatically that the state has slipped back to ‘Egypt’. “ After the Ekiti State governorship election on June 20 this year, a newspaper interviewed me, and I did say that by the choice of Ekiti people, they have gone back to Egypt”, he intones.

He roves round to other burning national issues including the controversial $9.3 million arms deal cache in South Africa, why president Jonathan shuns investigation into varnishing defense budgets, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, among others. Excerpts:

Let me begin with your state, Ekiti. For the first time in Nigeria’s history, the judiciary came under physical attack. There are also threats of violence, and an assassination. Why is the state boiling at this time, just on the verge of a transition to another government?

After the Ekiti State governorship election on June 20 this year, a newspaper interviewed me, and I did say that by the choice of Ekiti people, they have gone back to Egypt. What has happened in the last few days has unfortunately confirmed that the Ekiti people are fully back in the wilderness. They are in the wilderness of shame and embarrassments. Ekiti is being dragged in the mud because of the culture of impunity in our country. This was complicated this time around by the connivance of the police. On Monday last week, (August 22) a gang of thugs invaded theHigh Court premises in Ado-Ekiti; and that is where you have the Court of Appeal, the Federal High Court, as well as a number of magistrate courts. The thugs disrupted the proceedings of the court, and chased out the judge presiding over a case which had to do with the competence of the candidate of the PDP, Mr Ayo Fayose. The court had just given a ruling. Because the counsel to Mr Ayo Fayose challenged the jurisdiction of the court, the court ruled that it had jurisdiction and stood down the matter for two hours for continuation. From the information at my disposal, that was when somebody signaled to the thugs, to invade the court. And they did, by force of arms. At the end of the eviction, the judge was chased out of the court, lawyers were assaulted, and that particular judge had to be ferried out of the court by the police.

What do you think is the appropriate sanction for this kind of misdemeanor?

Because nobody was sanctioned, or brought to book, on Thursday, of the same week, the thugs regrouped, invaded the same court premises; a judge who was in his chambers, who had dressed up to sit just discovered that there were some thugs just beside his court. And he came out and recognized the Governor-elect, Mr Ayo Fayose, and pleaded with him to check his supporters, because according to the judge, they were within the precincts of a court. For that single request, the thugs pounced on the judge, beat him up, and tore his gown.

So, what is the appropriate sanction? Has there been any investigation yet? And what should be done to the culprits, because this is the first time a thing like this is happening in Africa?

Before we go to the culprits ,let us examine the issue, because you have just said now that for the first time in Nigeria, a thing like this is happening. Apart from Uganda, under Idi Amin, this is the first time in Africa, that a judge will be chased out of a court, that a judge will be beaten up in the court premises, that judges will have their records torn, and that the courts will be closed down because of the threat of violence; which is unleashed by thugs. What is required to be done is for the criminal justice system to identify each of the thugs who operated in daylight and ensure that the full wrath of the law is brought on them, otherwise it will be the beginning of anarchy.

Soldiers have been drafted to the state to keep the peace. Do you think that is enough remedy?

I am totally opposed to the militarization of the Civil Society. It is not the business of soldiers to maintain law and order in any country. Soldiers have a duty under the constitution to protect the territorial integrity of the country. Right now, soldiers are operating in over 30 states in the country; and that is why the Armed Forces are overstretched. What is required, and I did suggest to the Acting Inspector General of police, Mr Suleiman Abba, that having regard to the fact that the Ekiti State  Police Command is compromised, that there will be need for new people brought in entirely with firm instructions to deal decisively with whoever breaks the law, or threatens to break the law. Soldiers cannot replace the police in the civil society. All the policemen who are complicit in the mayhem that Ekiti State has witnessed in the last one week should be sanctioned.

How about the assassination of one of the supporters of Fayose on the day of the mayhem?

Unfortunately, the former chairman of the NURTW was killed in the dead of the night on Thursday, and unfortunately that led to arson and rioting that took place that day. Again, a city that is well policed, and Ado-Ekiti is not a large city by any standards, should have prevented such unfortunate occurrence because there was already tension in the state with what happened on Monday and Thursday in the court premises. One would have expected the police to be up and doing to prevent such a tragic situation as witnessed in the assassination of the former chairman of NURTW.

Do you see or read any political motive in the assassination?

I am a lawyer. I deal with evidence. I don’t engage in speculation. I am not in a position to determine or guess what would have happened. The following morning, a band of 50 armed young men went to town in the presence of the police. They burnt houses and destroyed order in the presence of the police. Nobody was arrested.

But we learnt that some arrests were made, and about six people have been taken to court?

Which court? When the courts have been closed down? So they couldn’t have been in court. They closed down following the first attack on Monday. I understand that some arrests were made. But the police arranged that they were taken to court and released.

Given the spiraling violence in the state now, and the state of uncertainty it has imposed, what do you suggest should be done? Should there be a state of emergency declared in the state, or should the handover to Fayose be aborted?

I am opposed to a declaration of a state of emergency in any part of the country, when there is no basis for it.

But there is violence in the state?

No. It is not every time there is violence that you declare a state of emergency. It is when the enforcement agencies in a country are unable to contain violence that you can talk of declaring a state of emergency, so that extraordinary measures can be adopted by the President. But as far as the police in Ekiti are concerned, they supported violence unleashed on the state by criminals. Once you isolate, identify them and their police collaborators and bring them to book, law and order will be restored in the state. What I am saying is that no matter whose ox is gored this time around, the law must take its course. That state has witnessed an orgy of violence because of the complicity of the state.

Should the handover be suspended? The governor-elect alleged a judicial ambush.

With profound respect to Mr Ayo Fayose, that statement is an admission of his involvement in the violence. The burden is on him more than anybody to ensure that law and order is restored in Ekiti State, otherwise he won’t be sworn in. The duty is on him.

Who will stop him?

Between 2003 and 2006, while he was in power, many indigenes were in exile. They couldn’t go home. The last straw that broke the camel’s back, which led to his impeachment was the killing of Dr Ayo Daramola, a world bank expert. So, when he was re-elected, I did predict that Ekiti State will witness more violence than before. And this is what we are seeing, which is very unfortunate. I know Governor Fayemi very well. I know the one that is of violent disposition. Fayemi has ruled that state for four years now. He has never been associated with violence. The contrary is the case with Ayo Fayose. Since he is the one who is interested in acquiring power, he has a duty to obey the law, and not resort to violence. As is done in all civilized societies, a suit was instituted before the election. The case could not be heard before the election. But being a pre-election matter, you continue after the election. Even if you lose at the High Court, the Court of Appeal is there, next door to the High Court in Ado-Ekiti. The Supreme Court is there, and that will take the next two to three years, having regards to the way the judicial system is manipulated by winners of election. What is the whole thing about ambushing anybody? How can the court ambush you when you have your lawyer, when you are given the opportunity to file your processes? Apart from the pre-election matter, there is also the election petition case before the Elections Petition Tribunal. To say that you cannot be taken to court, is to invite anarchy by saying let us go to the streets and fight it out. That is alien to the democratic culture. A stone throw from Ekiti State, Osun State, the PDP and its candidate Otunba Iyiola Omisore have gone to the tribunal. They dragged Aregbesola to the tribunal. So, why should heavens collapse in Ekiti because some aggrieved people have gone to court? I don’t understand what Ayo Fayose would gain to besmear Nigeria, when he has an opportunity to go to court.

But going by the constitution, should the swearing-in be suspended?

I am not for suspension of the swearing-in. I am demanding that all those who have unleashed violence on that state should be brought to book. The system does not warrant any intervention outside the provisions of the constitution. What I am demanding is that all those who are part of this nonsense, who desecrated the temple of justice be identified and brought to book, whoever they are. I want law and order to be restored.

Nigeria has been grappling with a lot of violence at the national level especially in the North. It has taken a new vigor in the last few months. Are you satisfied with the way the government is prosecuting the war against terror?

Nobody is satisfied with the way and manner the war on terror is being prosecuted. In the first place, the culture of impunity that I alluded to earlier, is also likely to blame for the wave of violence being witnessed across the country – armed robbery, kidnapping, terrorism and other violent crimes. Under the Olusegun Obasanjo administration, the then governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Ahmed Yerima proclaimed Sharia as state religion, contrary to section 10 of the constitution. Some of us demanded that he be stopped by the Federal Government by approaching the Supreme Court. That was ignored. Other governors, for purposes of election equally proclaimed Sharia in most parts of the North. Obasanjo later admitted, it was political Sharia, not religious one. But it has caused many political crises for the country – religio-political crises for the country, innocent people, ignorant people, young men and women, who thought that those governors genuinely wanted Sharia states, were hoodwinked. They even set up extra legal, extra judicial outfits to enforce Sharia. It was in the process that the Boko Haram phenomenon came up. If you go deeper, the actual name of the Boko Haram sect was a group that was out for the purification of Islam, which has been corrupted by these governors. In Borno State, ex-governor Ali Modu Sheriff recruited these guys to help him win the 2003 governorship election. He won, and appointed one of them, as commissioner for religious affairs to prosecute Sharia. Of course, the guy was asked to resign by the Boko Haram sect from the government. This is the genesis of the Boko Haram crisis. President Goodluck Jonathan set up a panel of inquiry in 2011. The panel came out with profound recommendations, including the identification and trial of the sponsors and founders of the Boko Haram sect. The report was issued in August 2012. Since then, the recommendations have not been implemented. We now have a dangerous situation in our hands whereby the state is tailing the Boko Haram sect, which obviously is more armed with more sophisticated weapons and modern gadgets of warfare. The Nigerian state is simply sending soldiers to commit suicide. The boys who are protesting, are now on trial. Some have been convicted of mutiny.

Politics / Conspiracy Of Silence Over Southern Kaduna Killings by IBRAHIMLAMOUR: 11:04am On Oct 12, 2014
Conspiracy of Silence over Southern Kaduna Killings

Kaduna State in Northern Nigeria is such a complex and diverse state with as many as 57 to 63 indigenous ethnic nationalities. Aside being the headquarters of Northern Nigerian politics and the hub where the famous Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto and first Premier of the region resided while he held sway from 1954 to 1966, Kaduna town has attracted the presence of many people from all parts of the country that it is habitually labelled “the Liberal State” before renamed “the Centre of Learning” considering the number of higher institutions of education situated in the state.

In terms of population, Kaduna is third most populated state in Nigeria and second in the north with a population of 6,113, 503 million (2006 census figures). Kaduna, on the other hand, remains one of the most heterogeneous state in Nigeria in view of its diversities and political sensitivity. As a junior secondary school student in Government College Kaduna, I remember a famous quote saying ‘when Kaduna catches cold, the nation sneezes’ reinforced by Col. Abubakar Dangiwa Umar, a former military administrator of the state, that ‘Kaduna is the thermometer of Nigeria.’ The reason for this complexity stems from what experts describe as relationship of ‘two strange bed fellows’ referring to the two major blocks in the state: Northern and Southern Kaduna zones with long histories of difference culturally and religiously which needs no repetition here.

The crust of the matter is since April 2011 to date, there have been series of unresolved and endless killings in Southern Kaduna axis of the state and the situation is shifting from mere communal clashes to an organized and advanced systematized extermination. There are many narratives aimed at explaining the present situation, some controversial, some un-researched and some with substance.

Back to Southern Kaduna’s massacre. There is this new-fangled saying that seems to be fast spreading; ‘no individual is more Southern Kaduna than the other’ and I keep wondering its significance or implication. For me it needs to be redefined in a broad term to augment better perspective of the present predicament, where the elite, the political class and other viable institutions have gone into perpetual silence for God-knows reason, while the killings persists.

The complete silence over the killings of unarmed communities calls for a re-visit of the provocative apprehension to interrogate the silence vis-à-vis failure of the Nigerian state since April 2011 to date. Elected representatives and appointees from the area have gathered but only to endorse political candidates of their choice as if the lives of their people at home is nothing but numbers as these ‘political class’ seem to find it awkward to meet to seek for ways to protect lives of their people under threat of extinction or to cry out loud to the world for help.

Consequently, Bishop Joseph Bagobiri of Kafanchan Catholic Diocese, unhappy over the killings, fired salvo at the elite, saying “I have strong words to our traditional rulers in Southern Kaduna, to the retired military officers, to religious leaders and to our political class. Our playing the ostrich and turning a blind eye to the war that has been brought right to our door steps which is consuming us is the height of irresponsibility and betrayal not only of the people we lead, but also to our parents and grandparents.”

The respected clergy, Bishop Bagobiri further argued that “our fight is not against Islam and Muslims. But we should resist the devil disguised in the name of Boko Haram and all their likes that have been poisoned by extremists’ ideologies of hate. All stake holders from here must wake up from their slumber. We must stand in strong solidarity with the government and with one another to find ways to degrade and consequently conquer this monster, by using every legitimate means at our disposal.”

Going by the happenings in the area, it is apparent that the Bishop is indeed precise because evil has no boundary, Southern Kaduna leaders ought to have mounted pressure on the Federal and state governments and also security agencies to rise to the challenge of protecting the lives and property of citizens and finding ways of ending these killings through genuine and honest mediation. But to date they are playing the ostrich, hiding and playing politics while killings continue without an end. It is also an issue that Southern Kaduna politicians especially the elected representatives and appointees who hold the people’s mandate are afraid to speak out to the world about this. This is what I call ‘conspiracy of silence’ as summed up by Bagobiri as the “height of irresponsibility and betrayal” considering the danger of exterminating an entire area with over 4000 people killed since the year 2011.

It is astonishing that despite the staggering number of 4,000 killed mostly active youth, women and children maimed and cut to death due to the insurgency which started with the 2011 post-election violence that erupted in the area to date, no any meaningful or viable effort has been put in place. As Professor Chidi Odinkalu, Chairman of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) bemoaned: “It is obligatory for Nigerians to insist on having political leaders ready to account for the life of every citizen. There will be elections in this country next year; can we at least insist that every party campaigning for elections in this country for votes should have a plan for ending the killings in Southern Kaduna; is it possible? What is the life of a Nigerian voter worth?

Noticeably, what is disconcerting about Southern Kaduna’s current predicament is poor reading by the Federal and State governments and the failure of Southern Kaduna political class comprising the elected, the appointees, retired top military officers, and traditional and religious leaders to give it a priority. There are no decisive military action or security strategies that appear affirmative; instead it is all political power struggles all the way while the future is grim, gloomy with the peace of communities threatened by an orchestrated ethnic cleansing. It is also apparent that Federal Government of Nigeria has been under a complete parody regarding the insecurity and political situation in Southern Kaduna being exploited by some self-acclaimed political experts in the corridor of power who care less about the people but themselves and their political interests.

Those campaigning against the killings are maligned in derogative terms, presented in bad light and as radicalized elements. They are mischievously blackmailed, blacklisted and all sorts of lies perfectly attributed to their persons. They have been chased out of palaces, offices and threatened with arrests for insisting that the killings must come to an end in view of the consequence and the potency the massacres present to the peace and progress of the area. There are at present thousands of orphans, widows and traumatized locals who are suffering as a result of all these killings which go on with impunity. Above all, there is a looming food crisis and high rate of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the area since farming activity, the primary occupation of the locals, has been disrupted due to fear and insecurity, yet no one seems to care thus demonstrating the situation’s lack of prominence in the agenda of the government of the day so much so that reporting this stark insecurity situation in the country is seen as ‘anti-government’ news reporting.

The campaign against Southern Kaduna killings has nothing to do with politics, it has nothing to do with vested interest but the survival and preservation of the peoples of Southern Kaduna, who share identical culture and largely descendants of the great Nok culture and civilization that appeared in what is today northern Nigeria around 1000 BC and one of the earliest civilizations in Africa. It is about saving life and humanity; it is about peace and reconciliation, development and responsible politics with high sense of morality and fear of God, not the woes we are witnessing and crumbling of values and norms that hitherto existed. It is not about religion, ethnicity or political inclinations but sanctity of life and humanity.

The campaigner are young men and women of integrity and character who refuse to politically smile to the bank when it is time to cry out loud and insist that the right thing be done. Please join us in this campaign as our institutions have turned a blind eye to our plight, while the annihilation of law abiding and peaceful communities is on - going in Southern Kaduna, Nigeria.

May God give us peace, development and strengthen our hearts to be sincere, honest and humane in all our dealings and to remember posterity will hold us accountable for our actions.

60-year-old woman commits suicide in Ondo

A 60-year-old woman, Deborah Lawani, has committed suicide by hanging at No 56, Araromi Street, Akure, the Ondo state capital.

Sources said the incident occurred by midnight on Thursday when the deceased secretly left her husband in bed to hang herself with a rope tied to the staircase of a storey-building.

The woman was said to have divorced her husband, Olabangbe Lawani, 20 years ago.
DailyPost learnt that she returned to her husband about two weeks ago after a reconciliation process initiated by one of their children.

No reason was given why late Olabangbe took her life, but a source told to our correspondent that the deceased once complained that all her children had abandoned her.

The source added that the late woman’s widower was insane and that members of his family were accusing the deceased of bewitching him.

The deceased’s body has been taken to her home town, Ikere Ekiti, for burial after some traditional rituals were performed. http:///6S1JOr

12 Types Of Students You Will Meet In Night Classes
The following are the different categories of people you will meet in night classes in our various higher institution.
1. Customer care agents: this category of people will keep on receiving calls from the time they came to class till they sleep off. If you sit beside them "sorry" and it is more among ladies.
2. The lookers: this category of people will make sure that they look at any slightest movement around them. If they ever see a beautiful/handsome girl/guy then they will never cease catching a glimpse at her/him. You will even wonder if these people actually came to study or to observe others study.
3. The late comers: this is common among girls. When you get to class from 4-7pm, you will discover that the class is empty. They are waiting till 9:30 when their presence will be noticed.
4. The preachers: I am sure this set of people annoy every reader in that class but nobody could pick the courage to rebuke them because nobody wants to be tagged enemy of God's word. The worst part is that these preachers come to preach when they are tired of reading and want to stretch themselves.
5. The itinerant readers: they are people who move in and out of the reading room every ten minutes. Sometimes you see them walking about the corridors. In an extreme cases they can read in four to six classes in a night.
6. The unarmed robbers: yes I call them unarmed because they look very innocent when they are reading beside you waiting for the operation time. They steal things like phones, reading lamp, purse/wallet, laptops, wrist-watches, textbooks etc depending on the person's level of expertise and stealing intentions.
7. The chronic sleepers. Hmmm, this set of people will just enter the class and lay their face on the desk and sleep off. They will not open their book from the time they came in till the time they left. They are always victims of the category of people above. The bad thing about these set of people is that they snore without regards and they fart without conscience.
8. The ash-crammers: they are our first classers, they will start reading from the time they came in till dawn. Sometimes i wonder what they will be doing during the day.
9. The eaters: they will buy biscuit, viju milk, lacasera, gala, chewing gum, infact all the snacks in the world just to attend night class. You will wonder if you are in nursery class or university night class.
10. The pingers: this set of people will never let their phones be. Some will even come with upto three phone. Pressing their phone every now and then that you will wonder if they are actually studying or proof-reading.
11. The toasters: if i mention everything without mentioning our guys and babes who come to night class to look for partners then my list is incomplete. This is for people who are single and searching every night.
12. The last of it all is the couples: they will come to class together, continue talking, chatting and touching each other until they are tired then off they go. They have gone to night class noni
