nkechima: Maybe i should start by saying Well, like you said, it is an open ended question. It really all depends on how convincingly you can make your case. There are after all, many Canadians in their 30's, 40's, 50's and beyond who go back to college/university to start or complete their education. You have to be able to clearly explain why you want to do that, why the program of study and why in Canada. You make it sound as if the 2005 Diploma is completely useless. Have you checked this with the schools of interest to see if any part of those studies could count towards anything at all? For one thing, the less course work you have to do, the less time and money you get to spend in school. For another, maybe it could help you get closer to your goals in some ways; who knows. The other thing to bear in mind is that it sounds as if you are setting yourself up for a long haul through school: do the HR diploma, work, then go back and do what you really want. That will take a lot of time, money (note: school is expensive for everyone here, foreign and Canadian) and motivation. I don't know how much research you've done, but is there no other, more direct route to get what you want? All the best, whatever you decide to do. |

phymeon: Goodday beautiful people,i'm a silent ready and follower of the thread. Please can i get a clear picture of the legal right a student who has completed his/her studies has to remain in Canada (In case persin meet immigration)? Sorry if it sounds like a dumb question, just curious.....cos by then,i bliv the visa issued wld av expired; does the work permit issued after studies now replace the visa or the visa extended? Chrigo, oga Siga,Femmy....and other peeps already in Canny over to you. Please refer here and click on the link, 'Stay in Canada after graduation': http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/work.asp Basically, it works out something like you have 90 days after your graduation to apply for the appropriate work permit (i.e., 1yr, 3 yr, etc). |

fittty: If your goal is to live abroad then you better stay in the UK and get yourself settled. Getting yourself into the system still requires getting married to a citizen whether you're in the UK, US or Canada. Why migrate to another country when they all have about the same procedures (Marriage) to getting a green card, permanent residency etc. Not correct, @ bolded. There are still places where you can 'get yourself into the system' without having to get married. Please refer to post directly before yours. |

You can immigrate as a skilled worker to places like Canada, Australia, etc. You can also come as a student to Canada, get a work visa after school and immigrate that way. Here is the official Canadian Government Immigration site: www.cic.gc.ca There are threads on nairaland about this: https://www.nairaland.com/1279130/canadian-federal-skilled-worker-program-timelines https://www.nairaland.com/1032530/general-australian-visa-enquiries It is never easy settling into a new country as an immigrant, but with detailed, proper planning and being willing to work hard, you can make a success of things, wherever you decide to go. 1 Like |

Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-25670614 Nigeria's president asked central bank chief Lamido Sanusi to resign over a leaked letter about missing oil funds, a source has confirmed to the BBC. But Mr Sanusi refused, telling Goodluck Jonathan that others could have leaked his memo about the state oil firm's failure to account for $50bn (£30bn). Ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo referred to this in a letter criticising Mr Jonathan's leadership last month. President Jonathan was angered by the criticism, denying government fraud. In a rebuttal letter before Christmas, the president said that Mr Obasanjo, who is also a member of the governing People's Democratic Party, was threatening "national security" by whipping up opposition to his administration. He dismissed allegations of "high corruption" in government and said that Mr Sanusi's allegations - made in a letter dated 25 September - were "spurious". A respected banker, Mr Sanusi has spearheaded reforms in Nigeria's troubled banking sector since his appointment in 2009. According to Nigeria's This Day newspaper, President Jonathan demanded the bank chief's resignation over the phone, asking him to leave by 31 December 2013. But in a heated exchange, Mr Sanusi refused to leave his post before his term ends later this year, a source confirmed to the BBC. Mr Sanusi said that about $10bn (£6bn) was still unaccounted for by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and expressed surprise that those responsible were not being asked to resign instead. Mr Jonathan accused the Central Bank governor of leaking the letter to Mr Obasanjo after which the full letter was published in the Nigerian media. Mr Sanusi said the leak could have come from the presidency or ministry of finance and the blame could not lie with him. Nigeria has recently been listed among countries that could become the next set of economic giants in years to come - known as the "Mint" nations. Correspondent says deep divisions have engulfed the PDP over the last year amid fears that it could lose the election under Mr Jonathan's leadership. |

otosa: Please I need help. I have somebody who said he can help me to get six months visa of America and with that six months visa I can survive living there without any problem. please is it true? Short answer: No. The person just wants your money. You can't work in the US without an appropriate work permit or a green card or citizenship, NONE OF WHICH that person talking to you can give you. |

Just be sure you're not marrying him out of pity, or because you feel sorry for him. Marriage is not by obligation; it's a choice to be freely made. A broken engagement is far better than a broken marriage. If you decide you truly still want him and trust him enough to spend the rest of your life with him, fine; go ahead. If in your heart of hearts you just know it's not what you want, there'll be someone else perfect for him. Don't be afraid to walk away. 1 Like |

Basically, she wants to get married. The introduction is sort of the precursor, traditional marriage rite, etc. If you do want to marry her, ask her how it's done in her place. |

Give it up, girl. You're the side chick, he's looking for benefits without commitment, and when he's had his fill, he's going to move on. You both know that. The only questions is, do you move on now, rebuild your self respect and start building a new, fulfilling life? Or do you wait till a man who has no respect for you is done with stringing you along and treating you like dirt? |

If he's been experiencing a lack of success for so long, he has likely conditioned himself to expect failure. He needs to be encouraged to change the way he thinks and sees himself. |

shanitha: Well, regardless of what really happened, the fact of the matter is, he says he can't divorce her and so he's not going to leave her for you. You need to take a deep breath, put your chin up and move on. If he truly loved you, he would not be doing this to you. For your sake, you need to cut your losses and move on. |

freeman533: Well, if it takes 90 credit hours to do a 3 year course, then you'll be doing 30 credit hours per year. According to the fee schedule, 3 credit hours will cost 1,383 (6 credit hours are simply double that). Therefore, for one year, your base costs are cost of 3 credit hours times 10 = cost of 30 credit hours = approx 13,830. Then add on the non refundable and other fees mentioned in the fee schedule, such as 3 credit hours registration fee of 15.90 times 10 for 30 credit hours, which will give you 159, etc. At the end of the day you'll probably end up between 14 and 15K for the year. |

pappilo: I also cant understand this no job stuff. Where I work there is a new Aussie or Kiwi fresh of the plane starting a £300/day contract job almost every other week. Em, some of us are saying try places like Canada because we went through the foreign student route, like he intends to, followed the government's rules to immigrate, which is basically what he wants to do, and got settled, which is his ultimate objective. So we do know a bit about what we're talking about. 1 Like |

lareine: I hope I won't be diverting the thread but I'm prompted to share my story. I'm in a relationship with a guy, all the while he didn't tell me he was HIV positive until the night before we were to go for tests as demanded by my church's marriage committee. On on part I felt betrayed and angry because he didn't tell me all the while. On the other hand I feel pity for him because it could have been anybody. When my pastor asked him why he didn't tell me all the while, he said he was believing and is still believing God to heal him. At some point, both of you will have to tell the truth either as you keep on waiting, or when you break up. What has he been saying to the people asking questions? How do you really feel about this whole thing? It sounds like he rushed things because he didn't want to lose you, and was somehow hoping things would work out. You are not obligated to keep waiting, you know. |

@freeman533, re your post in the Canada thread: bear in mind that you can get a few English language courses, in Europe, and that if you do not speak the language, you will take a language course before starting your main course of study. |

shanitha: I would like to know what happens if a nigerian travelling to Italy is imprisoned? Would the family be notified? Or will the nigerian embassy be notified? I am from singapore. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Generally, it is up to the individual imprisoned to request to call either the embassy or their family or a lawyer or friend, etc. They still have the right to do that sort of thing even in prison, unless it's a completely lawless situation; and even then, fellow inmates may also have smuggled in cell phones which they can use, for a fee, to contact the outside world. |
