Politics / Congrats To President-elect Goodluck Jonathan- The People Have Spoken Loud & Cl by ikoyiboy: 6:09pm On Apr 17, 2011 |
Nigerians should be very proud today. They have defied expectations and conventional wisdom and held a presidential election that was not only free and fair but also open and very transparent. Naija taught the world a lesson in democracy and have freely elected Goodluck Jonathan as their president for the next 4years. Congratulations to Goodluck, Jega, and the Youth Corpers who all contributed tremendously to the success of this electoral process. Although there were some hiccups, no one can doubt the veracity of the results. The openness and transparency was there for all the world to see. While there was some Jega-jega, there was no major wuru-wuru. No longer does Naija need any more lectures on Democracy from anyone in the West. Honorable mention must be made to Speaker Dimeji Bankole, who, in the most honorable and decent act he ever made, magnanimously and graciously accepted the will of the people and accepted defeat without rancor or bitterness. This single act of decency by such a powerful official set a tone of civility in subsequent elections and serves as a clear example for all powerful politicians who have been rejected by the people at the polls. Messrs. Buhari and co. please take note. The big winners here are the Nigerian people who turned out en masse, by the millions throughout the length and breadth of country to cast their votes and let their voices be heard loud and clear. Fortunately and impressively, the people defied convetional wisdom and REJECTED ethnicity as a basis of voting. Contrary to the views of official punditry, THERE IS NO NORTH-SOUTH DIVIDE AMONG THE NIGERIAN PEOPLE. The people are apparently more advanced than the "experts", especially those in the Western press. The people in the Southwest largely & overwhelmingly voted for the Goodluck/Sambo ticket even though neither of them is from that region. They clearly REJECTED the ACN and CPC tickets whose VP candidates are from that region. The people in the Southwest clearly said NO to ethnic politics. Very impressive. Moreover, even in the heart of the North in Kaduna State where Buhari won, well over 1million overwhemingly muslim northern citizens voted for a Christian Ijaw man as their President, this is simply terrific!, The Nigerian people have changed while so-called experts are still stuck in a retrogressive tribal mind-set. No be today wey Naija people reject tribalism, Way back in the 1993 elections the people in the North chose a Egba man as their President. Much earlier, in 1979, millions of of Southerners voted for a Sokoto schoolteacher as their Preisident It's the "experts" who are tribalists NOT the people. THE PEOPLE HAVE LONG SINCE MOVED ON BEYOND PETTY TRIBAL POLITICS. They proved that once again on Saturday. We have shown ourselves that we can take our rightful place among the democratic nations of the world with pride. Now the real work begins. Goodluck must now be constantly held accountable to the people who wholeheartedly voted for him. The elections were well done. A little Jega-jega, but no wuru-wuru! Congratulations to the Nigerian people Congratulations to the first minority President in Nigeria's history! |

Politics / Re: Jonathan To Remain In Charge While Yar'adua Recovers by ikoyiboy: 4:38pm On Feb 24, 2010 |
the corrupt vultures who surround the hapless yar'adua, lead by the overambitious and dictatorial emperess turai, have conspired to bring him back in under the cover of darkness in the dead of night, in order to protect their own slimey behinds, and continue their voracious pillage and plunder of nigeria's dwindling wealth to the detriment of the long-suffering masses. |
Politics / Re: Civil war not against Ndigbo — Gowon by ikoyiboy: 1:26am On Feb 17, 2010 |
Gowon's inept leadership and his failure to abide by the Aburi Accords lead the country down the slippery path to civil war. His latest statement implies that he was concerned about the welfare of Igbos in Nigeria. His actions (or inaction) at the time, however, contradict this concern. He never lifted a finger to stop the pre-war massacres of Igbos. Nor did he attempt to reign in the atrocities against Igbo civilians commited by his field commanders during the war. Moreover, at the war's end, despite his much publicised policy of "No victor, no vanquished", no serious attempt was made by his regime to re-integrate Igbos into the army and civil society. This contributed to the fracture of national unity which exists to this day. |
