almodjoy, what is all the selotape you are using to cover your pretty face? who are you hiding from, or you think a nairalander will "charm" your picture Back to Topic, I live in London, one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world, great transportation links, fantastic history and very diverse. It has a bit of every thing. Will try to post pictures when I can. |

This thread is unnecessary . I thought Manchester United won . why don't you guys spend your energy celebrating your teams success. There is no need to start a "mob attack" and bringing up past comments of Arsenal fans, Loyika, Debosky, Mc Omo etc. Remember those comments were made in "good faith" at the time, and they expected the team to do well. The team has not done as expected and most Arsenal fans have been gracious in defeat. What else do you guys want? |

4play, Liam and his brother would have been better off as Man U fans especially with their foul and uncouth attitude. Well it proved my point that most people born and bred in Manchester are City fans . I have changed from the tearjerker to Queen's song "The show must go on". All my Arsenal brothers and sisters, let's not give up, we will rise again |

Gosh, my eye sockets have taken a battering this past one week Have been playing the "tearjacker" number from Oasis all evening called "Stop crying your heart out", how beffiting as Oasis are Muppets United fans Have run out of excuses for Arsenal but i know things will start getting better, the guys may just start playing now there is nothing to play for. . This season is so bad as totenham, as useless as they are actually won something, and we will be dusting the cobwebs from our showroom yet again Gunner for ever. |

All you mancs, just keep having fun at our expense . The game at Old Trafford may be irrelevant as Wenger may be looking to next season already. The loss to Chelsea and the string of draws previously was what damaged our title hopes. Mukina, Don't mind the German "Shepperd" called Lehman. . He should be one of the first to be shipped out. Personally, one third of the current squad need to be flushed out, get them bikes and wave them goodbye for nothing . And the next time Adebayor does another stupid hairstyle, i will shoot him myself. |

PL+C: This is a shallow arguement, and basically a lie. People have their own interests and should follow them. Some guys don't like sports, those that make them less of a man? . Please think before speaking You claimed that no female contributed in the algebra cafe thread? How many guys do you think contributed out of the whole population of active nairalander? you do the maths. I actually contributed to that topic, and havent gone back yet as it doesnt really catch my fancy. You should have gone to specsavers |

4 Play: Are those not non-league football teams? You are not serious. What am I supposed to do with those teams? Sit on my armchair and eat fish and chips? Though one of the grounds of the above named teams is not too far from me . You have asked why i don't support west ham as my "local" team in a previous post. I don't want high blood pressure throughout the season wondering if we will stay up or go down . Unlike Manchester United, Arsenal is the only club never to be relegated, so are a safe bet that they will still be in the premiership even if Manchester United, unlikely as it sounds do a Leeds . BTW, i hate that profile image of yours, makes me wanna puke |
Foreign Affairs / Re: Us Coup Backfires, But Most Media Outlets Unwilling To Investigate, Cover Story by Imani(f): 11:04pm On Apr 11, 2008 |
4 Play: 1. Newspapers in England, No. Don't know about the US though. 2. The media "neglect" of the situation going on in Dafur is similar to that which happened in Rwanda. Yes, there was no western involvement but does is the media silence justified? When i say "west", i don't single out just the US or UK. I know these two powers have different foreign policies, but "cooperate" on most issues. 3. If Nigerians on Nigeria know more about middle east conflict, then it is the problem of our media houses. The NTA is unlikely to air negative reports especially if it has to do with political cover ups. The other time AIT offices were locked up because soon loon in government didn't like what was being broadcast. 4. I am not anti American, but prefer British policies in general to the Americans. Anti American feelings is probably only natural for some considering the fact that America, as a super power and the most powerful country in the world, doesn't give due consideration to others sometimes, and people don't like authoritarian regimes hidden behind the banners of democracy. Of the American political parties, I support democrats at least since the Clinton administration. I know you are republican supporter 5. I saw some Falun Gong protesters opposite the Chinese embassy last year when i was in the area. There was lots of literature about the killings and removal of body parts for rich donors. I really don't blame the US or other western states for getting involved because the interference into Chinese political issues can be extremely difficult especially for a government that is set in their ways especially regarding internal affairs. |

4 Play: I will defer to your analysis on this subject. I fully understand your stance on mooslim "groupthink" in the context that you have used it. There are 2 sides to the argument though. One school of thought says "not to paint everyone with the same brush", while the other says looking at previous history, it is easy to see why generalisations are sometimes made. It is true that mooslims are "louder" in their grievances than the Christians and most share in the "hatred" for the state of Israel. My stance on the Israeli/Palestinian issue is that Israel has every right to defend itself and her people against terrorists, particularly suicide bombers which certain parts of the i'slamic faith endorse. I once saw a documentary in which a young child was being "programmed to "hate" the Jews and taught to call them "dogs". Now, that may well be media propaganda, who knows? I have never been to the region and base most of my observation on media reports, articles, books etc. I made a point in my previous post about the communist states particularly China and maybe Russia to an extent. I have had several Chinese friends and they ALL believe Tibet should continue to belong to China. This is also a case of group think, but without the faith element. Remember the media in China is highly monitored and government agencies are quick to dissolve any dissent by force if necessary. What you be your views on the communist blocs? Please don't tell me they are wonderful. |
Foreign Affairs / Re: Us Coup Backfires, But Most Media Outlets Unwilling To Investigate, Cover Story by Imani(f): 6:59am On Apr 11, 2008 |
Afam, I have to agree with you that there is media "collusion" going all the time. At the end of the day, media houses also have their own agendas and will generally not want to fall out with the government in power, except they side with an opposition party. I will not go as far as to say that articles in magazines such as vanity fair is more credible than articles in financial times, time magazine, etc but like someone once said "don't always believe what you hear". With regards to the middle east policies, of course America and the west generally will have their own agenda which they want to portray. Nobody seems to care much about what is happening in Dafur and only a few media outlets pick up on the story weekly in the UK. In fact, it hasn't been mentioned during question time much this parliamentary session. I believe when a story is reported, there are usually "behind the scenes" incidents that the media outlets can decide whether to believe or not. Using the Iraq war, some of us never knew some of what the Americans and British solders were doing until the story broke out through pictures leaked to the press, probably by whistle blowers. Of course the MOD and their American counterparts would tried to suppress the news anyway before it was published. Media houses also have their own agendas. They are after ratings, therefore, they may "break a story" to get maximum audience. The context of which you have used media collusion was regrading the middle east clash, but looking closer to home, collusion is more rife in developing countries eg Nigeria, especially among politically exposed persons, and in the former soviet union blocs and other communist states. 4Play, I find your illustration of "groupthink" interesting. Of course you used "name" to illustrate your point, but the same can be said of other factors such as dressing. You claim the mooslims are less likely to "dissent" from popular opinion. I agree that while it might seem the case, but on closer inspection, i will say this generally applies to the hardliners. My example of dressing, from the female point, is that there are different types of i'slamic dresses but depending on how "religious" a woman is in certain parts of mooslim world, they can or cannot follow the strictest type of dressing. I used to think all females were mandated to cover their hair until i met some at university who didn't. This is not to counter your point of being like "zombies" because i am aware, there is still a lot to be done to improve women's rights in the region. The context of my example obviously has some flaws, as i have based my illustrations on interactions with mooslim OUTSIDE an Arabic state. I doubt women in Pakistan would have such liberty, even though the choice is there but if the men refuse to allow them to use that choice, then it is no good to them. I think you will also find issues of groupthink maybe stronger in communist blocs such as Russia, China, Japan, Cuba etc, these people are not generally mooslim. So widen your pool. I will come back to your example of name calling. Have to dash off to work now. No "african time" allowed and rightly so. |

SAM MILLA: The british generally are stoic to strangers. It does not mean they are "sqeezing" thier faces. Americans are "friendlier" and generally more chatty. You must have heard the expression "stiff upper lip" used when describing britons. The french are even worse in this regard. I work with quite a few british people and they just go about thier own business, doesnt mean they are avoiding you, it is just the way they are. Culturally we are "different" we are generally more social and inviting and hospitable even when it is not necessary. It is all about cultural differences. None is either right or wrong. |

almondjoy: Are you serious? I haven't personally travelled on Nigerian Airways, but those who have recall having "bumpy flights and being served either akara/chinchin/ or some ridiculous food. I dont know how true that is but if Nigeiran pilots have to "estimate" where to land since the tower house/ radio controller may not efficient, i will talk Ghana Airways instead. Of course, I love Nigeria with all me heart. What i know about BA is that they are never on time to anywhere especially Lagos, and they have been fined recently along with Virgin for collusion and other price fixing charges. |

4Play, This ARSENAL chic does not "sleep with the enemy" I do not know who I even want to win the cup now. Hopefully not Muppets United or Chelski. Will be too painful. I do not mind Liverpool winning again. Arsenal have failed to take chances at critical stages of this season. They seem to forget that we have to play to win and it doesnt have to be "sexy". Well, there is always next season . I think i should join the management team and encourage miser Wenger to actually SPEND money. With a defence that leaks more goals than a basket, we will only be dusting cobwebs again next season and be like Totenham always singing "so near, yet so far" . Poor old Totenham, they still get a lot of stick even when they are not playing |

ayettymama: How would you know if people are "lazy" if you have never been in their shoes? Living in Nigeria for some is like living in a jungle. A lot of basic amenities taken for granted in the UK like running water, electricity, good roads, good transport links, good education, shopping malls are very limited for most and the average wage for some earners is less than £5 per week. These are people who probably have families, maybe more educated than you but the opportunities are simply not there, or if they are have been subjected to nepotism, as happens a lot in the Nigerian culture. Sometimes it is "who you know" that matters and leads to the right connection. I am not advocating we all abandon our "beloved" country, but for some, when you get an opportunity to see a different way of life, why would you want to go back into obscurity? 4 Play: Tochukwu dear( I have a lady friend called by that name who is way calmer than you ), are you sure the "ministry you running is not another "side business" in London. To be fair, if you dont have to use this level of maths, either at uni or in your line of work, then what is the point of learning them?
