Why the interest?
When America sneezes, we all catch the cold,

QUOTE: "THE TOP MINISTERS AND PRESIDENTS THAT STEAL NIGERIAN MONEY TO GIVE IT OUT TO SWISS BANK TO USE IN DEVELOPING HIS COUNTRY THEN COME BACK AND STARVE HIS OWN PEOPLE ARE IGBOS"

Maybe so, but how do you explain the exact same behavior regarding squandering of wealth in countries like Equatorial Guinea, Cameroun, Gabon, Angola, Sudan, Tchad, Cote d'Ivoire, , the list is endless,

It's far more reaching than just one tribe, it's a pan-african problem.
Politics / Re: Just 3 weeks as Sudanese Vice President - Who killed John Garang by Inkwazi: 11:57pm On Jan 31, 2008
Lets not run with speculation here.
John Garang was probobly the best hope at a peace in Sudan.

He was killed in an air crash, sounds simple right?

The Aircraft:

The aircraft was a clapped out old Russian Mil-8 . These aircraft are notorious for crashing, one of the poorest safety records in aviation.
After they've time-ex'd out or are retired from service in the Ukraine or Uzbekastan or Kazakstan, or whereever, they find their way to Africa where they receive very little maintenance and are often flying in a condition that would ground them anywhere else.

The Pilots

Ugandan military pilots. Undertrained and with no experience in poor weather flying. Did not hold instrument ratings and , most likely, were in the pilot seat because of who their uncle was, or who the tribe to which thier father's cousin's second wife belongs to, you know the story.
This plus the pressure of getting a VIP to his destination, causes inexperienced pilots to make irrational decisions, like flying in conditions outside their ability.

The Weather and terrain

Very hilly and occured during the rainy season there. That time of year often leaves the tps of hills shrouded in fog and mist. It was poor weather that day with airports in the vicinity all reporting rain and mist.

Do the math, inexperienced pilots without proper training flying a machine that probobly wasn't serviced or equipped properly in hilly terrain duriing bad weather and low visibility, now add in the pressure of flying a VIP who wants to get to his destination and doesn't care to think about the consequences.

You may speculate all you want about 'plots', but most likely his death comes from the same causes that makes Africa the most dangerous place on earth to fly, incompetence, nepotism, corruption.

With respect to government, it is always true that you get the government that your willing to fight for.
or, you get the government that your willing put up with, either way, the only way a corrupt government (which is all that Nigeria has ever had) can only be changed when people screw up enough courage , get together and change it.
Nigeria is the largest oil producing country in Africa, and 5th in the world, yet the majority of people live in squalor. Too many people actually think its great when their president purchases a new 35million dollar private jet, while sewage flows in the streets,

QUOTE:  We should stop being hypocrites and do the right thing. Its only us that can move this country forward, no one else

Well said, !!  That, my friend, in a nutshell, is the ONLY way Africa shall move foward.

It all starts with the little things, like asking someone not to drop their rubbish, once you fix the little stuff, the big stuff comes naturally.

I am glad to hear you are proud to be Nigerian.

Pride is the very first step in effecting change,
Think about it, if you are proud of your Country, then you think about consequences.
Whether it's tossing a bottle out your car window, cheating your electricity bill or accepting a bribe, people who are proud would NOT partake in such activities.
Not just that, BUT you would also express disdain at others who drop a Coke can, or who steal electricity or accept bribes Why?, because they are not just being dishonest, but are also disgracing your country, and proud people do not want thier country disgraced.

If I had a dime for every crack-pot who's said the world is gonna end,

It will end, by meteorite or by a magnetic pole shift, whatever,
but it won't be found on a Mayan Calender or on Egyptian Hyroglyphics, it will be announced by scientists and you'll have about enough warning to bend over and kiss your ,

Zimbabwe, probobly the best example of , 'don't wish for something you don't have, you might just get it!'

He and his band of thugs took what was THE most productive country in Africa , a country that grew so much grains, it exported 75% of it's harvest and turned it into a cesspool, where grain must now be imported.
Just about all infra-structure, developed under white rule has fallen to shambles, electricity is intermittent, the water isn't clean, schools are a shadow of what they were,
In fact, looking strictly at the black population, their standard of living was MUCH HIGHER under white minority rule than it has been under Mad Bob, (see statistics on infant mortality, literacy, life expectancy,)

The people of Zimbabwe would be BLESSED if Ian Smith rose from the dead to rule again, they never had it SO GOOD,
Politics / Re: Is 419 in our genes? by Inkwazi: 10:17pm On Jan 29, 2008
There is no 419 gene. Period.
But there are genetic factors in other things that lead to such behaviour and they are common throughout africa, not just Nigeria. Corruption is largely the result of an inherent inability to look ahead to the future. Too many Africans think only about the here and now.

"Grab what ever I can get, because, tomorrow it may not be there', is the common ethos amongst Africans. And, yes this same ethos occurs in other cultures as well, but not at such a critical mass as it does here. And other societies look far enough ahead to set up systems that punish this behaviour, whereas in Nigeria (and a host of other african countries) it's rewarded!!, even encouraged.

Now the genetic factor?, well for thousands and thousands of years, African people have been subsistance people, hunter/gathers who didn't develop agriculture, beyond that of subsistance farming,  and this 'subsistance' mentality is what keeps them from looking ahead more than a couple of hours,
and this, in turn, leads to corruption,

As an example, An African man doesn't think about how being a policeman can make your community more secure, but rather he thinks  how being a policeman will give him the opputunity to extort and graft,
Short term thinking rather than long term community based thinking,

Thats the difference between a Nigerian and a Swede,
Travel / Re: Passengers Exchange Blows In Moving Airplane by Inkwazi: 11:18pm On Jan 23, 2008
Why not jammers,
It's simple really, the reason some electronics MAY interfer with navigational equipment is because of the rf (radio frequency) radiation that SOME devices 'leak' out or transmit on are close to frequencies used in aviation.
For a jammer, for instance, to jam a cell phone it would have to work on those same frequencies as the device your trying to stop,
Secondly, some devices don't transmit interfering frequencies intentionally, but rather 'leak' those frequencies as a result of being used. ie: printers, cd players, pc periphials etc,
A jammer won't stop this leaking rf , only add to the problem by creating even more stray rf,

hope this helps,
Culture / Re: What Must They Have Done To Deserve This In This 21st Century?where In Nigeria? by Inkwazi: 10:57pm On Jan 23, 2008
I promise you, what ever they have done pales in comparison to what Nigerian leaders continue to do,
Do you have any idea how much oil is being pumped out of Nigeria? Do you have any idea how much money your so called leaders have squandered upon themselves?
Between 1975 and 1995, enough oil was pumped out of Nigeria to give every man, woman and child in the country the equilivent of $30,000USD,
Remember, you get the government your willing to fight for, and all it takes for corruption and greed to rule are for good men to do nothing.
Foreign Affairs / Re: Why Did Adolph Hitler Hate Jews So Much? by Inkwazi: 10:29pm On Jan 23, 2008
Wow, a real can worms got openned up here,
If the question were changed, the answer would be more understandable.
Hitler did not hate the Jews. , he feared them.
Jews made up a disproportional amount of the heavy-hitters in the economy, particularily banking and in the late 1920's Germany was crippled by reparation payments demanded by the Allies (mostly the French) after WW1. The deutchmark was worth almost nothing and people lost confidence in the weimar republic governement.
Hitler just said what most non-Jews suspected, that the banks , under Jewish control, were crippling the German economy and subjugating what value was left, to Jewish interests outside Germany.
