Travel / Re: Canada Spouse Open Work Permit (sowp)timeline by Jhabulani: 5:09pm On Feb 12, 2023
Hello friends,

Based on everyone's experience I wanted to know if I might have made a mistake. So I got my student visa in August and applied for my wife and son's visit visa in August end.
I was to resume in January 2023 and I felt I needed my family here by all means, so I took the risk of travelling to Canada in October (I spent 1 week) in other to get my study permit, I got it and applied for SOWP for my wife and visit visa for my son by October end. But I've not gotten any update, and you guys know the waiting isn't easy.

So I was thinking maybe my first SOWP was too early since it was earlier than the resumption time, and I should probably cancel and re-apply.
What do you guys think? It's been about 4 months now.

I know some people waited longer, I'm just talking based on my situation.

:Please I need same help too.

Also, I need you guys advise. My Student visa has been approved, and I understand that in other for me to apply for my wife SOWP I will need my study permit which can only be given at the point of entry. I am supposed to resume in January, is there any means to apply for my wife SOWP without my study permit?

Who says they are not attending to visit visa...they won't attend to you if you do not apply for the correct visa category..if your wife will be staying permanently with you then you need to apply for sowp not visit..I know someone that got approval for visit visa last week

Thanks for this info.

To the best of my knowledge, i think you can only be granted entry into Canada one month prior to your program resumption date.

Well, on their site they said there’s no exact time frame though. But I want to be sure.

I think you can but you won't be able to work since your school would not resume till Jan - that's three months expenses before you are able to make any income.

Thanks. I actually don’t plan to stay for long. I just want to get the study permit and return in few days.

Hello bosses.

Can I travel 3 month before my course. Class starts January, but I want to travel by mid October because I need the study permit to process SOWP for my wife since they aren’t attending to visit visa presently.

It's best to receive a decision before planning on applying for your common law partner.

If you receive a positive decision, ensure you get to Canada before submitting SOWP for your partner.

While Canada recognises common law relationship, I think it costs you nothing to spend 26k to obtain your marriage certificate if you don't want to spend money on celebrations.

To prove common law relationship, you must be able show that you and your partner have been cohabiting for at least 12 months. Some of the things to show this are not limited to the followings: proof of living in same address, bank account, children etc.

Please, how long does it take to process SOWP? And is it reasonable to do visit visa for my spouse too with the SOWP?

I’m not a guru but I’ll attempt to explain as I work in Admin/management so I’ll give a few reasons a company would want to sponsor their staff.

1. Internal Memo commending said employees performance/diligence
2. Track record of employees work improving the status/performance of the company.
3. Starting up a new division/department where the employee has experience.
4. Company’s commitment to improving their staff career development.

Boss, I thinking of Canada. I know I’m lazy to read from the thread. But I’m new on this platform so I don’t know how to navigate. Please what does it cost to apply for Canada student visa. How much should be in the bank statement and for how long? Will there be need for interview? And any other advice you have.

The question is open to everyone too

Wow! This is spot on. I sincerely apologize to this community.

I know I have learnt so much and in my little way I have given too. However, my second disappointment really hit me so bad that I am just recovering from it.

Anyways, here is the transcript of my second interview at Abuja

NB: first denial was on Dec 1, 2021
MPOWER Loan funding worth 50k
COA: 45k
Scholarship:3k

Second time, I reduced the Loan to 29k then family funds 16k (reflected on i20)
Had GA also but couldn’t cover for tuition.

VO asked the regular questions of Why are you going to the school, who told you about the school, are you married or engaged, who is sponsoring and all.

After those questions, he paused for a second looked into his system, looked at me again and asked if I have been denied before. I answered yes.

He further asked what has changed. I told him about my finances. The last time I had only the loan funding but this time, my family support came in for my living expenses and the loan for my tuition.

The VO nicely gave me a blue letter.

Well, I didn’t stop there, I pleaded that he tell me what I am not doing right with my application. He was so nice to say “I will advice you work on your Home ties. They are not strong enough.”

I went back to my hotel room battered and shattered.

My advise and what I am working on is to get a full funding before trying again.

I am available to answer questions and clarification about the whole thing.

Thank you.

So sorry bro. What did you say was your plan after MBA?

Once again, congratulations her Husband’s wife. Lol

The other day, one guy (predst*n) said ‘we’ saying “gibberish” because ‘we’ are trying to ‘help’ with ‘our’ 2cent on mock reviews. Lol. Since then we stopped, to avoid ‘bad reviews’ on the name Moshkom.

Again, congratulations and fly safe, Ma!

Please some of us will appreciate this mock. The 2cent can do the magic. I’m preparing for my interview (with my wife) this month. I will appreciate every help.

What could be wrong?
