Politics / The Issue Of Tribe In This Election And Jimi Agbaje by JimiAgbaje2015: 8:44am On Apr 09, 2015
Numerous lies and untruths flying around in the regular and social media concocted by the APC in their usual manner and style have come to the attention of the Jimi Agbaje Campaign Organization. They range from the inane to the insane, some include absolute fiction like Jimi Agbaje intends to promote the Eze Ndigbo to the same status as the Oba of Lagos, that Jimi Agbaje wants to hand over Lagos State to the Igbos and the list of wicked and senseless lies goes on ad nauseum. These tactics of pitting brother against brother and tribe against tribe are not new. In the third republic the vested interests, same people at work here, alleged that Yomi Edu was going to hand over Lagos to the Hausas, that his mother was Hausa, his wife Hausa and his father late Chief SL Edu was a Hausa lover, it worked but within months the architects of the wickedness had all developed buyers regret. Then it was Hausaphobia they whipped up now it is Igbophobia they are trying to whip up not caring how their actions might affect our peace and unity as a Country. These are not lovers of Lagos State but robber barons and desperate people who see their days of feeding fat on our taxes disappearing under a transparent and accountable government anchored by Jimi Agbaje.

Jimi Agbaje has never expressed or evinced any of the sentiments or statements falsely attributed to him. The APC in their desperation to do a hatchet job on him hoping it would buoy their sagging fortunes in Lagos fail to realize that Lagosian are not fools and have seen through their hypocrisy. Maybe it is unknown to the APC and their band of liars that Jimi Agbaje is of royal stock so what would it profit him or be his reason for tampering with an institution that he is a part of. In spite of all efforts by the APC to obfuscate issues by resorting to base and primordial sentiments, let it not be forgotten that the race for the position of Governor of Lagos State is between Jimi Agbaje (an undisputed Lagosian) and Ambode (who though his claim to being Lagosian is arguable and suspect) is at least undeniably Yoruba. The contest is therefore between two Yorubas, any other thing is needless diversion. Jimi Agbaje's position like any fair minded person's is; may the best man win in a free and fair contest which guarantees every voter irrespective of his state of origin the right to vote for the candidate of his or her choice. It is unheard of in Lagos and a first to insist that eligible voters cannot exercise their right to choose but must vote as dictated to them by a particular political party or their lovers.

Lastly it is not rocket science that in democracy where the choice of candidate is determined by votes, the candidate to emerge to represent different areas would be of the stock in preponderance in the area, Latinos in America, Nigerians in England and America etc. Nigerians have been elected Councillors, Mayors, Members of Parliament, in the United Kingdom and they have left a record of distinguished service both the British and Nigerians have been proud of. We close by praying that we emphasize the good things that join and accentuate us and not the vile that debase that divide us.
Thank you for your time.

Signed.

Politics / #fasholalied - Jimi Agbaje Is NOT Owing Tax by JimiAgbaje2015: 9:43am On Feb 25, 2015
The Honourable Governor B.R. Fashola (SAN) has lied again and I think it's time to address his repeated blunder.
With regards to my taxes, there is no truth in this latest piece of misinformation that the Honourable Governor has been peddling. Following the repudiation of his initial allegations about JAYKAY PHARMACEUTICALS unpaid taxes, he has lied again, giving the impression that my company has gone to pay money supposedly owed to the government.
JAYKAY PHARMACEUTICALS has not paid a kobo since the day the Honourable Governor launched his initial attack. We stick to the facts contained in our initial publication, which encapsulated the company's reaction to the Governor’s initial falsehood. To now insinuate that I have gone behind the curtains to pay N500,000 is clearly political silly season - for lack of a better phrase - and quite frankly, beneath your person.
It's understandable that we've both had our differences in course of this election season, but when the Honorable Governor goes about launching unbridled, flat-out-false attacks at me about something as important as taxes, you leave me no choice but to call you out, Sir.
When I got into this race, I decided to make it about the issues. My opponents? Not so much. They talked about me being inexperienced and at some point they said I was "too old to govern" and we responded with BOLD IDEAS intended to put Lagos on a new trajectory - one that is NOT based on Jagaban's tax-and-spend economics but on a framework that would radically push us to new economic frontiers for some of the most under-developed regions in the state like Epe and Ikorodu. They ridiculed our ideas around government-enabled free wifi hotspots across the city - an idea targeted at widening the reach of a world of knowledge that the Internet offers to our young and aspiring populace - especially in areas of low penetration. They called it bold ignorance and out of touch with reality yet they went on to implement wifi Internet-enabled buses a couple of weeks afterwards. As much as we're glad that our BOLD IDEAS inspire you as much as they do us, one must begin to question the seriousness of the opposition in Lagos to make this election about the issues.
How ever you cut or dissect our success as a state over the last 16-years, the fact is that Lagos in the Economic intelligence Unit (EIU) is still ranked 137th out of 140 cities listed in the liveability index. This means that if you take 140 cities worldwide where people consider good to live in, Lagos is the fourth worst place to live in. Apart from this, a World Bank survey shows that of the 36 states in Nigeria, Lagos is still the worst state in terms of the ease of securing Building Permits. It is still on record too that the party the Honourable Governor represents has delivered less than 5,000 housing units till date. It is still on record that more students in Lagos fail WAEC than those who pass. Even when we consider corruption, we are aware that Honourable Governor Fashola is yet to challenge anyone for corruption at the state level. Or is he saying Lagos is 100 percent corruption-free? Yet he goes about castigating the Federal Government. He should walk his talk and lead by example – expose and prosecute high-ranking corrupt officials in his government and the state civil service. The corruption in the Lekki Toll Plaza will be made public in due cause.
Clearly, we still have a lot of work to do as a state but the Honourable Governor Babatunde Fashola has set out to exploit the commanding heights he occupies in the seat of government to bully us. And quite frankly, we shall stand up to bullies.
I think what Lagosians should begin to ask is what is driving the Honourable Governor Fashola’s violent outbursts? What has he got to hide? Other than lay the facts bare to enable the public form an informed opinion.
I refuse to be baited into his self-declared verbal warfare. My politics and campaign will be issues-based and no roforofo badmouthing from anyone, no matter how highly placed, will steer me away from development-based politicking.
There are more pressing issues, more important conversations to have and more problems to solve and the people of Lagos are wondering if their leaders get it. The teachers, the students, the blacksmiths, the bankers, the taxi-man, the small-business owners, they all hope that their leaders understand that the outcome of this election and the future of this state is bigger than any one personality or party. Whatever we do or commit to doing determines whether they have food to put on their tables; whether they can own homes, pay salaries or that their children get to attend schools of their choice. They deserve better.
The people definitely deserve better.

Politics / Jimi Agbaje Resoundingly Wins LCCI Debate by JimiAgbaje2015: 1:32pm On Jan 24, 2015
It was an electrifying debate in Lagos, as the Governorshipcandidate for the Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Jimi Agbaje debated thecandidate of the APC, Akinwunmi Ambode on Friday January 23, 2015 under the auspicesof the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). Under the attentive scrutinyof Captains of Industry, senior members of the Lagos State Government andmembers of the Public, Mr. Agbaje masterfully pitched his policy ideas to thebusiness community.

Mr. Agbaje showed a strong understanding of the critical businessand policy issues, using the opportunity of his opening remarks to set-out his overallpolicy agenda. He outlined what he referred to as ‘business realities’ intomicro and macro issues – starting with the expected impact of falling oilprices, imminent reforms in Nigeria and ending with the problems ofinfrastructure, the high cost of doing business and high unemployment in theface of labour shortages. Mr. Agbaje answered questions deploying verifiablefacts and figures to answer questions thrown at him by members of thehigh-level debate panel which included Ms. Funke Opeke of MainOne and otherprominent members of the business community.

Addressing the issue of the expected impact of falling oilrevenues on the finances of the State, he stated that Lagos needs to diversifyits economy and introduced the concept of the Ocean Economy, to take advantageof the unique geographical advantage of Lagos. According to him, the OceanEconomy will involve the development of Epe and Ikorodu as National fishprocessing hubs and the development of logistics and supporting infrastructure.

Mr. Agbaje asserted his belief that the Private Sector is keyin the development of infrastructure in the state through properly structuredPublic-Private-Partnerships (PPPs). He maintained that the PPPs he refers towill be open to all Lagosians in contrast to the ‘exclusive’ partnerships bythe current administration. He intends to pursue this model to deliver the muchneeded light-rail system, as part of an integrated multi-modal transport systemfor Lagos as well as the provision of housing.

Mr. Agbaje reiterated his earlier position that he will becancelling the tolling on the Lekki-Epe Expressway as the concessionaires havebeen paid off.

According to Mr. Agbaje, primary and basic education ....

Politics / Open Letter To Lasaa (lagosstate Signage And Advertising Agency) by JimiAgbaje2015: 6:07pm On Jan 16, 2015
Dear LASAA,

You will recall that at your founding, your mandate was to manage, regulate and control all signage and advertising activity in Lagos State. Unfortunately, recent events have shown that you have forgotten your calling.

Be that as it may, may we remind you, dear LASAA, that you are a STATE agency. "State" denoting your duty to serve everyone in Lagos, not one particular group, interest or political party.

Dear LASAA, during this election period, many candidates and political parties are going to spend a lot of money on advertising. While commercial media agencies are bound to reap a handsome profit, a percentage of this same revenue will eventually end up in your agency’s coffers, generating more revenue for our dear Lagos State. It is therefore surprising that other political parties, apart from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), have been unable to find advertising space on billboards; even when those billboards are unused. Well, it is not really surprising anymore. We now have an inkling into the truth.

As the Jimi Agabje Campaign Organisation rightly noted: It is no longer secret that advertising agencies are refusing to display adverts from other political parties because the APC-led government through LASAA has threatened to close down their businesses if they dare do so. Already, outdoor advertisements from other parties have been taken down and the advertising agencies that displayed them have been threatened with reprisals if they repeat same.

This is a blatant display of nepotism, despotism, partiality and lack of political fair play. LASAA CANNOT and SHOULD NOT favour any political party above another. Every political party should be given an equal opportunity to display their communication materials in open and available spaces in OUR state, and LASAA, OUR agency should focus on maintaining quality and fairness, not disenfranchising political platforms because their adverts do not feature brooms.

Is this the change APC is talking about?

Dear LASAA, be guided.

Politics / Jimi Agbaje Or Buhari, Who Is Older? by JimiAgbaje2015: 12:23pm On Jan 15, 2015
According to his Excellency, Gov Babatunde Raji Fashola, Lagosians should not vote for Jimi Agbaje because he is 60 years old. First of all, Jimi Agbaje is 57 years old, 16 years younger than Fashola’s preferred presidential candidate. So if indeed 57 or 60 is too old to serve Lagos, is 73 not too old to rule the whole Nigeria?

We have significant regard for Fashola and believe this was either a passionate error or cheap propaganda. The Jimi Agbaje campaign team is focused on the real issues that will make Lagos one of the greatest cities in the world and not just a local champion.

What a clown. Your Oga denounced the deaths of 17 people in France, but he's yet to utter a word about 2000 deaths in his own country obviously trying not to highlight his own cruel and shameful acts of incompetence, lack of care and gross inability to protect the same Nigerians he swore to protect.

To make matters worse, the useless clown and his service chiefs were busy dancing and having a good time while terrorists were also busy slaughtering 2000 Nigerians.

And this worthless, thoughtless joker and a member of the most corrupt and incompetent political party on the surface of the earth want to rule Lagos? It's a dream and so it shall remain forever and ever....

Hello Aresa,
You could have passed your message without resorting to the use of abusive language. We are all frustrated by these attacks and no matter what political parties we subscribe to, we are first of all Nigerians and must unite to eliminate this scourge.

Like earlier mentioned, the Defence Spokesman has given updates on the situation in Baga. We remain certain that one day very soon, Insurgency will no longer exist in Nigeria.

God bless.

Thought Jimi Agbaje's Party politicised the Boko Haram Insurgency by blaming it on the APC as it's main sponsor. The FG has not accepted that people were killed whereas agbaje has accepted that fact..... Hmmm it's an indictment on the Current leadership of the country and the shakey foundations JK is riding upon

I have not seen where the APC was blamed for the attacks in Baga. The spokesperson of the Nigerian Military Gen Chris Olukolade has said Soldiers have been deployed to fight the insurgents. As we all know, terrorism is a global phenomenon and our forces are trying extremely hard to eliminate them from our great nation. Let us unite and support them with our words, thoughts and prayers. They need every morale boost they can get from the Nigerian people. Thank you

Its like Ambode issuing a press release on d baga killings when d APC and Buhari haven't done so.Common sense shud tell Agbaye what he did is wrong on all counts.

Hello Doctokwus,
Sometimes we must forget politics and condemn the evil acts of these terrorists. This war is on Nigeria, not the APC or PDP. Once we realise that, we will work together to ensure peace once again returns to our nation.

Jimi would have made more sense if he can call the attention of his Party Leader and president to do something about it.
17 people died in france the whole country was on lockdown, about 2000 died in baga the most useless president in the world have not even deem it fit to address the nation because he is doubting if the dead are animals or cows or maybe they are APC supporters so their death is a plus to his dream return to power.

I am overwhelmed with sadness at the senseless attacks on the innocent people of Baga (and other North Eastern States). These acts of terrorism defy the teachings of Islam, Christianity or any other religion I know of, and it is unfortunate that the good people of Nigeria have to experience it. Nigerians must stand together to condemn these acts.

I urge us all to say a prayer for the people of Baga, and the soldiers who are fighting to ensure the insurgents are defeated.

Terrorism as we have seen is a global challenge and very serious efforts must continue be made to ensure that our great nation is once again a safe and secure place for everyone.

Why should you vote Jimi Agbaje?

Because everybody matters, NO ONE will be left out. Vote Jimi Agbaje for an all-inclusive Lagos.

A Lagos where everyone has access to Economic Goods and services regardless of where they are from.

A Lagos where the interests of the Crayfish Seller in Ikorodu, the Spare Parts merchant at Alaba, the lecturer in Lasu, the shoemaker in Ijanikin, and the Technology CEO in VI are considered before decisions are made.

Vote Jimi Agbaje. For Bold Ideas, and New Opportunities.

Politics / Us Ambassador Holds Meeting With Jimi Agbaje And Pdp Chieftains by JimiAgbaje2015: 10:11am On Jan 10, 2015
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate in Lagos State, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, has accused the ruling party in Lagos State of hiring people to tear down the posters of opponents, saying, it was an invitation to violence.

Agbaje spoke at a meeting held at his campaign office in Ilupeju area, between PDP chiefs and a delegation from the United States Embassy led by Ambassador James Entwine, the US Ambassador to Nigeria.

“The destruction of the posters of opposition parties is unacceptable. It is a threat to peace,” he said.

In response, the American Ambassador said the PDP chiefs should encourage their supporters to eschew violence and turn the other cheek.

On the Ambassador’s delegation from the USA Consulate were: Mr. Tom Hines (Political Chief), Jeff Hawkins (Consul General), and Erica Chinsano (Political Officer).

PDP chieftains who were on hand to receive the Ambassador at the 207 Ikorodu Road, Lagos office of the PDP Candidate included: Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Captain Olatunji Shelle (PDP Lagos State Chairman), Chief Ola Apena (Deputy State Chairman), Alhaji Wahab Owokoniran (Lagos PDP State Secretary) and Barrister Taofik Gani (PDP State Secretary).

Others were: Chief Bode Oyedele, Chief Tunde Gafar, Barrister Adeleke Adefala and Chief Rahman Owokoniran.

Agbaje told the American delegation that his programme for Lagos State rested on a tripod, made up of: Security, Health and Education.

According to him, the programme formation was predicated on the need to provide a sustainable system upon which all other aspects of development would be achieved.

Answering a question from Ambassador James Entwistle on the Permanent Voters’ Cards, Agbaje said, “We are not comfortable with the issue of voters’ cards in Lagos. In Lagos, we have areas where PVCs are not ready. We are not just ready for this exercise. We have a disenfranchisement of voters.”

According to him, many people who had previously registered for voting now discovered their names missing in the centres where they originally registered, or that their voters’ cards had not been produced by the INEC head office in Abuja.

The American Ambassador explained that the Consulate had asked INEC to look into the problem with a view to cleaning up the process.

“We have been encouraging them to come up with creative solutions,” Ambassador Entwistle said.

Agbaje also told the visitors that PDP in Lagos State would be posting two electoral agents to a polling booth.

According to the Lagos PDP Chairman, Captain Shelle, INEC staff had been compromised, saying, this had been made easy by the location of the commission’s offices in the local government secretariats.

Supporting this observation, Senator Obanikoro said it would be a strategic move that would guarantee free and fair elections should INEC relocate its offices from council secretariats.

“In Lagos here, the experience is that the opposition is intimidated out of the collation centres on Election Day,” he said. “It would make more sense if INEC relocated its offices outside the council secretariats nationwide.”

“You guys are capable of running your elections. We only provide some advice,” the US Ambassador said.

According to him, the Nigeria had a different electoral system from that of the USA, saying that unlike his own nation, the African nation ran a unified operation.

However, he said the US would continue to encourage Nigeria in her quest for transparent and credible elections.

“We are not for violence,” Agbaje said. “We mean to run this election and our campaign on ideas and issues, in order to improve the life of Lagosians.”

Director of Media and Publicity for Mr. Jimi Agbaje, Lagos PDP Governorship Candidate

Politics / The Right Kind Of Experience For Lagos - Jimi Agbaje by JimiAgbaje2015: 11:43am On Jan 09, 2015
I have heard the whispering campaign that I do not have hands on experience in Governance. I chortle at this, because it would appear that the opposition are not well informed of the political history of the Country. It is a well known fact of history that the two legendary visionary leaders in our political pantheon had no prior experience in Government, before assuming some of the most important positions of their eras.

Chief Obafemi Awolowo was never a councilor or a civil servant before he became Leader of Government in 1952 (nomenclature changed to Premier in 1954). Without any previous experience, he pioneered general access to primary education. He built Liberty Stadium (now Obafemi Awolowo Stadium) – the 1st in Africa and erected Cocoa House the first Skyscraper in Tropical Africa. Chief Lateef Jakande was neither a Commissioner nor Minister before he became Governor on October 1, 1979. Yet he successfully abolished the obnoxious shift system in public schools. He was never a Permanent Secretary, but he conceived the Metro-Line and Ferry Services to resolve the traffic challenges of the then Lagos population of 5 million. LKJ, as he is popularly called, came up with 10 mini-waterworks to make portable water available as it ought to be and in just 4-years of being in office he built over 30,000 housing units that were specifically targeted at low-income people. Recall that even the current Governor of Lagos, Babatunde Raji Fashola, for all intents and purposes, was neither a Commissioner of Housing nor an Accountant-General but he had the presence of mind to promote initiatives during his time like the Lagos Building Investment Corporation, as a special purpose vehicle to provide mortgage to prospective home owners.

The enormity of the challenges that ordinary people face in Lagos and our capacity to adequately respond and address issues that affect them would need a leadership with bold ideas and a clear vision. The expectations of our people require that the impact of governance must improve not just by marginal gains but in leaps and bounds in the shortest time possible. Let’s be clear, we will NOT realize the Lagos of our dreams if the experience that we’re counting on is one proficient in cornering the resources of the state, for squandering by a few. Lagos deserves a new kind of leadership – one driven to irrevocably ensure that the resources of Lagos State are deployed maximally and prudently in the interest of, not just a few, but the greater good.

It is my vision to make Lagos competitive again, poised to take its role on the world stage of mega-cities - with cities like Dubai, Hong Kong and Singapore as reference points for comparison or service delivery. I’m confident that my education and my exposure have adequately prepared me for this onerous role and I shall deliver, if given the chance. My life experience grounds my humanity – having run successful businesses while working as a pharmacist and supporting ordinary people at a community level. The innate values that I imbibed as a young man and the tenets that I’ve learnt over the years as an activist with the Afenifere – working side by side my hero and mentor, late Pa Abraham Adesanya – continually reminds me of the importance of a leaders duty to his people.

Make no mistake. The change that we so desperately need in Lagos will not come easy. We will need to fight for it and in the process, we might sometimes disagree. But as we strive, let us remember that we do so for the collective good of our people in the hope that we leave Lagos better than we met it for generations unborn. I enjoin you, good citizens of Lagos, to partner with the me in this election so that together we can realize the Lagos of our dreams. If AWO did it, we also can do it. And because LKJ laid the foundation, our resolve must be to deliver on an inclusive government that will guarantee sustained prosperity for all Lagosians. The experience and achievements of AWO and LKJ remain our reference points and we shall not lose focus.

Lagos deserves nothing but the best and I’m confident that I will give Lagos the best

PRESS RELEASE
January 8, 2015

MISCHIEVOUS MISCONSTRUING OF STATEMENTS MADE BY MR. JIMI AGBAJE AT “AN EVENING WITH JIMI AGBAJE” FOR NIGERIANS IN DIASPORA

Our attention has been drawn to the mischievous misconstruing of statements made by Mr. Jimi Agbaje, the PDP Gubernatorial Candidate for Lagos State, while interacting with friends and supporters in the UK.

At the event, Mr Agbaje analysed different political and regional issues in Nigeria juxtaposing scenarios. A simple political analysis has been turned on its head in a deliberate ploy to mislead the voting public and colourate the massive goodwill enjoyed by Mr Agbaje, the people’s choice.

We have no doubt that Nigerians are not fools and can see through the antics of mischief makers. For history and posterity however, we hereby set the record straight: At no time did Mr Agbaje at said event promote division within the Nigerian polity, either by his acts or words.

Mr Agbaje’s antecedents are clear. He is focused on the politics of issues and has preoccupied himself with promoting the politics of inclusion and fairness in his beloved Lagos State.

For those who care for the truth, the full video of his statement may be viewed here:

Jimi Agbaje has been involved in Politics and policy making (both at a professional level, e.g as Chairman of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and at a socio-political level - he was a leader of Afenifere and Save Nigeria Group). He has been a driver of policy of the regional development agenda of Lagos state since 1998. He runs a thriving company, and has created over 1000 jobs. It is for REASONS OF PRINCIPLE AND INTEGRITY that he refused to work directly under any government.

You conveniently ignored the part where Bola Tinubu anointed someone else before the primaries. That is enough grounds to leave the party. DPA was de-registered by INEC. What would you have him do? The Nigerian constitution does not allow for independent candidates. And with the PDP he stands the best chance to win the election. There's nothing unstable about him sir. Try another one.
