4ril is right on most points because he has a B.Sc and he applied as an undergraduate. Why moving backward??.I guess they hardly issue visa when applying for undergraduate and you look much older close to late 20s.Its still 100% possible for one to get a visa even going for another B.Sc.Mine was like that. My GPA was 2.81 on 4.00 scale and I wasn’t given a graduate admission because the graduate admission GPA was 3.00 despite scoring high on GRE and TOEFL ,I was advised to go for graduate prep in order to boost my competency because they lay more emphasis on GPA and there is no way I could do that on F-visa, because F-visa is only for a degree program. Because of my die hard need to be in that school. I changed my application form to second bachelor’s degree and I was admitted.2nd Bachelor degree was written on my 1-20.I even made it known here ,some folks said I should have applied to another school that could accept me for that GPA, and some said just it doesn’t mean I prepared well for the interview and God did it ,I was given a visa on a virgin passport issued less than 2months.I converted from 2nd Bachelor degree to graduate prep during my orientation and after just a single semester with 3 courses that I enrolled for ,with good grades I was admitted to my graduate program.
It was just God, be you, and be real and noting more.

For those having problems on Transcript conversion from 5.00 scale to 4.00 scale. This is how it goes because I have a copy of my converted transcript . I was given from the registrar office

If you have
5.00 scale = 4.00 scale
A=A
B=B
C=B
D=C
E=C

On 4.00 scale.
A= 4,B=3,C=2

So you can do the calculation yourself.
For those getting their VIS,congratsssssss and those that were denied, take heart and try again, never give up.

Na GOD go deliver me from Antonyms & Analogies, I hav never heard of 99% of those words in my life, lol

@house, i hav a easonable gp of around 4.0 (elect /elect). So i was wondering, if i mange to get 700+ in quant & 500+ verb (by Gods grace), do i stand a good chance of getin a TA, RA or any form of tuition waiver, Secondly, i wont mind if u guys give names of unis that are TA/RA friendly, From your experince especially guys who got Some form of funding. (Am applying for Grad School).
Am also thinking of takn a course in CCNA or V-sat instaltn to Boost my chances. Pls gurus make una help, I wld like 2 be like u guys when i grow Up oh oh, lol

The CCNA or any form of professional certificate would really strenghtened your chances,is good to write it anyway for self knowledge and added advantage in seeking jobs.I had CCNA and CCNP,none were used in the deciding process.The lay more kep point on your GPA than anything.Average GPA would be strenghtened with high GRE score vice visa

First of all I must congratulate you on your strong GPA,this is the bedrock of where they base graduate admission on. I Know GRE is somehow strange at first.As an aspiring graduate in Engineering,more emphasis is mainly on the quantitative part.try and score 700 above on it,but 650 score is not bad at all because your high GPA will upset it.It also depends on the schools here,some school has high ranking than others so will there means of admission higher too. The main thing is the GPA and high score on the quantitative,u are free to go.It also depends on the number of students that applied to the same school with yours and with score higher than yours.

Here is a good website you can use to get the whole University in the US, www.f1study.com ,with this website you can get the universities in any state in US,by rank,by program,by name and by type. The website can also automatically generate school that fit your scores.You still have to know that the more competitive a school is here in US the less chances you will be admitted or get TA or RA.Because there would be other people just like you with similar scores or far above yours.Like my school would have you to spend at least a semester before you are qualify for TA or RA.Mostly the TA is usually better for lesser work than the research assistance .TA just mean teaching undergrad some difficulties they are encountering in the course,somehow more secured than RA where your performance is been evaluated all the time because of the goal set in the project. RA is better or at the end of the day because of the vast experience gained at the end of the day.They are more viable in the labor market or the professor whom you work with could give you job even before u graduate.And also you spend lesser time in finishing.Dont get me wrong,with your GPA and scoring very well in GRE in quantitative,you can get admission in ranked universities here.But the chances of you getting TA or RA would be slim.Maybe they would want you to a semester done first to qualify.

I would advice you to get schools that are not competitive at all ,thereby enhancing your chances of getting TA or RA.I could suggest one likewww. pvamu.edu ,high percentage of blacks in that university and many Nigerians as well.Some of my friends transfered to the university because they couldnt get TA or RA in my school.

All the best.

Bros I didnt discourage you or anybody in anyway.What I simply said is the gospel truth.Be prepared,have relatives here.I work my ass off in Naija to get my things done.I have passed through the hurddles and I am telling people on how to pass through it with little stress.I told u that I was able to raised only the money for my first semester.But God is seeing me through.I came from a poor home and that didnt disturbed me here.

In fact what I have said is no new to what other people have said before on how to plant yourself in the US.If many people had passed through you can still pass through.I am not discouraging anybody.I am even happy that people are coming here to school.But that shouldnt left out the truth.

Again best of luch

Congratulations to everybody that have gotten their visa, and to those that were rejected,I say be strong and try again.I know the road is not that easy but is worth fighting for.I was once like you before untill I was given a visa last spring.To God be the glory everything is going fine for me.

The visa is the most challenging issue in getting to the US,that seems the end of the road ,but it is the second phase of your journey.The best advice here is what people dont really wants to hear.America is not a bed of roses.Yes there is no doubt its the most beautiful country in the world,but establishing yourself as first timer is not that easy to crack mostly on non-immigrant visa.You will see beautiful stuffs and I wonder how long will you continue to be looking for beautiful things.

I believe most people coming here to school cant really afford the tuition rate.Guy is really expensive,but there are supports anyway with good academics background.I only came here with money that would afford me just a semester.I was initially admitted into second bachelor though I did graduate prep with just three couses and now I am doing my master's in Computer Engineering.

Choose schools that you know you have relatives around but unknow to the embassy.That would help you adjust easily.Dont ever think of coming here with the great hope that working here would pay for your tuition and living expenses.Based on my own observation most of the international students that I met here have rich parents sponsoring them here.The money is really expensive except you get schoolarship ,TA and TF.Prepare your coming if you know u wanna school here.If you dont I understand. F-1 students are not allowed to work out of the school(off campus ),but you can get jobs inside the school,jobs u can use to keep the body and soul together.Though you can work after you have spent two semesters.

I am not discouraging you, rather telling you the difficulties for first timer and how you will get ready for it.Make sure u have relatives here to guide you through for the main time. I wish everybody good luck in the US

I just arrived yesterday here in Dallas,wow what a beautiful place to be.I was not really treated to undergo any screening as I hped for before.I didnt last for 10mins,cos they have to work on my I-20 and the I-94 form,my luggage wasnt even checked,they just aksed me if I have any food a inside.I said no.There was no body checked,pull shoe check.I was totally checked in MMIA and frankfurt. Germany was so intensed

The country is too much,ikt seems right from the time you landed and the time you leave the airport you are being scan on every step you made.wow is good to be here,

sayhi2ay:

1. no
2. rightly so, better for the school to put you on provisional status (graduate degree) than a 2nd bachelors. provisional wont show on your i-20, so no way for the consul to tell (it'll just appear as a masters degree), but 2nd bachelors might cast doubt

-my friend had a 2.5/5.0 GPA, wrote TOEFL, didn't write GRE, got an admission for MS computer science/information system, and got a visa.

Right now is too late,I have to really depend on God,my interview is next week in Lagos. My GPA is 2.85/5.00.I wish I had met you before now.Please what do |I need to do to convince the consular that I am competent??But in my admission letter it was graduate program that was written. I had two admission letter one from the internation office and the other one from the graduate school,in the graduate school they said Graduate new and pre(course) or major.I will email you now on yahoo

Hello to the able people in the house,I have been following this thread for almost two weeks now.I must say that you guys are wonderful.

I am also seeking F1 visa and I know that the journey is not easy.I have book my date already 29th Dec.I am going for my MS in IT but I was given second bachelors degree because of my low GPA,they say I just need to do 5 courses in a semester to strengthened my GPA so that I can easily ride on to my masters program.Right now the admission letter states that I am going for a graduate program(post Bacc) and my I-20 says second bachelors.I am 30yrs old with vast experience in the IT field.I have written both GRE and TOEFL.Both good scores.

My questions are.
1. Do they have a specific age for a graduate program??

2.Wont they say that I am not competent enough and that was why I was given second bachelors degree.

Please your contributions.
I would those having interview before new year for us to get in touch in one way or the other
