Politics / Re: Nigerian Female Students Disassociate Self From Protest, Urges Dialogue & Unity by Johnjames11: 8:42pm On Jul 29
Salewa97:
I commend these female students for their stance. Protests are just noise without real impact, and we need dialogue to address our issues.

It's always the same story: a few loud voices making a scene while the real discussions happen behind closed doors.

I hope more young people see the importance of unity over chaos. Let's focus on building bridges instead of burning them. Protests are not the solution; collaboration is the key.

How do we go about the dialogue.

You can't just be calling for dialogue without setting up a platform or stage for it
Politics / Re: Nigerian Female Students Disassociate Self From Protest, Urges Dialogue & Unity by Johnjames11: 8:41pm On Jul 29
You don't just call for dialogue.

You are expected to set up such a platform for dialogue.

That is how to intelligently appeal or intervene in a matter.

Until you are able to do that, it just looks like your empowered to come out
Politics / Does Ganduje Still Have Immunity As Former Governor? by Johnjames11: 3:06pm On Jul 22
Over 100 Civil Society Organizations under the umbrella of Committee Against Oppression and Persecution, COMAP, have frowned at what they described as "the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission's penchant for selective persecution of persons perceived to be in the bad books of certain political interests in the country." They have also asked if the former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje still have immunity years after leaving office as a governor.

They decried a situation where a certain set of people close to the current administration would be treated as untouchables even with already established fraud allegations running into billions of naira, while the EFCC unfairly treats those perceived to be in the bad books of these people by levelling unfair allegations and using the instrumentality of Federal power to turn the tide of the courts against them with impunity.

The activists made specific reference to the ongoing court case against a former Governor of Kano State, Abdullahi Ganduje, whom they said had been indicted in an alleged bribery and multi-billion naira fraud scandal, and whom they claimed the EFCC had been allegedly shielding from prosecution.

They said the EFCC had, despite valid petitions of corruption against the former Kano Governor and reported request by the Kano government for a report on previous investigations the Commission had carried out on him, refused to look his way.

According to them, the Chairman of the Kano state Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCCAC), Muhuyi Magaji, also alleged that the agency had traced N51.3 billion allegedly diverted by Ganduje.

In a press statement issued by the CSOs, they observed that while they recognised the dangers that corruption in public and private spaces posed for Nigeria, a law enforcement agency must not jettison the concept of justice in the service of political aggrandizement.

According to them, Ganduje has not only shunned the court and arraignment about five times in the last few months, in his alleged corruption case at the Kano High Court, but has also seriously disrespected the courts and the Nigerian legal system by not even dignifying the courts with representation by Counsels.

COMAP, in the statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Ibrahim Kure; and Secretary, Barr. Udoji Franklin, said, "The Kano High Court was to arraign the former Kano Governor, Umaru Ganduje and his wife on April 17, 2024, over allegations of bribery and misappropriation of funds by the state government. Neither he nor his wife went to court. They also disrespected the court so much that they didn't send any Counsel.

"Matter was adjourned to 29th April but was stalled again. No representation, no appearance. Ganduje was not present. The case was again adjourned to May 16, and on that day, arraignment was rescheduled to June 5. Still, the former governor, who we are sure no longer as immunity and is not above the laws of Nigeria by virtue of being the Chairman of the ruling party, did not show up. No representation still. The last arraignment was supposed to be July 11.

"At the resumed proceedings on July 11, Ganduje and his co-defendants were again absent. The judge declined a prayer by the prosecution counsel for a warrant of arrest but ruled that the defendants could be tried in absentia. Remember, this is also a criminal case like the one the EFCC is celebrating everyday on another former two-term governor."

The CSOs called on President Bola Tinubu to save the image of corruption war in Nigeria and stop the EFCC from further deceiving Nigerians by unfairly castigating law abiding citizens, intimidating people perceived to have no godfathers and allowing established criminals to roam the streets with audacity at the expense of the country's image.

"We are in full support of Mr. President to turn this country around but he must be mindful of those plotting to terminate his rule after four years with unpopular actions. They have formed themselves into a cabal and will be the first set of people to betray him," COMAP claimed.

The Coalition recalled that, shortly after Kano State repealed its chieftaincy laws and reinstated a previously dethroned emir, believed to be close to former Governor Rabiu Kwakwanso, the EFCC, expectedly, immediately invited Kwankwaso officially, but could not follow up with an arrest when the latter obtained a restraining order preventing his arrest by the agency or others.

"In Yahaya Bello's case, EFCC shunned the laws of the system, treated him like a coup plotter without any official invitation and despite holding a valid restraining order against such, and the Commission thinks it has succeeded in turning Nigerians against him with daily misleading propaganda on their social media handles. Those who are not beclouded by politics and hate know this is deceit and not corruption fight," it stated.

According to COMAP, Ganduje is not different from the former Governor of Kogi State, as they were both two-term governors.

"Aside from Ganduje, there are many pending cases that the antigraft agency has tactically abandoned. We are aware that the N70bn money laundering allegation against Bello Matawalle, former Governor of Nasarawa State, is still pending though he has a restraining order against arrest.

"If the EFCC cannot engage in a just fight against corruption, starting from within its ranks, they should stop molesting vulnerable political figures. It is high time we saddled people with the real responsibilities of tackling corruption in Nigeria and not executing dangerous political survival strategies for paymasters," COMAP stated.

WE ARE NOT VICTIMISED BUT REMAIN COMMITTED , RESOLUTE AND UNITED IN THE RESTRUCTURED UPSCALE LOAN OF 500M DOLLARS FOR IMPROVED LIVELIHOOD OF NIGERIAN FOR WOMEN PROJECT.

This is what we have been saying. Gandollar is simply following in the footsteps of his mentor and drug lord. A man with a well chronicled life of brazen criminality was criminally enthroned as the president of a nation then sane people expected the corrupt and corruption-by-default protégés around him not to see anti-graft war as a farcade and charade? A leader's sin is a leading sin.

Politics / I’m Gov Bello’s Campaign DG Because He Has Same Qualities As My Father: Abiola by Johnjames11: 9:43am On Apr 04, 2022
The DG expressed the confidence that Mr Bello would clinch the ticket of the All Progressives Congress irrespective of the zone of the National Chairman.

Hafsat Abiola, Director-General, Yahaya Bello Presidential Campaign Organisation, says she is leading the campaign efforts of the Kogi governor because she sees the qualities needed to take Nigeria to its right destination in him.

Ms Abiola, daughter of late Chief M.K.O Abiola, acclaimed winner of the 1993 presidential elections, said on Sunday in Lagos that one of the similarities between her late philanthropist father and the Kogi governor, was that they both refused to have political godfathers.

This, she said, was responsible for the persecution the governor had faced by different interests and the controversies around his administration.

The DG expressed the confidence that Mr Bello would clinch the ticket of the All Progressives Congress irrespective of the zone of the National Chairman.

“Nigerians must be given the free hand to choose their leaders. That is the meaning of democracy. My father did not contest to represent zoning interests. His interest was Nigeria and Nigeria alone,” she said.

She added that another similarity was that the late MKO believed in a United Nigeria, just like Mr Bello, noting that he also treated everyone around him with respect regardless of their social standing.

“These are the same qualities I have seen in the Kogi governor. He dared to contest, not minding that he was from a minority tribe in Kogi and won, and he has come out again. My father did the same, when it was believed that a Yoruba man could not be President.

“Yahaya Bello is the best man for the job. And you know me, I’m not driven by pecuniary considerations. I do what I believe in. In the next seven weeks, we will be working hard, and when we emerge, we will deliver a Nigeria of our dreams,” she said.

She said her father would have been happy to see that a young, courageous man like Mr Bello had done everything to bring back his Hope ’93 in Hope ’23, with the same person that did the manifesto on board – Sen. Jonathan Zwingina.

Many Nigerians from all walks of life had stormed the Eagle Square at the nation’s capital on Saturday to witness the official acceptance of Mr Bello to vie for the 2023 Presidency.

While declaring his intention to run, Mr Bello reiterated that he had demonstrated capacity to lead Nigeria in his present assignment as the governor of Kogi, noting that, for him, all that mattered was Nigeria and the wellbeing of citizens.

Ms Abiola pointed out that the presidential aspirant had the right marks where the votes were – women and youths – adding that being the first female Director-General of a presidential campaign organisation was an attestation to Mr Bello’s unrivalled record in women inclusion.

Politics / 2023: Hope; Bridging The Gap With Yahaya Bello by Johnjames11: 5:13pm On Mar 29, 2022
To many Nigerians, another oldish person ascending to the presidency in 2023 is nothing short of a step backward. This is not unrelated to Einstein's Parable of Quantum Insanity, in which one of the world's greatest philosophers once said, "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."

Those who care about Nigeria, the most populous black nation, and those whose memories steadily carry the bag of history are no longer on the side of seeing the country go down a repeating lane in 2023 to vote back a generation that appears to have outlived its prime and may no longer have anything to offer but worsening the people's deteriorating condition.

Nigeria is a country that appears to be disjointed. It appears to be insane for a country in the twenty-first century not to have young people who are the controllers of the digital age in power. This is a country where the youth are spectators as the old rule in their analog-style, plunging the entire country into headship and severe insecurity.

But there is hope and the game changer is coming like a tsunami because the people are sick and tired of mismanagement. It's not grapevine anymore. It is no longer news that a young Nigerian, now known across Africa as a security icon, has taken it upon himself to lead the young people to power.

On a sunny day in Port Harcourt's garden city, a Niger Delta youth leader was asked what he thought about Alhaji Yahaya Bello, the executive governor of Kogi State, running for president of the next national government. Without equivocation, it was stated that while Bello performed admirably as governor, he remains the only hope for young Nigerians to occupy Aso Rock. The young man went on to say that Bello is the bridge between the young and the old, the unifier of all regions, tribes, and gender. But the youth leader wouldn't leave without leaving a question for the interviewers - he said if it's not Yahaya Bello, then who?

Just yesterday, hope for women to reclaim their rightful place was dashed when the National Assembly rejected a bill requesting special slots for women.

Data from around the world show that women are underrepresented at all levels of decision-making, in contrast to the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which set an internationally agreed target of equal political participation and power-sharing between men and women in decision-making.

Yahaya Bello has long been a proponent of gender equality, and he has made Kogi a model state in this regard. Consider how quickly women's self-esteem and political participation could improve if such an arrangement were replicated at the national level.

Bello represents the future of women and youth. It appears to be their time, and we all know that God rarely ignores their prayers.

Here comes a country in which there is no longer a divide between those who lead and those who follow. Here comes a country where people's genders and religions are irrelevant, and only justice, equity, and fairness matter. Nigeria can regain its sanity if it refuses to repeat the old ways.

Yahaya Bello is coming. Welcome the hope and gap bridger.
