Culture / Re: Why Do Igbo People Detest Marrying Other Tribes? by kcjazz(m): 3:00pm On Nov 28, 2013
3 reasons

1. Tradition and culture affects the way Igbos do things at least in the past. Divorce was frowned upon hence its easier with one who you can understand their language and culture. Igbos are weary of family lines and history, before marriages or iju ajuju investigations are made about families if they are osu or whatever. But if it is from Kano it becomes hard to understand the dynamics involved. Certain kingdoms dont marry from certain Igbo tribes not to talk of outside Igbo. A prince might lose his throne.

2. The civil war created a sort of siege mentality among surviving Igbos hence they advice marry close to home. Keep your enemies close

3. Again Igbo culture is a patrilineal culture. A womans wealth is based on her husband not her fathers. But the wealth line requires a male in most cases so other cultures might be wary about handing their daughters to folks who hand over wealth to their son or hisbrother including the wife when he dies

At the end for this reasons above I married a non Igbo . Things are changing

Ubenedictus: he is condemned if he knows d truth but freely rejects it and refuses to hold it. For those who do not know then mercy of God is there.

Haha totally untrue in this context. Italo even answered better even if he puts "other" Christians together with unbelievers.

If you think other Christians that disagree with some of your doctrines are condemned then why does your Catholic Hymn Book have hymns from protestants? I would like to know how many hymns were composed by Roman Catholics that are listed in that book?

Popular Hymns like Trust and Obey, I surrender, Pass me not only gentle saviour, Amazing grace, It is well... just to name a few are sang at evening masses everyday. If you condemn the other Christians why sing their hymns and have the guts to add to to your Catholic Hymn Book? Again like the Bible you compile from others and claim ownership.

Nice thread so far...

Meanwhile my question is... Since the Catholic church is regarded as the "one true "church, whats the churches stand on other Christians (secessionists) making heaven?

Politics / Re: How To Reduce Traffic In Lagos by kcjazz(m): 7:17am On Nov 18, 2013
Develop water transportation, we just need safety measures to free people's mind.
Organizations with more than 50 employees/and earn a certain income should be required to have a staff bus.
Spread the economic hubs around the different LGs
City planners need to step up efforts, certain buildings should never be at certain places. E.g., the proposed falomo Mall on Awolowo road, Ikoyi will cause mad traffic.
Build alternative routes. Lekki especially
Too many rubbernecks grin

The issue of whether it is right or wrong is based on intentions. If it is to propagate the gospel then yes it is a good thing but the question is has every other means being explored? And what is God saying to you.

At the end, God who sees will judge.
Religion / Re: Why Are Nigerians Quick To Blame Witches For Their Misfortune & Backwardness. by kcjazz(m): 10:30am On Nov 15, 2013
John 10.10 The thief comes to steal kill and to destroy..I have come that they may have life and have it to the full. Yes not every problem is from the devil, it could be human error and unintended consequences. But never rule anything out no matter how small or inconsequential. The devil hates every ChristIan believer whether you like it or not.

That said, God is more powerful than the devil. So focus on serving Him and all other things will be in place, stop worrying about the devil focus on God's love and power.

Depends on location and how big you want it to be but definitely Yes.
Lagos or Bauchi?
But even in Lagos those that stay outside the fence under a tree are lower.
Start up cost
Clipper
I pass my neighbour
Mirror
Association fee (depends on location)
Bib

Or you become a home Barber and visit clients/share with a female saloon owner. So yes its possible but tight.

If you are a mass cloth retailer and want to succeed in Nigeria, the simple thing is to source from Nigerian designers. Importing will ruin your costs and the cloths. Go local and run a mean supply chain like Uniqlo. Shoprite succeeds because it sources a large portion from Nigeria at good prices.

Education / Re: Strike: A Wrong Approach To Nigeria's Educational Problems by kcjazz(m): 3:57pm On Oct 24, 2013
Unfortunately, strike is an option because of our type of leaders. Dialogue is good but when it fails then it is a problem. What are the alternatives?
1. Invest more in education per UNESCO, most importantly measure outcomes.

2. Encourage more private universities. NUC needs to step up measures to improve quality. More so most private universities are failing cos they are Jack of all trades, be like Lagos Business School, nothing wrong in having a university of Law degrees rather than stretching funds.

3. Invest in our National Scholarship fund to include private universities.

4. There should be a pension pool for both private and public lecturers. Reduces the power of the union and helps private universities get better lecturers.

5. FG should hire professional negotiators. Can't understand how you agree to something and can't fulfil it. Pay scale should be set and reviewed every 10 years taking account of inflation.

6. Remember the goal is for a better education. Every party needs to chill and be patriotic.

okpurukata: Enough digression and back to the topic. Why are there too many church denominations, competing and preaching different doctrines. If these catholic haters says they do not agree with the catholic church, fine. Why do they keep dis integrating. Is it that the same bible they claim that the Catholics don't know is further causing them confusion? I was just counting the number of Pentecostal churches on my street, almost 30 in number. Some of their pastors are even taking the selves to the police for one issue or the other bothering on competition. I wish one of these 'Bible Knowing Christians' can answer. Italo please keep off.

The thread question is simple. Some folks have answered and there are no Catholic haters. The Bible talks about false prophets in the last days so why bother yourself over the pastors taking themselves to court?

No Christian will argue that every church is of God but most are, all we need is the gift of discernment. Again always remember the goal - the great commission.

Even in the Roman Catholic church, there are divisions past, present and future. Some the Church has taken responsibility and apologised (Read... Memory and Reconciliation, The Church and the past). In the USA there are churches still under RC with female priests, is that not division? Here in Nigeria, the Catholic Charismatics are always in trouble due to their perceived "pentecostal practices" . Recently a diocese rejected a new Bishop based on tribal sentiments. Do we now call them Devils cos of their disagreements?

The Bible says "For where two or three are gathered in My name, I am in there midst" -Matthew 18.20. Also where two or three are gathered disagreements happen. Let us avoid all this my church is better than yours arguments, the work is much. Focus!

Religion / Re: Why Don't Missionary Schools Observe Muslim Public Holidays? by kcjazz(m): 12:35pm On Oct 15, 2013
Federal holiday is not binding on private establishments such as Missionary schools. They can so choose or not choose. Whether there reasons are religious, political or financial shouldn't be anyone's concern. I attended a missionary school while we stayed at school, however Muslims were allowed to visit home if their parents requested

italo:

The devil has rather succeeded in diverting your attention from God's one true Church.

It it the pillar and foundation of the truth. It cannot teach error, unlike the other 1billion "churches" founded by men.

The Bible did not originate from the Catholic Church. Compiled by circumstance Yes but not originated. The Bible is God inspired. Be mindful of your choice of words.

That said, if indeed the great commission is your goal, then avoid this cockiness of one mother church. God created his people to be unique, the Bible as a manual and belief that Jesus died and loves you. You can never get people to love Jesus by being cocky, yes the Catholic Church is best for you but be tolerant enough to understand that others grow their faith differently.

Remember, the goal is to live a good life for Christ and make heaven. In heaven, no denominations, get used to your Christian brothers and sisters now.

Family / Re: Should Your Man Tell You He Cheated? by kcjazz(m): 5:10pm On Oct 14, 2013
For a marriage, yes it is wise to confess to your wife/husband because you have broken a covenant to your spouse and to God.

Secondly, for accountability purpose, the lie you hide will hunt you. Confess and free yourself. Someone somewhere always knows so heck confess and brace up for the perceived consequence. Yes it is good to confess to God, but your spouse deserves to know as well on a spiritual level and for restoration. Unless you want to cheat again but if you need help confess. If you love your wife/husband confess.

A sinful response to a hurt or sin is still a sin.
Spending fake money knowingly is a sin. Paying to influence a decision in your favour at the detriment of better folks is wrong, you can appreciate folks but only after.

Paul and Silas prayed and sang, and when the prison doors opened they didn't escape even though the guard gave up hope. It is not about us but about what God wants really, man's wisdom is nothing and of course we are limited without Him.

The word of God is really black or white, any grey areas ask Jesus for directions

Wisdom is the principal thing, thread with caution.

Politics / Re: Onitsha International Airport? by kcjazz(m): 4:49pm On Oct 10, 2013
bestview: If I will say it was Delta that built a white elephant project because in reality Asaba is a dry place, it really never needed an airport in first place.

So Delta purposely built the airport to tap from the human and capital resources in Onitsha and Nnewi to the benefit of its IGR. Thereby denying Anambra from benefiting from its own resources.

Again there is no need to stay on NL and rant whether Anambra needs it or not when actually the prelimnary work on the airport is ongoing.

If there is any state that needs an airports its Anambra. The good news is that they now have an approval from FG to construct international Cargo airport and its ongoing.

Actually based on FAAN airport traffic data Delta state had a legitimate reason to build an airport. After Lagos, Abuja, Kano and marginally Port Harcourt, the Osubi airstrip in Warri had most traffic in the country. Asaba is more central compared to Warri

Yes airport has been approved but is it what Anambra needs? Even a second Niger bridge will do wonders than an airport that won't pay for itself.
Politics / Re: Onitsha International Airport? by kcjazz(m): 3:33pm On Oct 10, 2013
Anambra or Onitsha DOES NOT NEED AN AIRPORT. Where were they when Asaba built an airport? A bus from Asaba Airport junction to Onitsha main market is N100 so why waste money on another elephant project instead of sharing especially when Onitsha has an upper hand in the economic activity in Asaba. Fix the roads, explore sea and rail transport and security.

The leaders from Anambra are just...

erad:

I didn't use any tone in the background. That's my logo as gray scale over the logo. Logo is the most important aspect of any brand, that's wat every other thing (business cards, posters, brochures, letterheads, etc) is built around. If you notice, the article is summarised... People get bored when there's too many text to read. About the concept behind the logo, that's irrelevant for now.

Maybe some other time when something related to that comes up, thanx.

I understand you want to sell your graphic design skills but LOGO is not the most important part of a brand. For all I care Coca Cola the most popular brand in the world has changed its logo so many times. Your brand is your story. Have this beautiful logo and sew terrible shirts, customers won't come back for the logo they will come back for how good your shirt makes them feel.

Does 419 have a logo? Why is it attached to Nigeria?
What is gala's logo or even close up?

Phones / Re: What Happened To Blackberry? by kcjazz(m): 2:18pm On Sep 24, 2013
Nashville:

The average consumer abroad does not want to carry more than one phone. The mobile phone market is a retail market. Its has never been corporate. The mobile data was what seemed corporate initially but that market too is now retail as everyone is permanently doing something on their phone. You cant separate the two markets as most consumers in developed world do not wan to carry two phones.

I disagree with you. Before 2007 BB was a corporate focused business, part of it was security and all round efficiency. Companies were buying for their staff everywhere. Truth of the matter is not every company is comfortable handing out their information to be used on any platform or phone per security and safety/proprietary reasons.

Focus is key and as soon as BB deviated it was only a matter of time. A company like Samsung is a conglomerate in South Korea, they are the 2nd largest ship maker in the world. They even have theme parks but in order to win outside Korea they focus on their core competence which is consumer electronics.

You always want to fight where your strength is and in the fast paced consumer market, innovate or die. Again, if BB didn't see this as a problem, why did they announce they will be living the consumer market and embracing their roots?

Nashville:

Even if they stayed with only Corporate clients, do you think other phones would not have attacked that market too. The Corporate/Retail market are no longer separate in phones. Many companies now give out iphones and samsung to their staff so BB was always going to be in trouble. They just failed to be innovated.

Focus is key. If they stayed their research and future innovation would be more directed at their corporate clients. The company have realised this issue and have announced they are leaving the mass consumer market. There are companies that focus on corporate environment cos it requires different mindset and objectives.
Phones / Re: What Happened To Blackberry? by kcjazz(m): 1:31pm On Sep 24, 2013
BlackBerry problem was they failed with the transition from Corporate customers to the mass market. They saw the mass market as an opportunity but could not keep up with the innovation. Stick to your core business and don't try to please everyone no matter what.

We have always had livestock census and the last one was in the 90s.

What we do need is mechanized livestock farming. The fulanis are still the best but with education most of their kids might refuse to join the trade. By modernisation we can get more folks into the business. Kpomo and leather will stay side by side as a result of the increased capacity that mechanisation brings.

The potential is huge. Imagine if Peak Milk rather than import its milk gets them local. Mechanize to increase capacity.
