i equally head abt d nacent developmt concernin natforce frm dose in Kanu State command as dey was jubilation in deir command last week. bt let's still keep calm cos if it's true, it will certainly b thrown 2d open very soon. bt my fear remains dat an hausa man may take over as d head. and politicians may equally hijack d recruitment process. hmmmmmm! God will fight 4his children n we shall hld our peace. No, if I may ask you, do I portray myself in any way as their official ? Or is it because of the information, or do I paste my number so that you can call me ? '' A weak student will always have an excuse and will not ready learn'' that is what I can say to you. And I advice you to direct your obnoxious questions to direct channel. I will not entertain any of your questions again since I'm not accountable to you.[/quote] |

Task Force Intercepts Explosives-laden Boat Chief Osita Okereke By Ernest Chinwo The National Taskforce on combating illegal importation and smuggling of goods, small arms, ammunition and light weapons, has said it intercepted a boat loaded with devices suspected to be explosives along the Andoni River in Rivers State. Director General of the taskforce, Chief Osita Okereke, told journalists in Port Harcourt that the explosives, believed to have been smuggled into the country, were handed over to the State Police Command last Monday. Okereke stated that the smugglers saw the members of the task force from afar and decided to off-load the dynamite into the river and took-off, adding that the taskforce divers immediately got into the river and brought out some of the explosives. He said the explosives had already been bargained for by an undisclosed buyer for N8 million before the arrival of members of the task force, saying that the smugglers ran into the task force while transporting the explosives to the unknown buyer. Okereke, who is also the President of Importers Association of Nigeria (IAN), used the forum to call on security agency to join hands with the taskforce to tackle the issue of illegal importation and smuggling of goods and weapons in the country. He, however, frowned at the attitude of the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Mbu Joseph Mbu, who refused to see him for over one hour after he came with representatives of various media organisations, to officially hand over the intercepted explosives to the Police. Gentletwits: Upon EFCC has arrested d acclaimed DG (& former presidential candidate of one unserious political party) of NATForce & about 7- 8 so called zonal coordinator abi directors & prosecuting them& u people are still here either arguing abt nothing, making mountain out of a mole hill or building a white elephant project!By Joe Nwankwo Assistant Editor, Abuja An Abuja Federal High Court on Tuesday blamed the Federal Government for the increase in the proliferation of arms across the country, just as it declared the disbandment of the National Task Force against Illegal Importation and Smuggling of Small Arms and Light Weapons (NATFORCE) illegal and unconstitutional. In a judgment he delivered in the suit brought by the Importers Association of Nigeria (IMAN), challenging the prescription of NATFORCE, which is a Public Private Partnership between the government and IMAN, Justice Elvis Chukwu, equally set aside a directive that was issued by Nigerian Customs in 2011, disbanding the task force, stressing that such action was not only inimical to national security, but also breached the rules of natural justice. Besides, the court dismissed the preliminary objections filed by the Federal Ministry of Finance and National Security Adviser (NSA), challenging the competence of the suit on grounds that the applicants, led by its National Coordinator and National President of IMAN, Osita Okereke, failed to declare any reasonable cause of action. The applicants had approached the court and prayed it to determine whether the action of the NSA in disbanding the national task force, which was inaugurated by the Federal Government on July 16, 2010, following allegation levelled against it by Customs authorities, without granting the Task Force fair hearing, was not illegal, unconstitutional and null and void. Specifically, Customs had alleged that the Task Force attempted to usurp its duties by trailing and seizing several containers containing arms that were illegally imported into Nigeria. It was further alleged that the task force operated illegally considering that it was not duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC). However, in his judgment, Justice Chukwu, maintained that the respondents failed to prove that the task force usurped duties of any government agency. According to the judge, “the respondents had claimed that the inauguration of the task force was carried out in error. “However, the court will want to know at what point this error occurred. From the totality of evidence before the court, it is obvious that there had been a reasonable communication between the applicant and the respondents. “It is my considered view that there was a breach of the rules of natural justice as the applicants were disbanded without being accorded opportunity to defend themselves. “They ought to have been given a hearing before the task force was disbanded. “Court has the jurisdiction to exercise judicial review of such decisions whenever there is denial of fair hearing in any proceeding, be it administrative or ministerial. The court has the powers to declare it a nullity”, he added. |
