Hi Nairalanders....Masters program Admission

It is my first time here.Got Admission in GSU with out of state tuition waiver of over $20k and was denied on 11th January,2019 in Lagos.I applied to the same school and got another Admission with the same out of state tuition waiver and on 23rd July,2019 in Abuja, my Visa was approved but my sponsor's bank statement was withheld for further verification. My sponsor is my uncle and it is a genuine account statement.I was given two white papers and one yellow one showing I will be in Administrative processing. The statement of account is a company account and the VO said I should write the name of my uncle in full and give her and I did.She said it is going to take few days but today is 31st July I have not heard anything. My case was opened on 23rd July and last updated 23rd July.Anytime I mail passport status it will tell me "passport is with the post" but this morning it started showing me "there is no status update available with the passport number submitted".I checked using CEAC website it was still on Administrative processing with the same last update 23rd July, which is the date I went for interview.I don't know what to do.What do you guys think is happening? I am to meet with a professor by second week of August for prospective research position which I have discussed with him.My school will be starting August 26.Your meaningful contribution is highly needed.Thank you

You don’t have to worry yourself about it, allow them to verify the bank statement and also to do necessary background check. Since it’s a company’s account it may take more time and if it’s a genuine bank statement you will have nothing to worry about. Mine lasted for about 4 weeks before it was finally approved.

Make sure you contact your school so that they will be aware of your visa interview status and if you are still on Administrative Processing till class resumes, request for date extension from your school and if the extension date expires and you are still on AP, defer your admission to Spring 2020.

Goodluck and Congratulations man.

Please guys. I need serious advice.

My sister is my sponsor. She's married for 2yrs now.
Her bank statements still has her maiden name (Same surname with me) but she already changed her name in most of other things.
Now when filling ds160. I'm confused on what to fill. whether her current full name or name on bank statement. and also If I send the bank statements to my school. my I20 will come with the name on it.
I don't know which name to use.

Help

Use exactly the same name that is on the document (bank statement) you will submit to the school or present during visa interview.
Some schools (my school) don't write the name of your sponsor on your I-20, they only specify the relationship as the source.

Does applying to only one University reduce my chances of getting visa when ask during interview?

Secondly I applied for MSC without GRE and TOEFL because the school doesn't require it will that also affect my chances of getting visa when ask?

One love house.

Please don't make this mistake of applying to only one school... Apply to more than one school and take at least one standardized test, GRE preferably. These will definitely increase your chances of getting your visa approved. GRE also give you the opportunity to scholarships and on campus employment, don't miss it.

Why did you choose Digital media production?

I am passionate about the course and want to gain more knowledge in it, there are not many expert in this field here in Nigeria, so I believe the knowledge I obtain while studying in New England institute of technology will help me stand out once I return Nigeria and it's going to be a great boost to my career....

I just want to know by if that response is okay for such question.
PS - I already have HND in mass communication and I'm going for Associate degree in Digital media production....thanks.

If Digital Media Production is under Mass Communication then you should be good when you say you need an expertise in that field. Based on my judgement, your response is good but research further about Digital Media Production so as to have a more clear objective of your career plan. The visa officer may ask you to tell him more about Digital Media Production and how it will help you in life.

You can contact your account officer to check if your is the one delaying the process. I work as a contact center consultant with a bank in Nigeria, a particular embassy sent a SOA for us to verify, but due to backlogs no one responded to the email. The embassy decided to call, I happened to pick the call and I ensured I contacted the customers home branch and responded to the embassy within 4hours verifying the authenticity. Liaise with your bank to see if that is pending with them.

Is it possible for the bank to reveal an applicants account balance to the consulate during verification?

I understand f1 visas are issued 120 days before resumption date but the question is, what are the consequences if I go for the interview days before the resumption date. Thanks

There's no consequences attached to it. It is advisable to schedule your visa appointment as soon as you receive your I-20 or as early as possible so that you can stand the chance of reapplying should in case you are denied a visa. Please save yourself then pressure and tension of being placed on Administrative Processing when you no longer have time on your side by scheduling your visa appointment as early as possible.

You right. But its second degree she wants to go for

If you have a bachelor's degree please proceed to Masters. The visa officer will ask you why you are going for another bachelor's degree. If you are changing field you will need to explain why. Save yourself this questions which they already know the answers you can give by going for Masters degree.

Now i wish to apply for student visa wit either Nursing or Public health university or community college. I will b 23 by 2019. I intend using my 2011 waec, what are my chances, any advice will b taken
Thankz

I am afraid that your visa might be rejected again.
What justifiable reason will you give the visa officer for staying out of school since 2011? This question will definitely come unless by miracle
To increase your chances, get a bachelor's degree here in Nigeria and then go for your Masters in US.
Also be prepared to explain why your visa was rejected and why you are suddenly going for a student visa.

My visa just got issued after two weeks of AP but have not been told to pick up my passport.

My class started last week Monday and I must enter the class before the end of this week if I want to go for Fall 2018.

I'm just confused on what to do right now to avoid stories that touch at the point of entry.

What can I do?

NB: Going for PhD program

It's no big deal. Request for an extension letter from your school. You will present it together with your I-20 at POE. Safe journey ahead

Hello NL family,I guess it is time to upload my transcript,my visa wasn't approved on aug 24th. It was my first trial, date was initially on aug 15,2018 but was rescheduled to aug 24th. It was a cold n rainy morning. All aug 14,15,16,17,18,20,23,and 24th applicants were scheduled together to 24th,all 7am,7:30am,and 8am applicants were joined together. Queue was like that of judgement day queue....the one we usually see on jehovah witness books of people going to hell. My time was 7am and I came before that(abuja).
Was interviewed by a nice white guy in his mid-thirties or later than that at window 10. After praying silently not to be interviewed by a mean white skinny woman at window 6. I escaped her though.
Vo smiled and gave me a thumbs up to come quickly,I smiled back and came.
Vo: good mnin, you hear english right?
Me: yes,sure(surprised)
Vo: pass me ur documents(I did)
Vo: so you are going for an F1 visa?
Me:Yes
Vo:so.....where is the sch?
Me: st. Cloud(waited for a sec wondering if he meant state or city)
Vo: No,I mean state.
Me:minnesota
Vo: what are some of the courses you would be taking?
Me:physics,gen.Engr,maths,statistics,chemistry...basic chemistry(was chemistry really there).
Vosadnot bothered)so this sch is a 2 yr sch,right?
Me:no,4yrs....(see this mumu o,u wan fall me)
Vo: He asked again
Me: 4 yrs(i repeated)
Vo: sowhat does your sponsor do?
Me: he is a professional lawyer who owns a law firm...beside that,he has acres of lands in two diff locations he leases out to commercial farmers...he gets a lot of income from these(both law firm n these)
Vo:what percentage of your tuition will he be covering approximately cos ur sch fees is 29,00usd.
Me: about 60-70%
Vo: how much does ur statement read in usd?
Me: about 55,000usd
Vo: can you approximate how much he earns...like monthly?
Me: i cant be specific but I can assure you it runs into millions
vo: so u said u would be taking statistics, physics n basic chemistry in program?
Me: Yes(guy physics n statistics d dia bt chemistry got me confused)
Vo: why this course?
Mesadwaited for like a second for my memory to download)....I have this plan of setting up an ict firm somewhere in lagos or my state after my program... So with this course.....(he cut me short)
Vo: why the sch?
Me:[still recovering from all the abrupt cut n join interview....the guy no d wait make u hit am] as an ..*ABET*( I corrected and expanded the meaning),the engineering curricula at st.Cloud is so standardized at bachelors level and it ensures students(he cut me short again saying ok)
Vo: thank you....u can have your passport, nice time(put the pink paper in my passport, kept a kind of sorry face...like u almost made it).
Me: but where did I go......
Vo: the paper will tell u....feel free to reapply anytime
Reason for denial in pink paper: said I didnt prove I would be coming back to naija after my studies...That my intention for travelling wasnt clear so I appear as an intending immigrant.
BigFrancis, lagosismyhome, naughtyvirgin, nahum, freshstarz, walspring, roenix(my dear)......where did I go wrong Could it possibly be the chemistry I mentioned? But that is not home-tie.

Your first two response to the interview proper was a total turn off.
Where is your school is different from which school are you going to...
Secondly, you flopped when he asked you about the courses you will be taking. Your response was very poor and didn't show you are a genuine student. Physics, Chemistry and Statistics are not the courses you are going to take. Assuming you are going for Computer Science, Talk about Programming Languages, Internet Security, Database Management and Computer graphics as the courses you will offer.
When he asked why this course, talk about your career plan and how the course will be advantageous to you, above all maintain ties to your country at this point.
When he ask why the school, talk about your research plan or area of specialization, affordable tuition, scholarship (if applicable) and maybe the curriculum of the university. What makes the school unique to you. Talking about ABET doesn't make the school unique to you almost all American universities are accredited.

Nairaland / General / [must Read] Review Of Nnamdi Kanu’s Bail Conditions by kenzygist: 11:00am On Apr 26, 2017
The last three (3) conditions pose a riotous and terror attack on the fundamental rights of Nnamdi Kanu as reflected in Chapter 4 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Viz:
(1) His right to freedom of thought and religion as enshrined in SECTION 38 is adversely affected and impugned by virtue of the last conditions.

If Justice Binta Nyako orders that Nnamdi Kanu should not be in a gathering of more than ten (10) persons, it posits that he is invariably prevented from going to church and participating in other religious activities forming part of his fundamental rights.

2) His right to freedom of expression as protected by Section 39 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 is also unceremoniously violated by the order of the court, in that, the order implies that Nnamdi Kanu cannot express his opinion to the wider public in a matter directly affecting his person and cannot also communicate his horrible experiences in Nigeria’s slaughter slams called prison.

(3) His right to freedom of Assembly as guaranteed by Section 40 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is also breached by reason of the said condition. In that the condition most blatantly violates his right to participate in a lawful assembly which the constitution most jealously guards.

(4) His right to freedom of movement as protected by Section 41 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 is violated by the said condition as it is reflective of the condition that the right of Nnamdi Kanu in this respect has been injudiciously restricted by reason of the last three conditions.

If all these bail conditions should stand, it is better deduced that Nnamdi Kanu was denied bail and has been granted an access to his home to eat and sleep only, and without entertaining more than ten (10) of his relatives at each point in time.

This indeed is “adversus bonus moress” (against good morals). The only reasonable conclusion is that the grant of bail in this circumstance was exercised in total violation of another four rights which Nnamdi Kanu is entitled to.

As frivolous as the conditions contained in the written ruling may be, and which constitute the conditions precedent for the actual release of Nnamdi Kanu, it will be effortless met.

Nnamdi Kanu is a man of international repute and many dignitaries are willing to be accorded the honour of standing in for him in perfection of his bail conditions.

The great and favourable development is that Nnamdi Kanu has been granted bail basically on the ground of his health.

SECRET TRAIL:
On the second ruling of the court, the application to set aside the order for secret trial, the court refused the application and held that the prosecution witnesses that are security operatives shall testify on screen or masked.

On this, the defence counsel has confidently assured Biafrans around the world that efforts to conduct secret trial on Nnamdi Kanu’s case will be resisted and vehemently opposed.

Romance / 5 People Not Good Enough For Marriage by kenzygist: 11:50am On Apr 25, 2017
Do you hope to get married one day? Make sure you choose wisely. Picking the wrong mate could cause you a lifetime of emotional pain and even serious health problems. Here are five types of people you don’t want to marry.

1. The adult-child
The adult-child is an adult on the outside, but all child on the inside. This type of partner will consult his or her parents about every major decision and only turn to you as an afterthought. And don’t even think about saying anything less than complimentary about your partner’s parents. You’ll feel the wrath as he or she fiercely defends their honor.

You’ll have to walk on eggshells in order to keep the peace. Unless you want to play parent to your spouse the rest of your life, you should step away from this type of person.

Pastor and author Kevin A. Thompson said both partners must share responsibility in a relationship.

“Far too many people wanted to marry a partner, but instead, they married a child. Far too many people pledged to be a partner, but they are acting like a dependent … Marriage can be the most important and fulfilling relationship in a person’s life but it only happens when two people are equal partners. This doesn’t mean they do the same things or have the same skills. It does mean they are equally invested, equally involved, and equally
responsible,” Thompson said.

2. The checkout girl/guy
You’ll recognize the checkout guy or girl after a few months. When things are going well, everything is rainbows and unicorns. You couldn’t be happier.

However, once your relationship hits a rough patch, you don’t hear from him or her for days. Rather than attempting to work through problems, your partner will simply disappear.

This behavior will just continue to get worse after you get hitched. After you settle in and get into the routine of married life, your checkout guy or girl suddenly has nothing interesting to say or contribute.

Once the excitement of dating and engagement winds down, your partner just stops trying. Your spouse “checks out” of the relationship and lets you do the hardwork of keeping the relationship afloat. Your dinners are eaten in silence and you find that you have nothing in common anymore.

A successful marriage requires give and take. Psychologist John Gottman says its vital for couples to make a daily effort to renew their interest in each other. He refers to this process as “turning.”

Couples can either turn toward or away from each other. “Couples who engage in lots of such interaction tend to remain happy. What’s really occurring in these brief exchanges is that the husband and wife are connecting — they are human beings turning toward each other.

Couples who do so are building mutual trust. Those who don’t are likely to lose their way,” Gottman said.

3. The escape artist
This partner only desires marriage so he or she can escape another situation. It could be money trouble, loneliness, or some other hidden agenda.

Do your best to ask the right questions during your dates. The answers will clue you in on his or her intentions. Don’t get stuck with someone who is merely looking for a golden ticket.

Psychologist and marriage and family counselor Marie Hartwell-Walker said marriage should not be used as a means to resolve a bad circumstance.

“Marrying as a solution to painful circumstances almost never leads to a good and lasting marriage. Marriages that are a conscious or unconscious way out of a difficult situation don’t have the staying power that comes with mature love, shared values, and a commitment to the future by two mature adults,” Hartwell-Walker explained.

4. The volcano
Saying this person needs anger management is an understatement. A person with a volcanic temper will be set off by benign comments and swear you’re looking for ways to undermine his or her success. Pay attention to signs of anger issues while you’re dating.

Psychologist Steven Stonsy said angry people tend to have a sense of entitlement. “Resentful and angry people see themselves as merely reacting to an unfair world. They often feel offended by what they perceive as a general insensitivity to their ‘needs.’ As a result, they are likely to feel attacked by any attempt to point out the ways in which they are unfair, much less the effects of their behavior or others,” said Stonsy.

5. The player
This partner wasn’t ready to settle down before and still won’t be ready to settle down after the wedding. Move on before you get married and become the paranoid spouse, constantly looking for signs of cheating.

Life coach and infidelity expert Suzie Johnson said trust is key to having a satisfying union.

It’s a bad idea to marry someone you don’t trust. “All relationships are based on trust. If you don’t trust a person, you can’t be intimate with them. If they don’t trust you, they can’t be intimate with you. So, if you’re in a relationship where there’s no trust, then you have no relationship.

What you have is more of an acquaintanceship — two people going through the motions of a relationship but without the real emotions of a relationship. Like love, trust is a gift,” said Johnson.

Health / Reasons Why You Need Adequate Sleep by kenzygist: 1:44pm On Apr 22, 2017
We all cut back on sleeping time probably due to countless deadlines, busy schedules and unresolved issues. Sometimes we feel that one extra hour of sleep is too much luxury. Do you know that sleeping does more good to your body than you think.

The quality of your sleep directly affects the quality of your waking life, including your mental sharpness, productivity, emotional balance, creativity, physical vitality, and even your weight. No other activity delivers so many benefits with so little effort.

If you’ve not been getting enough sleep, I will be sharing reasons why you must increase your sleeping hours.
SLEEP HELPS KEEP YOUR FIGURE
Watching your weight can be as simple as getting a good night’s sleep. Lack of sleep can make you put on weight by drastically slowing your metabolism down.

SLEEP HELPS YOU CONCENTRATE BETTER
We have all woken up after a good night’s sleep ready to take on the world. A bad night’s sleep can leave you struggling all day. More than half of us will have problems concentrating after sleeping badly.

SLEEP MAKES YOU TO BE IN A GREAT MOOD
Nearly two thirds of people blame lack of sleep when they feel irritable. The lack of sleep and the ensuing tiredness makes people dodge from social interaction because they feel emotionally drained which negatively impacts their judgement, problem-solving skill and creativity.

YOU’LL LOOK MORE ATTRACTIVE
Tiredness which is one of the results of sleep depravity makes people look older than they really are. This is because when we sleep, the body system energises, repairs and refreshes itself. Regular shut-eye actually makes you look healthier and more attractive... Click here to continue reading: https://kenzygist.com/2017/04/22/reasons-need-adequate-sleep/
Sports / Ibrahimovic Out Until January Following Knee Ligament Damage by kenzygist: 7:58am On Apr 22, 2017
Manchester United forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic has suffered serious ligament damage in his right knee and will likely be sidelined until at least January 2018, sources have told ESPN FC.

The 35-year-old underwent scans in Manchester on Friday after sustaining the injury during United’s Europa League quarterfinal victory against Anderlecht at Old Trafford on Thursday.

The initial fears of manager Jose Mourinho and the club’s medical staff have been confirmed.

Gianluca Di Marzio earlier reported that the Swedish striker suffered damage to his cruciate ligament.

The prognosis for Ibrahimovic, who has scored 28 goals in 46 appearances for United since arriving on a free transfer from Paris Saint-Germain last summer, is surgery followed by a programme of rehabilitation. However, Ibrahimovic is not expected to return to action this year.

The injury has placed doubt over his club future; his United contract is due to expire at the end of this season.

Mourinho has said that Ibrahimovic has passed all of his performance-related criteria to trigger a one-year option in his contract, but the forward has so far not committed to a new deal at the club.

Ibrahimovic has also played for Juventus, Ajax, Inter Milan, PSG and Barcelona.

Sources at Old Trafford have been unable to confirm to ESPN FC whether United are now under an obligation to give Ibrahimovic the extended contract after his injury.

Ibrahimovic had been the subject of interest from MLS clubs LA Galaxy and LA FC, the latter of which will launch in March 2018, but his spell on the sidelines has cast uncertainty over a potential move to the United States.

Sports / Barcelona Takes Appeal Against Neymar’s Red Card To CAS by kenzygist: 7:34am On Apr 22, 2017
The Brazilian was hit with an extended suspension after being red carded against Malaga and subsequently sarcastically clapping the match officials as he left the field.

Barcelona are continuing their battle to get Neymar ‘s three-match ban overturned by taking their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The Brazilian was hit with an extended suspension after being red carded against Malaga and subsequently sarcastically clapping the match officials as he left the field.

The ban, of which he has already served one game, will see him miss the clasico with Real Madrid on Sunday as well as the upcoming La Liga encounter with Osasuna.

But despite having their initial appeal turned down by the league the club haven’t given up on having one of their star men available at the Bernabeu on Sunday.

A statement on Barcelona’s website read: “With the Appeal Committee dismissing FC Barcelona’s appeal for the three-match suspension of Neymar Jr, the Club will appeal the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

“It should be reminded that the referee showed the Brazilian two yellow cards against Málaga.

“According to the referee’s report produced by Gil Manzano, Neymar received the first card for ‘not respecting the regulated distance before a free-kick, after being warned in advance’.

“For the second yellow, he was sanctioned for ‘bringing down an opponent when disputing for the ball’.

“And, in addition, he also wrote that Neymar ‘after being sent off and when he was heading to the tunnel, he went towards the fourth official and applauded him’.”

Sports / Argentina In Danger Of Missing World Cup by kenzygist: 7:15pm On Mar 23, 2017
With just six rounds of fixtures to go in the South American section for qualification for the 2018 World Cup, every game is now crucial.

The top four teams will qualify for Russia, and the fifth-placed team will advance to the inter-confederation play-offs. Brazil - unbeaten in their last 11 qualifying games - are four points clear at the top, but there is an intriguing chase going on behind them with just five points covering the next five teams.

Among those struggling to keep pace with Brazil are 2014 World Cup runners-up Argentina, who face a nervy four games in order to cement their place in Russia. Here's the state of play and what to look out for...

All eyes will be on Buenos Aires on Thursday evening, as two South American heavyweights clash in a game of huge importance.

Chile, in fourth, take on Argentina, in fifth, and just one point separates them. A win for either team could prove pivotal - but the damage done by a defeat surely outweighs victory. This looks a must-not-lose for both teams, especially with Colombia in sixth having a very winnable home fixture against Bolivia.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger declared Alexis Sanchez's ankle in "a terrible state" after a damaging defeat to West Brom, but the forward has taken part in training and seems determined to feature, writing on Instagram: "The only failure is not to try".

Argentina's next game, five days after the Chile fixture, is a daunting trip to the high altitude surroundings in Bolivia, which could prove problematic, especially if they get a negative result on Thursday.

What's wrong with Argentina?

Argentina coach Edgardo Bauza says he's imagined Lionel Messi holding the World Cup aloft in Russia - well perhaps the coach has been doing too much daydreaming as Argentina's qualification campaign has been a mess.

Bauza has coached Argentina for four games since replacing Gerardo Martino after the Copa America in the United States, but home defeats to Ecuador and Paraguay and draws against Venezuela and Peru, added to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to great rivals Brazil, have left one of the world's most iconic teams with questions to answer.

A 3-0 home victory over Colombia in their most recent fixture was a welcome boost, but they still remain outside the automatic berths with tricky away trips against Bolivia and Uruguay still to come.

A return of just 14 goals from a side that includes the likes of Messi, Sergio Aguero and Angel Di Maria has drawn criticism, as Bauza has struggled to find a style of play that suits his star men. Of course, there is still plenty of football to be played - but at this stage, Argentina are well off the level set by Brazil.

Bauza has remained defiant, though, telling FIFA.com: "All I'm focusing on is setting up the team to be champions. There's always been rivalry with Chile but we need to boil it down to this one game, which is an important one against a direct rival. The only thing that should be in our minds is that if we beat them, we overtake them. I feel like a winner, I feel like I am going to win."

It’ll help you save time and money in the long run. Block out some time, then sit down and consider your goals and needs. Do you want to lose weight? Cut back on sugar, fat, or carbs? Add protein or vitamins? Meal prep keeps you in control. You know what you’re eating and when. A bonus: It’ll be that much easier to skip those doughnuts in the break-room at work.

DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
It can do so many good things for you. Staying hydrated is at the top of the list, but it may also help you lose weight. Another reason to go for water? Sugary drinks are linked to obesity and type 2 diabetes. If you aren’t a fan of plain water, add flavor with slices of orange, lemon, lime, watermelon, or cucumber.

TAKE AN EXERCISE BREAK
Don’t just grab another cup of coffee — get up and move. Do some deep lunges or stretches. It’s great for your body and mind. Just 30 minutes of walking five times a week may help keep the blues at bay. And if you can’t do those minutes all at once, short bursts help, too.

LEARN SOMETHING NEW
New skills help keep your brain healthy. Sign up for a dance class or a creative writing workshop. Better yet, master a new language. The mental work it takes can slow the signs of aging and may even delay the effects of Alzheimer’s disease.

DON’T SMOKE
If you light up, quit. It’s a big move toward better health. Your body repairs itself quickly. As soon as 20 minutes after your last cigarette, your heart rate and blood pressure drop. Why wait? Kick the habit, today. Your doctor will be happy to help you get started...

NYSC / Corp Member Turns Her NYSC Uniform To This (photo) by kenzygist: 2:05pm On Mar 22, 2017
An unidentified corp member decided to recreate her NYSC uniform by turning her khaki to a bum short. The young lady apparently wanted something that will make her slay while giving it all away.
Her expression when she posed to take this picture will make you wonder if she is trying to pass any significant message across to the government. Recent trends show that youths seem to be more interested in changing the uniform than in impacting in the lives of the people in their PPAs.

With the activities of corp members around us, one would agree that the lyrics of the NYSC anthem is not firmly rooted in the hearts of the serving members.

The service year used to be looked forward to by most people in Nigeria then, it is pathetic that the activities of some youths will make the scheme lose its glory.

This young lady might have posted this picture to get some kind of assessment from people. Did she kill it or should she be punished for it? This would not be the first time the khaki would be turned into something else; if it is not some skirt, it would be some bum short.
