Floky215: Since you've referred to fellow humans as "vermin", I guess no need for further discussing the matter. Kind regards. |

Floky215: Terms like "you people" is somewhat indecent for mutual public discuss as It'll only block our chances of at least hearing each other out. Let me clear you on some of the matters you raised above: 1) Egypt once lost a terrible war with Israel & its govt has been a US dependent since then. Their blockade of the Raffa crossing is in tandem with the Israelis for their own good. This border isn't accessible to Palestinians just like the ones with Israel. 2) The Mediterranean coast. Israel also blockades this. The coastal waters permitted for fishing only is also very limited to the coast. No Ocean going vessel can land in Gaza. Gaza is not allowed to import 10 liters of petrol on its own. Everything comes from Israel in whatever quantity Israel does fit. Like I said earlier, we can debate forever about Hamas or the Israeli govt being terrorists or not, but fact remains that there is serious humanitarian crisis happening right before our eyes. May we not normalize the uprooting of an entire people from their homeland because we hate them. |

justking: Permit my small contribution and I hope that it clears the air on major confusion that the sentence you quoted seem to carry. "...since the TERROR GROUP's takeover...in 2007" is obviously a fallacy. 1) Hamas took over governance of Gaza in 2006. 2) Hamas' "take over" was via winning a free & fair democratic election. Most folks here don't know this. The moment Hamas won that election, the US & Israel immediately declared them a terror organisation & Israel promptly blockaded Gaza ever since. Has the actions of Hamas since then amount to terrorism? Has Israel's actions been any better? These can be discussed with the knowledge that Israel has killed, maimed & imprisoned far more Palestinians than Hamas has done to Israelis till date. Presently, Hamas is holding over 200 innocent Israeli civilians hostage for a month, meanwhile, Israel has also been holding over 4,000 Palestinian civilians imprisoned without trial for months. What I see is that many Nigerians hold firm religion-influenced opinions on this matter without bothering to look at the vivid humanitarian crisis right in front of them. We cannot normalize ethnic cleansing of a group of people, no matter how much we dislike them. 1 Like |

The best foot forward to improving the situation of local car assemblers in Nigeria is to target the middle-income earning private/public sector workers with a credit scheme. This is something that white goods / FMCG manufacturers/traders have done successfully in the past and are still doing, especially with bankers. A three to five years tenured credit purchase, with reasonable upfront contribution, can be a good deal to attract buyers. Additional value can be generous aftersales support for servicing & parts replacement . |

A well paying job is actually quite relative as what is well paying for me may be low paying for Cuppy Otedola and be a stuff of dreams for Jinadu, the bricklayer apprentice! I'd rather consider a side definition of a well paying job as any one with a salary range that can get you out of poverty and into the lower middle income bracket. Now, we must consider 3 additional items herr:; location, marital status & social condition. I make a small assumption here to accommodate the items above - 35yrs old male, based in low end of Lagos, married with 2 young kids, not very social and quite churchy. Let's go. Your main lines of expenses, as a family unit, will be: Accommodation (Rent) - N400k Food & Groceries - N380k Educational fees - N520k Subscriptions (data, tv, etc) - N210k Fuel (car & generator) - N290k General purchases - N500k Medical care - N220k Replacement & Repairs - N150k Entertainment - N50k Give aways (family etc) - N50k Tithe, Offerings, Zakat etc. - N170k Miscellaneous - N100k Long term savings - 100k Short term savings - 40k TOTAL - N3,180,000.00 (three million, one hundred and eighty thousand naira only). The above is all the family requires for a year to live a fairly decent lower middle income life above poverty rate in Lagos boroughs like Iju, Ipaja, Epe, etc. If only the man works, a net monthly salary of N270k should serve them. If both parents work, anything above N130k each should do. From this point on, the availability of career growth with possibility of income rise will make the job resemble something you can call a well paying job. 26 Likes 6 Shares |

Ladyhippolyta88: Good to see you disregarding the experience of menfolk while campaigning hard for recognition of the female experience. You don't want equality, no! What you seek is a feminazi world of female conquest! |

ChizzyBuna: Truth is that once villainy becomes big business, every bad fellow jumps aboard! If Turji's camp consume $1million worth of methamphetamine a month! A drug Baron (be his name Okoro, Osaro or Omolade) will do the deal without care about ideology! |

Ladyhippolyta88: Many men with this your mindset idea of being 100% open to their wives and planning everything together in the home have ended up being scolded by their friends in the "I told you so" manner, when the proverbial brown matter hits the oscillator!!! It's a learned behaviour for Nigerian men to run their game their way, not with the many tragic experiences of male folks who tried to run an equal and open home with the typical Nigerian woman. |

BigRocky: The English, Welsh, Scots and Irish have nothing in common until forced Union under the Windsor crown! Sicily, Tuscany, Venice, Florence etc had nothing in common until Garibaldi united them all as Italy! Bavarians, Prussians and Westphalians were warring enemies until Bismarck tied them all up as Germany! No nation on Earth was created in heaven to consist of same people with absolutely no differences. Every existing nation today is a product of circumstances. Nigeria is Nigeria, deal with it. Life is short and most of us will never see our 90th birthday. Why not make the best of what we have rather than bicker and fight till we throw away our 2 minutes of existence on this planet! 10 Likes |

GodIsBiafran: Never disagreed with you. However, in order not to become a bigot, one need to try to learn about a subject on which one professes to hold such strong opinion. |

12rev: Incidentally, @GodIsBiafran is right and your own ignorance of the subject shows through. I do not know what part of Nigeria you're from but where I come from, we weren't killing twins nor were we murdering albinos. Much as I know, in most parts of Africa, twin birth was seen as a great blessing to be celebrated. So, no, Christian missionaries didn't save twins in Africa! They only did so among one small ethnic group at the mouth of the Niger delta. This cannot be generalized over the rest of a big continent. Yes, many aspects of religion across Africa had morbid issues. But what major religion today didn't have it's origin in madness if we judge them by today's standards. As societies civilize, their religions clean up with them. This happened across Asia, in China and India in particular and would have happened in Africa if we didn't surpplant our religions with the Abrahamic imports of Christianity and Islam. 3 Likes 1 Share |

GodIsBiafran: Read a book or something now! Uthman Dan Fodio DID NOT introduce islam to the Hausa or the Fulani people. Before his great grand father was even dreamt to be born, people in those areas have been practicing Islam for centuries! It's ok to have sentiments but at least back it up with some knowledge. |

I do showers, taps and water in a bucket and that's about it! You can't find a bathtub or jacuzzi in my house, no matter how stupendous my wealth ever become. Forget a swimming pool side backyard, it will never EVER happen with me! Organize a beach side hang out? Never ever! The few I have been invited to, by force, I stay many many meters from the beach head! Rivers? Never ever been near one! To all you Michael Phelps out there, you can swim all you want but you must remember to 100% protect your children from the risk inherent in water bodies. |

AntiChristian: A simple Google search brought me this: https://abdurrahman.org/2018/05/13/the-meaning-of-laa-ilaaha-illallaah-and-its-explanation-from-the-quran/amp/ Allah is God of the Bible translations of Islamized languages and I have to you why. Left for you to accept knowledge or continue in error. |
![]() |
AntiChristian: "Ilaaha" is not a standard Arabic word for God in as much as God means God in English or like other denonyms for God in other languages. Ilaaha is an Arabic term roughly meaning "negation of worship of anything else". Hence the refrain, Laa ilaaha illAllaah, only refers "none worthy of worship except Allaah. The only word for God in Arabic and heavily Islamized cultures is Allah. Hence Christian Bible translations in Arabic, Malay, Hausa, Urdu, Berber languages etc all render God as Allah while some go further to refer to Jesus as Issa! |

Ekrebx007: You don't understand the geopolitics of oil. Iran has robust refining capacity yet nobody buys products from them because America said don't. Once upon a time, Russian D2 diesel was banned in Nigeria, ostensibly for not meeting standard! If Nigeria decides not to sell crude anymore and scales her refining capacity to switch export to products only...our number 1 & 2 buyers, India and China may switch to other sellers as they have there own refining capacity and don't wish to buy products when they can lift crude for local refining. That's you loosing the guys that guarantee 60% of your crude sales! Also, you will need to invest in huge storage capacity (mostly underground artificial cisterns, overground tankfarms and offshore super tankers). Believe me, our next 15yrs budget can't even fund these. Also, you'd be needing the technology of the same Chinese and Indians you plan to undercut, to achieve this project. You won't get it. Forget the Europeans and Americans, they won't even listen to you unless maybe you pay upfront. Koko is, it is a very long term project, even if we can somehow achieve the dream. And I don't see how democratic admins with 4yrs shelf life and needing projects to campaign for next elections with will have the political will to invest HEAVILY in decade long projects like above. 2 Likes |

treesun: Nigeria cannot invest in renewable energies. Let's not kid ourselves too much. Where is the research program here that can match all of the effort that has been put into this in more developed economies? Crude oil, while it hasn't benefited this country as much as hoped for, is the reason why Nigeria is different from many African dead ends like Togo, Liberia or Guinea. And crude oil will remain relevant for the next 50 to 70yrs despite rapid development in non-fosil fuel tech. Therefore, I really don't see how it's a bad idea if we pursue efforts to locate oil in the Chad basin. After all, the French found oil in Niger and in Chad itself! Yes, I understand the petty politics of ethnicity and geography that bedevil the Nigerian mind. Still, some of us have to see the bigger picture and stay above the idiocy of wishing failure on ourselves. Let's have oil in the Chad basin and it may turn out to be the balancing act we needed since the 60s to stabilize Nigeria's so-called "political equation". 1 Like |

funshint: Fairly well, but outside the usual inter-ethnic bragging rights here on Nairaland, all parts of Nigeria have a LONG way to go to create the type of human capital required to create a top class economy. 1 Like 1 Share |

funshint: Incidentally, all of these "blessings" are near useless without the main blessing...human capital! This has been the bane of Africa in the last two centuries in particular, and this is the shortcoming we need to overcome with deliberate policy, proper planning and hard work. 4 Likes |

WibusJaga: Come on, be fair and don't mock our own who are already toiling hard under tough conditions just like we all are doing in a poor economy like ours. Even in Spain, as rich as that country is, there are clubs in the same La Liga who can't even dare to dream of Real Madrid's standards. When you then go further down their football pyramid to maybe Liga Quattro (which could be equivalent to our own pro-League here) you'd not be too surprised that their players can't even afford to exchange jerseys post-match! It will be nice to see how Osasuna travel, before we get to Gombe's. 2 Likes |

Koralords: People die frequently in America due to accidents with trucks and no American trucking company has folded for such reasons. Also, note that the reporter wasn't specific with the identity of the truck. It could be a truck belonging to any of the Dangote Group companies, or to a franchise or distributor using the Dangote insignia or even to a totally unrelated company who only acquired their truck from the Nigeria truck maker, Dangote Sinotruk!!! 1 Like |

WetinUGain: Our railway system is still essentially the way the British colonial government left it. The system was simply a north-to-south system for freighting agricultural produce ad mineral resources from the hinterland to the port for onward shipment to the UK. It wasn't exactly meant to ease transportation for the natives...that was only a fall out of the existence of the railway. This is why our main trunk till tomorrow are Kano-Lagos and Maiduguri-Port Harcourt. All of the railway projects in recent times, since the days of Jonathan till Buhari have been based on the existing system. Nigeria has not designated a new rail line since 1957! So yes, Lagos-Benin-Onitsha-Aba-PH looks like a good deal on paper, but the truth is that this country doesn't have the funds for such project and would really have to suck up big time to a major wealthy nation to source loans for such project. Now if you run China, won't you be wary to fund such project in Nigeria seeing all of the insecurity and risk to ROI? 2 Likes |

AntiChristian: In historically muslim societies, Allah isn't just the name of a god of a particular religion. Allah is a denonym that is used to mean the deity, just like the word "God" in the English realm. In cultures like Malay, Indochinese, Hausa, Arabic etc with strong Islamic influence, there are no other local words to describe God other than Allah. Be such God the Muslim, Christian or Buddhist one. It always comes across as weird to typical African and European visitors to Malaysian churches when prayers come constantly rendered in the name of Isa who sits on the right hand side of Allah!!! See, in my conclusion, as an atheist, ALL religious constructs are man made. |
