President Tinubu, one year into office: An Evaluation by JM OWOLABI (@omobabaijebu101)

With little to no anticipation for this administration upon assuming office, it's unsurprising that their performance has been lackluster, exacerbating the pains and suffering of Nigerians.

To clarify, the Tinubu administration campaigned on a platform of renewed hope, akin to the hope shattered by the previous ruling party under former President Muhammadu Buhari, leaving Nigerians questioning whether this is indeed a renewal of hope or a resurgence of hopelessness.

Under President Tinubu's watch, inflation, unemployment, and the cost of goods and services have reached all-time highs in our country. The first four years of his tenure have witnessed an unprecedented number of political appointments, prompting one to question whether the presidency's primary function is to reward cronies and election riggers with positions of power.

It has been a year, yet we cannot identify any significant projects or policies from the government. The hardships endured by Nigerians have only intensified, making it imperative for President Tinubu to awaken from his slumber. The electioneering period is over; it's time to roll up his sleeves and get to work if he genuinely desires to see Nigerians take to the streets in support.

President Tinubu must prioritize a series of reforms aimed at addressing the pressing issues facing Nigeria. Firstly, an overhaul of the economic policies is imperative to tackle inflation and unemployment. This could involve implementing targeted stimulus packages for key sectors, fostering a conducive environment for business growth, and promoting entrepreneurship.

There should be a concerted effort to curb corruption and promote transparency in governance. This entails strengthening anti-corruption agencies, enforcing accountability measures, and fostering a culture of integrity within the government.

Investments in critical infrastructure projects are essential to spur economic development and improve the standard of living for Nigerians. This includes upgrading transportation networks, expanding access to electricity and clean water, and investing in healthcare and education facilities.

President Tinubu should also prioritize social welfare programs to alleviate the plight of the most vulnerable segments of society. This could involve expanding access to healthcare and education, providing social safety nets for the unemployed, and addressing the housing shortage.

By prioritizing economic revitalization, anti-corruption efforts, infrastructure development, social welfare, and national unity, his administration can chart a path towards a brighter future for all Nigerians.
Education / Nans Condemns The Brutal Attack On Kwasu Students By Men Of The Efcc, Ndlea by Laspotect247(m): 9:21pm On Feb 23
NANS Condemns the Brutal Attack on KWASU Students by Men of the EFCC, NDLEA and NPF; Calls for Justice.

The national body of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) expresses profound dismay and unequivocally condemns the reprehensible and brutal attack unleashed upon the students of Kwara State University, (KWASU) Malete, by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) during midnights operations on Tuesday 20th February, 2024 and Thursday 21st February 2024 respectively.

In direct contravention of the clear directive from the Chairman of EFCC prohibiting midnight operations, The men of EFCC Kwara State command went ahead to carry out an illegal operation in the KWASU students community on the night of Tuesday, 20th February 2024 arrested students and questioned the sources of their wealth without due invitation or following the laid down principle for such operation. It is commendable that the students of the institution valiantly opposed the unauthorized intrusion into their academic environment at the odd hours of the night.

Regrettably, the security operatives (EFCC , NDLEA and NPF) responded and revisited with excessive force, resorting to the deployment of teargas and live ammunition, reportedly resulting in leaving the students with severe injuries.

The NANS National body, while appreciating the doggedness of the school’s students’ union, the audacity of the Kwara JCC categorically condemns this flagrant violation of the fundamental rights of students and demands immediate and resolute action from the authorities concerned. We hereby articulate our comprehensive demands as follow;

1. *Independent Investigation:* We call for an impartial and transparent investigation into the incident, ensuring the full cooperation of all involved agencies and guaranteeing the thorough examination of the circumstances surrounding the brutal attack.

2. *Identification and sanctions of Officers:* We demand the prompt disclosure of the identities of the officers involved in the ill-fated operation to facilitate accountability, necessary disciplinary actions and serve as a deterrent against future transgressions.

3. *Compensation and Medical Support:* Immediate and adequate compensation must be provided to the families of the deceased students, and comprehensive medical support should be extended to those who sustained injuries during the reprehensible attack.

4. *Adherence to Ban on Midnight Operations:* We emphasize the need for strict compliance with the directive from the EFCC Chairman, who prohibited midnight operations. Any deviation from this directive should be met with severe disciplinary measures, else the students will result to jungle justice of treating them as criminals henceforth.

NANS National underscores the urgency of addressing these demands and we are issuing a 48 hour ultimatum for our demands to be addressed. We also call on the relevant authorities to act swiftly and decisively. We insist on justice for the victims and accountability for the perpetrators. NANS National will not shiver in its commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of Nigerian students.

We implore all concerned stakeholders, including human rights organizations, civil society, and the media, to stand in solidarity with us as we seek justice and redress for the victims of this heinous act.

*Signed,*

*From Kuje With Love: A Farewell to Hon Edison Ehie by omobabaijebu*

Dear Honorable Edison Ehie,

Greetings from the newly dubbed "Ehie Estate" in Kuje! Yes, the rumors are true – you're officially going to become a resident of Abuja's most exclusive address, Kuje Prison. I thought it's only fair that I pen this love letter to commemorate your relocation.

Now, I must say, it's a bit disheartening to learn about your alleged involvement in turning the State Assembly quarters into a bonfire. Burning down buildings for political reasons? That's some next-level insubordination! It seems your relationship status with the Assembly House and the good people of Rivers State just went from "It's complicated" to "We need some space."

When the news broke, many were playing detective, pointing fingers in your direction. I refrained, thinking, "Nah, not Honorable Edison," but alas, the rumor mill won this round. The burning question on everyone's mind (pun intended): Was it a power tussle? Do you harbor a deep-seated dislike for the speaker? Or perhaps you accidentally misplaced your respect for the people of Rivers State? The plot thickens!

But fear not, dear Honorable, for your recent promotion to Chief of Staff has shed light on the situation. Who knew arsonists could climb the career ladder so swiftly? Congratulations on the promotion – quite the reward for a fiery performance! It seems you were the pawn in a grand chess game to undermine the Assembly and the good folks of Rivers State. Checkmate!

Now, let's talk about your new digs – Kuje Prison. Consider it an upgrade! You'll enjoy the serene surroundings, learn to be a model citizen, and, who knows, maybe even discover a hidden talent for pottery or basket weaving. It's the ultimate correctional center experience, tailor-made for someone of your unique qualifications.

As you settle into your new abode, remember, you're not alone in the Kuje VIP club. You're now rubbing shoulders with the likes of Femi Fani-Kayode, Oliseh Metuh, Nnamdi Kanu, and other distinguished personalities. Welcome to the elite league of those who've had the pleasure of calling Kuje home.

Wishing you all the best in this new chapter of your life, dear Honorable Edison Ehie. May your time in Kuje be as memorable as your political career!

With laughter and best regards,

*Ébi Pan Wá: by omobabaijebu*

Ébi pan wá, a phrase echoing the collective sentiment of hungry Nigerians, has become more than just words—it encapsulates the prevailing hunger crisis in the nation. This poignant expression emerged during the president's visit to Lagos, symbolizing a populace disillusioned and losing faith in the government's ability to address their basic needs.

In the intricate tapestry of Nigeria's history, hunger has been a persistent thread, but the current administration seems to have woven it into a more intricate pattern of despair. What started as a government riding the wave of renewed hope has, unfortunately, transformed into a symbol of hopelessness for many citizens.

The economic impact has been felt deeply; prices of goods and services have soared, rendering basic necessities unaffordable for a significant portion of the population. The daily struggle to put food on the table has become more challenging, overshadowed by a bleak outlook with no visible signs of relief.

As the hunger persists, the nation echoes the frustration of the youth who assert, "this one no be memes." It's a stark reminder that the hunger crisis is not a social media trend or a passing meme—it's a harsh reality that demands urgent attention and meaningful solutions.

In navigating these hunger pangs, it's crucial for both the government and the citizens to engage in a constructive dialogue, fostering an environment where the needs of the people are not just acknowledged but actively addressed. Ébi pan wá is a call to action, a plea for a brighter future where the collective hunger for progress is satiated, and the promise of a better Nigeria becomes a reality.

Education / NANS President Felicitates With Nigerian Students On The New Year And Calls For by Laspotect247(m): 4:23pm On Jan 01
NEW YEAR ADDRESS:

NANS President Felicitates with Nigerian Students on the New Year and Calls for a Renewed Focus on Education and Security.

Abuja, 30/12/2023.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) extends warm greetings and heartfelt felicitations to all Nigerian students, both at home and in Diaspora, on the occasion of the New Year. As we usher in 2024, we reflect on the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, particularly in the educational sector.

The year 2023 was marred by incessant increments in school fees across our tertiary institutions. This unwarranted burden placed on students and their families has hindered access to education and threatened the future of many promising young minds. NANS strongly condemns this trend and calls on the Federal Government to urgently address the issue by convening an Education Summit.

The purpose of the Education Summit is to review the state of education in previous years, assess where we were, where we are currently and where we should be in the future, and chart a course for the future. By bringing together stakeholders from various sectors, we can identify the gaps in our educational system and develop strategies to bridge them. NANS urges the Federal Government to prioritize investment in the educational sector, as this will not only enhance the quality of education but also contribute to the growth of our economy.

Investments in education have a multiplier effect, as when we massively invest in the education sector, it has the potential to attract foreign students to our institutions. When our education system is robust and internationally appealing, more students from abroad will choose to study in Nigeria, thereby bringing in foreign exchange and leading to an increased foreign reserved. This influx of foreign students will not only enrich our cultural diversity but also boost our economy and contribute to a stronger nation. We have the strategies mapped out, ours is to present same to the government at all level for implementation.

In addition to addressing the financial challenges faced by students, the issue of campus security cannot be overlooked. NANS emphasizes the need for enhanced security measures to protect the lives and property of students. It is disheartening to witness the recurring incidents of kidnappings by bandits and terrorists, violence, cultism, and other criminal activities within our institutions, this must urgently come to a stop. NANS calls on relevant authorities at all levels to prioritize the security of our campuses and ensure a safe learning environment for all students.

As we embark on this new year, NANS remains committed to advocating for the rights and welfare of Nigerian students. We will continue to engage with government agencies, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to ensure that the educational sector receives the attention it deserves.

NANS wishes all Nigerian students a prosperous and successful year ahead. Let us seize this opportunity to work together, overcome challenges, and build a stronger educational system that will shape the future of our great nation.

Politics / The Aftermath Of 20.10.2020: Government, Activists, And A Nation In Turmoil by Laspotect247(m): 11:38am On Oct 20, 2023
The Aftermath of 20.10.2020: Government, Activists, and a Nation in Turmoil - by JM OWOLABI (Omobabaijebu)

Exactly three years ago, on this fateful day in 2020, our beloved Nigeria bore witness to the tragic loss of young lives across the nation, with the epicenter of sorrow residing in Lagos state. Here, exuberant army officers unleashed their weapons upon unarmed protesters, resulting in a dreadful toll of death, injury, and the loss of countless breadwinners. Paradoxically, from the ashes of this tragedy emerged a new breed of emergency activists, using this dire situation to fuel their rise to prominence.

In the wake of this tragedy, the government and its leaders failed to acknowledge their complicity in this mass murder. Instead, they engaged in a bewildering dance of evasion and finger-pointing. Can we blame the people for demanding a better life, for insisting that the pervasive intimidation and oppression at the hands of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) must cease?

Three years have elapsed, and what tangible measures have the government undertaken to ensure the safety of its citizens? Regrettably, very little. Tear gas still fills the air when groups of young individuals gather to voice their concerns about the societal ills plaguing our nation.

Moreover, for these grieving families, there exists no avenue to lay their loved ones to rest, nor any collective mourning for the victims. The government's silence speaks volumes – it is an implicit admission of guilt. They bear the responsibility for the death of innocent Nigerians, and it is high time they acknowledge it.

The End SARS movement also inadvertently ushered in a new era of emergency activists, individuals who claim to love Nigeria more than anyone else. For them, the metrics of success became Twitter statistics and personal gain from generous international donations. Many of these activists have since left the country, transforming their role from advocates for change to opportunists capitalizing on tragedy.

This grim reality reflects the pervasive nature of oppression in our society, where every individual harbors the potential to oppress others. Even the leaders of today, who once fought for freedom, have, upon seizing power, too often become worse than those they once criticized.

In this dark chapter of our history, the government, military officers, and emergency activists share a collective stain of blood on their hands. It is my fervent hope that they confront this stark reality and take the necessary actions to heal a nation scarred by tragedy.

In the memory of the departed, may their souls rest in eternal p
Politics / PEPT VERDICT: A Call For Government Accountability by Laspotect247(m): 10:38pm On Sep 06, 2023
PEPT VERDICT: A Call for Government Accountability

In the aftermath of the 2023 general election, I reached out to my erudite legal colleague to discuss the prospects of resorting to legal action. To my astonishment, he emphatically expressed his profound distrust in our judiciary, even as a seasoned lawyer himself.

The conundrum plaguing the Nigerian judiciary lies in its propensity to accentuate weaknesses, thereby providing a foothold to assail the merits of a petition. Our judicial institution is profoundly fragmented, such that if you were to present 40 identical cases, you would receive disparate verdicts. Regrettably, judgments often hinge on the personalities involved rather than the inherent substance of the cases.

As an illustrative example, consider the paradox where one individual receives a death sentence for pilfering a mere 5 naira, while another is awarded a paltry 30 naira as compensation for a similar 5 naira theft. Perplexed, the petitioner inquires, "Why am I being subjected to such a draconian sentence for an identical offense?" The response from the judge is disheartening: "This is how our system operates, I'm afraid."

In my view, pursuing legal remedies all the way to the Supreme Court proves futile. Instead, our focus must shift towards holding the government accountable. It necessitates unity and preparation for the 2027 general election.

Hope remains undiminished; the majority has been deprived, and the majority has faltered in uniting to claim what is rightfully theirs. With our collective loss, it is now imperative that we embrace one another and wage a collective battle against the opportunists who are holding our nation hostage.

Participation in opposition politics is indeed formidable, but we must be willing to engage in the gritty aspects. Let us not forget the sacrifices made. Rather than allowing these judgments to weaken us, let them fortify our resolve. We may not have prevailed today, but if we persist in our struggle, we can one day redeem this nation.

Politics / Tinubu's Qualifications Under Scrutiny: The Alarming Case Of Certificate Forgery by Laspotect247(m): 7:46am On Sep 01, 2023
*"Tinubu's Qualifications Under Scrutiny: The Alarming Case of Certificate Forgery"*

By omobabaijebu

In a concerning turn of events, Bola Tinubu's qualifications have come under intense scrutiny, raising significant doubts about his credibility. Back in 1999, he claimed to have attended a primary school in Lagos and a secondary school in Ibadan. However, investigations have revealed that these claims are patently false. Pa. Ikide, a former student of the secondary school in Ibadan during that period, took to Twitter to assert that he had no knowledge of any Bola Tinubu attending the school.

Currently, Atiku Abubakar has taken the matter to court, challenging Tinubu's purported attendance at Chicago State University, which has prompted a flurry of questions. Surprisingly, there seems to be a conspicuous absence of any students or friends from Tinubu's supposed time at the university who can vouch for his credentials. The absence of photographs or yearbooks further casts doubt on his claims.

This certificate forgery issue underscores a troubling nonchalant attitude towards honesty and integrity, or perhaps it reflects a systemic problem in Nigeria where individuals can evade accountability for such deceit. It is worth noting that had Tinubu addressed these concerns in 2007 when he left the position of governor of Lagos, he could have taken steps to rectify any discrepancies by enrolling in further education or pursuing additional exams. Instead, his failure to do so has led to the current spectacle of dishonesty and mistrust.

While one may argue that Tinubu could still perform effectively as a leader, it is imperative to assess how he came to power. If he lacks the qualifications or has resorted to falsehoods, it raises serious doubts about his suitability for the highest office in the country. Certificate forgery sets a detrimental precedent, undermining the principles of transparency and honesty that should underpin leadership in Nigeria.

Politics / Southwest Leaders Must Fix Up by Laspotect247(m): 12:21am On Aug 10, 2023
The imperative lies with the governors of the southwestern region of Nigeria to coalesce and collaborate earnestly for the advancement of the territory. While traversing from Onitsha to Akwa to Enugu to Aba, it becomes apparent that scarcely any city within the southwestern precincts could match the comprehensive indices exhibited by the aforementioned locales, with the exception of Lagos.

Taking Ogun state as an illustrative example, the conspicuous absence of effective governance has resulted in a lamentable state of affairs. It is disheartening to witness a state in such close proximity to Lagos languishing in terms of rudimentary amenities.

The state of affairs is compounded by the archaic implements wielded by our agrarians, who persist in adhering to antiquated agricultural practices. The decrepit state of educational institutions and the crumbling healthcare infrastructure further compounds the predicament. The southwestern region's current semblance stands as a mere vestige of its former self; a stark contrast between the potential promised on paper and the reality that diverges from it.

Despite producing a cadre of leaders who have ascended to prominent positions within the nation's hierarchy, our zone remains ensnared by underdevelopment. Perceived as a domain of sophistication, our populace is paradoxically afflicted by privation and malnutrition. Unfortunately, the lack of visionary leaders has cast a pall over the southwestern landscape, except for the notable exception of Lagos, which thrives commendably.

Senator Daniel's initiation of the Southwest Development Bill within the Nigerian Senate warrants commendation. While the specifics of the bill elude me, its resonance with the imperative of regional advancement is palpable. It is incumbent upon us to rally behind and harness this legislative initiative to engender the much-needed development of our cherished enclave.

Politics / PDP Must Be Careful On Wike by Laspotect247(m): 9:28pm On Jul 29, 2023
On the matter of Wike's suspension from our party, the PDP, the acting national chairman must exercise utmost caution and refrain from following the path of the allegedly corrupt elder, Grandpa Iyorchia Ayu. Certain decisions demand tact and diplomacy, and it is imperative not to yield to the influence of the Wadata boys, who seem to be swayed by the highest bidder.

Regrettably, we find ourselves in this precarious situation, and the most prudent course of action would be to arrange a meeting with Wike and offer counsel on composing a letter of voluntary withdrawal from partisan politics.

If Wike faces suspension, should all his allies and those within our ranks who secretly engage with him also be subjected to the same fate? And what of the Rivers State governor? Will he too be suspended?

Suspending Wike may exacerbate the existing problems. If he is indeed destined to fall, let it occur organically without further complications for the party.

Alternatively, we could adopt an approach similar to that of Obasanjo's, urging him to voluntarily resign from partisan politics, even if only on paper. This measure may preserve the party's image and foster harmony among our members.

May the PDP and Ag. Damagum find success in navigating these challenges.

Politics / Peter O’ Iscariot By @omobabaijebu by Laspotect247(m): 4:49am On Jul 13, 2023
Peter O’ Iscariot by @omobabaijebu

In a similar vein as the biblical account, the story unfolds in the Nigerian political landscape, where a figure named Peter Gregory Obi assumed the role of a spoiler for the opposition in the recent general election.

For those well-acquainted with Nigerian politics, the memory lingers of Peter Obi's presence at the declaration of Atiku Abubakar for the 2023 elections. People were enthused to see him there, hoping for a repetition of the joint opposition ticket. However, unbeknownst to many, Peter Gregory Obi had ulterior motives. Rumors circulate that on that very day, Peter betrayed Atiku by striking a deal with the ruling party to disrupt the 2023 election and splinter opposition votes.

Peter seems to have forgotten how the PDP supported him when he faced persecution from figures like Victor Umeh in the APGA. The PDP stood by his side, granting him appointments in the presidency, providing control over the party structure for two political terms, and ultimately elevating him to the position of vice presidential candidate for our beloved party in 2019.

But how did Peter reciprocate? Instead of gratitude, he seized upon the social media wave, exploiting religious and ethnic divisions to turn against those who had nurtured his rise to national prominence. Peter conveniently forgot that he was once just a former governor before the PDP adorned him with national honors and introduced him to the realm of national politics.

While Peter Obi may possess a compelling vision for leading Nigeria, he seems to have overlooked the fundamental first step toward effecting change: attaining power. This cannot be achieved through social media antics or petty politics. It necessitates the arduous processes of building alliances, negotiating, and engaging in critical discourse. Unfortunately, these are qualities Peter lacks, and his actions have set the Igbo community back by several decades.

By entering the 2023 presidential race, Peter displayed a selfish concern for his own interests, overshadowing the fact that over 11 million people voted against the ruling party. He siphoned off approximately 50% of the opposition votes. Notably, there was no state in the previous election where Peter emerged victorious that wasn't an opposition stronghold. In fact, it was the PDP that managed to wrestle control of some states from the ruling party.

With the kind of politics Peter Obi engages in, one can foresee that he will never ascend to the presidency of this country. The solution to our nation's problems lies not in electing someone who inundates us with statistics borrowed from China but in selecting a leader who possesses practical solutions and a model to extricate us from this quagmire.

Peter evades accountability, rendering him no different from the individuals he criticizes. His usage of the phrase "Go and Verify" is merely a ploy to evade scrutiny. Lazy followers easily fall prey to false claims, especially when coated with the veneer of "Go and Verify," as aptly pointed out by @Sodiq on Twitter.

I concur with Sodiq's perspective that Peter O'Iscariot employs the phrase "Go and Verify" as a shield against questions about his governing methods, fabricating statistics from China and urging people to search for what is not lost. Numerous fact-checks conducted on Peter Obi have yielded false outcomes.

Similar to Judas' betrayal of Jesus, Peter Obi betrayed Atiku Abubakar and the PDP, the very party that stood by him when he faced adversaries. Whatever achievements he secured in the previous election were to the detriment of the PDP.

Peter Gregory Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party in the last presidential election, shall forever be remembered as a traitor—a purveyor of cheap blackmail, biting the hands that once fed him."
Politics / Re: Tinubu, Let The Poor Breathe by Laspotect247(m): 8:52am On Jun 29, 2023
RE: TINUBU, LET THE POOR BREATHE

President Tinubu on May 29th, 2023 while he was reading his acceptance speech made a reckless statement on fuel subsidy, knowingly or unknowingly that was the beginning of the suffering of Nigerians, immediately after that fuel stations stopped selling, some doubled their price, the cost of goods went up immediately because of that statement.

During the Buhari administration, Lagos to Abuja was around seventeen thousand naira, just within minutes of handing over the price doubled, how can you get power and become power drunk instantly?

In one of Tinubu's interviews, he said “Let the poor breath, don’t suffocate them” Little did we know that he meant the opposite, he’s only here to add to our problems, no right-thinking leader will make such a policy without providing palliatives to cushion the effect of subsidy.

It’s sickening to hear that even though we produce crude oil, we buy one of its byproducts at a very costly price, what our politicians want to play is that subsidy is the reason for our stunted growth, now that the subsidies have been removed life is not easy and one can easily feel the hardship on the face of Nigerians.

Yesterday, the president was moving with over 100 cars on the highway in Lagos, you want to remove subsidies which is beneficial to the poor while you increase your lifestyle and live extravagantly, I’m sorry Mr president sir you’re suffocating us, you want to kill the poor.

We practice very expensive politics in Nigeria, from the electioneering period to governance proper, a responsible government will look for ways to reduce the cost of governance and not inflict unnecessary hardship on Nigerians, the budget for the kitchen alone is 10 billion per year, you can’t spend 10billion on food while your people die of hunger, it just doesn’t make any sense.

I paid 27,000 from Portharcourt to Abuja this morning, I’m angry and not happy, why do I have to pay such a huge amount on a bad road, with no highway lights, etc. during the “corrupt PDP” regime that money could take you to Abuja by flight. The suppose corrupt days are now looking like the better days.

It’s the hypocrisy of President Tinubu for me because everything he’s condemning before is what he’s doing now, he now believes that subsidies should be removed something that he mobilize people to protest against and ground the country's economy for a week.

The Tinubu presidency is looking like a trap for Nigerians and we must all collectively speak out now, we should not be used to suffering.

OAU MURDER: NANS DEMANDS JUSTICE

As part of our fact-finding efforts towards understanding the circumstances surrounding the death of Ahize, the 500Level Civil Engineering student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife that was killed in Ile-Ife, we visited trio of the Dean, Division of Students' Affairs, Prof. I. O. Aransi, Chief Security Officer, Obafemi Awolowo University, Babatunde Oyatokun and the Commissioner of Police, Osun State, Mr. Kehinde Longe.

During our interaction with both the Dean, Division of Students' Affairs and the CSO of the institution, we got to understand that the death was a result of mismanagement of a case that could have been best handled in the most lawful means. We were also told that as against the information making round, at no point was the Quick Response Squad of the University was called upon to convey the deceased to the health centre before he gave up the ghost.

In fact, as a students' body which frowns against criminality in every form of it, we maintain that it was very wrong to have called the security unit of the University to convey the deceased to the health centre before he gave up the ghost, rather, the leadership of the Students' Union should have, upon been handed over to by the security committee of Awolowo Hall where the theft was alleged to have taken place immediately take him to the health centre for necessary treatment to be administered on him considering the injury he has suffered as a result of the beaten he got at Awolowo Hall. On his thigh is a very deep cut and what appears to be the use of an object to inscribe O on his thigh.

While interacting the CP, Mr. Kehinde Longe who invited the OC Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department to also brief us on their efforts so far, we made our stance known that we shall not in anyway stand in the way of justice and that we shall collaborate and cooperate with the institution of the Police to ensure that everyone involved in the murder are brought to justice. Yes, the deed has been done but the only favour we can do to the memory of the dead is to ensure that justice is served appropriately in order to serve as deterrence for others.

We have tasked the institution of the Police to ensure that those the deceased was handed over to at the Students' Union Building be invited and interrogated too as it will assist in the cause of investigation. Keeping the students in custody for close to 8hrs before he gave up the ghost despite the obvious fact that he needed medical attention as a result of the beating he has offered while at Awolowo Hall is in itself culpability considering the provisions of the Criminal Code which mandates one to prevent the commission of a crime so far it's within one's power. Right now, a crime has been committed!

Once again, we state that we frown against every form of jungle justice, not even on our campuses. Mob means people and everyone involved in that shameful and criminal act must be identified and brought to justice. great Ife remains the bastion of vibrant and virile students' unionism in Nigeria and the interests of the students must prevail.

Education / Murder At Oau Sub: Time For Unions To Adopt Modern &democratic Activism by Laspotect247(m): 11:11pm On Apr 13, 2023
MURDER AT OAU SUB: TIME FOR STUDENTS' UNIONS TO ADOPT MODERN, DEMOCRATIC AND INDEPENDENT ACTIVISM ON ALL CAMPUSES

The news of the murder of Ahize, a 500-Level Civil Engineering student of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife who was initially apprehended for phone theft (later retrieved), is unfortunate and an unprecedented one. In fact, it is a reflection of the long trajectory of different campuses in terms of modernisation of orientation, and the debasement of social development in the students' movement generally.

However, that it happened on OAU campus which is one of the most active Unions in the history of NANS is not only sad, but calls for deep and sombre reflections.

We believe strongly that the death of the student is caused by the absence of the modernisation of unionism, the weakness of the union organs and structures, and the arbitrary poverty in the country which made Ahize to steal and also made the hungry mob to be so stupidly angry. It is no gainsaying that the Union has not been allowed to grow in terms of years of banning and victimisation which has made students to lose touch of the right orientation as regards what their Union represents. Also, the strikes caused by the government has allowed much reactionary lifestyles on campuses.

The murder of Ahize is such an internal affairs of the Union which we hope will not tarnish the long history of the Union because, we understand that Great Ife Students' Union does not in anyway support assault not to talk of murder. The ethos of the Unionism on that Ivory tower is built on Solidarity, Equality, and Democracy. However, the message this incidence has sent to us is that campus activities must be subjected to public scrutiny, and that the long traditions of Great Ife is being eroded by the excessive incursions by foreign and external forces which has allowed for the Union leadership to be moribund and chasing unprincipled clouts. The conservative way of punishment should be changed and new ways of punishing theft and other crimes should be built. This will be done by making sure Great Ife Students Union remains the metaphor for building a nationally virile and scientific students movement.

"Maximum shishi" which is being talked about came into use in terms of response to neo-fascists attack most especially after the July 10, 1999 massacre in Ife, which till date the Federal Government has failed to release its official reports nor punish those who caused that night of horror.

Students' Unions must learn from the OAU scenario that we need be more technical and more democratic in terms of dispensing punishment. We should aim at corrective other than punitive measures. We should discipline, not punish.

As a body, we shall commence a national campaign against mob unionism and start an education for virile, creative, active, independent and congressional unionism on our campuses. We shall also wade in while calling on the management to include NANS national leadership in the committee to be set up to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.

While condoling with the families of the deceased, we shall pay them a visit over the demise of their son. We shall also make sure justice is never suffered nor bent by cooperating with Police and all relevant authorities investigating the death.

To Great Ife Students, we as the National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) posits as follows:

1. We welcome the swift intervention of the Students via the Congress. We agree with all resolutions of Congress. We believe that we need more robust discussion as to a lasting resolution to this heavy issue at hand.

2. We send our condolences to the family of the late Ahize. This death is a big loss, and rubs humanity of the chance to instil grace and positive discipline.

3. We stand in Solidarity with the Great Ife Students Union. We admit that the Union can make errors, but same must be handled for corrective means. NANS hereby ask our legal team to immediately intervene on the cases and come up with legal standpoints for the Congress.

4. NANS will be meeting with the Great Ife Students Congress very soon. We must fashion a positive way-forward for all students, and make sure we do not repeat the mistakes of the past, while facing the future with the lessons of the moment.

5. We salute the entire Great Ife community, our beloved sister unions in ASUU, NASU, ASSUTON, and SSANU. We thank for the solidarity in this disheartening period.

6. We also commend the management for its understanding thus far. The way to have the best students that would lead the best future is to give the enabling environment for students to learn appropriately for themselves and the entire society.

A Greater Great Ife is not negotiable!

Education / Nans Commends Nigerian Government For Investing In Education by Laspotect247(m): 11:46am On Apr 06, 2023
NANS COMMENDS NIGERIAN GOVERNMENT FOR INVESTING IN EDUCATION

We find it noteworthy to commend the Federal Government for approving #24.2bn for free internet at Airports and varsities. It is important we state that as an association, we have been at the vanguard of the campaign for the proper funding of the educational sector which brought about the ACAREF campaign launched by our noble association in the late '90s.

Though, the approval is more or less a piecemeal but we believe it is in tandem with our demand for the proper funding of educational sector most especially for the provision of materials that will aid teaching and learning in our institutions of learning.

It is still fresh in our memories how institutions of learning were shutdown during the heat of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria because the Federal Government has failed to make preparations for cases like that.

During the period, the South West body of our noble association continued to make case for a need to go virtual with teaching and learning because, according to us, we believe that nothing warrants putting academic activities on hold. So, with this approval coming to fore, we can only call on the Federal Government to ensure that it is systemic and also not commercialised.

We also commend the Federal Government for approving the disbursement of #330.3bn intervention funds for public tertiary institutions in the country through TETFUND-TSA account. This, to us, is also commendable. As a matter of fact, it is a way to go towards funding the educational sector. We believe it is wrong for the government to continue abandoning institutions of learning after establishment. Rather, sufficient funds should be made available to ease teaching and learning.

Going forward, we call on EFCC and ICPC to ensure that the funds are tracked and that institutions whose managements don't make judicious use of the funds be tried in order to serve as deterrence for others.

Accountability must be enforced.

Politics / ELECTIONS 2023; I Wish Obi Well But I’m Voting Atiku Abubakar by Laspotect247(m): 10:27pm On Feb 13, 2023
I wish obi well but I’m voting Atiku Abubakar - omobabaijebu

For the very first time in the history of our dear country, we are having a people oriented campaign. Some of our people have found a new love in Peter Obi and truth be told, Peter Obi has brought a new rhythm to Nigeria political Space.

In 12 days time, we will decide the destiny of this country, who will lead us in the next four years. All presidential candidates have worked so hard, preaching the gospel of what they have to offer to Nigerians and I expect that everyone should have picked a side. There’s no sitting on the fence at this time, it’s either you’re obidient or Atikulated or you are chewing corn.

What Peter Obi is doing is unprecedented, a new Nigeria, a Nigeria that will work for all, as such so many people have jettisoned party politics, ethnic loyalty etc to support his campaign.

Should Peter emerge, will he deliver the Nigeria of our dreams? Only God can decide that as no politician on earth can be trusted, you can elect a good man today and the agent of darkness frustrates his effort to deliver good governance to the people.

Wait a min, there’s a man from Jada Town in Adamawa state, unfairly judged and have been given all sort of name, he’s Atiku Abubakar the man I will supporting in this election, there’s actually nothing you’re looking for in a good politician that you will not find in Atiku Abubakar.

As the former Vice president of our nation, he’s experienced and understands perfectly the challenges facing the nation, A father, business mogul and philanthropist.

I believe Atiku will deliver the Nigeria of our dreams, he also has the required popularity to win the election, loved by many and hated by a few unscrupulous politicians. Day by day we edge closer to Atiku's presidency and I’m glad that help is coming soon.

I wish Peter Obi well, it’s okay to dream but not all dreams come true, the Peter Obi presidency is achievable, maybe not 2023, but surely one day Nigerians should get ready for an OBI presidency, I’m sure he’s destined for that seat one day.

Alas, may the best strategist win.

Politics / Peter Obi Is Not The Solution To Nigeria Problems by Laspotect247(m): 9:29pm On Jan 28, 2023
Peter Obi is not the solution to Nigeria problems by owolabi marvellous (@omobabaijebu101)

Every election cycle politicians regroup themselves to form a new party, preaching hope and freedom to the Nigerian populace. In 2007, Atiku Abubakar tried it with action congress, in 2011 president buhari tried with CPC and in 2015 they all come together to form what I term the “most toxic opposition ever”

Every electioneering period, we pick a new messiah to queue behind, the messiah fails and we then turn to another person. It didn’t start today, It has been like that since the British era down to the time of MKO Abiola and now to Peter obi.

Nigerians look for messiah, someone who will fix the country in three market days and we end up electing the worst of them all, a few months ago, I engaged some of my friends who supports Peter Obi, I wanted to know what was Peter plan for Nigeria, to my greatest surprise there was no substance..

Peter, Atiku, or Tinubu will not solve the numerous problems facing our dear country, Nigeria problem is beyond electing anyone, the problem of the country is that there are many people with bad intentions than the good ones, like my Yoruba people will say a good person in the midst of one thousand bad person is also a bad person.

You can elect a good leader today and the agent of darkness who hide under being called politicians will frustrate his efforts, those who were old enough to follow the GEJ regime will tell you that he employed the best hands in the country, at the end he was frustrated out of office by criminals who masquerade themselves as politicians.

My dream is to see a better Nigeria and I’m sure that’s the dream of millions of Nigerians youths out there, but we must not place too much trust in politicians to give us the better country we deserve, after all every politician has his own interest and that is the first thing they will protect. .
, there’s a need for a citizen oriented shadow cabinet to identify the bad eggs in governance, security, finance, power and every other sector in the country.
It shouldn’t be business as usual, Peter can set a new pathway and can also ruin the country further.

Can Peter Obi be trusted ? Hell No, obidients use Anambra as an example but today anambra is one of poorest and underdeveloped state in Nigeria, just because he’s positioning himself as a third force candidates doesn’t mean he’s a saint, Peter was part of the rot of this nation, he was a major player and recently the vice presidential candidate of the people Democratic Party in the 2019 general election.

As we approach the elections, Nigeria needs to study carefully the plans of all presidential candidates and choose the one that can lead us out of this mess, enough of electing emergency candidates who later turn out to become a disaster.

Politics / Vote Peter Not Obi By Omobabaijebu by Laspotect247(m): 10:34pm On Nov 01, 2022
Vote Peter not obi - omobabaijebu

A simple search on google will show you that; Peter was one of the 12 Apostles of Jesus. "Roman Catholic tradition holds that Jesus established St. Peter as the first pope (Matthew 16:18). Jesus also gave him “the keys of the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 16:19), which is why he is often depicted at the gates of heaven in art and popular culture"

While Peter in the bible was nicknamed the saint, there's no saint in Nigeria politics, every politician is involved in the decay of this nation.

(ACT 4 vs 13) made us understand that when peter was entrusted with responsibility, he demonstrated that he was mature and capable. He did not send out drafts or show unpreparedness like the peter in Nigeria that couldn't come up with a solid campaign council or economy blue prints.

The peter to lead nigeria out of this mess must be the person that is prepared and has outlined his vision and mission for the country, at this junction in our country, we do not need someone who will ride on social media outrage and deliver poorly, we tried it in 2015, look at where we are today. We need someone who is public-private tested, we need courageous men and not political boys to face the challenges facing our dear nation.

In (ACT 1 14-15) Peter served as an advocate for the Jews, as the election is fast approaching we should follow a candidate that will champion youth, women and men inclusion in governance. Someone who respects the rule of law and a father to all.

Peter was a leader for all and in fact after the demise of our lord jesus christ, peter held the leadership position and acted well.

We need a leader like Peter, maybe Peter Obi is the Peter I do not know, maybe it's Atiku Abubakar or Sowore. It's your duty to choose the best Peter for Nigeria.

May Nigeria succeed.

We are all OBIDIENT by @omobabaijebu

"OBIdient" - not limited to supporters of Peter Obi but everyone demanding a better Nigeria irrespective of political affiliation.

Tonight I ask myself why are the youth following Peter Obi and why are they claiming that they are OBIdient? Then something said to me, are you blind ? deaf or stupid? Of course I'm not, but as I think deeply, I begin to see the reason why that question came in, I stepped out to get a bag of pure water and lo and behold I bought it for two hundred naira, 10 years ago a bag of pure water was barely seventy naira. I was so angry and gradually aligned my thoughts with the OBIdients.

I looked at it again, you send your child to school to study law, civil engineering or medicine only for them to graduate and become content creators, selling bedsheets and lip gloss online or WhatsApp, our thieving politicians have reduced us to marketers.

A supposed producing country is now a fully blown marketing company. A doctor is now a marketer, an engineer is now trading gift cards while a lawyer is selling skirts and blouses. I was so angry within my spirit.

Whether you're supporting Peter OBI or Atiku Abubakar or Mr macaroni we are all OBIdient because we believe that our desired candidate has the capability to transform this nation.

But my pain is that why should you campaign for APC after 8 disastrous years, We have moved 34 years backwards and some individual's still want to reinforce failure. The APC is a curse and we must come together to fight them.

If you desire a better Nigeria you're OBIdient, we are all tired, everyone is running away from this country, not all of us can afford that luxury of traveling out, as such we must demand a better country, how can ASUU be on strike and you're not OBIdient? Are you mad or something?

The price of garri, cassava and beans in 2015 is not the same in 2022? If we all agree that APC have inflicted hardship on the nation, why are we still supporting them ? There's a need to declare a state of emergency of sense on anyone that is not OBIdient (keep in mind the definition)

Finally, anyone that is not OBIdient should be treated as an enemy of this nation, we must move forward, Nigeria must be great and we will not allow the selfish agenda of some unscrupulous politicians put us in a tight corner post 2023.

Above all get your PVC and VOTE!
Politics / Opinion: 2023, And The Fate Of Peter Obi By @omobabaijebu by Laspotect247(m): 8:55pm On Oct 03, 2022
Opinion: 2023, and the fate of Peter Obi by @omobabaijebu

His Excellency Dr. Nnamdi Azikwe was Governor-general 16th November 1960, in what some people tagged as being a ceremonial president, considering the incident that happened before he was elected Governor General. If you recall, this wouldn't have happened if he didn't not form an alliance with the northern people congress which gave birth to Tafawa- balewa becoming the prime minister.

As easy as you want to make Nigeria politics look like, you need alliances to win elections. Without such alliances you might win on pages of newspapers and not in real life.

Azikwe played his card well, and fast forward to 1999 when we returned to the democratic rule, the northern Alliance helped His Excellency Olusegun Obasanjo win that election.

Overtime in Africa and other parts of the world, for you to win, you must make alliances especially when you're from the minority zone, definitely ethnicity and religion play a key role when citizens choose her leaders.

As 2023 approaches, peter obi is winning the minds of million of youth like myself but we must look at the pathway to election victory in our country and the chances of Mr Peter Obi in the 2023 election:

Following the pattern of results from the 2019 election where Gen. Muhammadu Buhari defeated Alh. Atiku Abubakar you will see that despite Atiku having more votes in the south, he lost with about 4million votes.

Where do these 4 million votes come from ? They come from a place where the name Peter Obi is not heard, and if we must be truthful to ourselves we would know that without votes coming from that place he will lose the election.

Like I have always advised my friends who are Obedient, the Obi presidency is achievable but take the message to sora dosa, argungun, kotagora, katari, funtua etc.

We also have a strong presidential aspirant from the southwest, which means the path to a southern presidency in 2023 is not clear. Any candidate that can deliver 60% of the northern votes will win this election with a landslide.

The "Igbophobia" syndrome among the northerners is another reason they will rather queue behind another candidate than a south-eastern president. So if you think it's an easy ride for Peter Obi, it's not. There's alot to deal with.

I'm not a fan of large campaign gatherings, people are hungry and most times they won't even come through when you need them, so we need to start looking for votes where it rural areas for Peter Obi, the underdeveloped areas where they can easily sell their votes for a pot of porridge.

It may also interest you to know that, for you to become the president of this country you must win 25% of votes in two-third states of the federation including the F.C.T else there will be a re-run, It's just 4 months to the general election, How do obedient people intend to achieve this? What are the plans to tackle vote buying and inducement, elections in Nigeria are expensive, what is the financial power of the labor party ? If the aforementioned questions are not duly answered then the labor party is not ready to take over the helm of affairs.

The choice of vice-president is also a major block to achieving a Peter-obi presidency, the likes of senator hunkuyi, Rabiu kwakwaso, sen Shekarau, sen Ningi, sen Marafa would have pulled more votes up north, Datti Ahmed is a paper weight politician and bring nothing except logistics supports to the Peter obi presidential campaign.

MY VERDICT: I'm not God, but I'm convinced that Peter Obi will do well in the south, but the numbers from the north might let him down , thereby losing the election.
P.S : It is open to criticism

FEAR HAS KILLED MANY DREAMS, YET, COMR. GIWA YISA AND LAGOS JCC STANDS OUT VICTORIOUS AT THE NANS NATIONAL CONVENTION... ```Congratulations Lagos Comrades and students community at large```

The National leadership of Nigerian students on September 3rd, 2022, elected set of new leaders to manage the affairs of the association, and change the narratives of the National Association of Nigerian Students.

While the convention lasted for more than 10 days, the sweet story of the convention is the historical emergence of Lagos unique son and student, ```Comr. Giwa Yisa Temitope```, who was elected as the image maker of the association in a period where politics as dominated public representation.

His victory is even sweeter, being the first Lagos student to be elected at the National body of NANS since 14yrs back. While the campaign team was headed by NANS JCC Lagos and some great stakeholders, Lagos again proved to be the face of Nigeria at the students political family, just like it is happening at the level of partisan politics.

On behalf of the leadership of NANS JCC Lagos, we wish to congratulate our son, brother, friend, comrade and student, ```Comr. Giwa Yisa Temitope``` on his astonished victory at the poll.

This victory is an opportunity for us to prove again to the world that Lagos is the home of beauty, image and branding. This is a collective victory for all Lagos students, hence, we celebrate ourselves.

Congratulations once again our indefatigable comrade.

Crime / Team Giwa 4 NANS National PRO Frowns At The Gruesome Murder Of A Mapoly Student by Laspotect247(m): 5:22pm On Aug 14, 2022
*Team GIWA 4 NANS National PRO frowns at the gruesome murder of a Mapoly student in Ogun State, demands justice.*

The campaign team of the frontline aspirant for the position of PRO in the forthcoming NANS convention, Comr. Giwa Yisa Temitope has expressed their umbrage over the wanton killing of Mapoly student, Miss Happiness Odeh who until her death held the title of Miss Mapoly.

Recall that, the girl was reportedly kidnapped on the 9th of August 2022 on her way to a movie location in Ipara, Ode-Remo Ogun State but all efforts made by all authorities to regain her freedom proved futile when the broken-hearted news broke out that she has been murdered by her abductors.

"We want to use this medium to call on Ogun State Governor, His Excellency Gov. Dapo Abiodun through the ever dogged senior special assistant on students Comrade Azeez Adeyemi, the commissioner Of Police and other authority to do all possible actions within their means to bring the culprits to book and serve justice appropriately," they said.

The Symbol, Comrade Giwa Yisa prays to God to grant the victim's family fortitude to bear the grim loss.

Happiness until her death was an ND2 student of the department of Mass communication.

Aluta continua! Victoria Ascerta!!
