Education / Fear Has Killed Many Dreams, Yet, Comr. Giwa Yisa And Lagos Jcc Stands Out by Laspotect247(m): 3:55pm On Sep 09, 2022
FEAR HAS KILLED MANY DREAMS, YET, COMR. GIWA YISA AND LAGOS JCC STANDS OUT VICTORIOUS AT THE NANS NATIONAL CONVENTION... ```Congratulations Lagos Comrades and students community at large```

The National leadership of Nigerian students on September 3rd, 2022, elected set of new leaders to manage the affairs of the association, and change the narratives of the National Association of Nigerian Students.

While the convention lasted for more than 10 days, the sweet story of the convention is the historical emergence of Lagos unique son and student, ```Comr. Giwa Yisa Temitope```, who was elected as the image maker of the association in a period where politics as dominated public representation.

His victory is even sweeter, being the first Lagos student to be elected at the National body of NANS since 14yrs back. While the campaign team was headed by NANS JCC Lagos and some great stakeholders, Lagos again proved to be the face of Nigeria at the students political family, just like it is happening at the level of partisan politics.

On behalf of the leadership of NANS JCC Lagos, we wish to congratulate our son, brother, friend, comrade and student, ```Comr. Giwa Yisa Temitope``` on his astonished victory at the poll.

This victory is an opportunity for us to prove again to the world that Lagos is the home of beauty, image and branding. This is a collective victory for all Lagos students, hence, we celebrate ourselves.

Congratulations once again our indefatigable comrade.

God bless NANS National Body!
God bless NANS JCC Lagos!!
God bless Nigerian students!!!

Regards,
```Comr. Olusesi Tolulope Samson (HOT),```
Crime / Team Giwa 4 NANS National PRO Frowns At The Gruesome Murder Of A Mapoly Student by Laspotect247(m): 5:22pm On Aug 14, 2022
*Team GIWA 4 NANS National PRO frowns at the gruesome murder of a Mapoly student in Ogun State, demands justice.*
The campaign team of the frontline aspirant for the position of PRO in the forthcoming NANS convention, Comr. Giwa Yisa Temitope has expressed their umbrage over the wanton killing of Mapoly student, Miss Happiness Odeh who until her death held the title of Miss Mapoly.
Recall that, the girl was reportedly kidnapped on the 9th of August 2022 on her way to a movie location in Ipara, Ode-Remo Ogun State but all efforts made by all authorities to regain her freedom proved futile when the broken-hearted news broke out that she has been murdered by her abductors.
"We want to use this medium to call on Ogun State Governor, His Excellency Gov. Dapo Abiodun through the ever dogged senior special assistant on students Comrade Azeez Adeyemi, the commissioner Of Police and other authority to do all possible actions within their means to bring the culprits to book and serve justice appropriately," they said.
The Symbol, Comrade Giwa Yisa prays to God to grant the victim's family fortitude to bear the grim loss.
Happiness until her death was an ND2 student of the department of Mass communication.
Aluta continua! Victoria Ascerta!!
Education / Security Of Students: Naus Chairman Visits Dss Chairman by Laspotect247(m): 4:48pm On Apr 08, 2022
THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS, CAMPUS MONITORING COMMITTEE LAGOS, LED BY THE CHAIRMAN, COMRADE IFEOLUWA SONOIKI PAID A COURTESY VISIT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE SECURITY (DSS) LAGOS STATE COMMAND, ON TUESDAY, THE 5TH OF APRIL, 2022.
In attendance at the Department of State Security (DSS) office was the Asst. Director of operations and intelligence Mr Shehu Shehu, (PSC, MNI), the operation officer Mr Femi Adebisi, the officer in charge of student affairs, Mr Toba, and two other staff.
Mr Toba introduced the staff of the agency to the NAUS Chairman and his team, after which the Vice-Chairman Comrade David Paul Olubode introduced the student leaders present at the office.
After the introduction, the Chairman expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Asst. Director and staff members of DSS for the success of the election held last month that produced the Chairman which had their presence, he mentioned that the reason for the courtesy visit was for NAUS CMC Lagos to have a cordial relationship with the agency, and build a very strong one which will have a great impact on the students at large in the state.
During the discussion, the Vice-Chairman commented on the harassment of students by officials of other agencies such as the police, EFCC, etc.
The Treasurer, Comrade Victory Eloho, said that the union body would appreciate it if the agency can have an open-door policy that would enable them to reach out whenever it is needed, she also informed Mr Shehu that the union body would be holding a security summit on a soon to be announced date seeking the support of the agency to come and train most the girl child on how to defend themselves when security issues arise.
In his response to the comment made by Comrade David, the Asst. Director Mr Shehu Shehu (PSC, MNI) said that students must ensure they act within the law at all times and they must be responsible, and said the agency is committed to the safety of lives, in his response to Ms Eloho, he said the student body should let the DSS know when they plan to hold the summit and where they can come in, he also told her that the agency is operating on an open-door policy as their quick response to the association’s courtesy visit request is an example, and mentioned that they are always available when called upon by the student union body.
The Vice President NAUS Southwest, Comrade Oladimeji Adesoji (SOJ) raised an issue on the arrest of students across the zone by the EFCC, he said the officials of the anti-graft agency make arrests of students without warrants by the court, and evidence showing they are guilty, saying that the student leaders are not always carried along when these arrests are about to be made and said if care is not taken the young people would call for the scrapping of the agency through protest.
He also mentioned how the conspiracy theory of the government has been going around to privatize the education sector as public universities are always been underfunded by the federal government and sort the assistance of the Asst. Director to collaborate with his colleagues in other states to advise the government on the negative impact the ASUU strike is having on students, security-wise.
In his response, Mr Shehu said that there is no such conspiracy, he also mentioned that the current crisis is a phase and it would pass, as we are not new to things like these, he said that the budget of the government is not for the education sector alone as other unions in other sectors have demands for proper funding.
In his response to the arrest issue made by the EFCC the VP raised, Mr Shehu mentioned that the EFCC has the power to make an arrest, he said the anti-graft agency and others can pick people for questioning as arrests are not just made without gathering intelligence, mentioning that the police, DSS, EFCC has powers but the police force is empowered by law to arrest for financial, drug, and other crimes committed by citizens and warrants are not always needed, saying that warrants cannot be needed when a robbery crime has been committed.
Mr Shehu said that when arrests are been made and the student leaders are kept in the loop, there is room for compromise which would affect the investigation of the agencies, and gives room for criminals to escape.
Finally, The Asst. Director reiterated that the agency would always be ready to listen to what the Chairman has to say when called upon anytime.
The NAUS CMC Lagos Chairman appreciated the Asst. Director and his team for giving them an audience and said that the union body would ensure strong collaboration with the agency.The NAUS CMC Lagos Chairman came in the company of the Vice-Chairman David Paul Olubode, the Treasurer Comrade Victory Eloho, Financial Secretary Comrade Specter Oluwasegun, Director of Special Duties, Tinubu King Ademola, The Special Asst. to the Chairman on Media Oyelakin Emmanuel, The Vice President NAUS Southwest Comrade Oladimeji Adesoji (SOJ), Comrade Giwa Temitope former NANS General Secretary Zone D (Southwest) and Comrade White from LASU.
Politics / State Of The Nation: Nigeria Is Failing Says Nans Lagos by Laspotect247(m): 7:56am On Mar 19, 2022
PRESS RELEASE
 STATE OF THE NATION: NIGERIA IS FAILING SAYS NANS LAGOS
Over the years, the Nigerian governmental activities influenced by politics have been in shambles and we cannot continue to hide as it affects the daily lives of the citizens. For the very first time in this country, we have recorded high inflation, poor standard of living, strikes from officers of various sectors, fuel scarcity, poor power supply and high crime rate.
Right before our eyes our nation is failing and the labor of our heroes' past is being jeopardized by some set of  rancorous elites, politicians or powerful men, who lack basic knowledge on how to run the affairs of a country.
According to Martin Luther king jr. "it's evil to be silent in the face of oppression, injustice and corruption"  we have to take a side and that is the side of TRUTH, we cannot continue to hide.
Today, 19/03/2022, fuel is at N200 per liter and up to N500 per liter at black market, Nigeria is an oil producing country, petrol is a by-product of crude oil and if we have crude oil in excess why do we suffer to get the end product for our daily consumption?
As reported by mainstream media on 25th of February 2022, "fuel subsidy gulps up to 210billion as NNPC records zero remittance to FAAC". The ongoing corruption and theft in the oil industry is like cancer and it is eating up resources leaving the country in shambles.
In a Tweet by the chairman of Heirs holding, Mr Tony Elumelu  he complained about the corruption in the oil and gas industry, which amounts to 95% of the oil produced in Nigeria being stolen. Few people cannot hold over 190million people to ransom, we must be ready to change the status quo.
On security, the government of the day has not done anything worthy of commendation, as a matter of fact they have left it worse than they met it. In every part of the country we now count dead bodies. We experience unfortunate situations,  fighting too many battles at the same time, the enemies within are ready to see this country crumble before our eyes.
In retrospect, notable Nigerians have come out to speak on the collusion between security agencies and terrorists in our country, On 24th of march 2018, former COAS TY DANJUMA  accused the Nigerian army of colluding with terrorists to kill the people,  also late OBADIAH  MALAIFA  former deputy governor of the central bank of Nigeria spoke about how men of Nigeria police ushered banditry to our country, till today this statement has not been investigated.
The sad reality is that insecurity is touching every part of the country, from herdsmen to banditry to cultism and armed robbery. you cannot escape it and if we remain silent, people will continue to die as long as they are not affected, they care less.
The consistent strike by ASUU is another blow to this government,  the president has paid more attention to his medical trip and fraternization with party activities, than paying rapt attention to the educational sector. The president and his cronies will rather have their children school abroad than fixing the educational sector.
Students who are supposed to be in the classroom are in their various homes, even parents cannot afford high school fees in some government owned institutions. Hence, if you must tackle crime, you must fix the educational sector, they must add value to it and make education more attractive. People who enjoyed free education under chief Obafemi Awolowo should not hold the destiny of millions of Nigerian students.
Our Economy is not beyond repair. The president and his team need to get the best hand to revive this economy, Although it is quite late for him to mend considering he has a few months to vacate the office, but then if he must write his name in gold, we must begin to utilize the various loans they have collected.
They have borrowed every money available yet, there is nothing to show for it, growth should reflect in the lives of the citizens and not on the pages of newspapers. We cannot continue to pretend as if all is well, the common man is suffering, hunger virus is the greatest virus on earth, other countries have tackled it in time past, we can also do that in Nigeria.
Finally, I am speaking to you from a place of pain and with a heavy heart, I am speaking on behalf of millions of Nigerian youths that are tired. We cannot continue like this. The election year is coming and we must come out to vote for visionary leaders. The era of "bread and akara politics" is over. It is time for serious business.
Thank you for your time and God bless you.
SAVE OUR FUTURE!: NULASS Kicks against Marginalization, Alienation of Indigenes
The Indigenous Students of Lagos State under the umbrella of National Union of Lagos state Students, (NULASS) kicked against Marginalization and Alienation of the state Indigenes by the state government.
It is a big slap on the face of indigenes, that in a state that has traditional rulers, elite elders , competent and energetic youths that fits in public offices but we are sidelines for the Non indigenes “ATOHUNRINWAs” the most saddening part of the story is that they become famous in Lagos state then leave Lagos to develop their respective states.
We all know that we Lagosians are accommodating but there should always be limits and boundaries set aside for the “ATOHUNRINWAs” in other for them not to trespass.
It is on this note, we call on all Traditional leaders and the leaders of the five divisions in the state to support by putting an end to these Marginalizations or we will be forced to use the last C of Aluta.
No doubt, Lagos gives opportunity and support for everyone to grow but its disheartening to see that our rights as indigenes has been sold!
BETWEEN DON TEAMIE AND THE FUTURE OF NANS LAGOS BY OMOBABIJEBU
Comrades,
February 5th 2022, is the day the lord has set aside for our senators to elect who will paddle the canoe  of  NANS JCC Lagos. A number of people have declared interest but out of all the plans of Com. AKINTONA TIMILEHIN  EMMANUEL popularly known as Don Teamie caught my attention.
I have carefully and painstakingly read through his plan and I'm convinced that with necessary support, students and stakeholders will enjoy his tenure.
His leadership and entrepreneurship achievements  beats all other aspirants, carefully reading through his five page curriculum vitae, you will see that a lot has been done in private capacity, one could imagine what will be done if given total support from relevant stakeholders and state agents.
I'm a student of history, and I can likened his political style with that of H.E Obafemi Awolowo, or I will say  he's the Obafemi Awolowo of our generation, A well respected comrade among junior  and senior cadres needs all the supports from senators to achieve what God have sent him to do in our noble association.
The future of NANS Lagos is paramount to him, and I remember in our last discussion, how he was passionate about the development of NANS, it was the vision that led him to sponsor the logistics of myself and hundreds of others to one of the major programs hosted by NANS LAGOS
Truth be told, previous Administration have laid the foundation of a greater MASS JCC Lagos and we should not allow our choice of candidate bring us 10 steps backwards. My dear senators voting for Don Teamie means that we want our association to be a role model for other sister associations we have in nigeria.
An aspirant without a manifesto  or plan should not even be near the seat of power, The Don plan is out there for public scrutiny and in a year's time we can hold him accountable, if he has been able to achieve all said. I have no doubt that he will do more than expected.
He has shown seriousness during the electioneering period, suffered cheap blackmail amidst others but he's not deterred, he is determined and in great spirit to deliver on his campaign promises.
Finally, Distinguish senators, the ball is in court  and the decision is in your heart to give us (students and the entire NASS)  a reason to smile.
Education / Sylvester Oromoni: Nulass Condemns Commissioner Of Police Statement, Applauds La by Laspotect247(m): 9:18am On Jan 09, 2022
National Union Of Lagos State Students (National Executive Council)
PRESS RELEASE
SYLVESTER OROMONI: NULASS CONDEMNS COMMISSIONER OF POLICE STATEMENT, APPLAUDS LAGOS STATE GOVT FOR SWIFT REACTION
The National Union of Lagos State Students (NULASS) has condemned the the statement by the state commissioner of Police on the death of Sylvester Oromoni at Dowen College.
This is in response to the Investigative proceedings on Sylvester's death, we commended the Lagos State Government for removing Mrs. Adetutu Oshinusi from the office of Director of Public Prosecution.
Mrs. Oshinusi who had in her recommendation to the police on the case called for the release of the Dowen staff and students suspected to have a hand in circumstances leading to the death of Oromoni on Tuesday, insisting the autopsy report showed that the victim died of infection and not as a result of being physically assaulted as claimed by family members.
We as a union plead with the Lagos State Government to make significant efforts to educate the Lagos Police boss, Hakeem Odumosu, to detest from making statements that contravene obvious facts.
Facts strongly indicate Sylvester was bullied and his death wasn't natural. After Sylvester's death, a video justifying the bullying nature of one of the boys who was alleged to have bullied Sylvester Oromoni jnr, Edward Brown, surfaced online. In the said video, Edward Brown was seen punching a fellow student.
We equally want to reiterate that NULASS the premier umbrella body for all Lagos State indigenous students (Nursery to Tertiary institution), home and in diaspora has zero tolerance for bullying, violence, harassment, assault or crime of any nature. NULASS will not leave any stone unturned in it's fight for justice for Sylvester.
We will keep liaising with all relevant stakeholders, NANS, the Family & the State Government to ensure accurate findings are obtained and justice meted out.
We reprimand the actions of whosoever that is trying to repress justice, big or small, low or in high places and ask that the rule of justice be made supreme.
We still want to urge the Parents of Late Sylvester Oromoni jnr and Dowen college, to release the medical records of Sylvester Oromoni jr before his demise as requested by NANS and concerned stakeholders. This is important as it would shed more light to ongoing investigations.
We will not stop at pursuing justice for the late Sylvester and equally exposing any decay in the system. So is our resolve for justice.
Once again we seek Justice for Sylvester Oromoni jnr!!!
Bravery is what defines the lion, bravery coupled with its unsurmountable leadership skills makes the small creature rule over beast of the jungle, the cap which no other animal dare to style.
"For ages, no coup or violence has ever relived the lion of his natural duty, the jungle remains the Lion's."
Coming from behind and taking the center stage is one of the characteristics of nobility, while being preceded by great legacy is a successful narration everyone clamours for. "The personality of a man is wholly defined by his antecedents not his precedents."
Obviously, people who believes in the promised precedents of political officers tend to loose than those who do otherwise (I.e checked their antecedents before anointing them). Being the Lion replica of IKORODU NORTH LCDA Chairmanship race, ADESANYA is an household name with a truck full of achievements. Literally, ADESANYA is the Lion of the race—" of course, the lion always win.
Holistically, only those who seems to be myopic won't have a glaring sight of what Hon Matthew has achieved even while not in power, and only those whose eardrum got damaged won't have felt the rhythmic beat of his achievements.
Overtly, aside being a strong youth development enforcer, Hon. Matthew Aliu Adesanya is quite known as a political emancipator, propagator and a positivist. not only for those close by, people afar feels the heat coming from his stronghold as well.
Hon MATTHEW ALIU ADESANYA has been in the political realm way long.
No one disagrees with the fact that, human development will in no time translate to community development which the state can capitalize on, what won't a man who capitalizes on human development achieved if given the mandate to serve? many beyond our reasonable reasonings.
Support the man with the Lion's heart, support the one who knows the way and shows the way. "A support for HON MATTHEW ALIU ADESANYA is a support for a secured future."
Politics / S/W PDP: Fayose Camp In Disarray As Olafeso, Eleka, Doherty, Others Makes Plan T by Laspotect247(m): 9:02pm On Feb 23, 2021
S/W PDP: Fayose camp in disarray as Olafeso, Eleka, Doherty, others makes plan to dump him
The immediate past National Vice/South West Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dr. Eddy Olafeso and the factional State Chairmen are reportedly making plans to dump the camp of the Former Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose over insincerity.
Fayose, who is currently battling with several cases of fraud at the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), have gotten a court order to travel out of the country on a medical ground. The court further said that his passport should be released to him, but from Fayose's recent media appearances, he has not shown that he needs to travel abroad, except if he is trying to run away to evade justice.
According to an Insider, Olafeso complained that Mr. Fayose who they thought was making in road for them politically, happened to be deceiving them with just his noise and braggado in the media, with no concrete plan on how they will take over the party. He lamented bitterly that he is tired of the parallel meetings being spearhead by Fayose, which usually happens after the main structure held their own.
Olafeso and some other factional State Chairmen, was said to be making plans to join the main structure, to contest during the Zonal and State congresses, rather than staying with Fayose whose intention is to use and later dump them, which they fear will set them against the party and their followers.
Although, a source close to Fayose political family said he may be planning a counter or parallel congress, or shop for a quick court order to stop the authentic structure of the party, however, all of that seems to be effort in futility because, he has no mandate to lead the party legally and officially, moreover, those he is banking on as footsoldiers are defecting from his camp to the main and legally recognized organ of the party in South West.
Fayose, had in the past held several parallel meetings with the factional Chairmen of Lagos, Mr Deji Doherty, Ogun, Osun and Ekiti Bisi Kolawole, but they are reportedly making a U-Turn so that they won't lose out completely with the authentic structure of the party being led by the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.
One of the chairmen in the camp of Fayose, after their meeting on Tuesday who wants to remain anonymous said, I am now at crescendo, utterly lost and tired of Fayose's empty propaganda which will not take us anywhere, I have spoken to my colleagues, we will rather disembark from this killer vehicle and board on a peace transit, he was quoted as saying.
Those close to the main Structure said that Governor Seyi Makinde is aggressively mobilizing more members into the PDP and also making robust plans to move the party forward ahead of the 2023 election, thereby calling on all the erring members to return to the main fold.
As part of his plans to settle internal crisis, a peace and reconciliation committee headed by the former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola was set up, and has been going from one State to the other, ensuring that members are united, while those with genuine concern are attended to.
Ahead of the congress, zonal leaders of the part met on Tuesday in Ibadan to discuss the way forward for the party and the upcoming congress. The meeting was well attended by the la creme of the party from Lagos, Ogun, Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and Oyo State.
Report from the meeting said that there are some concensus reached over the position of the South West Chairman, which was unanimously agreed by the Stakeholders.
Fayose is facing a serious revolt from his home State over his plan to foist the factional State Chairman, Bisi Kolawole on PDP as the governorship candidate ahead of the 2022 governorship election in Ekiti State. His former Deputy Governor, Prof. Eleka has raised an army of supporters that are battle ready to face Fayose.
The former governor is also in a running battle with the only PDP Senator in the State, Biodun Olujimi, over the control of the party structure in Ekiti State.
There was an allegation against Fayose that he is working to frustrate the efforts of the PDP in South West because of his support for the Presidential ambition of APC National Leader, Senator Bola Tinubu.
There have been several attempts by both the reconciliation committee headed by Oyinlola and River state Governor, Wike to bring Fayose to the main structure, but he continues to create more bottle necks for them, which some members says it corroborate the rumor that he is working for the APC to distabilize PDP in South West.
Politics / True Story; False Alarm Video About Ayete, Oyo State It Is Very Unkind, Disre by Laspotect247(m): 10:51am On Feb 07, 2021
False Alarm Video about Ayete, Oyo State
It is very unkind, disrespectful, uncouched for anyone to want to call the attention of the governor to an issue, and start it by using very insulting, derogatory words for a complain without evidence.
A video was done by a man who allegedly raised an alarm that two villages in Ayete has been seized by Fulani militias, he further said all the Yoruba Residents/indigenous occupiers in that community have all been killed, this is a False news from the deepest part of hell.
Further and independent investigation shows that this is a terrible lie from the pit of hell, aimed at further incitement of the public against the government.
The true position of the matter is that, some Fulanis who are illegally occupying lands are been asked to documentally be integrated into the community, in line with the government directives, a minor scuffle which has now been resolved is what this satanic agent made video over and started broadcasting on social media, in the process calling the government all sorts of names.
The public must slow down in the way they take these satanic agent of chaos and misinformation serious. The fake news purveyors won't tell you that in the Ibarapa axis, there have been lots of cross marriage between the Yorubas and Fulanis, which started several decades ago.
People must know that it is wrong to keep spreading false allegation, or putting information capable of causing ethnic riot or crisis. For instance, the way the man alleged that Yorubas in Ayete were killed, this he said with no single evidence, either photo or video proof, what if Yorubas in other communities begins to attack and kill Innocent Fulanis?
Unfortunately, some Stakeholders, who have the resources to check the veracity of the allegation are also sharing and further spreading the fake video. It is important that before reacting to such news, one must first pause, do a quick fact check before joining the bandwagon.
In this age and time of information technology, authentication of any news does not take more than 5 minutes, as the whole world is now a global village made possible by technological advancement.
Finally, the critical Stakeholders must not fall for the wishes of the oppositions and those who don't wish this government well, who are constantly looking for a way to defame the lofty achievements of Governor Seyi Makinde with issues of Insecurity. The goverment is not resting in its pursuit to put every security threats to a halt, but we must not create imaginary security challenges where one do not exist.
Gov Makinde Declares War Against Kidnappers, Criminals in Ibarapa, Oke Ogun
Says we can’t lose more lives to insecurity
…’to meet Ibarapa traditional rulers’
We’ll compensate victims of Ibarapa crisis, gov says
Governor ‘Seyi Makinde of Oyo State declared on Monday that the state government has turned the heat on kidnappers and criminals in Ibarapa and Oke-Ogun axis of the state, adding that the state will succeed in routing them.
Governor Makinde, who was speaking at different spots in Ibarapaland where he engaged the people in town hall meetings, said that his administration will get the criminals to account for their heinous acts in the state.
He equally declared that the state could not afford to lose any more lives to insecurity, stating, however, that any action that must be taken must be guided by the realisation that a wrong solution must not be proffered in order to avoid unintended consequences.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Mr. Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the governor stated these in Ibarapaland during meetings at Idere, Igangan and during visits to the homes of the late Dr. Fatai Aborode and others who lost their lives to the crisis in the area.
Governor Makinde, who equally commiserated with Mrs. Idowu Babarinde, who lost a child to indiscriminate shooting by kidnappers in their attempt to kidnap a filling station owner in Idere, said he was pained by the losses recorded in the area, adding that he felt the pain of the people of Ibarapaland.
“I decided to spend the night in Ibarapaland so as to let you know that if my people in this place cannot sleep with two eyes closed, I cannot also sleep with my two eyes closed in Ibadan,” the governor said, adding that the visit afforded him the opportunity of feeling the pains of the people first-hand.
He said: “We are turning the heat on the criminal elements and we will surely get them.”
He stated that the government will compensate victims of the insecurity situation in Ibarapaland, adding that measures that the government is taking to curtail the situation include the setting up of an all-inclusive peace and security committee at the local government levels and the stepping up intelligence gathering in the area.
According to him, “one of the things we want to do is, we must have a peace and security committee at the local government level, which will be all-encompassing. “Those people that are supposed to be there and can contribute meaningfully must be accommodated.
“So, I have listened to you. I came here purposely to sleep over to demonstrate that your problem is also my problem. If you cannot sleep with your two eyes closed, I also have no business sleeping with my two eyes closed in Ibadan.”
He further stated that the government will convene a meeting with traditional rulers in Ibarapaland in the next few days with a view to coming up with recommendations on the situation, warning that emergency situations as such should have been brought to the attention of the government long before it escalated.
Governor Makinde, who clarified that though he was misunderstood for the position he took during the crisis, he is not afraid to speak out but that he would not allow anyone to start ethnic war under his watch.
He added that the failure of communication, intelligence gathering and other factors led to the escalation of the crisis in the area and that though his government would take responsibility for some of the challenges, security challenges cannot be solved in one day.
The governor warned political office holders, community leaders and stakeholders in the area to treat emergency situations as sensitive and bring such to the attention of government on time, stating that claims that letters were written to him were faulty.
He told political leaders of the area not to shy away from seeking audience with him wherever there is a gap that must be bridged.
He added that apart from the immediate deployment of 200 additional Amotekun Corps to Ibarapaland, he has also instructed that the agency and other security apparatuses step up on intelligence gathering, stating that the government will also fast-track its identity management policy so that it could know who lives where in the state.
The governor equally warned residents of the state not to stigmatise any particular ethnic group but to search out the real enemies who he said are the kidnappers, bandits, rapists, hoodlums and armed robbers.
At the home of the Aborodes, where the governor commiserated with the father of the late Aborode, Governor Makinde said: “I want to tell you that I feel your pain, because when I saw the news of the death of Dr. Fatai Aborode, I was seriously pained.
“In 2017, when we were striving to restructure the PDP, we started meetings and put some people in some local governments. Dr. Aborode was made the point man in Ibarapa North. I was at Ibadan in charge of Ibadan North-East and we did hold meetings at Premier Hotel. The situation is that if a tsetse fly perches on one’s private part, it requires wisdom to make it fly away or to kill it.
“Everybody is alleging that the Police are not giving us enough support while Amotekun and Operation Burst are really being supportive. But what the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria states is that whatever bothers on internal security should be handled by the Police.
“That is why some of us have said the federal control of Police is limiting their performance. That was why we requested for State Police and we know it is a constitutional issue.
“So, when we got into government, we observed there was no State Police and we did not want to drop the idea. Those who were of the opinion that State Police may be used for political reasons also have their own point but if there is an alignment, people will see that the noticeable gap in policing should be bridged.
“When the discussion was going on, the IGP also agreed that there is a gap and that was why they recruited for community policing but we think that is not enough to bridge the existing gap. That was why we requested state policing and when we did not get that, we resorted to Amotekun as a stop-gap arrangement while the issue of the constitution review is going on.
“So, I would like to say that most of our compatriots have been cut down in their prime; we regret it and the solution is we must not lose more lives unnecessarily. That is very fundamental. So, anything we want to do, one thing that must guide us is the fact that we must not lose more lives.”
Governor Makinde stated that the crisis escalated due to failures on different fronts, saying: “There are failures on a number of fronts and one of the fronts we are witnessing failure was when some are saying they wrote letters to my office. I said I will love to see the acknowledgment copies to know where those letters are, who acknowledged them, and the prayers you made too.
“When I saw the acknowledgment letters, I saw that one of them was dated 27th of January, the earliest one was 20th of January and that is when the cases had escalated.
“Anything about security, I approve instantly because most of the things we want to do in Oyo State, ranging from economy, good education for our children and other things are hinged on a safe and secure environment. I believe there is a failure in that communication.
“Any emergency situation must be treated as an emergency. There is nothing that should stop you (chairmen) from telling us there is an emergency situation, which requires you to sit down with the governor. So, I have seen the failure we have to address and we have to ensure that, moving forward, wherever there is a gap, we must bridge instantly.”
On the trust deficit between Fulani herdsmen resident in the state and the local residents, the governor stated that the state will fast-track the identity management scheme that will help to identify who lives where in the state, warning, however, everyone must strive to keep the peace.
“Some of the problems have been existing for years. It is not all Fulani people that are criminals, I must tell you. Some of those caught after a robbery operation at Okeho were Igbira from Kogi State.
“So, we must strive and do the work that can keep our environment safe. There are few things the government has promised to do and the central part of it, which we think will help our situation is identity management. We want to know who is where.
“This week, after the whole issue started escalating, I asked the committee we set up to look into that but they had already formed an inter-ministerial committee. Immediately I noticed, I dissolved it and gave the S.A on ICT single-point responsibility and a time-frame to get it done. This is an unusual time.
“What happened in Rwanda will not be our portion. If anyone wants to ignite war in Nigeria,bit won’t be from here and won’t be under my own watch. We will find a solution to the challenges facing us because we know there are challenges.”
He also warned against attempts by some individuals to politicise the insecurity situation, noting that after his administration ends, the state would remain to face the consequences of their actions.
While speaking at Idere, the governor said though he could be accused of anything on the crisis in Ibarapaland, he could not be accused of not loving his people, saying that before he became governor, the people demonstrated love for him.
He said: “I feel your pain and I am not taking your love for granted. Those who want to politicise the situation were the ones saying I should have visited here but, the truth is, I needed feedback. And it was deliberate that the document we brought out in 2019, security is one of the pillars that we say this administration would rest upon.
“It was deliberate for me to stay here overnight. One thing I want to take away is that we are all together to solve this problem. I don’t want further needless loss of lives, whether Fulani or Yoruba or anybody and we all need to come together.
” There are criminals from all over and we also have the issue of fake news. Sometimes, we don’t know which news is true and the fake one. They have given the security agencies a run around.
“Deliberately, some elements will send fake news out and security agencies will still expend the limited resources to chase after something that is not real. But we should not be looking back. We are where we are right now and we must think-out solutions that will move us forward with minimal disruptions and loss of lives.
“Within the next one week, we will summon the meeting Kabiyesi asked us to call for. One of the initiatives of the government is, we need to know who is where and that is why I asked them to fast track the policy of identity management in Oyo State. Be it okada riders, be it Fulani herdsmen, we want to know you and know what you are doing.
“So, I solicit your support and we will deploy resources to get it done.
“By God’s grace, very soon, all of us will begin to sleep with our two eyes closed. But we all have to do it together. If you see something, say something to us. Always remind those who are going about, insisting they must politicise the issue of security in the state too.”
During the different stops, traditional rulers, political leaders, youth leaders and other stakeholders took turns to brief the governor of the challenges they have been dealing with in the hands of herdsmen from 2008 and kidnappers, especially in recent times.
The royal fathers, however, commended Makinde for the security strategy he put in place in the last two weeks, during which they are yet to witness any case of kidnapping.
PRESS STATEMENT ON THE CLOSURE OF NIGERIAN SCHOOLS BY FG
It is sad that in a society where development and growth should be the core desire, it chooses to derail and nullify the values of development.
Education is a key factor to nation building especially for countries which desire the best for its people not a like nigeria which bastardized the relevance of education in the various spheres most especially in our tertiary institution system. From untenable ASUU STRIKES to scrupolous increment in fees to unreasonable closure of schools across the country. It is sad to hear that our government has again chosen to shutdown schools again all in the name of curbing covid-19 and still yet market places, religious bodies and other unstructured institution are opened and have truly show that the government is misplacing her priorities.
We make to say that we kick against the said closure of institutions of learning even after many has been at home as a result of 9 months of Covid 19 Pandemic and ASUU Strike.
This are young adults above the age of 16 who can actually adhere to instructions and coordinate themselves as long as institutions management can put appropriate measure in place in schools which it is expected for them to have down long before now! So why lockdown schools again!? Students spending 3years in a particular academic year is catastrophic and demonic in nature and a show of the incapability of the incubement government for lack of empathy on the educational journey of Nigerian Students.
We however, urge the federal government to let the January 18th resumption date to stand and dialogue with stakeholders in the education sector in order to provide a safe environment for students and staffs which include the use of both physical and online methods of learning, rearrangement of time table, and providing necessary materials such as sanitizer and face masks among others.
BEING A PRESS STATEMENT OF THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS NANS JCC LAGOS AXIS
The year 2020 have been a tough year for Students and our families as the year saw an out break of the Covid 19 pandemic with the ASUU saga which lasted for months thereby causing delay in academic activities across our institutions of learning.
Indeed, in 2020 we have lost loved ones and lost our incomes for so many families due to the pandemic and the sinking economy.
In the new year we urge our students to remain strong and focus on how to recover from last year damages also bearing in mind that second wave of the pandemic is still causing serious problems to the world at large
In 2021, The Association will continue to protect and promote the interest of students towards having better development for the students, our institutions and our dear state.
Part of our programs includes the lunching of NANS FOUNDATION which will help to provide scholarship worth #10,000 for 200 Students across the state and empower more than 100 Students to cushion the effect of the pandemic and economic recession on the life of our students.
Also, we are in talks with telecommunication companies to provide free internet on our campuses.
Let us assure our students that we will bring the association closer to students as promised. This Administration is keen on the DEVELOPMENT& REBIRTH of NANS .
NANS JCC Lagos also commend the effort of our Governor who's administration have continued to work tirelessly to make our institutions world class, Which results can be seen on our state owned campuses.
We also use this medium to appeal to his Excellency to provide mobilization for students unions across the state to further ease their day to day interactions.
In the same vein, the association appreciate the effort of Barr Tokunbo Wahab the special adviser to the Governor on Education for the fatherly role towards providing support to the association and we pray 2021 will be the continuation of a new Dawn.
Finally, the association thank the students unions presidents, stakeholders, students government agencies, head of institutions for their support and encouragement during the year 2020 we believe we can do more in 2021.
Thanks
COMMUNIQUE OF THE NANS JCC LAGOS 2020 TRANSITION CONVENTION
It's highly disheartening to see leaders of tomorrow go below the threshold of mediocrity in the quest for power.
There is a baseless communique and pictures of kitchen convention held by some unscrupulous elements in the state. They have turned the constitution upside down just to fulfil their quest for power and satisfy their selfish interests.
We can pretend not to see them and their child's play but we just want to clear the public that the one and only legit NANS JCC Lagos axis chairman still remain Comr. Rasheed Ogunsanya(RATIO) any other chairman is a counterfeit. We therefore advice those who are pushing Samuel Olalere(Samgrin) to become a leader without followers to desist.
The constitution of NANS JCC Lagos axis provides that no convention can hold without the simple majority senators but the irrational past jcc chairman in person of Comr. Qowiyy had became blind to the provision of the constitution.
We hereby call on the attention of leaders, stakeholders, comrades and everyone in the students community to disregard any information stating Samuel Olalere(SAMGRIN) as the chairman, it's totally baseless.
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN (NANS) JOINT CAMPUS COMMITTEE LAGOS AXIS
Great  Nigerian students,
In as much as we want our voices to be heard against police brutality and bad governance in the country I urge us to shun all forms of violence.
As an association we condemned the use of life bullets on Nigerians during the peaceful protest at lekki toll gate and across Lagos State.
Lagos is our home and we can't afford to lose  it to destruction by hoodlums who have hijacked the well organized and peaceful protests across the state and country at large.
As an association we will continue to engage the Government also make sure the offenders are brought to book and there is a compensation to the families who lost any members of their family.
The association urge all Nigerian students to stay safe, and ensure that all news posted are from verified source, fake news will only fuel the chaos at hand and expose people to danger.
 Finally, We also encourage Student leaders in various institutions to enlighten students on the need to remain safe and not to engage in any form of violence.
LAGOS IS OUR HOME.
Education / Nans Lagos Asks Sanwoolu To Call Political Thugs To Order; Gives Governor 24 Hou by Laspotect247(m): 12:52pm On Oct 15, 2020
NANS LAGOS ASKS SANWOOLU TO CALL POLITICAL THUGS TO ORDER; GIVES GOVERNOR 24 HOURS ULTIMATUM
The leadership of National Association of Nigerian students (NANS) Lagos axis have been drawn to reports from students who have engaged in the peaceful protest of ENDSARS been attacked by political sponsored thugs who in turn beat and molest students and protesters
The association had earlier encouraged our students to join the protests in their community and make our voices heard for a better Nigeria Reformation of the Nigerian police force especially F-SARS who have killed so many promising students.
Our silence as an association should never be taken for granted by the governor and we will not watch our students be molested, beaten or killed by these sponsored thugs.
On this note, Students hereby give His Excellency Mr Babajide Sanwoolu 24hours ultimatium with immediate effect as the Chief Security officer of the state to provide security for the peaceful protesters and call to order political office holders or politicians who are sponsoring the thugs.
Should there be any attack on the protesters again in the next 24hours the Nigerian Students would make Lagos State ungovernable for him and his cabinet members.
