*Delivering Effective unionism* : my account on *Yusuf Ismail* (leading presidential aspirant)

Written by *@omobabaijebu101* on Twitter.

*Greatest Nigeria students!! Articulate Laspotians!!*

It's no longer a news that my brother,  The symbol of hope is no longer in the race of the top most seat of the union, it's within my right as a student of this great institution to search for credible candidate, which I feel has the interest of students at heart, the search went four couple of days, and after declaration of position by various candidate, my brother *Yusuf Ismail* happens to be the best man for the job.

In this piece, I will take us around on the achievement and what the *Yusuf Ismail* administration is all about, it's benefit to Laspotians and a need for us to support him.

Within our school, *Yusuf Ismail* has been useful to his department, faculty and the entire school, in the year 2016/2017 he was the Vice President for the department of food technology, his immense contribution to the development are there for record purposes, little wonder he enjoys the support of all members of the department.

In terms of leadership he has shown to be distinctive during his time at UTIVA in 2017 where he served as the team lead, with the help of God he has been able to deliver in every capacity of leadership he finds himself, this is divinely given and I believe he will reciprocate such when he's elected as the president of the student union government.

He was a volunteer member at the Lagos Digital Summit, 2018 and Marketting Edge Summit 2019 coupled with his role as the social media manager for let's learn Africa, this is to tell you how digital our school will be, the social media presence, using this mediums to increase the finance of our institution.

The *Yusuf Ismail* administration will be an all inclusive one, where every one's opinions count, he's youthful, unique, smart, faithful and has a great understanding on how the union government is runned.

His intellectual capacity and his mode of addressing issue is top notch, very responsive and responsible in discharging his duties, what more do you need of a president, *Yusuf Ismail* is a 7 in 1 package that all Laspotians must embrace, support and vote him in the next election.

A *Yusuf Ismail* administration will bring about stiff competition with other schools who will be trying to emulate his style of governance, Laspotians will be proud of his administration and will be great full to God for giving us the kind of leader we have.

I have a great faith in him that he will perform beyond expectations and I'm calling on fellow students to also look at the choices before us, put them on a scale of preference and see what I'm saying about his candidature, let's come out en mass to support him and vote him on election day.

I remain *Omobabaijebu*.

Depression which happens to be the cause of suicide didn't start today, it affect everyone irrespective of the complexion, marital status, financial status and so on. According to wikipedia, SUICIDE is the act of intentionally causing one's own death. Mental disorders, including depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, anxiety disorders, and substance abuse—including alcoholism and the use of benzodiazepines—are risk factors. Some suicides are impulsive acts due to stress, such as from financial difficulties, troubles with relationships, or bullying.

Suicide is a complex issue involving numerous factors and should not be attributed to any single cause. Not everyone who took their life was diagnosed with mental illness and not all people with  mental illness make an attempt to take their life. Suicide often stems from a deep feeling of hopelessness, the inability to see solutions to problems or to cope with challenging life circumstances may lead people to see suicide as the only option to what is really a temporary situation.

Depression is a key risk factor for suicide; others include psychiatric disorders, substance use, chronic pain, a family history of suicide, and a prior suicide attempt. Suicide is the result of actions taken to deal with intolerable mental anguish and pain, fear or despair that overwhelms an individual’s value for living and hope in life.

At the end of the tunnel, there is always light but it takes consistency and perseverance to see the light. Suicide has become a norm among the youths of the in our community, rejection also make people depressed, but that is not enough, when you are rejected you always work on a better version of yourself ,Criticism leads to confusion, Confusion leads to deep thought
Deep thought leads to depression Depression leads to suicide. You have to value your life and always give it a second thought, speak up for your helper might be behind.

We all have the potential to turn a negative situation into a positive situation so why having a thought that can claim your life when all our dreams can come true. Developing courage to fight any situation is one step to fight against being depressed. Are you feeling miserable? depressed? sad or despondent, just sit back and think of the best moments you've ever had and the better things God have for you.

There are some notable people who have fought suicide and have we will be sharing the story of few and we hope it get you motivated.

In 1967, Johnny Cash was mired in a deep addiction to amphetamines and barbiturates. Abandoning all hope, the beloved country crooner drove to Nickajack Cave in Chattanooga, Tenn., where he aspired to get totally lost in the pitch blackness and die. After a few hours, however, he claims to have heard the voice of God himself telling him to hang in there; when he eventually found his way out of the caverns, he was greeted by his wife and mother, who later said they felt drawn to the site because they sensed something wasn’t quite right with the Man in Black. He would go on to record music for another three and a half decades – winning heaps of Grammys along the way – before succumbing to natural causes in 2003.

Elton John song “Somebody Saved My Life Tonight?” Well, it’s based on a true story – specifically, the time John collaborator Bernie Taupin literally yanked his head out of an oven to keep him from asphyxiating on gas. It wasn’t the only time the flamboyant frontman tried to check out of the mortal coil, though. John also tried to kill himself by downing 60 Valiums a few years later – ironically, smackdab in the middle of “Elton John Week” in Los Angeles. Now 69, the “Rocket Man” remains one of the most successful musicians on the planet, raking in an impressive $42 million in 2016 alone.

In 1996, Marshall “Eminem” Mathers was a struggling Detroit-area rapper whose debut album “Infinite” was a colossal financial flop. After his girlfriend Kim left him and he lost custody of his daughter, the dejected artist sought to end it all via a Tylenol overdose. Mathers survived the attempt and less than a year later, one of his mixtapes was discovered by rap producer extraordinaire Dr. Dre – and since then, the once-suicidal rapper has “only” gone on to sell an estimated 172 million albums worldwide.

Suicide is wrong even in the religious setting, and that is why we at laspotech hype deem it fit to write about this and make an awareness towards committing suicide which is now rampant, also with the latest tragic event that happened in our school, it is high time we all come together and speak against this devilish act.

Education / Laspotech 2019 Election : Setting The Records Straight by Laspotect247(m): 5:49pm On May 09, 2019
*LASPOTECH 2019 student union election: SETTING THE RECORDS STRAIGHT.*

Just as we move closer to the student union government election, it's no longer a news that student  from various departments have declared interest to run for different position, while some are still not sure of what post they would contest for, some are ready and are already hitting the ground.

So therefore we must set the record straight, considering all available options the symbol of hope conveneer seems ready and fits to lead the student union body and here is why.

In year 2016  our leader *JAMES OLUWATOSIN SAMUEL* PKA *SYMBOL OF HOPE* was elected as the vice president of national association of science and technology student (NASTES), he recorded great success.
When the Rotary club of laspotech introduced operation make laspotech clean, an operation that involves the proper sanitation of the school environment, ensuring that students are free from germs, he took it upon himself as the vice president, participated in the process of making our great institution clean and free for all.

In the Area of health, our leader *JAMES OLUWATOSIN SAMUEL* joined the rotary club of laspotech and other critical stateholders in the health sector to provide free medical test for student, educating them on their state of health and to God be the glory sanitary was restored to our great institution .

The welfarism of the students was paramount to him , and he did all he can to ensure that every student of the association enjoys its dividend.

The question is if as a vice president of an association he can achieve all this by volunteering himself what do you think he will do when the mantle of leadership is passed to him?

He will do wonders and the we will all be amazed, the hope of the students is coming, and the  face of unionism will be restored, we're all students will be able to lend their voices and contribute their quota in the development of our dear school.

This vision can only be achieved if we rally around *JAMES OLUWATOSIN SAMUEL.*

Support and Embrace the symbol of hope.

Nairaland / General / Opinion: Oh My Laspotech Hope Is Coming by Laspotect247(m): 11:25am On Apr 28, 2019
OH MY LASPOTECH THE SYMBOL OF HOPE IS COMING :by omobabaijebu

Fellow laspotians:

I woke up this morning tired and thinking about all the stress I will undergo in school tommorow, which made me more sick, then I realize the words of Robert fulghum in 1892 which says

"I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge. That myth is more potent than history. That dreams are more powerful than facts. That hope always triumphs over experience. That laughter is the only cure for grief. And I believe that love is stronger than death."

My freind oluwatosin popularly known as SYMBOL OF HOPE has the experience, the knowledge, and the understanding of student politics, his urge for a good student union government that will accommodate all gave me hope that indeed laspotech will be great.

Yes there is hope and the Bible confirmed it in Isiah 40:31a but those who hope in the lord they shall renew their strength.

There's is a hope of good governance, quality welfarism, education, reformed health section among others and this can only be achieved if we support the man of the people, the symbol of hope.
I have known him for some time, his accountability and transparency spirit is incomparable and he will deliver on his promise.

Comparing the way unionism is run in laspotech compared to other schools you will agree with me that there's a need for a reformed student union government with proper representation and consideration of the three C of aluta.

Laspotians should make no mistake of electing incapable hands because our school must move forward, our passion for good governance must not die and we must push for the person that represent the interest of the student populace.

On this note I enjoin you to support and embrace the symbol of hope.

Aluta continua! Victoria Arceta!

Education / Opinion: The Need For A Vibrant Unionism And Activism In Laspotech by Laspotect247(m): 6:00pm On Mar 27, 2019

Opinion: The need for a vibrant unionism and activism in laspotech.

By @lasspotech24/7.

Greatest Nigeria students, Ever sagacious laspotians today  I write to you on the need to consolidate the effort of our past student leaders and also rebuilding the image of student unionism in laspotech.

Why do we need a union?

This is the question on the lips of every student in our nation  who felt betrayed by the actions of our leaders, who have turned unionism to a negotiations platform for politicians and school authorities at the detriment of the students.

Unionism is meant for the student, to enjoy, have access to information concerning them and assuring them of hope for a better tomorrow, through proper consolidation, consultation and confrontation with the management.

The game is game but the game as changed, unionism has been hijacked by mediocres leaving students in the lions den.

Bad leadership is like cancer to every developing institution and must be eradicated at early stage before its destroys the institution completely.

Why do we need a vibrant unionist in laspotech?

As a new student in the school, I would like to commend the leadership who has done one or two things to keep the union moving forward, but their best is not enough and there is a need for us restructure unionism in laspotech.

The lingering crises between the non teaching staff and the management is another show of shame and a weakness on the path of the student union body, the SUG without taking sides is suppose to write both parties, thereby restoring peace back to the campus.

It's is also observed that there's a comunication gap between the union leaders and the student, which has made it difficult for the students to question the attitude and activities of the student union leaders.

In the course of my research I also find out that the union leaders at the end of their tenure fail to give an account on how they utilize the funds avaliable to them, if a union leader who as  promised us accountability and transparency during electioneering period, he should be able to tell us the state of the finance of the association in which we all contributed to.

Capital projects: it has been the usual manner of all student union leaders to share note books and other inferior stuffs as their capital project, this should be rejected by all well meaning laspotians, the Era of exercise book should be gone, the union should engage critical stake holders on what to do and how to go about it, instead of offering peanuts to students and the end of the year.

Laspotians should crave for someone who represent their interest, some one who can't be compromise, someone who's ready to take up the battle, ensuring that all laspotians have one or two reasons to smile.

In my next column I would be talking more about who I feel can take us to that greater laspotech we desire.

God bless laspotech.
