Start with a budget first. It helps show the big picture.

10% of my income goes to my pension which is untouchable till I am 55 years. A long term by force account might help someone like you.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: What Is The Worth Of A Phd Financially? by lurkee(f): 1:20pm On Feb 08, 2013
A PhD alone will not bring you wealth, it depends on what you do with. A goal getting BSc holder can do better than a PhD holder.

I know someone who just completed his PhD in 3 years, immediately got a job paying £2500 per month (take home). I know another who with his PhD got a record promotion and is now leading a research team of 10 in 5 years in a top company in the healthcare field - mega bucks!

Some others go to academia (rubbish pay but stable lifestyle), some get a normal job like any other degree holder.

I personally will not do a PhD out of money unless you see an opening in a company that interests you and you need it. You have to know what you enjoy, what kind of job you want to get with your PhD and whether your PhD is relevant to that opportunity.

They look great and happy together. It seems like she got a tall, dark, handsome and rich man at the ripe age of 33. Some people like to put age limits to good things: job by 22, marriage by 24, million by 25 and etc. There is no age limit to happiness. grin

They are both so fine, I cannot wait to see wedding pics.

Side note: I really do not like public proposals.

Fashion / Re: Do You Feel Comfortable Wearing Trunks And Bikini At Beach? by lurkee(f): 3:21pm On Jan 01, 2013
I am very comfy wearing a bikini on the beach. I don't feel self conscious considering some women are topless sef. I remember when I was in St Tropez and both men and women were fully n.aked on the beach. I'm an adult and those things don't faze me.

However I probably wouldn't on a Nigerian beach. Unless its a private beach with civilised people. Lol. I have never been to a beach in Nigeria so I don't know.

I hope this post doesn't sound too haughty. undecided

I wish people will stop feeling guilty about mastur.bation. It is completely natural. You are not hurting yourself or others from doing it. It is touching your own body. Why carry all that guilt for no reason?

I remember when I was so sin-focused I used to feel guilty all the time. I was always praying for forgiveness because I was taught even thinking about things is a sin. Everything is a sin. I decided to free myself from that bondage and now I rarely deny myself anything.
Romance / Re: Is It Advisable To Date A Fellow Course Mate? by lurkee(f): 6:52pm On Sep 19, 2012
FRANKLINTON: Can this type of relationship work out? Remember, you attend lectures and stay in the same class with him/her- that means you'll likely be seeing each other too often. Generally, are these kind of relationship successful?

I cannot speak in general but in my experience, these kinds of relationships can work out

Met my boyfriend in the first month of Uni in class and five years later we are still together. We both graduated with a first class, both got excellent jobs prior to graduation. We are now working and still happily together.

I think university or class is a great place to meet a potential mate for life. After Uni and work starts, the pickings become very slim. I will advise my daughters to do this also. All these rubbish "Face your studies" advice is why some people remain single for so long.

It is possible to be career oriented and have a romantic relationship.

Family / Re: The Most Suitable Job For A Married Woman? by lurkee(f): 6:04pm On Sep 17, 2012
It annoys me when people suggest that a married woman should start her own trading business. Not everybody wants to be a trader or own a saloon. A lot of people are happy salary earners.

Anyway I am an electrical engineer and will remain so even after marriage. There is no suitable job for a married woman, everyone has different ambitions and dreams. My own preference is to spend evenings and weekends with my family, during the day I will do whatever job I want while cleaners and cooks do the boring household duties for me.

Look at the bolded:

tyson55: Guinness World Records 2013 lists Michigan dog as world's tallest Dog in the world. The Great Dane Zeus Standing on his hind legs, stretches to 7-foot (2.13-meter)-4-inch (101.-millimeter) and towers over his owner, Denise Doorlag. Zeus is just an inch taller than the previous record-holder, Giant George. Zeus weighs 155 pounds (70 kilograms) and eats around 12 cups of food a day. That's equivalent to one 30-pound (13.6-kilogram) bag of food.

The three-year-old Great Dane's owner Denise Doorlag told AFP: “The most common thing people ask is: ‘Is that a dog or a horse?' We had to get a van to be able to transport him, oh, and if he steps on your foot he leaves bruises!”

Kobojunkie: I am reminded of the story, in the Bible of the prophet, Hosea, whose wife was a harlot, and he waited on here hand and foot until she got tired of her harlotry, and yes, he was the one who went to get her back home, after so many years.

If all of you quoting bible and making claims that the woman by fixing herself fixed her husband, is it OK then to wish that God put you all in similar position, as he put that bible prophet, so that he will use you all, as an example to others out there(husbands who do not know how to handle their philandering wives)?

The kingdom is in need of people, more like prophet Hosea, to show others the way and since you all seem to know how it should work, what better way than to have you show by example what it is you mean. Can I get an Amen?

Amen X 100

Then the men will say according to the bible, divorce is allowed because of adultery. angry angry

dwas:

It is true that humanly speaking, you cant tolerate a serial cheater, but God's grace can always make the different. Don't forget we all are serial sinners (breakers of Gods commandments everyday). He still forgives. He may decides to neglect you, but he never did. Talk about daily provisions (Foods, drinks, air you breath, seeing, hearing, etc) we cant quantify his mercy on our lives as we daily throw it back to his face. My prayer is that your hubby and you should live happily with the blesses children God gave to you. Stay bless my sister

The God I serve will not give me grace to handle rubbish that will endanger my well being. What kind of yeye grace is that. The man needs grace to be more disciplined and faithful to his wife, not the wife. You sound like a nice person but see life is too short to be unhappy. No one gets a do over. If you spend 40 years miserable and then your spouse changes in their old age, you have just wasted 40 years of your life.

I seem to be rambling now. Anyway hope you get my point that no one should encourage women to stay with serial cheaters. Women have power and by giving it to the man who does not deserve it, we lose out.

I reject men that agree with the OP from my life and that of my sisters'. Eek. The look away mentality cannot work for me. There is massive difference between a mistake and a deliberate act of repetitive cheating.

I will always choose being a single mother than to be wife of a serial cheater.

You cannot change someone like others have mentioned, the woman has learnt to cope for herself but she should keep her rotten advice to herself. It will not encourage any healthy marriage.

To the person that said Apple is quality and that is why it is expensive: You are wrong. Apple is selling its name. I have used an iPhone 3GS and at exactly 2 years it got so slow and the battery needed replacing. Which means I had to take it back to apple. The excellent thing about them is their customer service. Cost me only £50 for a brand new 3GS.

I might get the 5 because I feel the interface is "cleaner" than Android's.

Nigerian are so outwardly religious! So you need a list to tell you to pray? What about people who do not believe in prayer, what should they do? The advice is practical and can be applied regardless of religious affiliations.

Anyway, the list is too long. At work, I turn on my PC, as it boots up, I go and get tea. I reply to emails and then make a small list of what needs doing for the day. Catch up with manager if necessary. Shikena.

Not married but I would not advice it. Especially if you want a career. As soon as you marry, it will become a case of when are you going to have kids. Then people will tell you to listen to your husband and have the kids. I am not sure how old you are but it is worth thinking about.

Also, why are people quick to say "Learn a trade", "Do business" like it is so easy. angry Not everyone is good or would even enjoy buying and selling of goods.

Tenderly1: it is going to spread

I really hope not. It is clear the UK is really fighting imminigration. First, they cancelled post study visa so no way to stay after studies. Now they are preventing people from coming in. They are not granting permanent residency after 5 years of work anymore. Need to earn more than 35K first. What's next? Deportation of all immigrants?

I really feel bad for students of this university. Joining another university (if lucky to find one in 60 days) will still be tough.

Homepage please. I think everyone should know about this. This is such a shame to the UK. This is a big setback for the students of the university.
Education / Attention: Uk Revokes The License Of London Met University To Admit Int Students by lurkee(f): 9:47am On Aug 30, 2012
A London university has been banned from teaching overseas students, leaving more than 2,000 undergraduates potentially facing deportation.

London Metropolitan University has had its right to sponsor students from outside the EU revoked, and will no longer be allowed to authorise visas.

Ministers have concerns over issues such as whether or not students are working instead of attending courses.

A task force has been set up to help students affected by the decision.

The UK Border Agency said it had "failed to address serious and systemic failings" identified six months ago.

As well as stopping the university, which has 30,000 students in total, from accepting new applications, losing the licence could also affect thousands of existing overseas students at the university.

The National Union of Students (NUS) said it could mean more than 2,000 students being deported within 60 days unless they found another sponsor.

'Panic and heartbreak'

The university's Highly Trusted Status (HTS) was suspended last month while the UKBA examined alleged failing, preventing it from being allowed to recruit overseas students.

Immigration Minister Damian Green said London Metropolitan University had failed in three particular areas:

More than a quarter of the students sampled were studying at the university when they had no leave to remain in this country.

A "significant proportion" of checked files found "no proper evidence" that the mandatory English levels had been reached.

Universities must know that students are turning up for their course and are not using a student visa to enter the country for work, but more than half of the records sampled suggested the university "just didn't know" whether students were turning up for classes or not.

A statement posted on the university's website on Wednesday read: "The implications of the revocation are hugely significant and far-reaching, and the university has already started to deal with these.

"It will be working very closely with the UKBA, Higher Education Funding Council for England, the NUS and its own students' union.

"Our absolute priority is to our students, both current and prospective, and the university will meet all its obligations to them."

Although there have been other suspensions, no other UK university has been fully stripped of its ability to recruit overseas students.

The NUS has contacted Prime Minister David Cameron and Home Secretary Theresa May to "express anger at the way that decisions have been made in recent weeks and to reiterate the potentially catastrophic effects on higher education as a £12.5bn per year export industry for the UK".

NUS president Liam Burns said: "This decision will create panic and potential heartbreak for students not just at London Met but also all around the country.

"This heavy-handed decision makes no sense for students, no sense for institutions and no sense for the country. This situation and the botched process by which the decision was arrived at could be avoided if international students were not included in statistics of permanent migrants."

Mr Burns added that UKBA "could very easily have said: 'Well London Met, if you're not capable of taking international students, you're no longer allowed to recruit any more" - instead of saying to all the current, legitimate students: 'You now have to leave the country'".

Help for students

Universities Minister David Willetts has announced a task force to help overseas students affected by the decision, which will include UKBA and the NUS.

He said: "It is important that genuine students who are affected through no fault of their own are offered prompt advice and help, including, if necessary, with finding other institutions at which to finish their studies."

A UKBA spokesman said it had been working with the university since it identified failings six months ago, "but the latest audit revealed problems with 61% of files randomly sampled. Allowing London Metropolitan University to continue to sponsor and teach international students was not an option".

"These are problems with one university, not the whole sector. British universities are among the best in the world - and Britain remains a top-class destination for top-class international students.

"We are doing everything possible, working with Universities UK, to assist genuine students that have been affected."

Romance / Re: What Does Respect Your Husband Mean To You?. by lurkee(f): 11:31pm On Aug 29, 2012
I am not sure what respect means also. It is such a general term, always thrown around to indicate whether a relationship is good or not.

"All you need is Trust and Respect"

What does respect exactly mean?

In my own shallow understanding, I think respect is about acknowledging the husband as a human being equal to you. Not superior or inferior. Equal.

This means I will not verbally abuse my husband. I will not humiliate or shame him in public. I will seek his opinion first before making major decisions. It means I will have to compromise sometimes for unity. We will always appear as 1 to family and friends. It means I will tell him when he is about to make a mistake. It is about letting him be himself and not trying to change and mould him into someone he is not. It means I will not compare him to Mr Lagbaja. It means I will try to make him happy.

Despite all this, I respect myself first. I expect the same level from respect from my husband. Any deviation and we will have problems. cool
