Properties / Re: Lagos Gives 200 Okun-Ajah Waterfront Property Owners 7-Day Ultimatum by mapet: 6:37pm On Jul 22
Worryingly:
What I always ask is this. Where were these government agencies when all these "illegal structures" were being erected?

Approval or no approval, why were they allowed to build in the first place?

You cant see someone committing a crime.and turn a blind eye only to later come to enforce the law

It's easier to lay the blame on the "Agencies" or Govt. but the truth is that the people involved knew the risks of the illegal activities they embarked upon from the beginning.

1. They start actual building without a building approval
2. They collude with unscrupulous surveyors who help them doctor ("fly"wink coordinates, so that on their application papers, it would look like the applied area is legit. Now this has probably reduced because the process is ditigalized
3. They try to play the long game- bribe inspectors, buy time while accelerating work on the project, initimidate inspectors with Omo-Oniles who physically attack govt inspectors. The quickly occupy the building. Now an inspector cannot carry out further checks, when people have moved in....

If we all learn to do the right thing, follow due process, don't give nor take bribes, we won't have this recurrent issues.

Sir, you did well to explained that, but i'm not an analyst neither an economist, i'm still a learning student. It's obvious that you're an elder on here and seeing that you rarely make comments on here yet you took your time to enlighten me more about the news, big thanks to you sir. Can you be my mentor?

It is for a reason I chose your earlier post. I am not trying to make you feel less, rather to point a lesson. Many a times we make emotional laden posts from a position of ignorance. A lot of our young ones are being misled with "influencers" who themselves are empty, cannot decipher and just pander to the heard.

It is not compulsory to follow a position just because that is what the "Youth" think. The danger is that we end up misguided and we take irrational decisions. Look at Kenya for example. They went to the street on a needless protest. They did not even understand the critical issues at hand and the available options to them. They destroyed their infrastructures, looted small businesses, people died and receeded their limited growth by 2yrs (according to the President). I can tell you that 6months from now, Kenya will swallow their pride and take this same option they protested about... problem is that they will be in worse position.

We should be stimulating higher levels of intellectual conversation here, rather than a needless resort to throwing insults, castigating everything that comes from Govt. For example, we had a $700m debt overhang, if not paid now, then when? How much will it have amounted to if we waited 1yr? What is the upside of having paid this debt? what value is it bringing in ? How do we mitigate problems that lead us to debt and how can we turn it to excess? What this money was borrowed to execute, what value has those project returned?

I want some of you to come out of the pack. You're more intelligent than the average...

AdeCityzen:
It's last night news, but it talk about Edun analysing the economy before the plenary

Even if you had tried to summarize in plain English, it would have been better than this lame submission you put here. The problem is that many like you who should have devoted more time to learning come out with ignorance in gusto.

It is a simple as this...
1. there is the concern of a seeming underfunding of Capital projects
Adeola added that “the N1.84 billion achieved so far out of a N9 trillion capital expenditure component is nothing to write home about.

2. That while the funding of supplimentary budget has been achieved 100%, the main 2023 budget had a deficit trending 50%...

Now separate these 2 from the minister presenting a contextual scorecard that you ignorantly termed "we will"
- Servicing of legacy debt
“We have paid $700m in debt services for 420 na[quote]tional development agencies and others”
- Addressing/monitoring the true position on Ways and Means borrowed
“We are also interrogating the N22.7tn that we met on the ground. We instituted a forensic audit to see the impact.

No sir, that is not enough. Only a fool will keep doing the same thing over and over and expect a different result. Nigerian govt has been training people and giving them cash, but unemployment keep rising. The fact is that the cash u give to the trainees is untracked. They will divert its use to some other domestic need and at the end of the day nobody uses the skills to produce. Govt cant keep wasting cash. It must be trackable and there should be value for money

Your point is now clear...

Well the problem is onboarding those who have no business in such programs in the first place. Govt cannot hold their hands end-to-end, there is a point they must justify the "investment", they must also do the work...
Politics / Re: Nigerian Education Loan Fund To Capture Youths Interested In Skills Development by mapet: 10:34am On Jan 23

its not just acquiring the skills thats the issue, but putting it to good use. Government should invest in a programme that takes care of the entire chain of business, with mentorship and continuity.

Dont just train people and give them cash. Train them and put them to good use, producing exportable products and the earnings used to reward them and train others.

I don't get you, you mean Gov't should spoon-feed people as well? Pls what is this nonsense highlighted? You're trained, given cash to start off and to you that is not enough?

Well, politics is a game of numbers and in this game (at this stage) the numbers are made of delegates who are swayed not by eloquence, rhetoric nor poise but by the whiff of money.
If you put those bits together, your guess is as good as mine.

This is another skewed opinion not well thought through and formed by commonplace ignorance. You think delegate are not strategic in their formation and thinking, not interested in power play in the long game and just taken by whiff of money? The day we so-called elites come off our high horses and get to real world of politics will be the starting point

@OP

Apologies I've been off NL of late due to some commitments.
If it's not too late...
While I am not disposed to choosing for you as I don't know the final use and the 2 speaks to different things, here are my suggestions

1. Loose the background. It makes it sort of heavy on the eye..
2. Reconsider your colour-mix. I counted more than 5 colours in bottom and ~4 in top one, which is a bit too much. Consider limiting to 2 (max 3)
3. I believe the new drift is to have visualizations that are easy on the eye. While I appreciate the need to creatively want to show so much information compressed, once it's heavy on the eye it can be distracting. Take a less-is-more approach, you can then allow drill-downs to get to more information...

Clearly in all these schemings the south east is losing out. How I wished the south east leaders have formed a strong power block and make a bold statement like the south west leaders are doing. Igbo Presidency, Igbo Presidency but they are not even supporting themselves. I really wished an Igbo man would be President next year but that isn’t happening. Even Peter Obi that is gathering momentum they are not supporting. Igbo political leaders are the south east problem.

1. I'm wondering why the concern for South Eastern candidate in a party majority of the South Easterners hate.... "Fulani party", "Jan.ja.weed party", "Fulani slaves" etc.
2. Do you seriously expect a South Eastern candidate in a party the South Easterners do not vote for...

But I believe the answers to your questions should be directed inwardly

How I wished the south east leaders have formed a strong power block and make a bold statement like the south west leaders are doing
The answer here lies in the collective refusal or inability to grow APGA as the formidable block. When people like Peter Obi who should have waited in APGA to build the base and get it to be well rooted in all the South Eastern states...and later use it as a platform to reach out to other region for alliance, decided to pursue personal ambition (porting to PDP, taking ministerial position under GEJ govt) these are bad political miscalculations and these are the consequences.

When you cannot set aside your prejudices, and make alliances with other regions, these things have consequences...
