Religion / Re: Politicians And Pastors: The Two Things Holding Nigeria Back! by mekaozi: 8:43am On Apr 13, 2006
Mongue:

Phew, I'm glad to hear that so many people see through the illusion.

In my opinion these two groups are the leaders of the nation. The politicians becuae they voted themselves in. And the pastors because most people follow what they say.

All I ask of the advocates of the Pastors is that you take a long hard look at where the money is going. You all sound like good people so please please please try and make YOUR church ensure that it does some real good with the money that you and those around you give, I want this country to go forwards so my kids can be living in a better place.

I'm a bit sad that no one has told me about any of the stuff their churches are doing to help? Suggests nobody knows!?!?

okay, christ embassy loveworld TV employs hundreds of citizens, so they create employment, Pastor Chris's messages encouraged me to believe that if I applied for a student's visa that I will get by faith, so I did and I got it, now am in medical school, The Christ embassy church here in maryland, sends volunteers to hospitals on missions to speak hope to sick people that do not have someone to stand by their sick bed with them, the outreach department goes to villages in African countries to share the word and give food to some starving people, Covenant University by Dr. Oyedepo is training thousands of discplined well qualified graduates to take on the Nigerian workforce in the future and they are handing out a number of full tuition scholarships to extremely poor kids that otherwise would not have had any shot at higher education, do u want more, u know u guys are so biased that u don't see the reality of things that are right before u, as far as where my money goes, men, how else should I tell u that iit is none of your business, I made that money, and whether I take to the casino in Vegas and gamble it all away or I go shopping with it, or  I give every single dime of it to my pastor, again, it is non of your business, please please please, get your facts right, cheers
Politics / Re: Why Are Alot Of Nigerians (and Africans) Poor In A Rich Country by mekaozi: 8:30am On Apr 13, 2006
@ funloving

U gotta be kiddin me, " poor in a rich country", is that an oxymoron?, First I dont believe anything an Iranian says, I know a lot of them here in the states that work in a department store, not to say that anything is wrong with that. but it still shows that some of them might not be doing as well as they think to be passing judgments on others, when u are in school or vocational training u generally will a job on the side that does not of course pay the best of wages, but thats why u went to the school in the first place right?, to get better education and make more money hopefully, I totally agre with
Idekeson:

The fact that you find yourself in a rich nation doesn't give you a license to walk into a Bank and withdraw money. Your standard of living largely depends on your career or inheritance. Most Africans arrive with neither. Getting a good career requires education. Education is expensive. It's a complex mix of factors which you will understand if you're old enough.
, papers and education are the guaranteed keys to success in a "rich country"while no papers and education guarantees poverty in a "rich country", every group of people in that country regardless of where they are form have a liitle bit of both in the mix, including some citizens of that country, shoosh
Politics / Re: Secession : We Will All Fail by mekaozi: 8:16am On Apr 13, 2006
NO country succeeds during civil war, history tells us that. When u cut off the routes through which shipments that feeds people comes in as a result of u having the whole military equipments, then people will definitely starve. Look at the innovation of Igbos, should I say Biafrans. We dominate everything that shows creativity including the movie industry. Just like the Japanese did not need to have any significant natural resource to create the world second largest economy,, Igbos would have been able to turn that desert land of theirs into goldmine had they had the opportunity, don't forget that isreal, which created wealth out of the barren land they occupy, was the first to establish an embassy in Biafra. It would have been a match made in heaven had the egyptian aircrafts with the intentions of them maintaining their islamic influence on Nigeria did not bomb the hell out of innocent biafrans that was clucthing for cover. Of course u can bet the United STates are regreting having stayed on the sideline during that issue, but trust me, the next time it happens, the war i mean, it will not be anything like the previous one, especially with the northern islamic states becoming more radicalized by the hour. U can bet which side the free world will be on, and don't forget were the oil wells are, grin

Family / Re: Under-18 Domestic Servants Banned In Nigeria by mekaozi: 7:42am On Apr 13, 2006
hot-angel:

exactly what i was going to say. Some parents are even worse than those who use others kids are their servants. Some parents use their own kids as tho they r like, some sorta MACHINE! Wash plate, cook this, do that, do this, etc.

Why shouldn't u "Wash plate, cook this, do that, do this, etc" , no be them born u?, of course I had to do this do that, which is why I was able to maintain a full time job while carryin an average of 22 units in my undergraduate years. The issue is that the law is unenforcable, just like the "gay relationship", laws like u are going to follow people into their bedrooms or something. I mean we havent enforced the laws we already have, the most important one bing Obasanjo leaving office next year,, while we are adding new laws, am really frustrated in every which way, its just like the whole continent have hit a brick wall, there doesnt seem to be a way out,  angry sad
Business / Re: Any Good Legitimate Investments In Nigeria? by mekaozi: 7:32am On Apr 13, 2006
@zebudaya
Did I hear u say "money hungry capitalism", well it is the same system here in the U.S that causes the traffic jam at the embassy with people, waiting to come and grab a piece of the pie. The beauty of capitalism is that just like in Seun's case, if he open starts the generating business and start making money,, sooner or later other people will jump into the band wagon, causing fierce competiton that will eventually force him to lower the price inorder to stay in business. See "capitalism" is not the enemy here, because it synonmous with free-market, which encourages competition, which in turn lowers the price for the average consumer while giving them lots of options, much like if Sprint PCS is too expensive,, I can always switch to verizon,, or AT&T or cingular wireless,, well u get the point. Yeah capitalism can be a little explotative at first,, but in the long run, the average consumer gets the last laugh, infact we need more of capitalism to improve NIgerian economy, not the other way round, get it?, cheers

@dearzi
am in U C san-diego medical school. , yeah I know about the last lap, in fact it hasnt been that long for me either, I always remember my interview eac time I walk into that Gross-anatomy Lab. Have u taken the mcat or not. Pay more attention to ur chemistry, especially ur second semester O.chem. Go over the clinical questions in ur biology textbooks since they are the kind of questions u will most likely encounter in mcat. some of the questions they asked me at my intervies are: A. if a patient had to go through a surgical procedure in which his/her spleen was removed,, what kind of food should the patient stay away from? they also asked me about the Oregon's doctors assisted suicide bill that just got debated at the supreme court? do u think it is ethical?, would u or would u not do it?, Abortion? If u haven't written ur personal essays, personalize it as much as possible. Be original, make sure u do extensive grammatical error corrections. If u get a secondary application frm any school,, then u have jumped the first huddle, if everything fails U have the option of applying to United states accredited Caribbean medical schools, I got into three of those too, just make sure u can be licensed in Florida, california, New york and texas , since those are the hardest states for any school to get recognized, infact other states recognized foreign med schools as soon as they gain accreditation into any of the above mentioned states. So long as u have a minimum g.p.a of 3.4, u have at least a millon+ options to achieve ur goals, if ur GPA is lower than that, well I would recommend u take some upper division classes to bring it up,, or take a two year graduate program in the biomedical field before u apply, good luck

@miky
Good choice men, u will never regret it. The years are not that long depending on what u do ur fellowship in. as soon as u get ur degree, Med. school is only 3 years and 6months should u pass all ur board exams the first time. U actually start making money from ur residency through ur fellowship if u want to do one. Infact u will be so busy in med. school especially if u go to one that emphasizes research that u wont know when the four years is over, but for now concentrate on getting getting into a prestigeous university because it does help ur chances of getting prefrence. I graduated from Duke University on full time scholarship from my second semester before going to medical school, make sure u do tons of community service and volunteer at least four hours every month at the ICU or emergency department of ur local hospital, trust me admissions committee loves this part,

Well good luck to all u guys, and for those wondering I will be doing my residency/fellowship in neurosurgery and am shooting for John Hopkins, yeah right, no seriously, anyways, stay focused guys and u can do it, grin
Religion / Re: Separation Of 'Muslim' And 'Christian' Sections Under 'Religion' by mekaozi: 6:41am On Apr 13, 2006
Again I dont understand this "tolerant" thing as defined by u guys, tolerance includes the right to offend and be offended,, the right to not push my views on people nor have them shove theirs down my throat. U can drag a horse to the stream but will never force it to drink water. U can merge the posthing thing all u want and that will never explain to me why 95% of terrorist activities carried out today is done by people screaming "allah is great", or why u cant go to a northern state and criticize their imams without getting killed. Please I dont want to learn about Islam and I have the right not to. Just like They dont have to learn about christians or why we have to turn the other cheek. matter of fact,, the main post was addressed to fellow "muslims, peace be upon them", Mr Admin Please for the sake of mutual co-existence while retaining individual behavior, reconsider

Education / Re: Discussion Area For Medical Students by mekaozi: 8:58pm On Apr 12, 2006
@larger_20,

yeah, am a second semester medical student @ University of california San- diego, About the HIV, I really want to tell u guys that there will be a medical cure for it but the slick thing about that virus is that it belongs to a rare group called the retro-virus. I.E: they invade your cell as RNA which gives them exclusive access your nucleus where they shed their protective covering and use your cell components to replicate back to DNA in reverse manner. The clinical difficulties with this scenario is that it is so hard to find an antibiotics that will kill the virus without killing cellls needed for normal body activities. this is mainky because the virus gets so integrated to the molecular component of the body. there are some drugs however that stops the spread of the virus by killing off cells that have been infected, while blocking the replication of the virus RNA at some point during the process, but this pill is mainly effective at the onset of the infection. The other pills only prolongs live span of patients by slowing down the conversion of the virus into full blown AIDS. So this is the situation,, and know that the pharmaco-biological scientiests will have themselves a handful in the distant future, good luck with school, cheers wink
Religion / Re: Politicians And Pastors: The Two Things Holding Nigeria Back! by mekaozi: 10:52am On Apr 12, 2006
@ Olex
      Not to make an excuse for the glutttonic pastors,  U still have not made a connection between what they preach and the backwardness of Nigeria. I have lots of friends that are very active in the church yet they are very smart and have successful careers. Political problems that arise as a result of policies causes frustrations in people which in-turn leads them to some "pastors" that will take advantage of them. DOnt get it twisted,, in my opinion,  the former led to the later not the other way round. even in the United States people still flock prosperity churches with all the economic prosperity here, but in Nigeria,, frustration as a result of government policies is what causes people to head to their "pastors" for the most part, meaning that the pastors are viewed by the people as a way out of problems that already exists. whether they got ripped off or not is not the issue because the problems are already there!!, as far as pastor chris,, anybody that have listened to him and still thinks he doesnt have a message to nigerian youths, well I really don't know what to say, arguing with that will be a huge waste of time, I still think that Nigeria has not found what values it wants to defend. Islamic countries defends MOhamed and his message,, Western countries for the most part "stands" human rights and free market, but in Nigeria, what do we stand for?, some people are pushing for democracy while others are dragging us back to the stone ages, the two are just irreconcilable, thats what the real issue is cheesy

yeah, cant we all just get along?, U know what, I really wish we can, unfortunately I have arrived at my dream world yet am still in the air
Religion / Re: Politicians And Pastors: The Two Things Holding Nigeria Back! by mekaozi: 9:47am On Apr 12, 2006
This is the most disgusting topic I have read so far on this site. How can one begin to blame Nigeria's problems on pastors. DO have U guys have any idea how many people would have been unable to cope with the chaos in NIgeria without the encouragement of people like pastor Chris, I used to be one of them,  Did u guys listen to the youth conference he had last year? OH no wait, U didnt!!!! yeah because all u know is what u were told. And what if I decide to give my car or for that matter my whole money to my pastor,, who are u to pass a judgment on that. Do u know how much he has affected my life. I don't hear anybody talk about the north, Sharia law that discriminates against women and non-muslims as the problem. I don't hear any of you talk about the plan to register NIgeria as a member of the organisation of ISlamic countries when muslims only make up only 45% of the total population, but its easier for u to accuse pastors and push them into the mix, because u can do that even publicly and not have to worry about your life. Why not go to a town square in Zamfara state and say the same thing about their Imams and see if u live to see daylight. U guys never seem to quit amazing me. The most progressive and most tolerant areas in NIgeria are areas where Sharia law does not exist. How can u have a progressive deomocratic and free market country, when legislators in some states are passing laws that will encourage investments and offer more personal freedom to citizens, while other states are passing laws that kill women for adultery,, seperate sexes in class and buses,, make non-conformers second class residents and push more women into submission by clothing them like masquerades, talk about what is holding NIgeria back, but again its easier to blame pastors, afterall the holy book most of them adhere to tells them to turn the other cheek, This is so PATHETIC!!!!!! sad
Religion / Re: Separation Of 'Muslim' And 'Christian' Sections Under 'Religion' by mekaozi: 9:06am On Apr 12, 2006
@SEUN, U never fail to amaze me, U always have something "strange" to say about Pastor chris and miracles but seem to be the first to cater to "MUSLIM" concerns, I just hope u will be a little balanced, anyways I dont know if I want to talk about my christian faith and practices in a joint forum,, neither do I want to read anything about ISlam which is also well within my right. "Tolerance" does not only mean I have to learn or try to understand the other person, it also includes my right to not tell someone of my views and not have them ram theirs down my throat!!!!
Religion / Re: Christian Wives And Submission To Their Husbands by mekaozi: 6:38am On Apr 11, 2006
As I understand, you are an atheist so it might not make sense to u how some young successful christian guys will not take advantage of a respectful woman. The issue is not being young or pompous,, it actually lies on how one was raised and how much they value biblical principles.

As a 22 year old medical student in the U.S, I believe that I could qualify as a "young pompous" guy,, but based on what I learnt from the relationship my father had with my mum, I know better than to take advantage of women that respects and refers to me, especially in the U.S where everybody will consider it alien! cheesy
