Oilatium is a bath additive and cream that can be bought off counter in UK pharmacies, if you are in Nig, I am sure you can get family or friends coming home to get it for you.
tessybaby:

@ modeM
what is oilatium and where can it be found?
Family / Re: Mothers I Need Ur Advice by modeM: 1:05pm On Jan 17, 2012
Oilatium works wonders for me, tried Aveeno and many brands of aqueous cream but they all didnt work, I even tried the local sheabutter and coconut oil all on the advice of elderly ones but it all didnt work till the Docs recommended Oilatium.

Career / Re: Hepatitis & Company Medicals? by modeM: 8:15pm On Feb 08, 2011
Insurance premiums and exigencies That sounds lame to me.I know at least 3 people who are chronic hep b carriers and they were all subject to these same tests and all got the job with different multinationals; the only exception was one that was made to go through further tests in SA to check if it's an active or inactive chronic hep b but he was still hired regardless.

Being hep b positive doesn't necessarily mean your insurance premium will be high it's all decided on a case by case basis and it doesn't cost a fortune if the insurance company do offer to insure you so the whole insurance premium excuse makes no sense.how would you feel if you were the one rejected on the basis of your health when you are not even physically sick!
The funny twist to this while thing is you will be amazed at the no of people living with hep b in nig the only thin line is knowing and not knowing!

There are no 2 names to it than pure discrimination
Career / Re: Hepatitis & Company Medicals? by modeM: 12:27pm On Feb 08, 2011
I can categorically say yes for PZ cos that was my experience from them, literally withdrew an offer made on the basis of that and my job role was management trainee, nothing to do with putting others at risk.

That said, I wouldnt expect enlightened companies like the ones you have listed to take things to that extreme cos its pure discrimination and its only in a country like Nigeria that we see people get away with all sorts of nonsense policies.

Health / Re: Cervical Cancer by modeM: 6:35pm On Nov 23, 2010
As far as I know, even in the UK the vaccine has only just been made available and it is currently only given to young girls (cant remember reason for this). Also the vaccine does not prevent all strains of the virus hence the most effective way would be to embrace regular pap smears to detect early changes in the cervix. Most cervical cancer deaths could have been prevented with early detection.

I was quite scared going for the first one but there is nothing as good as knowing the state of your health, ignorance or fear of the unknown is not a good excuse to avoid a preventable disaster.

I would encourage the government or local charities to offer this screening for free and provide more education to the women. Most women in the UK did not take it serious until they watched Jade Goody die at her prime.

Travel / Re: Is It Possible To Study In Uk With Visit Visa? by modeM: 12:41pm On Oct 25, 2007
It used to be acceptable.Last year my friend was denied but the Uni advised him to start his programme with his visit visa,he ended up completing the programme on his visit visa(however,u know u are not allowed to stay beyond 6 months on a visit visa).Anyway to cut long story short,i just read that the Immigration office says its no longer allowed. The best thing i will advice you to do is carefully deal with the reasons of refusal ad address each issues beyond reasonable doubt. Its really not going to be fun foryou coming to study and not being able to do other things ur student visa will permit you to like NHS registration, work, bank accounts and even being able to change to other status without having to eave the UK.Wish you all the best.

Can one apply for a US visit visa from the UK while studying on a student visa or do I have to apply from Nigeria. If its possible to apply from London, what are the documents I need?thx.
Travel / Re: Helpline For Ur New Uk Student Visa Application! by modeM: 1:12pm On Aug 15, 2007
My own lil piece of advice.Plan your application
1 apply early enough,if possible two to three months before you intend to travel.

2Submit genuine documents,no forged documents at all.The High Commission contacted everyone involved in my application,my sponsor,my relatives abroad and even my sponsors bank and asked them to read out each line of her debit and credit transaction to crosscheck with what they have.

3 Answer the questions on your student questionnaire intelligently, give enough information about your plans and why you chose your programme and the Uni.

4 Commit all to God's hands,Hez the final authority.

vikiviko:

Your chances are as bright and bleak if you do not err in the area of accomodation.
I would have advised you pay for the school accomodation than using a relatives's place.
Nevertheless if your relative is a citizen i don't see it as a problem.
Best of luck
Yea,she is a naturalised citizen and she has a very good job.

I am in the process of applying for a UK student visa.I have paid my fees in full to the university.I will also be staying with a close relative who has a personal house around the school area.My parents are sponsoring with their personal accounts with all evidence of finances shown.I just finished my youth service and am not working at the moment but I have some exams am preparing for with evidence.I have been to the UK a number of times on holiday as well.
Please is their anything I am omitting in the whole application process? And for all its worth this aint a farce am not trying to escape,no offence o,but I take too much pride in maself to be an illegit immigrant,so escaping aint an option for me.Please advice.Thank you.
Health / Re: Hepatitis B by modeM: 5:52pm On Jun 06, 2007
Lemme help out with the little research I have carried out on hep B.First up I tested positive to hep B surface antigen(HBsAg) and I was refused a job based on that.
1. Hep B is 100 times more infectious than HIV and it is transmitted through blood contacts or perinatal means i.e (birth related)

2.According to the Internet statistics 1 out of 3 people in the world will be exposed to the virus at one point in their life time. There are two stages of hep B,the acute and the chronic stage.90 percent of those who catch the virus as adults will only go through the acute stage and their bodies will become immuned to the virus, they do not transmit it n are not at the risk of liver cancer or cirrhosis. However 10 percent never develop immunity and become chronic carriers(i.e the virus becomes active over the years and gradually attacks the virus,3 percent out of this 10 percent end up with liver cancer or cirrhosis)

3. For people who got the virus as kids, they stand a 90 percent chance of becoming chronic carriers and ending up with liver cancer or cirrhosis later on in life.

4 In order to know ones status for Hepatitis B,the first routine test which is usually carried out is the HBsAG test( surface antigen test),a positive result indicates that their is an ongoing infection but it is not enough to say that the person has become a chronic carrier.Further tests needs to be carried out which includes the core antigen test and the E-antigen test. These are the only test that can tell the true situation of the hepatitis virus. But unfortunately,in Nigeria the core antigen and E-antigen testing facilities are not readily available. The core antigen and E-antigen tests are important because of the inconclusiveness of the surface antigen because it is very possible that a chronic carrier could reverse to a negative stage of surface antigen,so in order to be very sure one needs a surface antigen test and core antigen test done.

5 Vaccines have been developed to protect those that ave not caught the virus yet,the vaccines are taken 3 times over a period of 6months,and it is readily available in LUTH and some other health centres costs about 1800 naira per jab.Another interesting thing to note is when you're vaccinated your body becomes positive to the surface antigen test for a while then reverts to a negative state.(A piece of advice if you're going into a company that discriminates,u might want to wait till your medicals is over before u take the jab so dey wont stupidly assume you're an hep carrier)

6. For those who end up being chronic carriers all hope aint lost,Inter-feron has shown promising results and recently it is being combined with lamuvidine(i hope my spelling is right). It doesnt cure hepatitis but it delays the progress, and the results are getting more encopuraging over the years.Other drugs are currently being developed.

7 My piece of advice,to avoid the unneccessary trauma, discrimination among employers and all that crap we face ere in Nigeria spare a few thousands while you're still negative and protect yourself and your loved ones.Really Hepatitis B is becoming a scourge in sub-saharan Africa and it is amazing how such can be swept under the carpet and not given huge media attention like HIV.

8 Please note,I am not a medical expert, everything I have posted here is from discussions with my medical friends and some research I carried out on my own.
