I think this thread works well for that purpose , but anyway, I also want to share that the Personal Finance Subreddit is the best resource in this world on money management in the UK. Every conceivable topic has been covered in-depth and every new development is thoroughly discussed in the forum too. Here for anyone who wants to check it out - https://www.reddit.com/r/UKPersonalFinance/

Although I acknowledge the usefulness of this thread and appreciate the information provided, I worry that these information may become buried among the many other topics that are being discussed. Nonetheless, I agree that the link you posted above is fantastic, and it has great potential to benefit a lot of people. Thank you for sharing it.

Hello guys!
What are people's opinions on creating a separate thread dedicated to discussing money management and money-saving opportunities specifically for individuals in the UK ? This thread would cover topics such as bank switch offers, cashback offers, credit card offers such as AMEX sign-up referrals, money remittance platforms, investment opportunities and platforms like free-trade referrals, eToro, LISA etc, . Given the challenging times we're facing, it would be immensely helpful to support one another by sharing information on cost-cutting measures and ways to earn some extra income effortlessly. While this thread is fantastic, it can be time-consuming to sift through all the information, especially when you only need specific details such as the ones highlighted above. @justwise, @semmyk,@rinzylee,@husla @lexusgs430

I applied for visit visa for my mum, due to postponing the biometrics date, the biometrics date is now just two weeks away from the intended travel date mentioned in all the application docs.

We have agreed that the intended travel date will not work so plan to postpone. Do I need to write a letter explaining that we have changed travel date and upload or leave things the way they are?

This is bullous impetigo. Buy Mupirocin cream from the pharmacy and apply on the area. It will heal up within days. Otherwise, you will keep wasting money until it gets worse. It doesn't respond to other topical antibiotics.

Also, act fast, so it doesn't disseminate through the blood. That would be worse!

PS. I'm a medical doctor.

You're right! Most likely bullous impetigo. However, OP mentioned that they have tried treating with antibiotics and it's not been responsive. As much as impetigo has a low systemic absorption, (hence topical abx preferred), Bullous is quite a stubborn one and it may be worth trying an oral abx with a better systemic absorption such as cefalexin.

Hello house pls I need advice my father in-law burial is Jan next year and my hubby is insisting that I have to travel for the ceremony since he is the first son, that I need to be there .
my problem now is I started a new job in September and my confirmation is Feb next year. I don't have leave till March next year when the new leave beginnings . I am thinking of how to talk to my manager about it, if she will agree and give me part of my leave in Jan or I take some days without pay. I am confused. kindly advice pls. Thank u

Even if you're still on probation, you're entitled to annual leave proportional to duration worked in the current financial year. Check with your employer how much leave you have and you can request some time off as appropriate .

Morning!

For all looking to grab some extra £££ from current account switches.
Nationwide currently offers £200 to switch to their account but there are others with other incentives.

Note that opening or switching 3 or more bank accounts in a short period of time can have an impact on your credit rating.

Yes I did after a few hours but they simply confirmed what the school had told me already that council does not have any contribution to the subsidy and if school claims it's free for all, I should go ahead.

And if I'm still unsure, I should approach the school for further clarification.

I will suggest you ask the school for further clarification and not take the words of the council for it. The 30hrs funding is from the government not the council as you're told.

Steer very well clear of public funds . As far as UK.gov is concerned, schools are only completely free when a child reaches the compulsory school age irrespective of immigration status .

Thanks. I am moving to the UK in a few months. My annual income will be around £130k. And I may make much more than that. That's okay for me. I don't care what nonsense that guy is writing there. If he doesn't like it he should come back to Nigeria and go rent a duplex in Ikorodu or Lugbe in Abuja. He shouldn't disturb us. Was he telling us to clap for him?

Your annual income is £130k? And you may make much more than that, yea? Are you a ceo of a multinational? Or are you just projecting?? Until you land in the abroad and receive your paycheck suffry suffry on the loudness or in this case lieeeeeesssssss grin grin grin

Thanks. Someone shared moneybox earlier, for some reason it didn't recognise I am in the UK...kept saying not available in your country try...so I cdnt download it. Still same result now.

Anyone have a clue what the issue is? This also happened when I needed to download the tesco app.... And no, I am not using a VPN and Google can access my location

Strange! Are you using WiFi or mobile data? If mobile, try accessing the website using a WiFi connection, if home WiFi, try downloading on a different WiFi connection. Clear cache /clutter on your device and then try again. Restart your device etc.

Any recommendations for a LISA provider? I'm in the market for one.

I used Skipton building society back then but I think you might be better off with moneybox just because you can do more with moneybox.

https://www.moneyboxapp.com/isa/lifetime/cash/

By the way, you can open your Lisa account with as little as £1 just to get it rolling and fund the account when you have your lump sum. This is especially beneficial to those lookin to use a LISA account towards their first home. You need to have opened the Lisa account for a year before you can withdraw the funds.

Modified.. You need to fund it with £4000 before April if you want to get the max government bonus (£1k)this financial year.

I'm back with my money saving or money making avenues. Good one on all the SIPP talk. Like someone said you can maximise your workplace pension by increasing the minimum contribution since most employers match the increase with a higher percentage. I went from contributing 3% percent for 2% employer's contribution (on auto enrolment) to contributing 6% for employer's 12%.

For anyone looking to save/make some cash whilst spending, utilising TopCashback when you shop online is the way to go. You essentially get cashback on items purchased from legit UK retailers . If you go through TopCashback website to retailers website , you will earn cashback that goes as high as 20% or even more.

You also get £10 on sign up using the link below

https://www.topcashback.co.uk/ref/tinux

Honestly though, in this 2022,keep your ears to the ground... We need to be making money and/ saving money so embrace every avenue that legally allows it . You can call me your Nairaland moneysaving expert grin grin grin grin

Just click on the link in the initial post to get the £50 credit and the instructions on how to switch is there. Ensure you read all the fineprints and compare around to ensure you're on a great deal. Their rate is alright though.

I for like change ooo, finally gotten an apartment on Monday and the energy provider is scotish power, the reviews I have been seen about the scotish power isn't good at all .. got an idea on the process to change ?

We were with Scottish Power too, and I'll say please leave as soon as you can if you're able to. I have said I will never use Scottish Power again even if they were the only energy provider left. It got so bad I reported them to ombudsman but unfortunate to learn they sponsor ombudsman so that's where their loyalty was, Hence the matter wasn't resolved. Was on the brink of suing them before they eventually sorted our issue.

To switch just click on the link in my initial post, insert your details to get a quote,.If you're happy with it, EON-NEXT will start your switch process. You won't have to do anything.

Hello,
How's everyone doing?

How's everyone gearing up for the increase in bills come April?

Anyway, for anyone looking to switch energy provider, you can join E-ON NEXT. They have a good rate, and if you sign up with my link, https://share.eonnext.com/iron-wren-281

you get £50 credit towards your bill.

With energy prices going exponentially up come April, if you can, you should switch now.

So invariably it means that someone can stay in a green list country for more than 10 days and be allowed to enter.

I think Justwise is making a case against visit visa and not people with residency status . The point is if you're on a visit visa you're banned from the country (no option to self isolate /pay 2300 quarantine fee) so your place of visa issue is put into consideration.

It's a different case for UK residents as they are not banned, they are allowed entry but just need to pay quarantine fees but as long as they have not been in a red list country in the last 10 days, they don't have to pay.

Modified
You might still be able to enter the country using a visit visa irrespective of place of issue as long as you've not been in a red list country in the last 10 days.

Now that you mention it, I faintly recall that story, the guy got a fine of 10k.....
I may have to just get as many informal lessons as I can so that I can take the tests soon after getting a provisional..

You also need to have passed your theory test before you can book your practical test and you need your provisional license to book the tests.

Fair enough. I wish you all the success in the next application,. It will all work out in the end, just keep a positive mind.

Does anyone here use moneybox? Would you recommend.

I just started using it. I use it for Stock ISA..it is linked to my account so I set up a weekly dd that goes in to the stocks. I also took advantage of save the pennies which is diverted to ISA stocks. Nothing major with it. It's a UK market so quite unlike etoro.
You can get cashbacks or offers if you go through the app to shop in selected shops. (a bit similar to topcashback)

Hi lexus, thanks for promoting etoro here. I have just started investing and talking about alibaba, as at when this question was asked, it was falling at an exponential rate, I decided to seize it then-my regret is that I invested just a little, now it's growing rapidly.

And Im learning everyday, I've made some wrong moves... But I'm quite excited about the prospect of growth.

I would advice you to use your virtual equity, copy a few traders, buy some shares, index funds, etf's (don't buy CFD's)......... Etc etc

Then download apps like barrons, Insider, stock screener, stocxy etc etc

Watch YouTube videos (Sasha Yanshin, Peter komolafe)..... etc etc

Educate yourself.......

NB : Your stock positions would turn red..... You never lose money, unless you sell, a losing position......

Don't get emotional with shares, once you hit a high % you have set, feel free to sell position........

Copy teatea_chi (she knows the markets, like a pro).......

The beauty of copying trades, is you can view their portfolio in real time..... Then simply buy positions, they buy...... cheesy

Look through apps posted, and download investment apps.....

Investing in shares is good, if you have a long term view......

Thanks a lot. Very enlightening!

All platforms charges spread fees (one way or another)........

Nothing like free lunch (but on the long/short term), your investments in cryptos, shares, index funds, etf's, forex etc etc......

Would pay you plenty more than conventional bank interests.......... cheesy
