Dating And Meet-up Zone / Re: I'm 20, I Have Never Dated Anyone: Do U Find That Strange? by myro(m): 5:09pm On Jan 09, 2007
Like most people say, it is very normal to be 20 and to have never dated anyone but Please allow me to state the obvious.

Perhaps you should explore the other side. I mean the delay could be from the fact that you have been auditioning the wrong sex all along.

After the exploration, if you confirm that you are into dudes then I am 21, smarter than that other person's brother and cuter than Wale. Only problem with me is I don't got a camera, wink
TV/Movies / Re: Honey & The Soundtrack & Lyrics, Believe (ft. Lil Romeo N Mekhi Phifer) by myro(m): 3:30pm On Jan 08, 2007
How can you compare the end of Honey to that of Sister's Act? Let me name the very obvious difference:

Sister's Act: The final scene was performed wholly by the cast who we knew and had come to love.
Honey: A bunch of older people we hadn't seen until that point did the real performance then the kids came on for what I can only classify as showing their faces (except for lil Romeo's brother who did the tap dance if I remember correctly) and guess who gets the applause?

I get that the final scene was great for a stand alone performance but taken in context of the movie it was really just a sugar coated end to an unimaginative story. Compared to greats like Flashdance and Dirty Dancing (only the original with Patrick Swayze), Honey is just not it.

and I did see the Hollywood version. Did not even know there was a Nigerian alternative though I am not too surprised.

note: i have personal beef with Lil romeo, Jessical Alba and themed movies with little heart (i just cant get myself to respect them) so don't take my word for it,

TV/Movies / Re: Do You Love Or Hate Nigerian Movies? by myro(m): 12:32am On Jan 07, 2007
I don't think I hate Nigerian movies. I don't love them thats for sure in fact I can't stand them but I don't think I hate them. There is a lot that is wrong with the way movies are made in Nigeria and many of these things are forgivable. Like lack of funding, lack of technical expertise etc but there is no reason why you should keep a shot where the actress obviously stumbles on her line. That is what pisses me off about the Nigerian movies; avoidable mistakes that shows a complete disregard for the audience.

So I think the first step in making Nigerian movies better is attention to detail and respect for the consumer.

@Owoayo, Mel Gibson was an actor before he directed 'Passion of the Christ', Tom Cruise produced 'Last Samurai', Zach Braff wrote, directed and stared in 'Garden State' and 'Open Hearts'. My point is, it is ok and in fact quite expected for people in the industry to go from one role to the other as long as they prepare themselves for the challenge. That is the major problem with our film industry (I refuse to call it Nollywood) lack of preparation.

Emad:

i think the love sences in Nigerian movies really suck, they are so MECHANICAL
you can see that these are two people who do not love each other but are acting a "play"
Whether or not they kiss the sence has to be romantic enough to make audiences beleive that they are in love

I agree with Emad, it's not about the kiss but what leads up to it. If the acting, directing and producing gets better, the kiss and sex scenes will get better.

The Matrix Revolutions
Agent Smith: Why, Mr. Anderson? Why do you do it? Why get up? Why keep fighting? Do you believe you're fighting for something? For more that your survival? Can you tell me what it is? Do you even know? Is it freedom? Or truth? Perhaps peace? Yes? No? Could it be for love? Illusions, Mr. Anderson. Vagaries of perception. The temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose. And all of them as artificial as the Matrix itself, although only a human mind could invent something as insipid as love. You must be able to see it, Mr. Anderson. You must know it by now. You can't win. It's pointless to keep fighting. Why, Mr. Anderson? Why? Why do you persist?
Neo: Because I choose to.

The God Father
Leave the gun take the canoli

Kill Bill Vol 1
After kicking everyone's ass when she came to get Oren Ishi The Bride says:
For those of you lucky enough to have your lives, you may take them with you but leave your limbs behind. They belong to me.
(something like that anyway. I couldn't find the real quote)

TV/Movies / Re: Honey & The Soundtrack & Lyrics, Believe (ft. Lil Romeo N Mekhi Phifer) by myro(m): 12:42am On Jan 06, 2007
Ok, I have to ask. Did we see the same movie? The same utterly predictable dance movie about some chick who made it against all manufactured odds? Because the Honey I saw was tiring and certainly not worth a second watch.

And lil romeo? The guy read his lines, showed very little range and could not even dance I mean that brush your shoulders' move does not qualify.

It's possible that I am being a little hard on the movie but there is no way it could have been great. Marginally engaging because the dance moves were barely passable maybe but certainly not great.

Jessica Alba was hot though and her friend too but that does not in anyway compensate for her unemotional naija movie style acting in some parts of the movie. I saw it to the end though so maybe there is something I am missing.

probably not.

the song was cool though. gotta love yolanda
TV/Movies / Re: Movie Recommendation Thread by myro(m): 11:54pm On Jan 05, 2007
I tend to recommend what some overtly unhappy people call depressing movies. I think they just keep me grounded by diluting my happiness so here goes nothing:

El Mar (It's Spanish and freaking crazy I'd recommend it because it taught me somethings about myself. you'll probably never find it but it's worth the try.)
Crash (What can I say, it won best picture)
The Hours (I loved Meryl Streep and the scene Ed Harris killed himself)
The Motorcycle Diaries (Also Spanish but has hollywood ties. If you want to know the kind of attitude it takes to be great watch this movie. I found out I may not have it but good luck)
TV/Movies / Re: About The Movie 'Crash' by myro(m): 11:25pm On Jan 05, 2007
When I watched Crash the first thing I said to my friend was "This movie is going to win the oscars for best picture" I was right. For you to say that movie was boring u must not have understood it. I didnt cry but man it got me where most movies never could. I felt so sad when it ended and then glad that a movie could still make me feel that way. I havent watched again since then but I know it is one of those movies I would watch over and over again.

And the soundtrack was awesome. That song "In the deep" is so moving and so fitting for the end. The ran the whole song from begining to end and I wished they started over again. Thankfully, they did when the credits were rolling.

The whole movie was just great. You should watch it again and this time try to stay awake.
TV/Movies / Re: Do Nigerians Appreciate Subtlety In Movies? by myro(m): 10:56pm On Jan 05, 2007
I don't buy that whole idea that moives are made for house wives so there is no economic need for improvement. I think we need to subscribe to the Las Vegas philosophy: "If you build it they will come". Balogun used to be the house wife's choice for shopping but since The Palms has been opened, house wives flood Shoprite everyday buying the same things they have been buying for years. The fact that a standard is accepted does not mean it should not be improved; it just means you can continue to exploit consumers until someone shows them better.

I don't think you should even ask if Nigerians appreciate subtlety in Movies. As human beings, we appreciate subtlety everyday in communication with our fellow people so why do you think that will not translate to the movies?

Having said this, I read down the responses and it seems someone has said some part of what I am saying in some different way but that only proves the point. Maybe if we repeat ourselves over and over again we would finally hear.
Poems For Review / Re: 'Funky Patient': Screenplay For A Short Film by myro(m): 9:42pm On Jan 05, 2007
I think the screenplay is good for what it is, by this I mean a few inconsistencies do not work particularly against it.

I also think it ended just right. No need to get into all the sorty details. The character names were indeed quite confusing but I get SISI for the doctor as a technique but IRISI

Also, it may be my overexposure to movies and sort but I knew SISI was his love interest from the time he started talking about Visions and I think she should have known too so her reaction was a bit unrealistic. Maybe you want to kinda put it in there for the sake of believability.

I particularly enjoyed the opening conversation, very entertaining and original. Shows the characters have a great sense of humor.

I would definately watch this short film.
