what is the meaning of these? Can you show us the video of TB Joshua saying he was born again from the mother's womb? In reality, you can be called from the womb...even before you were born ( Samuel, Samson, john the Baptist , even Jesus himself). Finally, being BORN AGAIN IS A PENTECOSTAL DOCTRINE. It was not known by any of the apostles. It was not known before the coming of pentecostal churches. What we did was water baptism which was what was done to Jesus and new converts. Jesus did not teach Born again as a doctrine. He only mentioned it once as a parable before Pentecostals started running around with it like a separate doctrine on its own so what you consider scripturally sound from Okotie is just an opinion.
2) When people were entering into heaven, Jesus did not say they were born again. He said...when I was hungry, you fed me. When I was naked, you clothed me, when I was sick you visited. If you know that scripture then you get your answer. You and I don't know wether TB joshua and Okotie are both wizards but we do know which of them fulfilled the above criteria and that is enough for us. The rest is left for God

Being born again is not a Pentecostal doctrine... Jesus says in John 3:3: Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
God clearly lets us know that acts of charity are not necessarily the way to get into the kingdom. Are they signs of a regenerate heart? YES...but on their own are they the "end all-be all" of salvation? No.
Read your Bible in 1 Corinth 13:1 you see that it is possible to perform acts of charity without being truly saved. The pharisees themselves were the masters of charity. God sees the heart not the works

Inasmuch as there is a lot of undesirables in Okotie's ministry, he does make some scripturally valid points that every Christian should ponder upon. Here are some of those points:
1. Can a man be born-again from the mother's womb. The Bible disagrees with this. Yes folks like John the Baptist were anointed from the womb, they were not born-again from the womb. The definition of born-again is to confess Jesus, and believe in one's heart his atoning death on our behalf. There is a reason it has the word "again", because it is a second birth that comes after the natural. To say we are born again from the womb is to say one was born without the adamic sin nature which really equates that person with JESUS CHRIST.

Please and please dear people, take away your biases and look at this with a scriptural lens.

2. Does philanthropy equate piety? Please do not get me wrong folks. Yes, philanthropy is part of the christian work....God anointed Jesus Christ and he went about doing good - But, let's not equate this with God's seal on a man. Let's not forget that false prophets also perform good works to endear themselves to men...The pharisees also did a lot of good to be seen and praised by men.

There is a lot I will want to say, but I can't type again now. May God help us to discern, and to faithfully follow him.
Amen

Romance / Re: When A Nigerian Lady Says She Wants A "God-fearing Man", This Is What She Means by naijapatriot: 3:26pm On Mar 31, 2021
blazepascal:
When it comes to relationships or picking a partner for marriage, most Nigerians have a long list of preferences and what they want their spouses to possess in order to make a perfect partner.

Men have want their women to be respectful, beautiful, caring, bold and hard-working before they can consider them as "wife materials". This ideology often make some men to be too selective and usually end up being single even in their forties.

What about the women? Nigerian girls are very complicated people and their idea of an "ideal" husband might depend on age.

A teenage girl or one in her early twenties would want a fun guy, the party type that would take her places to have fun on weekends. Any guy that behaves like a husband to a girl of these age bracket will surely be disappointed as her lifestyle and mentality might be too over-whelming for him. These kinds of ladies prefer play boys and fun lovers at the moment.

Since we're talking about ladies who are choosing the kind of men they want to spend the rest of their lives with, let's get down to the point.

What do ladies mean when they say they want a "God-fearing" man?

First let's describe who a God-fearing man is. A person who is God-fearing is an overly religious person who sees nothing more important than his relationship with God. These people are try to live as holy as they can and often times, treats all people with love and respect equally. These kind of people don't lay much emphasis on romance or being a "great husband" and treat their spouses equally with the way they treat other people outside.

Now, with the above description is there any Nigerian woman that would want that kind of man? Many would cringe at the mere idea of marrying a pastor so as not to appear wearing gowns that they wouldn't normally wear.

No Nigerian woman would want to share her husband's love and affection with anyone and clearly, intimacy is a vital ingredient in marriage that must be shown as often as possible so as to keep the bond strong.

Some Nigerian women would likely cheat or even loath on her "God-fearing" husband because well, that isn't what she had hoped for.

So in summary, what people actually mean when they tell you that they want a "God-fearing man" is actually "I want a Good man''.

"I don't want someone who's too religious".

So the question is, why do we say one thing and mean another?.

To be honest, what most of them mean is a man that will not cheat on them

i have always thought it was the yorubas(the ones living in Lagos) that first came in contact with the Europeans.

And the Europeans also lived long in YorubaLand(Lagos) before permeating other regions.

They stayed long enough in Lagos to establish the first mission school(Badagry and CMS)...so why weren't their surnames influenced?
Actually the Benins had the first contact with Europeans around 1472 when Alfonso d'Aviero a Portuguese expeditor came to the ancient kingdom. Benin had an embassy in Lisbon as early as the 1500s

Religion / Godly Lady In America: Is There Hope For Me? by naijapatriot: 2:57am On Feb 13, 2017
To cut the long story short...I decided to post this on the religious section so I can get godly (Christian) advice :
I am currently studying in the states and am looking to be involved in a relationship that would lead to marriage, but it seems I have not had luck so far in my search. Sometimes I just wonder if my taste in women is too high. Maybe I should say a little bit about myself:

With all sense of modesty I am a handsome, intelligent and godly gentleman, with a clear focus and commitment towards my goals. If there is something that I take very seriously it is my faith. While I will not classify my self as being ultra-conservative like people who grew up in holiness denominations, I do hold some pretty conservative views about Christianity for example smoking, drinking, clubbing and indecency is a no-no for me. I cannot even stand materialism.

While I am not by this means out-rightly condemning those who part-take in such, it is just not in my character and I cannot stand it in a woman who I will call my wife and the mother of my children especially if they will be raised here. As much as I believe in the spiritual, I am quite attracted to beauty. I would want a woman who can make me want to come home every minute of the day (a good height of say above 5ft 3 and slim trim is a plus too, as I am about 6ft 1). However, if there is something that has been most challenging to me it is finding that godly woman who fits these descriptions.

Since my arrival here, I have been privileged to live in black and white dominated communities, I must admit that nothing makes me freer than being with my own Nigerian people. While I do have The joy of just having some white and black female American friends, my ultimate preference is a Nigerian. I want someone who has some cultural commonality with me, someone I can speak pidgin English with, and not have to think of the political correctness of my words when I interact with her. The society here is too emotional and I do not want a situation where little issues will just break up a relationship with good prospects.

I have met a couple of Nigerian ladies here but it's either I am not attracted to them, or I feel they are not committed to faith, or they are too incompatible to my personality. cry undecided ..If there is something in particular that I do not want it is a woman who has bought too much into this "American contemporary Christianity" and would not read their Bible to understand for themselves. I do not want a woman who regurgitates "pastor says" without studying for herself. I think at this point I may need to say I do not undermine pastors, I am just for people having a personal relationship with God's word or at least trying to. There are too many cliche doctrines ruining the faith of people today. Given, the current moral trend of this country, I cannot gamble with the spiritual life of my children especially given the racial, political and social dynamics of America today.

Let me quickly say that I am not a perfect man myself, I am still a work in progress but I just need someone who can believe in my vision and someone who will not mind an introvert like me. shocked shocked. I am ready to grow with that person as long as God's word is our compass. I am ready to be open with my dreams, fears, goals as long as I know she is the right one. As with every man, I desire respect but I want it to flow naturally. I do not do well asserting authority so I do not want to force it on anyone. I am also willing to learn, and have fun with the woman I call mine as long as it is within the ambit of what is pure.

My question now is: Can I find my kind of Nigerian Woman in this America or am I asking for too much

PS: I would want this to remain in the Religion Section and I would appreciate candid and decorous contributions. Please do not advise me to go to Nigeria for a wife grin cheesy cheesy cheesy.... I no ready for that one, as I no get person wey I keep for Naija.
