Thank you. You obviously know cross river well. This clueless governor comes with his self-serving 'projects' and people outside the state buy it and think he is progressive. He has taken us back 16 years. What we see are shady 'projects' with empty buildings, the ownership of these companies, are murky and shrouded in controversy like the so-called garment factory. Mr governor wants to cut down millions of trees, in the process destroying millions of acres of rainforest and endangered species. Cross river' s rainforests is one of the richest in biodiversity in Africa. Oh, and did I mention the governor's family is heavily into the logging business? angry angry A logger's paradise that 'conservation people' and 'bloody villagers' will not let them chop down. A super highway. How convenient.

To add to the discussion I have attached the original gazette showing how this man seized 20.4 km width for his road (25% of cross river land) until he fought t a standstill. The Map shows just how much land visually this ONE MAN wanted to take. We like road... not this type abeg
It is February 2018. Until now Ben Ayade has not paid ONE KOBO for all the farms he destroyed. Including cocoa, and othe trees that take years to grow. People have had to pull kids out of school. And he is speaking grammar about detractors. He has no money to do this road. No investor despite all the boast he keeps changing the names. All he wants to do is do "clearing" and sell timber to his Asian friends who attended his swearing in. As we speak he has successfully logged so much timber without a kobo going into the state treasury.
Meanwhile Ebonyi that fixed existing roads has diverted all traffic from calabar going to abuja or lagos. this man wants to leave road he can see to fix and cut through virgin forest and build 53 bridges without money.
I dont know what we did to deserve this man.
He almost succeeded in taking 10km on either side in the name of one road. 20.4km WIDTH. Until communities that were about to be wiped out fought and cried to FG for help.

Nigeria Air Force Kill 350 In Akwa Ibom

Intel reports are confirming the Nigeria Air Force raid in Cross River was actually on a border community Ikot Obiokut.
The raid by Hind helicopter gunships using incendiary
bombs massacred over three hundred villagers and about twenty militants!
One villager who escaped the massacre by swimming
across the creek reported that they were going about their normal business when suddenly the gunship flew over the village.
Villagers who were not engaged in any criminal activity came out to wave to the aircraft when suddenly the gunship opened fire. Those who ran into their houses were roasted when they gunship came back and napalmed the whole village.

Uwem, the survivor, is now living in fear of his life.

attaking GEJ is not the solution. but remember Northern Moslems worked for his campaign too. the man needs all his wits and supporters to do his job. the utterances i see on a daily basis make him look as if he is a regional president. GEJ is a NIGERIAN president and our self imposed divide and rule is playing into the enemies script. as far as im concerned they are a bunch of opportunists who were lucky to gain a foothold in the most illiterate corner of Nigeria with a porous border where Chadian and Niger militants have been strolling in casually for the past 20yrs unchecked to poke us in the eyes.

do not promote BH by suggesting they represent Nigerian moslems. they kill them just as cheaply. lets not build them into anything bigger than they are. all na fake branding dem sey do.

So they can kill on Christmas, kill in Ramadan and we will still be here giving them legitimacy of representing all Nigerian Moslems. WAKE UP!

See The Nation article below. Alaibes propaganda machine is up and running! Do we believe the Punch? The stories are so different.
I believe it.
The question is why is Alaibe making noise about the "political dimensions" of the attack when he is one of the chief players in this dangerous dance in the Niger Delta? Having run for various posts and being at daggers drawn with Sylva and even never really on terms with Goodluck why is he the best man for this position. Throughout the first stages of Amnesty have you heard of militants attacking any of the committee members?

Im afraid Liyel Imoke is in for a rough ride and is completely out of his depth with what he has unleashed in his state at this delicate campaign time where youth are already primed for violence. Goodbye cross river tourism. Whatever they promised him I hope its worth throwing away investments by keeping this camp in his state.

Alaibes denials are sad. That theres an attack no matter how small, whether sponsored or not in a camp with international trainers is a sign to Goodluck that he needs to offload baggage ridden parasites like Alaibe where sensitive and serious issues are concerned.

Ex-militant leader summoned to Abuja over invasion of post-amnesty camp
Font size: By Augustine Avwode 03/07/2010 01:27:00

Security has been tightened in and around the Post-Amnesty and Reintegration Camp in Obubra, Cross River State following the invasion of the camp by suspected hoodlums.

The invaders, it was learnt, made an unsuccessful attempt to cause mayhem in the camp on Thursday, a move that was promptly countered by some vigilant ex-militants among those currently undergoing training in the camp.

The Nation gathered that about 10 suspected hoodlums attempted to disrupt the training session

The incident which caused panic following the counter move to repel the invasion has already been reported to the presidency which also ordered a thorough investigation of the ugly incident.

Also, our source revealed that an ex-militant leader from Bayelsa State has been summoned to Abuja to explain his alleged role in the botched invasion of the camp.

And nine ex-militants alleged to be masterminds of the security scare have been expelled from the reintegration camp while another has been placed under security surveillance by the camp authorities.

A source from the camp said: "We were in our classes on Thursday morning when suddenly some boys, about 10, just appeared from nowhere and they started singing solidarity songs. We thought they were part of us and probably trying to make the atmosphere livelier, but they soon started singing war songs, abusing everybody including the president and even other facilitators. But they did not stop there, they made to forcibly enter the classes.

"It was at this point that some of us felt we should do something, at least to protect ourselves. So we engaged them and drove them out, and some had injuries."

The source added that the actions of the hoodlums clearly have political undertone. He expressed dismay that opposition to the post amnesty programme has been most vociferous from the most unlikely quarters just to score cheap political point.

"The amnesty and post amnesty programme are all matters for the federal government. It is not a state thing and I see no reason why it should be politicized. Whatever political persuasion we hold, individually, such be buried for the success of the post amnesty programme. This is not the place for such differences to manifest," our source fumed.

Reacting to the development, Coordinator of the Post Amnesty Programme and Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta Affairs, Mr Timi Alaibe, said the situation had been brought is under control.

"The situation is under control, we are determined to succeed and if anybody has decided to use these boys, I can assure you that they cannot scuttle this programme. We are well past the stage of failure, our plan is to make a success of this are we will succeed’ he vowed.

The regular police have since been replace by riot policemen at the camp where about 2000 ex-militants are undergoing training and further rehabilitation.

Post-amnesty: Ex-militants attack Alaibe

Indications emerged on Thursday that the Presidential Adviser on Niger Delta and Chairman of the Federal Government Amnesty Committee, Mr. Timi Alaibe, was attacked by aggrieved ex-militants undergoing rehabilitation at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation camp, Obubra, Cross River State

Our correspondent gathered that Alaibe, who was escorted by armed security operatives, arrived the centre at about 5pm, having gone there on a familiarisation tour and to have pep talks with the ex-militants. It was gathered that Alaibe was also billed to address the ex-militants and introduce the rehabilitation and re-integration programme to them in an induction ceremony, which began on Thursday morning.

The ex-militants, who had earlier begun the ceremony with officials of the Foundation for Ethnic Harmony in Nigeria, were assembled in eight different halls when Alaibe arrived.

But protesting poor allowances, the repentant militants pounced on the presidential adviser and rough-handled him before they also destroyed the windscreen of his car and damaged other cars in the complex.

Our correspondent gathered that the furious ex-militants had planned to take Alaibe and some top government functionaries in the camp hostage to demonstrate their seriousness. They were said to have rained abuses on him and hurled missiles at him and other dignitaries in the camp.

But it was learnt that the security operatives successfully ferried Alaibe and other dignitaries away to Calabar.

It was gathered that the anger of the ex-militants stemmed from claims that the Federal Government refused to pay them the allowances they had been promised before the commencement of the rehabilitation programme.

They were said to have claimed that the Federal Government promised to provide financial cover of N350, 000 for each ex-militant before kick-starting the rehabilitation programme.

A source from the camp said the ex-militants were not happy that the government started the programme without paying attention to their welfare and providing for their families.

It was learnt that the boys became uncontrollable when Alaibe told them that they were only entitled to N10,000 each after the two weeks training programme. But the ex-militants were expecting more than the amount as they said the main issues that led to the amnesty and the surrendering of their guns had been ignored.

The source, who pleaded anonymity, said it was by a stroke of luck that Alaibe escaped being held hostage by the ex-militants at the camp. “The boys are not happy with the way the programme started after much procrastination. They said the government should have considered their welfare and those of their families before starting the programme. They really attacked Alaibe, but security operatives saved the situation”, he said.

Another top leader of the militants, who spoke with one of our correspondents, said the boys were angry because they felt that the promises that followed the amnesty programme had been jettisoned by the Federal Government. The source added that the camp had no potable water, which also contributed to the aggression of the former militants. “The ex-militants became angry because some people told them that the federal government had approved N350,000 each for their housing allowance. But, this is not true. Such money was not part of the programme,” he said.

Speaking with one of our correspondents on the phone, Alaibe denied being beaten up by the ex-militants, saying that he was okay and was in his office in Calabar.

He said, “I believe that there is a political dimension to the whole thing. I mean this claim that I was attacked. If you come to my office, you will see that there is nothing like that. It was only about 10 of the boys who were demanding what they were not promised. But the place is calm and lectures are going on now.”

I just feel sorry for Cross River State because this will affect all the branding and tourism. Who wants to holiday next to a militant camp?

whose money will they continue to use to prop up weak banks? Do you really think the public will not descend on Sanusi if he keeps 420billion of public funds in a country where people are owed salaries tied up with these banks?
Or perhaps the extra billions they need should come from the public purse as well?

If they can raise the cash then let them do so. this is culling

My dear if he doesnt rush these people will press all their PDP buttons and sponsor and bribe more foreign ratings agencies and anything they can do to stop this action. That is why I believe once he identified the 5 that were the main problem quick moves had to be made.

Im glad a couple of those 419 ratings agencies are distancing themselves now.

Please lets focus on the banks that are healthy and learn lessons from there. For me thats more interesting.

Is it about corruption first? That will come later.
Its about CBN moving in to stop a cave in of banks that are big enough (thanks to consolidation) to bring all the others down with them.
Figures are available but we choose to close our eyes. I saw the wishy washy ads Cecelia ibrus lawyers have out. Scanning the Vangaurd piece in one and listing all the great things oceanic has done in the second. PUHLEASE, ARE THEY A PR FIRM OR ARE THEY LAWYERS! Quite franky if thats what they want to do in court then CBNs facts are real and its a shame. I expected to see statements, figures something beyond you are being selective blah blah blah.

Oceanic is your liquidity -26% Yes or No. Gosh we are doomed in this country. CBN is well within its rights. Thank goodness the other banks where not the foolish virgins.

Please leave that Vanguard agenda piece first jo. It screams of defense pr from people who knew they would go down. What of the independent reports that showed the fault lines in our financial sector? Punch published a summary of one and the paper mysteriously "sold out". We can jaw jaw all we want.
Fact is five banks were reponsible for hogging 90% distress funds (my term) for one year.
while a few banks responded to the uncertainty by infusing more transparency others created more rope for their own hanging. The filth that will emerge will be amazing so Im not shocked this agenda campaign is being pushed to distract us. Details of Ibori and his shenanigans alone can bring down Oceanic. Taking a company loan with a state owned asset as collateral. Smart bastard had a front though.

Its easier to entice shareholders of sick companies.

Imagine someone with 2million shares now worth 100k crying at home. Oga takeover offers you (mind you shareholders contacts are not secret) 1million kia kia. Multiply this even amongst a few of the big wigs who need quick cash (now they have to pay up), Also remember with the 420Billion cash injection CBN is prob majority shareholder. In a blink of an eye your company is gone.

Life isnt fair. But this help awakens complacent companies. thruth be told Nigerian publicly quoted companies on the eve of the bubble burts are easy pickins

"Why would Sanusi rush to take action against 5 banks when the auditing of the remaining 14 banks is still ongoing?"

Because these 5 are responsible for 85% of the problem. Please stop being deliberately naive. How long do you think he coulve kept this under wraps without those titans and the big names you saw as debtors shutting this down.

Please stop this madness. If its a conspiracy Oceanic and co should return the lifeline given to them. my questionWhy are they asking for an additional 140Billion (after receiving 120billion) if its a lie and they are healthy. How can a CEO take a bank to minus26% liquidity and still have effontry to grandstand?

They should all apologise to the OWNERS of the banks. THE SHAREHOLDERS who are left with worthless scraps of paper called share certificates after these criminals screwed them over.

Naija Bank Brouhaha

When Nigerians discuss what is wrong with their country (a beloved National pastime) bad leaders are usually fingered as the main cancer.

If any naive person asks why we choose to accept these bad leaders the answer is simple; we didn’t vote them in so they aren’t accountable to us. They won’t listen. Nothing can change. Only God can save this country.
So we offer support either passively through silence or actively working the “man know man” network to redistribute some survival cash in the green white green jungle. There is even a wily breed that vociferously attacks any leader(even girls scouts) preferably on TV, in widely cc’d emails to potential NGO donors and in the pages of papers for recognition and eventual settlement as consultants to any side with the deepest pockets. We all agree on what we would like but not on how to get there.

What has this got to do with banks? Well everyone is in shock over Sanusi Lamido of the CBN’s (Central Bank of Nigeria) cleansing of the commercial banking Aegean stables where not less than 5 bank CEO’s where sacked over reckless management style that has eroded shareholders funds while actively concealing their weak state over time. Apparently risky investments in the downstream oil and gas sector in a market where oil prices tumbled and Naira value sommersaulted have contributed to the sack of the CEO's. Does CBN have the power to do this? Yes.

My question is why did it take Sanusi Lamido of the CBN to do what shareholders and boards should have done for themselves?

I think we have a peculiar concept of what leadership is. For many Nigerians leadership is simply a position. A position which when attained has little to do with responsibilities or functions. Once divorced from systems or institutions the “Big oga” personality cult is the next logical focus. From our leaders we demand favours, praise sing, eulogize, or envy instead of demanding service and according respect based on exemplary performance and honour.

So if you accept bad leadership because leaders are rigged in through fraudulent elections how do you accept bad leadership in an institution THAT YOU WILLINGLY INVESTED YOUR MONEY IN? I can hear the chorus of “but we didn’t know”. Did you want to know?

It is obvious that the board members either lacked the courage to blow the whistle and or profited from insider deals at the expense of shareholders. The shareholder association leaders must all be scrutinized thoroughly as well.
Let us not delve into why this escaped CBN’s hammer for this long. The point is there is a structure and there are processes within the system that should prevent this sort of corporate fraud from occurring, which will never work if we Nigerians continue to apply our feudal passive notions of leader and follower to business investments.

This hasn’t only happened in Nigeria. People world over have been fooled by slickly presented and economical with the truth financial organizations that are little more than private business funds for an incestuous elite whose greed ignored the principles of prudent investment instead choosing high risk high yield ones.
I agree this is so, but I could not help noticing that our refusal to play active roles in governance structures corporate or otherwise, the culture of blame, refusal to take responsibility for better outcomes and an inability to sustain collective action affect our progress as a Nation in every sector.

In summary let’s turn to some good ole African proverbs. A lizard in Calabar cannot become an alligator in China. What is bad is bad. No amount of awards, CNN ads, Chieftaincy titles, honorary degrees, newspaper inches, conflicting financial ratings, or shameless ethnic conspiracy theories should substitute for un-doctored balance sheets or an answer to the question; what is happening to my money?

Advice to Ms/Mr/Mrs shareholder/depositor

• You have rights. Use them.
• Sue all those 419 foreign financial “thingamajigs” that gave fake ratings to these banks.
• Harass the boards. They owe shareholders with 1 share an explanation as to how this happened.
• Do the same to your shareholder association leaders
• Remember leaders have jobs and it’s part of your job to ensure they do it.

Extra rant,

Banks, wouldnt you rather fund manufacturing and businesses that provide jobs, instead of supporting the self destructive mad irony of the 5th largest producer of crude in the world importing fuel for domestic use?

The people that arent militants will get jobs because businesses/organizations can thrive. Can you imagine the number of jobs lost from infrastructure projects that cant be done for fear of kidnapp, how many people lost thier jobs in berger etc?
My aunt shut down her supermarket when militant factions where doing gun battles in front of it and curfew was effing up her sales.

How many companies have closed shop?
How many people will invest in endeavours that create jobs in a crazy environment?

Most of my friends that were succesfully self employed sub contractors/ contractors in PH b4 this madness have been reduced to coming to Abuja to compete for small crumbs.

They arent just paying money. DDR involves social and economic reintgration.
What is DDR - Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration

Disarmament
This involves comprehensive ways of recovering arms, ammunition, explosives and allied equipment from militants and preventing their recirculation in the society. Recovery of arms through voluntary action and free will on the part of the militants and engagement of stakeholders is the desired methodology of the Government of Nigeria.

Demobilization
Demobilisation comes after disarmament and involves registration and gathering necessary information from ex militants for the purpose of preparing them for reintegration into the community through acquiring education, skills, or entrepreneurial support.

Reintegration
Ex militants will be socially and economically reintegrated into civil society over time. The reintegration process will be handled through existing Government Institutions and programmes with participation from all stakeholders including the civil society.

Nothing will develop in the Niger Delta in the current climate. No one will invest. Smal businesses will continue to close. Constrction will cease. My friend who is a contractor from the ND in PH shut down his PH office and layed of all his staff when 3 off his friends kids were kidnapped in quick succession and one of thier mothers shot in broad daylight in front of them. Luckily it was just her hand. My Andoni bros abandoned his water pipe project when the militant payoff exceeded his profit. Today he does contracts in Bauchi as a sub contractor and pays Bauchi youths to work. Madness.

Right now a road or water project that costs N100 million (even with generous kick back and front and lining of pocket built in) has to be doubled to N200 million to offset security (ie mafia bribes). If thats the case One trillion will vanish b4 any projects that touch the comon man will be completed. This is not about developing PH city or Yenegoa. Rural areas nko?

war will not work. whether we choose to call militants criminals or or not. until we engage them in talking and support it with actions we wont move forward. i believe this amnesty is our last chance. i prefer to pressure government to sieze the opportunity to engage in massive infrastructure dev and promptly adress injustices and displacement of persons as well.
Politics / Re: Amnesty Package: Militants To Get N20,000 Each Monthly - N1,500 For Food Daily by nairakween: 11:02am On Jul 20, 2009
This is good. Guarateed shelter, food, a 20k stipend and a chance at long term career/vocational support is nothing to sniff at.  Foot soldiers dont make as much money as you all imagine. Besides the life expectancy to enjoy de mullah is low. Most likely you may be wasted by infighting in ur own camp or fights between rival camps. Anyone in PH during the Ateke Soboma fight knows what I mean. They kill each other more than JTF does. Who no wan stay alive.

The big shot militants have serious cash to invest and will probably just do a legitimate form of thier business. Asari came out of the creeks long ago is he poor?
At least the pressure to spend all thier dough on guns will reduce. They go still buy I know but not as much.

Latsly the big guns can do proper politics instead of being hired guns for the politicians that helped create them. Every thing is in a state of flux.

If you love militants so much at least no you can vote for  any that runs for office ar ask one to sponsor you to run. Me sef fit consider this route.
Men love to glamorize war. e dey tire me.
Car Talk / Re: The Effects Of Naira Devaluation On Car Prices by nairakween: 9:39am On Feb 24, 2009
because of fallen oil prices the Nigerian Govt is focusing on increasing revenue via taxation big time. So all the rock bottom priced cars in jand wont help us, by the time customs slaps the new tarrifs on them they will be tres expensive
