The Human Rights Liberty Access and Peace Defenders Foundation (HURIDE) has lamented deplorable state of roads in Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State. The group gave an ultimatum to the state governor Mr Willie Obiano to immediately commence work in rehabilitating the deplorable roads in the states in or face protest in 14 days. The leader of the group, Dede Uzor Uzor during an inspection visit and mock commissioning of several deplorable roads across Ogbaru on Saturday said the roads linking the biggest market in West Africa with the Western flank was at the verge of being cut off. Mr Uzor made this known when he commissioned the Obodo-Ukwu and Ede roads in the area. He said the decision to organise a mock commissioning of the roads was informed by the governor’s negligence to the road, warning that the group would not hesitate to mobilise human right community and other progressive minds to occupy the road if nothing was done after 14days. He said, “Obodo-Ukwu road is strategic to the economic prosperity of the state because it links Owerri Road with the entire Ogbaru Local Government Area including Harbour industrial estate. “We’re here to commission the road which has cut into two since Governor Obiano whose primary duty is to construct road has forgotten or is too busy to pay attention to the rehabilitation of the road and others in the state. “That is to say that he is too busy to govern. So we are helping him to commission some of these bad roads, so that any time he wakes up from slumber, he can come and do the road. “After 14 days and there is no action by the Governor, we would not hesitate to mobilise human right community and other Plrogressive minded people to occupy the road until something drastic is done.” https://www.news9naija.com.ng/2020/06/20/rights-group-dares-obiano-mock-commissions-bad-road-and-vows-to-stage-protest/

Ogun State Governor, Mr Dapo Abiodun has on Friday suspended ongoing plans to reopens churches and mosques in the State, News9naija reports. Recall that the Ogun State government had earlier fixed June 19 for gradual reopening of religious and worship centers across the state. However, the Governor has rescind the government's earlier decision citing the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state as reason the government is making U-turn on its earlier decision. He said, “Consequently, we are confronted with two choices – yield to the demand of those who want the restrictions to be further relaxed or even completely removed, even if this is at variance with the dictates of incontrovertible data analysis and scientific opinion; or tow the path that preserves public health and safety, even if not so popular. “As a responsible administration, we choose life and the wellbeing of our citizens and are therefore constrained to take the painful but necessary decision to maintain the current regime of eased lockdown in the meantime. “We are consequently suspending our initially slated reopening of places of worship.” https://www.news9naija.com.ng/2020/06/20/gov-abiodun-suspends-plans-to-reopen-churches-mosques-indefinitely-in-ogun/
