Spicy ahs given you good advice. Truth is you are the one who knows you. Being an enterpreneur is not a day's job. It can however be very fulfilling if done right. N100,000 is not small to start but you must define exactly what you want to do and have the singleness of mind to be dogged about achieveing your goals. Done well, you would have more than enough to still do CCNA if that is what you want. |

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Qualities & Duties Expected An Executive Asst : Your Advice & Suggetions. by nikinash(f): 7:52pm On Jul 12, 2012 |
Congrats on getting a job! You have absolutely no need for panic mode. A job usually comes with job descriptions, moreso seeing as you will be working in a legal firm. So rest easy, and enjoy having a job. One of the first things I expect you will be given as you resume is a job description. However note that duties of an executive assistant can vary from making tea to making photocopies to holding brief for your boss when he is not there. But from experience, there isn't really a one-size fits all description of what your duties may entail. 1 Like |

I apologize for not coming back to the thread earlier. To GboyegaD, I would say do not compare yourself to any other candidate, you don't know them or what they are capable of. Simply expantiate on your strength and let your enthusiasm show through. Consider yourself on the other side of the table, what would you like to hear and see? Many times it not only what you say that a prospective employer is looking at but your demeanor. Summarily, be very honest, enthusiastic, confident and get your message across. My other interest is for people who are "too old". I apologize in advance because I may offend you by what I am about to say. It is more than likely that if you have not had a job within two years after leaving school, it gets more difficult to get a job thereafter, this is by no means a generalist statement as many people do go on to have excellent jobs. However in my sojourn I have experienced the fact that when someone has a long unemployment gap, chances of getting into the next job is reduced because employers want a track record! It's that simple. My plea is take the job that offers you little pay, learn, grow and look for your dream job while you are there. Everyday there are vacancies online, offline, networked. Don't wait forever for the oil company, telecoms or bank job while you get older and more non-fitting into an employment age bracket. You really will never know where that job will take you unless you take the plunge. I am aware that there are many bad stories of small business owners owing salaries etc, but there a many more who treat their staff well. In summary, don't give yourself an excuse for stagnancy, the job where you started small can be your launchpad into the future you deserve. |

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: List Of Fake Employment Companies. Stay Off Them. by nikinash(f): 9:45am On Jun 20, 2012 |
The way recruitment services work is that the hiring organisation pays for the services of a recruitment company to help them in the selection process. So any one asking for payment from job seekers is not a genuine recruitment organisations. Please do not suscribe to anyone asking for money just because you are desperate to get a job. |

Jobs/Vacancies / Why You Are Not Getting The Job. by nikinash(f): 1:06pm On Jun 01, 2012 |
I recruit for businesses and in my nearly 10 years of recruiting I have come across various kinds and types of situations. I just thought to share a few overlooked reasons why you may not be getting calls for interviews. (At least calls for interviews). Anyone with other reasons should please feel free to post them. Maybe we can help even one person land his next job. 1. Some people use boxbe or other mail verification services for their yahoo mails. If you do, you may need to remove it because if a prospective employer sends you a mail that bounces back asking him to click on something before the mail gets delivered, more often than not, they won't. 2. Many people use email addresses they do not check. Its amazing how many times I have sent emails inviting folks for interviews and they will send a mail weeks later saying how sorry they were for missing my mail and could they have new dates! Make sure you use a mail box that you are going to check frequently. 3. Check your mail regularly. Sounds farfetched but people send cvs and when they are responded to, there is no answer. If you can facebook, then you should check your mails. We need to remember that the world is faster now than it was, so when you apply for a vacancy, things move faster than before. 4. Truth of the matter is most employers want younger people, but if you are older but have a lot to offer as stated on your Cv, then leave out your age. Let them find out how old you are when they call you for interview at which point, they may choose to overlook the age requirement if you are good. 5. What does it really hurt to send a CV? Many times people will answer a vacancy ad where it is clearly stated that a CV should be sent, without sending any CV. If you have security concerns, then maybe leave out details that you feel could hamper your security, but you need to allow the employer browse through your cv. 6. When sending out applications to multiple organisations at once, leanr to use the BCC in your mail browser. That ensures that the person you are sending to does not see others you have sent to. Its sometimes annoying when you have to scroll down a mail before you finally get to the message because the person has set to very many people and the main message is way down on the page. It also sometimes irks that the prospective employer is just one in a long line of maybes. 7. Follow instructions, it can;t hurt. For example, if the instruction asks for cover letters, please send cover letters. If you do not send cover letters your application will not even be looked at. This applies to other instructions the recruiter is asking for. Please feel free to add more or discard in totality. 10 Likes |

Education / Re: Emphasis On Mathematics & English Causes Mass Failure - Educationist by nikinash(f): 11:27am On May 24, 2012 |
I recently found out that the nursery song we used to sing as sandalili sandalili is actually standard living standard living... This for me is just an attestation to the fact that our educational problems are very very foundational. They start not even from primary school but from nursery school. If you teach a child the wrong basics, he can only build on it. We need to go to the very basics of learning like i said before if things are going to change. It is not when students write WAEC that they don't suddenly know what they are doing, it started way before they got into secondary school. |
