Politics / Court Stops Folasade, Tinubu’s Daughter, Others From Levying Computer Village by nku5: 1:14pm On Feb 27, 2021
A Lagos State High Court has barred Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, the daughter of All Progressives Congress leader, Bola Tinubu, from imposing levies on traders at the Computer Village, Lagos.

The development comes over a year after Tinubu-Ojo, who is also the Iyaloja-General of Lagos State reportedly imposed leaders on the traders who then introduced new levies, a development which sparked a series of protests at the Computer Village.

Others who were similarly barred from imposing levies include: Mrs. Bisola Azeez, Mr. Adeniyi Olasoji, Nofiu Akinsanya, Tony Ikani and the Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

The order is sequel to a fundamental human rights suit marked ID/9039MFHR/19 instituted against the five respondents by the five major stakeholders that represent the traders at the Computer Village.

The stakeholders representing the traders include: The Registered Trustees of Computer and Allied Products Dealers Association of Nigeria; Registered Trustees of Phone and Allied Product Dealers Association of Nigeria; and Registered Trustees of Phone Parts and Accessories Dealers Association of Nigeria.

Other applicants include: the Registered Trustees of Association of Caterers, Food and Drinks Vendors of Ogunbiyi Computer Village, Ikeja, Lagos; Registered Trustees of Ikeja Books, Stationeries and Computer Association and Azeez Olunrin.

The judgment, which was delivered by Justice Yetunde Pinheiro read in part, “I find that the 2nd and 3rd respondents’ imposition of levies on the applicants is illegal, null and void and therefore amounts to a violation of their fundamental rights.

“Accordingly, it is hereby ordered as thus: The first to fifth respondents by themselves, agents, levy collectors howsoever called are restrained from imposing levies and/or fines on the members of the 1st to 5th applicants at the Ikeja Computer Village in the Ikeja Local Government Area of Lagos State.”

In a letter titled, ‘Dear members, Our Court Victory against Iyaloja and Babaloja and Others in Computer Village, Ikeja’, the leadership of the Computer Village rejoiced over the judgment.

In the letter signed by its Chairman and Secretary-General, Timi Famoroti and Jerry Mba respectively, members were asked not to pay tax to Tinubu’s daughter or her representatives.

It read in part, “The implications of this landmark judgement is that the Iyaloja General, Chief Mrs. Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, Mrs. Bisola Azeez, And Mr. Olasoji Adeniyi or their representatives or agents cannot collect any form of dues, levies or fines from the members of Ikeja Computer Village Market. Any collection in this regard is illegal.

“We therefore urge you not to submit yourself to any form of payment, intimidation and extortion. It is your right to defend yourself and report to your leaders in case there is a violation of your fundamental human rights.

“Please ensure you document with concrete evidence and report any breach of your right to your leaders. This will help our legal action/s against any violators when necessary. We therefore urge every member to continue to pay your agreed dues to your various associations accordingly.”

Traders were also advised to pay their personal and company income, taxes, levies and others to the appropriate government agencies at the national, state and local governments when due.

Ironsi and Ojukwu caused it! If Ojukwu didn't embark on that war Awolowo wouldn't have adviced Gowon to abolish resource control in a bid to shore up their defence budget.

Centralization had already started under Ironsi.

At least you now agree that Gowon took away Niger Delta resources. Na when man wake up be him morning. Check your history well. Gowon's decree was before the war grin go and find another excuse instead of taking responsibility for your own destiny.

Ijaws aligned with the FG 50+ years ago and today their condition has not improved but gotten worse. With pollution, poverty and militant cultism that Boro introduced.

Igbo took away our resource control. Boro was neither settled nor deceived to fight you. Boro fought you because for over 20 years Igbo blocked every attempt by our political leaders like Biriye and Okilo to get autonomy and resource control for the Ijaw and other minority groups.

It was not Fulani people imprisoned Boro, it was Igbo people.

The first head of NNPC was not a Fulani, it is from you Southerners Fulani learn their evil acts.

So Gowon that abolished resource control is now Igbo? Festus Marinho from Lagos state was the first NNPC MD.

I doubt you are Ijaw! If you are you would know that our fathers like Harold Dappa Biriye ( from Bonny in Rivers state) and Melford Okilo ( from Ogbia in Bayelsa state) were at the forefront in the battle to end Igbo political and economic domination in the now defunct eastern region. They tried through political means but it did not work. That was what motivated Boro to declare independence when an Igbo was head of state and another Igbo was governor of the now defunct eastern region.

Indomie generation grin

Boro was deceived by the north to destroy the Eastern region like they had done to the Western region. I was thinking you would at least mention how the Niger Delta was marginalised. The Niger Delta sold out to the north and is today faring worse than it was under the Eastern region with militancy, poverty, lack of development and pollution of your land and waters. Some of your big men were settled but you are mostly poor and oppressed.

This niger delta you talk about, do you know that the Igbo are the largest tribe in terms of population in niger delta followed by ijaw? 9 local governments in delta is Igbo, 65% of rivers state is Igbo. There are Igbo in bayelsa and others niger delta States, benue and kogi state. I suppose you are not looking at 5 states as Igbo land?

We are on the same page. Igbo land also forms part of the Niger Delta but I was referring to the non-Igbo tribes in the old Eastern region

From the looks of things, we Ijaws had been the first tribe to officially reject Nigeria, I think amongst the three major tribes, the Igbos had been fair enough.

Igbos Eastern Region Cited the Refinery in PH, a city that would have served all most tribes of Niger Delta, Igbos had been in the forefront of Nigeria independence, so it could have been fair that Capital of Eastern region be in Enugu or Igboland, all the three major tribes had their regions capital in their major cities so why do we expect that the capital of the East will not be in Igboland...

Most people think it is the destiny of the Ijaws to see the Igbos as rivals, well I may not see them as brothers but they are our good neighbours, if Igbos wanted they could have used our oil as bargaining chip during the war but they did not go that part, from the look of things, Igbos listen more than the three major tribes, within the whole declaration, Adakar borrow lived when Igbos was in charge but few moments of romance with non eastern tribes and he disappeared, even our oil wells are not hijacked by the Igbos.

The Bayelsa where I live, there are more Igbos in Lagos than in Bayelsa, so let's bare our mind, what is our beef with the Igbos, if Nigeria divides, Biafra will also divide and Niger Delta will most likely also divide so at the end we will be left with our old neighbours the Igbos as tribal neighbours so what's our real beef with the Igbos.

Isaac Boro was on scholarship from the Eastern region at UNN and was not victimized when he started his armed revolt like Ahmadu Bello used the military to smash the Tiv riots in the Northern region and kill thousands of people

The best time the Ijaws and Niger Delta enjoyed in this country was under the Eastern region. Though I don't think the ND should share a country with Igbos if Nigeria breaks

Soludo is going nowhere, he should forget it. We need a dark horse, not somebody that has been in the system. Besides we haven't forgotten how he attacked Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala during the GEJ administration on behalf of APC. Besides our state has benefited from power moving from party to party. When it stayed in PDP we suffered for it.

A fugitive called Nnamdi Kanu created a terrorist group called Eastern security network under the umbrella of Ipob( the main terrorist organization)

The Nigerian government has already designated the group as a terrorist organization and will do everything in their might to flush out the group.

If you see the tactics of the group, they are already using boko haram tactics to scare off igbo people that are against them.

For instance, they threatened and kill those who are against them thereby silencing opposition.

It is no news, that many organizations in the east are already being infiltrated with people who have ties with IPOB, this is dangerous for those who oppose them.
Many of these opposition are threatened and silenced to submission with threat of being thrown out of the market or threat to their families.

The terrorist group Ipob is already using boko haram tactics to force the igbo populace into submission.

If these terrorists group are not flush out by igbo people and the Nigerian government, soon our high ways will be filled up with ipob terrorists robbing and kidnapping law abiding igbos.

There is nothing like ESN. Has anybody ever seen them? Why are people so gullible

This might be like beating a dead horse. I feel all reasoning fly out the window when people hear the name Trump. Initially, you dare not say there was vote-rigging. It's grounds for law enforcement coming after you. All of a sudden, mainstream media writes an article in which it boldly talks about why the election was rigged[fortifying democracy]...WHY? They knew it would cause violence, didn't they? I mean, on Twitter, the people that are angry ain't Trump supporters. It was those who felt misled. TIME magazine wanted to get in front of information that would be coming out, so they can control the anger and most of all, the narrative.

The parallels between this and the Nigerian 2015 elections are just too similar. The difference being the sheer effrontery by the riggers to admit they rigged
