Dear Moderators, is it possible to maybe bring this to the front page? My book has been accepted for publication in the UK and distribution in the UK, US, Canada (etc) has been sorted. We’re now looking for a very reputable publisher/distributor for the African (especially Nigerian) market. Who will be the best candidates? Many thanks for your help. |

My 2 pence to euromilion, as somebody who also resides abroad, is that yes you will go through bad experiences with our people at home. Learn from these experiences, but (actually for your own good) you have to keep looking till you find somebody you can trust - they are few, but there. The idea to reconsider building at all is however also a good one. I have, for the same reason, not yet built on the lands I've bought in Nigeria. All the best |

spyder880: Many thanks Spyder880. I'm grateful |

spyder880: Thanks a lot. From your entries in the past, I guess the price of the gates also need to be reviewed? |

spyder880: I thought the measurement of 1200sq meters (for each land) gives good idea of the size? I don't have other dimensions. |

My brothers and sisters, wonderful job you are doing here. I have been following with great interest. Spyder880, looks as if I’ve found in you the person to carry my village project in the East (Anambra). Before then, everybody please contribute, I recently bought the land below in the outskirts of Abuja. I have put down the dimension and what I’ve been given as the estimate to finish the walling. Please let me know what you think, ie how reasonable? Thank you very much. They are two pieces of land, adjacent to each other, each measuring 1200sq meters . One of them is fully walled without a gate, while the second one is fully walled on one side, 3 blocks above DPC on two sides with only the front without wall. Estimate given is as follows: WORK INVOLVED 1. 2 IRON GATES, MOUNTING OF GATES WITH CONCRETE PILLARS, BLOCKWORK ONE OF THE FRONT WALLS. 1. 2 NOS. 4m wide sliding gate, N96,000, 00 each, 192.000.00 2. Excavations/concrete blinding, 71,000.00 3. Block work, 168,000.00 4. 4nos concrete collumns, 32,000.00 5. Transport/sunderies, 15,000.00 6, Water, 5,000.00 TOTAL= 483,500.00 I was further told that this estimate was done when a bag os cement was N1,650.00 but it is now N2,000.00 and that the implication is that the estimate will be higher. Also, that if I want to complete the perimetry wall, about N250,000.00 more will be needed. |

I feel compelled to make a contribution here. My advice would be to keep your options open. If the UK has become too difficult “to penetrate”, what about elsewhere? I, for instance, studied in Europe. I could not have afforded to study my course in the UK – plainly too expensive and I lacked the means. It meant I had to learn an European language (when I got there), but after which I was almost treated like a king and completed my studies on scholarship. The advantage of not having many blacks in Europe means that the few who are there and who are doing well (not chasing quick bucks) end up being seen as kings (you know what they say about one eyed person in a land of the blind). Can you imagine the Nigerian ambassador coming to my graduation without invitation, because such occasions were so rare and he was so proud? So I’ve got to the UK through the “back door”, because they did not have an option but to accept my qualification, since I studied in an EU country (and along the way acquired EU kpali – but that’s another story). So I would say, also have the courage to consider the less trodden path – it has potential to pay off big time! Good luck |

I would be grateful if people here could point me in direction of best brokers, with good online presence, in Nigeria now - don't mind those that would require large sums to register. I have used cashcraft till now, but looking at alternatives. Thanks in advance. |

I don’t think the sole reason for people advocating that their children, or pupils who were bright for that matter, go into the initially mentioned professions was just for the money. One cannot forget the level of respect attached to such professions (in the past!) , not to mention the positive impact having a “lawyer or a doctor in the family” had in the society. Things have changed of course – the emphasis is now more on how much one is making. There are also more opportunities (in other fields) which was not the case before – which is a good thing. So similar to what obtains in the western world, where you do not have to be a graduate to make a heck of a money (Bill Gates and co come to mind). The challenge for Nigeria is for people to make such money in more legitimate ways – but it will happen! ![]() Think about the mobs running different parts of the US (NY and Chicago) in the past ![]() ![]() |

ok.: I would be grateful for advice on what to tell this friend - how to be careful and all that. His wife is white and they have children. He plans to visit Nigeria with them this year. |

The post about the girl with a Norwegian boyfriend did not receive sympathy because of the way she was said to be carrying herself. I however think it could be difficult if you’re travelling home with a white partner – this whole advise not to be show off and not to be flashy would fall through the window since people will see from miles that you live abroad. The whole story about kidnapping does also not help ![]() A friend who is married to a white woman, with kids, is visiting Nigeria with all of them and has confessed to feeling anxious once in a while about the trip. What do people think about this kind of scenario? |

What do people think of this news about parents selling their children for money in Nigeria? It is true?, or realistic? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml;jsessionid=PNFSAISOPRMONQFIQMFSFGGAVCBQ0IV0?xml=/news/2008/01/27/nslave227.xml |

I am in the process of opening the NRN ( Non Resident Nigerian) account with UBA - the process is in fact almost concluded and they are now asking me to pay in 100,000 Naira for the naira account and $1,000 for the USD Domiciliary account to fund and hence open the account. Has any one had any experience with this account? The account is only for non-resident Nigerians. |

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2007/05/24/wfra24.xml I am obviously not in support of corruption, but could you guys imagine what would have happened if an African leader were to be linked with such sum of money - everybody would have said "typical"! The case is still under investigation, but makes you wonder really. |

Pity that no proper feedback has been provided about this topic, since it surely is one topic a few people would be interested in. |

The fear of becoming broke, should on the other hand, not become a handicap. The truth is that almost everybody who made a lot of money did not allow this fear to stop them. A major point is that they took calculated risks. It is interesting to hear people believing that if something major does happen to them, that somebody else (in the village) is most likely responsible. I wonder how much people really believe this. |

, but surely, you don't have to be a doctor to open a hospital. It's like saying you have to be a banker to open or start a bank. |
![]() |
Interesting, the myth and misconception that you have to be a medical doctor to have a "big" hospital, , etc. The truth is that those who work for money hardly have the time, or even the acumen, to make the such of money needed to start such projects. |

Interesting the link between education and making money. Yes a lot of education could become a handicap. |
