Just as @JohnZak mentioned, your OND+HND is already a BSc. Why going back to a community college that is more or less another OND? Look for Masters programs or even PhD programs. Obueze: 2 Likes |

You can apply for a change of non-immigration status while in the US by submitting form I-539 to the USCIS. It costs $470 to file paper and $420 to file online. Note that you won't be able to start your degree program until your application is approved by the USCIS. I believe there's an option of premium processing (by submitting form I-907) for form I-539. Note that premium processing costs additional $1,965. I have included some links to guide you. https://internationaloffice.berkeley.edu/immigration/changing_status https://www.uscis.gov/forms/all-forms/how-do-i-request-premium-processing ...Don't also forget the 90 days rule. Although it's more applicable to adjustment of status but it's still advisable to keep it in mind. freshStarz: 2 Likes |
Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by oluezekiel(m): 10:58pm On May 17 |
It is not a straightforward situation, but it can be. I submitted my AOS earlier in 2023 and had even received my EAD before my parents went for their B1/B2 visa interview in August. But their interview was tied to them attending my graduation (completed my PhD in 2023) in the same year. They were questioned about my program (school, major, degree level etc.) and how long I have been in the States. My mom mentioned that the VO even googled my name on my school website to be sure. They both got their visa. I believe it all depends on how she can tie her visit to an event that would not have anything to do with your (and your wife’s) status. An event that won’t raise concerns about your F-1 status. Look for a good/convincing reason why she should be allowed to visit you. Best of luck! soprano008: 2 Likes |

What a pity man... lol. You need help, seriously. Now I understand why some called you a madman earlier. Potential and current applicants should please read this thread and old threads to learn the process. It's very simple and straightforward. You'd have yourself to blame if you let ignorant, dubious and dumb fellows lead you astray. Everything you need to succeed in your application and interview has already been answered in the past. READ, DON'T BE LAZY! OyoTunjiUSA: 2 Likes |

DO NOT EVER QUOTE ME IN YOUR LIFE AGAIN with your ignorant advice. It seems like you sleep on this thread because it's super late for a busy person in Nigeria to be replying thread on Nairaland. Get busy with your life! I completed my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering without a prior Master's degree as other thousands of students have done before me and many other thousands are presently doing the same. @justwise, it is high time you took a step to address this person's situation. It is okay and normal to say "I don't know the answer to your question." No one expects you to always have answers to their questions. This is way, I mean, way way out of point. OyoTunjiUSA: 5 Likes |

How will the GPA increase to 3.7 - 3.9 from 3.51 for only the HND program after evaluation? What if the person had a GPA <3.0 in their OND program? Have you forgotten that both the OND and HND transcripts are going to be evaluated together to come up with the BS equivalent GPA? Nozino: |

NotsonewMary: It would be helpful if those who already submitted their petition could provide a summary of their profile. Like, Status : F-1, OPT, H-1B etc Number of Publications/Patents Letter of Recommendation. I'm also planning on applying asap but still not sure of the documents that will be needed. I don't want to be wasting money on lawyers consultations. Hope I'm not asking for too much. 5 Likes |

Unfortunately, he's not an antichrist. Most times, we don't understand religion. That's why it is very easy for the so-called religious people to abandon the church/mosque and other religious activities after spending some years in western countries. They realised that the basic things they prayed for while in Nigeria require only their preparations and efforts. I've met with people who were campus fellowship presidents and executive members while in Nigeria but have stopped attending church all together. All they do now is work, pay bills, exercise, etc and sleep. Most people pray in Nigeria because things are not normal. So they believe everything requires some terrestrial powers. We need a better understanding of religion. PS.: I don't doubt the place of favor and mercy. Omini247: 6 Likes 1 Share |

Dr., Canada hasn't opened its borders yet to Americans. Only US citizens and PRs are permitted from August 9th. So I don't think you'll be able to get anyone for now. GboyegaD: |

I'm not sure what you are trying to ask. But if you were able to renew it before your interview, there would not be any issues. The old passport will be marked "canceled without prejudice". So you're good. bukoso: |

I'm not sure if you will be able to renew your Passport in Nigeria looking at the expiry date, more than six months. It is not "difficult" to renew your passport in the US, you only have to be proactive about it. Looking at your situation, it's advisable to start the renewal process in December 2021/January 2022. You should be fine. bukoso: |

If you're referring to INNOVATE1, you're right. I think their office is based in Chicago. I had the same challenge as you regarding the double charge (October 2019) but I got refunded after two weeks of contacting them. Send a copy of the bio data (first) page and third page of your new international passport, reference ID/no of the payment you want to be refunded to this email address refund@innovate1services.com OldSkoolHeadBoy: 1 Like |

It would be better you complete the online application and make the payment. I believe the date you'd be given for biometrics capturing would tell you when the consulate would open. Presently, only Atlanta and D.C. consulates are issuing passport. A friend was given a date in late August after making the payment. Best of luck. Perotti: 1 Like |

Eniolakiite: The thing is IRS process your tax based on the form you submitted, it's the duty of an individual to file the right tax. I have friends that are presently owing IRS up to $2k from 2018 tax returns. For an international student to qualify as a resident alien for tax purposes, you must have been in the U.S. for 5 years (I am not too sure about this figure). E.g, someone who came into the U.S during Fall 2017 and has been filing tax using form 1040-NR/NR-EZ since then can file form 1040 by 2022. Don't be too sure about the bolded, even if the U.S. knows the onus is still on you to do right thing. You can't claim ignorance of the law. Does the government want to roast you and you're aiding it by rubbing your body with gas or the governmentwants to help you? I bet you know the answer! Some guys filed form 1040 (meant for residents) in the past and have successfully adjusted status today, so you might be hearing from them that it doesn't matter what form you submit for your tax. Nobody can tell who will be affected in the future. "And if truly non-resident aliens should not get the stimulus package, how come they are? Many international students got today." So far you filed your tax using form 1040 and have your direct deposit set up, you'll get the stimulus package. It's automatic! Whether something will come up in the future from this or not, nobody knows. 1 Like |

Eniolakiite: From the IRS page, international students are not qualified since they file 1040-NR and 10401040-NR-EZ, unless they have wrongly filed their taxe as a resident. See attached from https://www.irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payment-information-center

Wretch32: @TheGrandChemist already said it..."If you haven't passed the substantial presence test as an international student, the correct form for filing your taxes is the form 1040-NR (this is meant for non-resident aliens)." Or 1040-NR-EZ. Most international students file the wrong tax which has not resulted in any kind issue to some in the past. But it's not going to be wise at this time to depend on the luck that nothing will spring up later in the future from inappropriate filing of tax. Best thing is to do the right thing (1040-NR and 1040-NR-EZ) to avoid getting in trouble because of $1k+ from education credit and some few extra dollars. |
