marami:

Thanks for your response.

Let me give you a picture of my career path.

I actual studied computer science OND, did my advance diploma still in computer science and had MCP (Microsoft Certified Partners). Got my Advance Diploma and MCP while working in a private firm as a secretary for about 11 yrs now, but my dear the salary is nothing to write home about. I feel shy disclosing this to people that was why i requested you mail me, so we can discuss thru that media. With the liitle i have told you now i will appreciate if you could advice/suggest on how I can get a better job. I very good on the job, but have not gotten the opportunity of working in a WELL organised establishment. Please i realy need you advice.

Thanks and God bless.

Hi Marami, sorry about my tardy response, i ve been quite busy, well i must say i am impressed by your qualifications. Well it is so sad to know that you are being short-paid as a secretary, i ve come to understand that some establishments especially the private sectors, do not attach much importance to the secretarial position hence the inability to pay handsomely. Though it depends on the kind of establishment, as there are some private organisations that know the importance of a secretary in their establishments and so elevate their pay package. Well i must encourage you to keep working in your firm and check on newspapers for adverts on experienced secretarial positions and i also advice that you go back to school and complete your HND or get a direct entry into a university and gain a B.Arts. At least that would give a boost on your CV. I would always notify you if i see some interesting adverts on the position.

sssCheers and keep on keeping on

Onyii4j and modupsie,

From this thread I understand you were employed not based on what you studied. How was that possible?

Can i have your mail addresses, i need to discussion something confidential with you. This is my mail address megiszo@yahoo.com.

Please I really need to discuss with you.

Sorry i ve bn out of the forum 4 such a long time, straight 2 wat you asked , my dear anything is possible in Nigeria these days, afterall most people that work in banks didnt study any of the financial courses in the university. University education in Nigeria in my own opinion, more or less, serves as a stepping stone in one's career building. Some trained medical doctors end up being fashion designers, what matters is one's passion, drive, interests and determination to succeed, as well as satisfaction in their chosen career.

Glory b to Jesus!!! And honour to my Mother Mary.
I am really enjoying this topic.
I love all the saints, hence i do not have a favourite, but just like someone mentioned. I love Pope John Paul II, for lifting the early mystery attributes of the catholic church and for bringing evangelism into the catholic church.

He was a saint while on earth, and is indeed a saint in heaven!!!
Romance / Re: Date Someone In Same Street? by onyii4j(f): 5:11pm On Sep 12, 2008
Why not?
My fiance and i met here in Lagos while our parents live in Enugu.
We later found out that we actually live on the same street and the funny thing is that, our paths never crossed while we were both in Enugu.

Even if we had met in Enugu,i believe that close vicinity shouldn't be a barrier in dating someone, what matters most is the level of maturity of the parties involved, as well as the emotional connection and committment.

IVY4U:

The test was ok.It was simple, but they gave a feedback 30mins after the txt and called some persons that they were succesfull.
There was something that happened, all the successfull persons happens to be sitting in some particular side of the hall.I was told later by an insider that most off the successful people were their crew/ staff.

Ofcourse , we can't be expecting that they leave their staffs to pick outsider. what they woudnt have done was to drag people from their houses when they know who they wanted. The insider that told me said complains are coming into their office and he actually wanted to know if i noticed any fowl in the hall. na them sabi sha, at least am not loosing out, i still get my sponsors.

I thought i was the only one that noticed.
anyway @IVY, i wish you all the best in your endeavors, would really love 2 be flown by u, someday.

Career / Re: How To Discover Your Talent? by onyii4j(f): 11:33am On Sep 03, 2008
@ Cokolet, after reading your reply, it seems to me we re having almost the same problem.
Hear my story,
I am a mechanical engineering graduate, after searching for job for almost a year after NYSC, I registered for a data processing programme since i knew i ve a passion for computers, exactly a month and one week into the porgramme, i had to relocate to another area, due to family issues(i was staying with a cousin and she lost her husband).
Early this year, i registered for a computer networking programme at a computer training school in Yaba, because their fees are better than that of the good schools in my area(i live in Apapa). Halfway into the training, i got a job as a PA in a private firm, i couldnt continue with the programme because of time constraint.
I could get a place to continue with my computer training in my area, but my major constraint is finance.

I am also passionate about being a pilot and a lot of other things, being a pilot or a networking engineer would be beneficial to me(financially) and to my society, these are the things i feel i would always loved to be caught doing.
And apart from my professionional ambitions(or are they my talents?), i love reading, writing, cooking, painting, sewing and housekeeping at my leisure, and bet me, i always love doing al these.
I wonder if the latter could also be referred to as talents? If yes,My BIG question is; how can i develop these Talents and make them also financially beneficial to me.

comments pls!!!!!!!

Kudos to everyone who's been contributing to this thread,
I think this is one of the most educating topic in this forum.
I am a PA/Secretary in my organisation. Started working there since june this year,
but i studied engineering, but i ve come to really appreciate this profession more than my studied course.
Though its not been easy for me but i know i will get to the peak, soon!!!
My boss is a bit tough, but i like him because he's disciplined(hope he doesnt change), but he scolds me often, sounds to me like a perfectionist, i ve told him, once he asked for my general assesment of his personality but he said he's not.

Thanks to you all, am sure that your contributions would really help me in a long time.

Sports / Re: This Is The Olympic Story We Never Heard by onyii4j(f): 5:21pm On Aug 27, 2008
Very humble story.

@ topic, you should n't ve copied and pasted the story as if you were the real source.
What ever happens to writing "culled from whichever source" at the end? Atleast i also read the same story in Yahoo sports news about two days ago.

No sarcasm meant, just a note of correction. wink

mecussey:

Man should not leave by first class alone; but by everything first class is made up of. I want to ask, if our Nigerian first class award is really a first class? I found most of the so called first class guys in my class, so dumb in the field. Are they still first class?

@ Mecussey, do i detect a tone of envy, or is it jealousy? grin  lipsrsealed
Anyway thanx all for the contributions so far, in as much as i do not belong to this class now, i learnt this in my 4th and final years in school, but by then it was almost too late, but i buckled up and still made a better grade(2.2)
Am thinking of going back to school to study for another course, i believe with all these tips, i would make over 5.0 (if its possible) grin

Thanks all

You re incomplete with his/her absence wink wink

I quite agree with the first and last lines of your response, but i strongly disagree with the third line,The mere thought or mentioning of his/her name makes your heart beat 60times per seconds , that can only happen in the passionate stage of love(i call that; infatuation), that does not mean that the second stage(commitment) is not passionate.

i will come back with the full gists about (stages of love) tomorrow(i have the book at home) wink
