Hi everyone, I want to congratulate you guys for making it to the shortlist for test. With the number of applicants, I think you have already began to celebrate victories, as small as they may be. Let me go straight to the point. Its quite unfortunate how much information was lost after the nairaland data loss that happened many months ago. There was so much information here that could have helped you guys out with what to expect. There is no way such value can be replaced to this thread unless we you guys make an effort to build it for those coming behind. There is no need crying over spilt milk so I suggest we all get to work immediately. I must confess that I am extremely busy and I had to make a precise decision to give back to a thread that had a part to play in where I am today. I hope this serves as a catalyst to the arduous reconstruction of the value this thread once had. I’ll download as much as I remember, and I hope other recipients of this scholarship will find time to chip in something. All the information I give below is based on how things were last year and the year before. I will not be held accountable for any changes in what you encounter. The pressid have all the right to do so, if they wish The test is a computer based test, scored over 100, 60 mins. You get your results immediately the time runs out, so you leave the hall knowing how well you did. It consists of verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, some current affairs (more of African current affairs) but with some international, some crazy word puzzles that are just designed as time wasters. You do not require any course based knowledge to perform well. It is purely aptitude. You either know the answer or you don’t. If you waste more than 20 seconds understanding a question, leave it. No need to form superman. It was my observation that the simplest questions (5 second response time) kind of questions, were at the tail end…like number 90 to 100. You will only get there if you leave out stuff that waste time. You can always go back if you finish before time. Now, it’s a bit kind of hazy now, but lemme talk more specifically about the questions. The verbal were just basic English…complete the sentence kind of questions. I remember seeing some questions that required some knowledge of vocabulary (not GRE level…don’t fret). Also…some stupid word puzzles (perfect time wasters). The quantitative reasoning were all these figures with numbers where you are required to observe a pattern and say what shud be in an empty box (that kind thing). Current affairs were mostly African current affairs if I rem well. I particularly remember being asked the capital of Tanzania. (don’t go cramming countries and capitals because I said so oo..abeg). Just know your stuff. If you don’t know, leave it and move on. There will be many you know. No super man things. Finally, start applying to your choice schools now. Take GRE and TOEFL now if you want America. Apply now. I cant stress that enough. That’s all I remember for now. I hope some awardees will see this and be motivated to cheap in. Trust me, we are all crazily busy so I won’t blame anyone if they’ve forgotten nairaland exists. I’ve got to go now. I know there are definitely typo and grammar errors cos I din’t proof read so don’t crucify me. I wish you guys all the best….pls smash! 3 Likes |

Good day everyone, its interesting how peoples inquiries r attended to efficiently on this thread. Thanks to everyone who has kept this thread alive. I have a quick question. Will I be able to make my application fee payment using this card despite the payment being in aanother currency? That is, the naira equivalent be removed suvcessfully? Or is it outrightly impossible? Any first hand experience will be priceless. Loking forward to hearing from u guys. Thanks |

colossus12: d list 'll be out on d 15thBro...that aint cool at all...u drop this kind of word without supporting it, and allow pips do die of suspense. @ all: I suggest we wait calmly, 15th or not...the list will come out. Perhaps, he's a soothsayer or clairvoyant..lool. May our names be on that list. Amen 3 Likes |

Alimi7:My point is, its quite impossible to give a figure as a pass mark based on what any body saw on other screens. It'll present a non-representational sample size. Plus, I understand its not only the score that matters, other factors count (I don't know them). Which ever way, I think all we can do now is pray...every man to his own God (god). I wish everyone the best. |

If u'd ask мε, I don't think there's a cut-off. It'll depend on the performance of pips n the no they need, which we now knnow is about 200. |
![]() |
Not being pessimistic or anything. 200 will be goodnews for all of us. But, don't u think he refers to both last year and this year...there were 101 last year. Cud it be that there are also approx 100 this year? And he's refering to all candidates (last year n this year) who have been awarded the scholarship. Read the link carefully. The word 'recent' as used in context permits my reasoning. Does anyone share similar thoughts? 1 Like |

So...before we start forgetting...for anyone who hopes to write this someday...here's wat it was like: Very standard aptitude test, nothing course-specific, math stuff...all those diagrams with numbers where u av to decide the relationship btw the numbers n then answer a similar one (check that popular nigerian GMAT book). Word problems...Mr. So so is 3 times older than his mothers uncle's brother, n so on (hope u get...lool)...word problems sha. Current affairs...eg, capital of Tanzania. Which is nt a major city in south africa...etc. Names sha...agbani darego was Miss World in wat year, etc...more serious ones too like who was acting CEO of apple...can't remember exactly. Also, verbal stuff....words, opposites, contextual synonyms and antonyms...then stuff like ...eg. 2 words with same pronunciation but different spelling are called dash. Stuff like that. Then ehen....the simple questions where at the end. Many time wastin questions. U must decide to wisely skip such questions. I saw several easy 10 second answer qquestions at the end...where many people may av not reached. No road sign questions...not 1. Know ur road signs for ur own use...lool. Wat else. That's what I rem for now. If anything else comes up, I'll hola. Guys...if u rem anything to help futures guys...drop them now that u rem. Scores r displayed instantly. I doubt if it was negative marking, so I suggest guessing for unfarmiliar questions. Also rem u're testing along with intellectuals like urself so it all boils down to God. Twas fun. We hope for the best. 4 Likes |

Pips....gather info and share!!...for your fellow Nigerian. 6days to go |

And then...a recipient told me there was nothing on intended course....just general. So even though i dont advise completely neglecting fundamental knowledge about your intended course, i suggest (based on what i was told) to stay with aptitude measuring practise. |

@force of nature, jd babzy: God bless you guys too. See you at the top. Lets keep this thread alive even beyond our test. Most guys seem to forget places on the net they visited after the test (including me...lol). It'll help generations to come. Last year, i came across a thread on GRE exam stuffs, it changed my life, invaluable information you cant find anywhere else. So lets do same. Usually, shortly after the exam, some questions will linger in our subconcious...lets share them here. This is just the 2nd edition of the pressid so trust me....millions will benefit from every word we put up here, for years to come. I wish you guys all the best. Prep hard!! But no kee ya sef. Okay guys....let me say all i know. Had a nice chat with a recipient who is now in imperial...actually two guys in the same class. Both chats yielded the following in common. Their test was a 1 hr test with 100 questions. No calculators allowed. The first guy mentioned that a good vocab would be beneficial. Road signs, basic current affairs. Said the quantitative had one or two questions with charts and graphs...though nothing as hard as that dragnet thingy. Said for him, the questions were fun, that he dint prepare (not advising that o). Said he suspects gre kinda questions in ours cos of the Statement of Purpose we were added to our application which was absent from theres (he's opinion). The second guy was more critical about the whole thing. Said I shud prep well...randomly. Talked about verbal logic questions like all these....ehm....if so so is so so... then so so is so so (hope u get). Then said the quantitative was very fundamental...all these common entrance quantitative aptitude...things that the thermodynamic and calculus calculations may have made kinda faint in our memory. Mentioned the road signs also. what else. Generally, both spoke with an optimistic air. I hope this helps everyone somehow. Wish u guys the best. 4 Likes |

Just wanna say a big thank you to the veterans and greats of this thread...wherever they are now. You guys have left a legacy...SEFAGO,cezeozue,superbrain,etc. Thank you so much. If you guys ever read this thread again...please do let us know whats happening to you so we can continue to be motivated. This chat is dying...sorry, died, cos only inquirers were commenting....without any solid responses, like those of 2009, 2010. But, your trails continue to lead. God bless yall |

I have read all the comments on this thread. Its a pity how people make light of death when in the end we all will face it. I was there. I saw the accident happen. That peace bus was a few vehicles ahead of ours. It was no fault of the peace bus. The truck lost a wheel and the truck came towards our lane. Cud av been any vehicle. That bus was simply unlucky. It cud av been my bus. Its a sight I cannt get outta my head. I don't wish it for anyone. May their souls rest in peace, but really, wat prayers can be offered for a departed soul? The real question is where are those passenngers now and where r u going when its time to leave this world? Stop and ponder on these things. |
