I wasn't going to bring it here - I'm shy...:-)..but I've been seeing the report on other blogs and reading comments from some of you saying I write about others but don't want to write about myself. Lol

So here goes. Yes I built a home for my parents, as a betterpikinthingz..:-). It's a five bedroom duplex in our hometown of Nkwerre in Imo state. The house was built in 7 months...imagine! My dad wanted the house ready for Christmas. He returned this weekend after four months in the village supervising the house and showed us a pic of how far they've gone. (Pic above). He came home to spend Christmas with us while the builders put a gate round the house. (That's my dad on the balcony).

Meanwhile, I told my dad, now that I've built you a house, can I buy my Range Rover now? He said not yet, you still have to get married first! Lol. *sigh*. Oh well...Another pic after the cut...

When I told you guys thanks for an amazing year, you now understand what I'm talking about? LIB is currently my only source of income and thanks to you guys, it's more than enough. May God bless you all, give you your hearts' desires, and give you more than enough to help you, your family and the world. Kisses - Linda Ikeji

andyibu3:

More like google is determined to play God by getting everyone's personal information. There's always a catch!. It's "free internet" in exchange for your personal information which they will use as they please. Very few Africans have access to the internet, therefore there's a large portion of the population who still have most of their personal life offline where it's safe and that's just not acceptable as far as google is concerned; it's an untapped data mine. So they will force everyone to use their services by providing us with the mediocre "free internet". All i'm saying is that we teach our not-so-tech-savvy friends and family members (the most likely users of this new freebie) to be careful what information they share with ALMIGHTY GOOGLE.

Well Google and Airtel are not Charity Organizations...every promo has a catch. I think d main aim is to entice more Africans online and this means more business 4 dem. Every business has a way of promoting their service. I think its a win -win 4 all parties. We need more AFRICANS online!!!

Phones / Airtel And Google Give Nigerians Free Internet Access by PNN: 9:21pm On Dec 19, 2013
Leading telecommunications service provider, Airtel Nigeria and Google today launched a unique Internet service tagged Free Zone powered by Google.

This service allows customers to access mobile web search and other feature-phone-friendly versions of Gmail and Google+ without getting billed. The first page of any website linked from the search results is also provided at no charges.

Free Zone aims to put the web in the hands of more people. First time Internet users who haven't purchased data bundles often find basic services like email, mobile web browsing and social applications to be very expensive. With Free Zone, phone users can take advantage of the web to grow their businesses or keep in touch with friends and family without the fear of unknown data costs and also make more informed choices about their next data device.

To enjoy the array of free Internet mobile services on Free Zone, customers are to text "Free Zone" to 881 or go to http://g.co/freezone from their phone browser.

Juliet Ehimuan, Country Manager, Google Nigeria, said: "We are excited to be working with Airtel to introduce Free Zone powered by Google to Nigeria. We believe in the power of the Internet to create better opportunities, and working with Airtel on this makes it possible for anyone with a phone to get Internet services at little or no cost.

Just like our other access projects, this gives people easier access to information in a way that benefits not just themselves, but their businesses, and by extension Nigeria's economy."

Deepak Srivastava, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director, Airtel Nigeria, stated: "Breaking down the barriers to Internet adoption is critical for Nigeria to keep up with the rest of world in terms of social and economic development. It is through key initiatives like these that these barriers can be reduced.

"We are, therefore, really proud to bring this spectacular innovation to Nigerians especially our customers who will now have seamless access to Google Search, Gmail and Google+ by simply using Airtel SIM card on any data enabled handset free of charge. This is indeed another good reason to remain an Airtel customer or to joint Airtel if you are not yet a customer."

Airtel customers who access Free Zone will enjoy unlimited access to Gmail; share photos and messages with circles of family, friends and associates as well as follow updates on the things they are passionate about - from football to photography, music to news and follow people they're interested in via Google+.

Also, customers will be able to search the entire Internet and access the first page of websites from the results for free using Google Search.

When Airtel customers leave the Free Zone to navigate deeper into a website or download an attachment they are informed about the data charges and given the option to purchase an appropriate data package.

The service is available immediately to all new and existing Airtel customers from their mobile phones. Customers without a Google account can sign up for free.

Business / If She Could,You Can!How Laetitia Mukungu Started Her Own Farming Business At 14 by PNN: 9:19pm On Dec 18, 2013
It is safe to say that the majority of teenagers don’t spend much time figuring out how to scale a business or mulling over ideas to uplift their communities.

However, Laetitia Mukungu is not your average 17-year-old. At the age of 14, her passion for agriculture and education drove her to start the Women’s Rabbit Association in the remote village of Bukura in Kenya.

Mukungu launched the rabbit breeding project to support local women in the village. Each of the women who work on the rabbit farm receive a small salary and free farming inputs such as seeds. The project also supports their children’s education with school uniforms and stationery.

To get the project off the ground, she convinced a local school to invest KSh. 40,000 (US$460) to help purchase the first set of rabbits.

According to Mukungu there is a growing demand for rabbit meat in Kenya, especially from hotels and restaurants in Nairobi. Kenya’s capital is currently experiencing significant growth in the hospitality industry, fuelled by a rising local middle class and strong foreign investor interest. Rabbit is generally considered to be a healthy source of protein that has lower levels of cholesterol than many other meats.

Rabbits have a short gestation period of a month and can produce dozens of kittens a year. Mukungu says rabbits are also relatively cheap to raise due to the fact that they eat grass which is readily available in the village.

Another benefit is that almost every part of the rabbit has value. “In addition to the meat, the fur can be used to make winter clothing, the manure as fertiliser, and the rabbits’ urine can be used as an organic pesticide. So I thought rabbits are a better animal to rear as opposed to chickens or cows, like most of the people in my village do.”

Growing the business

Last year Mukungu was one of the 12 finalists in the Anzisha Prize, a youth entrepreneurship competition. The prize opened a lot of doors for her and she has since been invited to speak at a number of international conferences. “It had granted me a bit of media attention, and it has enabled me to get funding for my project.”

Mukungu is currently a final year student at the African Leadership Academy in South Africa. While she is away two managers and her mother are looking after the rabbit farm. She says the women also have an interest in keeping the project afloat. “They will do everything to ensure that it keeps running, because if it goes down they will be the ones affected. So I make them part of the project.”

Mukungu is actively looking at expanding her business. She says local producers cannot keep up with the demand for rabbit meat.

To boost production, Mukungu is planning to offer the women three months of training, allowing them to start their own micro rabbit farms. They would be expected to sell their animals back to the Women’s Rabbit Association. This will not only allow Mukungu to increase her own profits, but also further empower the women. Future plans could also include setting up an abattoir.

Next year Mukungu expects to start her tertiary education. “I really have a passion for agriculture, and would love to study agricultural engineering. I have already applied and hope to get into the EARTH University in Costa Rica – one of the best agricultural universities in world. My plan is to study there and come back to Africa,” says Mukungu.

The Anzisha Prize is the premier award for African entrepreneurs aged 15-22 who have developed and implemented innovative businesses or solutions that have a positive impact on their communities. Follow the Anzisha Prize on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.
