Politics / Re: You Must Reconvene National Assembly Now – APC Tells PDP, Saraki by positivethought: 11:23am On Aug 18, 2018
Lekzyloaded:

The ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) has asked the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to urgently reconvene the National Assembly to enable the passage of the Electoral Amendment Act Bill.

The APC in a statement released by its acting national publicity secretary, Yekini Nabena, on Friday, August 17, said the Electoral Amendment Bill is alive and waiting assent.

Nabena also alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party is hiding under the “yet to be signed bill” to draw attention away from the treasonable actions of the Senate President for refusing to reconvene the National Assembly.

He said: “The Electoral Amendment Bill passed by the National Assembly is alive and awaiting assent. However, assent to Bills in all democratic governments reflects the prudence and discretion of the president in balancing the powers of key constitutional bodies and understanding the concerns of the executive.”

“While we strongly condemn the abuse of office by the Senate President backed by his PDP cohorts in sabotaging the executive, specifically INEC, all well-meaning Nigerians have a duty to speak up and ensure that the National Assembly performs its constitutional role and not serve an individual’s personal interest and sinister ends of the opposition PDP.

We call on all Nigerians, civil society and indeed the international community to resist the ongoing travesty and legislative rascality being perpetuated by the Senate President and the PDP.

The sanctity of our electoral system is being threatened by this orchestrated sabotage and deliberate attempt to weaken INEC as we prepare for General Elections in 2019. The National Assembly must be convened immediately,” Nasbena said.

The APC’s national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, has called on lawmakers of the ruling party to do all within their powers to ensure that the National Assembly reconvenes.

This call came after Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara adjourned plenary in July shortly after the police laid a siege to the residences of the nation’s number three citizen and Ike Ekweremadu, his deputy.

Oshiomhole, however, criticised the adjournment, adding that it is slowing down the progress of the current administration.

The president of Nigeria has no powers to restructure Nigeria. So anyone who thinks Atiku can restructure Nigeria, if elected, is a fool

The best the President of Nigeria can do is to support restructuring but ultimately, only the national assembly can restructure Nigeria
Restructuring involves lot os steps some not requiring constitutional amendments just executive orders,Atkku outline these n many more in an exhausive interview he granted few days ago which is online, one thing i apreciate about Atiku is his bluntness n nil pretense about issues n how he intend fixing them,to an extent you are right but Atiku understands that n lots more too well,he sure deserves a chance.

You are talking trash my dear. APC will wait. Whenever saraki reopens he will be removed. A minority party can never lead a majority party. If saraki is sure he can't be removed then he should reconvene. Besides there are pressing national matters, why must the whole country be sacrificed for sarakis 's ambition?? Why must saraki be senate president Its a democracy. He should test his popularity by votes, that's how democracy works. Not locking the house when there are serious national issues to do. You are the one supporting a dangerous precedent here
will your party the Apc be truly willing to allow for sincere test of votes without employing dirty measures outside the books, when tambuwal defected to the Apc n retained the speakership we didn't see this kind threats n dirty measures so there is a precedence that a minority party can rule the majority n i'm not supporting anything bad, don't think you people can bully everybody to submission.

We are saying the same thing. If u are sure APC doesn't have the numbers then let saraki reconvene and let's test it. What u are unaware of is that the Senate rules says 2/3 majority of members present. Not 2/3 majority of the entire house. There will never be a time wen all members are present as many of them are on different assignments nationwide. So get schooled and stop commenting in ignorance.
And the senate rules says only the the head of the senate can reopen it,but if you think you people are powerful n saraki is afraid you go and use your power to reopen the senate n impeach saraki, this is the same way Apc keep setting bad and dangerous pilitical precedence n when it turns arround to hunt them they begin to make lot of noise,n you just think deeply about the national effect of what you are supporting if such practise is to be replicated in various states!.

Politics / Re: What’s’ The Desperation For? Nigerians React To Atiku’s ‘i’ll Do Just One Term’ by positivethought: 5:10pm On Aug 13, 2018
Griezwoman:
It is no longer news that former vice president Atiku Abubakar has declared his intention to run for your come 2019, however he made a rare promise today.

Atiku says he would only stay for one term, should Nigerians vote him in 2019 as president. Atiku, who has earlier promised to dedicate a huge part of yearly allocations to education made it clear, he wouldn’t be like president Muhammadu Buhari who promised to do just one term but now clamouring for a second term.

In his words:

“If I am elected as the President in 2019, I give an undertaking that I would only do one term. Having said that let me remind Nigerians that Buhari also gave such an undertaking in 2011, but he is not living up to it today. My own case will be different. I am prepared to sign an undertaking to do only one term.”

It doesn’t look like, Atiku’s vow hit home where it should with some Nigerians, judging by their reactions.
They berated the former VP’s desperation to become president at all cost, some stated that Nigeria can do well without recycled politicians.

From Zenithnaija.com

There is nothing wrong with Atiku's pronouncement,he knows the south are not going to be tolerant for too long,he is bold n sincere enough to be categorical about his desire unlike others who make fake promises they don't intend to keep,Atiku has clearly outline what he intend to do for the country n how exactly he will go about it,that the epitome of competence, experience, capacity n believe.no one is contradicting the great ideas if Atiku rather its just hatred induced by propaganda, sentiments apart Atiku is tge man we need now, buhari boasted much without any backing facts or precedence just pure propaganda, its no wonder that we are in shambles today.Atikulation 2019!!!.

Prince Tony Momoh, a former Minister of Information has said it will be impossible for Senate President, Bukola Saraki who is in a minority party to preside over the Senate which has All Progressives Congress ( APC) in majority.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent on Thursday, Momoh one of the National Leaders of the APC said the APC senators who are in majority will not fold their hands during plenary and watch while Saraki who is now a member of the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) presides over them.

“He can resign or be thrown out. He can resign if he says i am no longer on the ticket of the party. But the party can go to court and if the court decides that there is no faction in APC, then he can lose his seat.
Having lost his seat, then he can no longer be the Senate President because only a Senator can occupy the position”.

The only way APC can remove Saraki is by going to court or mobilise two thirds of the members to remove him . They can’t force him out”.
” I don’t know how Saraki can preside over a Senate where he is in the Minority and I don’t think the APC Senators who are in the majority will just sit down there and watch while somebody who is in the minority presides over their affairs”.
” I only hope he is not inviting trouble because of greed” he said.

vululadilolo:
He raped you to coerce you into marrying him? He violated your body to achieve his "goal" of "keeping" you for himself? Very sick, manipulative and pervert way of thinking!

I would not advise you to marry someone who doesn't respect your boundaries and can commit such a vile act (rape). I would however advise you to seek therapy/counselling/help for what he did to you. Did you report him to the authorities?

If he is raping you now, how do you think he is going to behave when you are going to be married to him? Marital rape exists in case you don't know.
His behaviour ( the rape) shows that he seems to be ready to do anything ( even the worst) to achieve what he wants and doesn't value his partner's opinions/beliefs or feelings. Do you really want to be married to someone like that?

There are ton of people who were not virgins when they got married and are happy in their marriage. Being a virgin (or not) does not guarantee a "good" marriage. Your husband should be interested in you as a person and not just your hymen. You should also bring more than "just" your body in your marriage.

You need to reshape your mind: Your "pride" should be in who you are as woman and not what you can "offer" in bed( Virginity). Your "value" as a person did not/should diminish because of the rape( or even if you had sex voluntarily). That's why I said seek therapy or talk about it to someone you trust.

Don't feel guilty for what happened or not being a "virgin" (easier said than done). Stay strong and good luck in whatever you decide to do!
You are shouting rape rape!,have you heard the from the man?.

Politics / Re: Apc Members Reject Akpabio As Political Leader by positivethought: 1:52pm On Aug 11, 2018
Emelcee:
Members of the All Progressives Congress in Akwa Ibom state have frowned at the attempt by the national leaders of the party to crown former senate minority leader, senator Godswill Akpabio, as the state leader of the party.

Prince Emmanuel Sam, a stalwart of the APC, on Thursday, said, they can not accept Akpabio as their leader.

"We can not be led by a man who was brutal to us. We have not forgotten that his brutality costs the lives of some members of the defunct ACN who dissolved into what is called APC today. He can never lead us. We will resist it".

Sam was among members of the party who reacted to Akpabio's repeated declaration of himself as leader of the party and his wife, Ekaette Unoma, as "mother of APC" in Akwa Ibom state during his reception rally in Ikot Ekpene.
Akpabio was officially received into the APC by the National leader of the party, Alhaji Ahmed Bola Tinubu, and the party's national chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, on Wednesday 8th August.

The former Governor repeatedly used the phrase, "under my leadership in the party" in a remark he made extemporaneously to confirm his acceptance of membership of the party.

Members of the party believe that Akpabio's repeated announcement of himself as leader of the party cowed the national chairman of the party into calling Akpabio the leader of the party without a second thought.

Also, Obong Mike Edem, a chieftain of the APC from Itu said right thinking persons in the party can not indulge Akpabio to superintend over them.

He explained that it will be a broad self contradiction for Akpabio who left the PDP because a new entrant was rewarded over those who stood by the PDP in her trying times, to want to be rewarded over those who laboured and built the APC over the years.

"He can not be our leader. He will be contradicting himself, because he can not reject a skewed reward system which favours newcomers in his former party, yet wants to be rewarded in APC through similar skewed arrangement".

Edem insisted that Akpabio should not be given preference over senator Nelson Effiong, another APC senator from the state who joined the APC earlier or the 2015 governorship candidate of the state who have been around longer than Akpabio.

"Currently, Akpabio does not have any leadership position which makes him superior to the other senator. When he resigned his position as senate minority leader, he became but an ordinary senator. There are other people in the party who have been senators before, who are more knowledgeable in party leadership and administration than Akpabio".

The party stalwart said reasonable members of the party will not work with Akpabio.

"We will not work with Akpabio. He persecuted us out of the PDP. When some of us left, Akpabio led the PDP to doom. Now, PDP is no more, he is coming to destroy the APC in the pretext of coming to build".

He insisted that the APC will fail just as her main opposition, the PDP,  if the party leadership takes to celebrating and rewarding newcomers over old members who have kept faith with the party over the years.

Also, a group, Akwa Ibom Progressives Watch says the APC will be more disunited under Akpabio if he is made leader of the party in the state as rumoured.

The group at a press conference addressed by her chairman, Mr. Innocent Sylvanus, on Thursday, warned that many people who left the PDP to the APC because of Akpabio's impunity can not work again with Akpabio.

"It will be a disaster to allow Akpabio lead the party. We want the national leader and chairman of the party to know this".

"We left PDP because of the kind of impunity Akpabio dished out to us. There is no guarantee that he has changed, so he will bring on the same kind of impunity he used which killed his former party", Sylvanus added.

The group called on President Muhammadu Buhari to instruct the national chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, to convene the state caucus of the party for the purpose of choosing a state leader that will be accepted by all members.

It was gathered that very senior members of the APC in Akwa Ibom state are not happy over the seeming preference the national leadership of the party attempts to accord senator Godswill Akpabio.

'It is unnecessary. It will split the party. He can not lead us', a caucus member of the party in the state said on Wednesday.

Many members of the APC were killed in Ikot Ekpene in 2011 during a gubernatorial campaign. It is believed that the killings were masterminded by supporters of the PDP. No one has been charged for the killings.

Akpabio's administration caused the arrest and detention of the 2011 governorship candidate of the party, senator John Udoedehe, over trump up charge of arson.

Senator Akpabio during his reception on Wednesday pleaded for forgiveness from those he offended who are already in the party.

stane007:
An APC Candidate representing Toro federal constituency in the House of Representatives, Honourable Lawal Yahaya-Gumau, has announced that if elected into the Senate, the Nigerian constitution will be amended to make Muhammadu Buhari President for life.

The APC Candidate who alluded to the fact that former president, Olusegun Obasanjo was unable to amend the Constitution for a third term because he lacked sincerity, stated that making Buhari a President for life is the only mandate he will be going to the senate with.

Speaking at the closing of his campaign in Bauchi on Thursday, he said;

“I, Lawal-Yahaya Gumau, want you to know that the mandate that will be given to me on Saturday is to go and protect Buhari’s interest in the Senate. This is the only mandate that I will be going to the Senate with, having fulfilled every other mandate to the best of my ability while in the House of Representatives for eight years.

By God’s grace, we will amend Nigeria’s Constitution to allow Buhari to be President for the remaining years of his life. He will only cease to be President when God takes his life.

“Obasanjo tried all his best for the constitution to be amended to allow him go for a third term, but God didn’t approve of it because of its lack of sincerity. What is now needed in Nigeria is to protect Buhari’s interest and that is what we will do.”

Also speaking at the campaign, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum and Governor of Zamfara State, Abdul’aziz Yari who disclosed that they were in the state on the mandate of the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, noted that it would be shameful for a candidate endorsed by Buhari to lose the election.

“Our message is simple; the acting President is seriously worried about what is going on in Bauchi State and he told us to tell you that with all the love being shown to Bauchi State by the President, it will be a shameful and disgraceful thing for us in the north for President Buhari to raise the hand of someone and the person loses that election" he said.

[quote author=ridwanomooba post=70122619]Tinubu's Claim of Impeachment Attempt on Buhari, a Fabrication, says Senator

The Senator representing Bauchi Central and chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, Isah Hamma Misau, has debunked the claim made in Uyo yesterday by former Governor of Lagos State, Ahmed Bola Tinubu that the National Assembly was planning to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari.

Misau, in a statement, urged Nigerians to disregard such empty talk by the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, describing it as "a mere partisan rethoric aimed at catching the attention of the crowd" at the rally planned for the declaration of Senator Godswill Akpabio into the party.

"I am surprised that a politician of Tinubu's caliber will be playing politics with a serious issue like the impeachment of the President of the country just because he wanted to catch the attention of a crowd. Politicians at his level should not be engaging in unnecessary saber-rattling and empty speculation.

"We, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Senate, have no plan to impeach President Muhammadu Buhari. There is no need for that process and we are not contemplating it. Our focus right now is to defend democracy and its institutions, fight for enthronement of rule of law, independence of the legislature and the judiciary and ensuring good governance.

"If Tinubu has any concrete, reliable and verifiable evidence to the contrary, he should come forward and prove it. A man like him should not be getting carried away by the crowd and making claims that have no basis.

"We therefore urge all Nigerians and members of the international community to ignore that claim. There is no basis for anybody to make such claim. It is a mere fabrication and a stunt pulled to please the partisan crowd to which it was uttered", Misau stated.

Prof. Itse Sagay (SAN), Chairman of the Presidential Advisory Committee Against Corruption (PACAC) on Tuesday said he was shocked to hear that Lawal Daura, the sacked Director- General of the Department of State Service (DSS) acted on his own by barricading the National Assembly without authorisation from the Presidency.

Sagay, who said Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo had no choice than to fire the ex-DSS boss, added that there was no way the government could defend or justify Daura’s actions since it didn’t order him to carry out the invasion.

Speaking in a chat with Daily Independent, he said: “When I started hearing about the invasion, I was wondering whether the sacked DSS boss has authority to do that because I couldn’t imagine him doing that without being authorised by the presidency.

“Later, when it emerged that he was doing it without authority, I was aghast and very shocked. So, it is a very major step. It is not that it cannot be done but there are circumstances where it may become necessary but if that is to be done, such order must come from the Presidency, not the man doing it on his own because we are talking of one arm of government.

“So, I was very shocked and honestly, given the gravity of what has happened, the Acting President had no choice than sacking him because it can bring down the name of the government.

one thing i know for sure like Amachree a former director of sss said on channels is that, there is absolutely no way the DG DSS will just decide to act on his own without authorisation, worst of all daura buharis relative,Timi frank revealed he was reliably informed that Apc chair oshiomole promised buhari to get rid of saraki in ten days with neccesary cooperation,is it instructive that buhari left for ten days vacation n this things are happening, lawsn Daura himself is reported to have clarified that he was not arrested but invited to the villa for interrogation on the directives of oshiomole throught the chief of staff to the president!,i'm sure nigerians will be shocked when daura reveals his side of the story but that is if he will be allowed at all by Apc.we have certainly not seen or heard of the end of this drama, but buhari/Apc are not innocent in the midst of all the shame the country just experienced.

Olusegun Obasanjo.

PDP Presidential aspirant the Former Governor of Jigawa State, Dr Sule Lamido CON, and members of his national campaign council today met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in his Olusegun Obasanjo national library Abeokuta, Ogun State over his 2019 presidential ambition.

In a terse statement by Mansur Ahmed, the social media aide to Lamido, said: “the meeting was part of the consultation with relevant stakeholders, elders, party officials and key political actors in Nigeria across the length and breadth of this Nation"

I get the feelings that the major reason why obasanjo does not want Atiku to get the presidency is that obasanjo knows too well Atiku is about the only politician in nigeria today that he can't dictate to,control or mess around with,a situation obadanjo dreads so much.i admire sule lamido but its time the NE also get the presidency,Atiku is the right man for the job.
