Concerning the soon to be actualised oil producing status the state is expecting, i think the Obiano gov't (and subsequent gov'ts) should do things a bit diffrent from the norm found in other oil producing states. What i'm suggesting is for about 90% of proceeds accruing to the state from these wells to be placed in a dedicated account for investment/savings! These funds should not be touched for about two or three years, and should be held in US dollars to shield it from the vagaries in the exchange rate of the naira. 50% of this amount can be withdrawn at the agreed time (after say two or three years) and used for targeted projects like for instance: power plant; intra-state railway network; health sector; education sector; or road infrastructure. The remaining 50% will not be touched but be held as a type of sovereign wealth fund for the state for future generations of Anambrans. The manager of these funds will ensure they are partly saved and partly invested in blue-chip coys on the international stock markets of New York and London! The 10% from the initial amount can be withdrawn every year and used for developing the host communities. These funds would be jointly managed by the state ministries of finance, local gov't/rural development and the host communities concerned. 10 Likes 1 Share |

PROUDIGBO: The oil by law belongs to the federal government and all the state can receive as a producer is derivation. At 10,000 bpd derivation will not be more than 7 billion naira per year a lot less than FAAC allocation of 40 billion plus a year which is Anambras slice of Nigerias far bigger 2m barrels per day The focus on oil is therefore misguided. The state needs to create a conducive investment environment for industries and services not 10x10 shops all over the place and cities without roads or good draijage. The VAT Hero brewery alone generates a year is well over 2 billion naira. We need 200 such large businesses. Innoson is trying as is Juhel, Tonimas, Chicason and Cutix . We need to manufacture lots of building materials, electrical components, auto parts. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Your input is useless, worthless and incoherent. Anambra is doing very well in all sectors. Stop thinking you know anything, because you are just an empty frustrated hopeless fellow. [s] mktinsight:[/s] 2 Likes |

From this aerial photo, it is clear that ABS and the Kenneth Dike Library are occupying so much land that they are not using or don't even need. The state government can divide the land in two and find something to build on it as that is a prime location. |

mktinsight: Don't know why you mentioned that wicked, parasitic and unfair Fulani/one-Nigeria law! Who asked you? My statement read in part: '....proceeds accruing to the state from these wells....', so how do you misconstrue that to mean me impying that Anambra will have ownership of the wells? You came across in your post as quite negative and uninspiring! Anyone reading my post with an open mind will see i wasn't rying to make oyel the focus of the states economy as you posit. Rather, i was saying proceeds from the oil wells accruing to the state should be saved and not spent immediately as is the norm with other oil producing states in the country. I'm quite aware that the derivation the state will make wouldn't be much in comparison to states like say Akwa-Ibom and Rivers, and this was why i suggested the money should be saved and when a bulk sum has accumulated, after say three years, it can then be used to support the financing of big ticket initiatives and economic enablers in the areas earlier mentioned. The money may not be much, but it could be part of a much larger pool of development funds...a pool that could also tap into diaspora remittances. Nigeria receives about $20 billion every year from diaspora remittances, and a large chunk would come from Anambra diaspora. Hopefully, the next Governor of the state can find a way to convince Anambrans to contribute part of the money they remit to some sort of infrastructure fund with a target of rising at least $500 million a year for a stipulated period of time. This is the departure from the norm and thinking outside the box i was talking about....not just waiting for paltry federal allocation and IGR every month! 8 Likes |

PROUDIGBO: You talk out of ignorance. Derivation is 13% and Anambra produces less than 0.5% of the oil produced in your so called Fulani One Nigeria while enjoying over 2% of the oil revenue shared from the country. As for the idea of saving for big ticket items. Obi saved and what happened to it? You say diaspora should contribute to infrastructure fund? First let ANSG tell us what they did with the over 800 billion naira since 2010 they received especially when half was allocated to capital expenditure. Have you been to Awka or Onitsha or Nnewi recently? Where are the roads? Go and visit some of the hospitals ANSG runs you will be disgusted. These animals in government house are only after their pocket. 1 Like

post=104899165: Look at the congestion on the underpass of the flyover with trailers while the flyover has 2 or 3 vehicles. Very bad planning and design. The empty land at ABS can still serve purpose. ANSG should relocate all those scattered buildings it has all over awka like ministry of lands, asudeb, ministry of works to this axis. For Kenneth Dike, they should build an arts gallery and sculpture garden in the compound. Let people go there to see art and buy original artwork and sculptures (not copies). 3 Likes |

post=104894503: Nice footage. This is practically the only green space left in awka central. Igwebuike school opp Emmaus House has done very little with its huge expanse of land. I hear they have only three toilets to serve over 500 students. No sports field, no well equipped lab. 1 Like |

Mechionu nsi, you are the one actually talking out of ignorance. No one needs your lies and propaganda. Everyone has finally seen you for who you are- demonic night owl. Onitsha Awka, Nnewi and almost all parts of Anambra have well paved roads. Infact Anambra has the overall best road networks in the region. Hospitals in Anambra are equally well built and properly equipped. Anambra generally has the best hospitals in the region. You are actually the animal, not the people you accuse.
