go to yo:utube..

In search bar type the words denilson skills..

I don't need YouTube to know about Denilson. I recently pointed out that I believe the Brazilian team of the early 2000 were the best and most gifted. I listed some of my favorite players in that team which include

Kaka, Adriano, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo, Robinho, Ze Roberto and Denilson.

Denilson played for Real Betis with Finidi George and I got to watch him well.

However, Finidi George openly criticised the tactical acumen of Denilson and pointed how poor his timing was.

What I am saying that in today's game, Denilson will need a lot of work despite his flair and would get nullified with tactical defending.

Jordan is the monster machine of our basketball team he literally carried the team on his back during the Olympics wish we had two of him in that team we would have made it far as we kept on loosing games in the 4th quarter after Jordan is exhausted because he always push him self to the limit and get tired by 3rd quarter I remember when he did a 3 pointer consistently in a match at the Olympics even the commentators where wowed and kept on saying the ball should be passed to him for another 3 wink

I totally agree with you.
His doctors have not declared him fit and so he should be allowed to rest.
He is just saying so because of the aggressive and determined personality he has.
It is Rohr that was making Osimhen look soo indispensable.
He never integrated Awoniyi, dessers, Sadiq Umar etc into the team.
He kept using Onuachu, Musa, etc and made himself to beleif there is no alternative to Osimhen.
Osimhen should relax. the world is not going to end if he does not show up at Afcon.
If i was Eguavon i will replace him with somebody else immediately.
I wont even ask about any health.
He will be useful during our world cup qualifiers

I still think Eguavoen should meet personally with Osimhen and explain to him why he should skip the AFCON. Let him know he is part of the pillars of the team but his complete recovery is more important than playing at the AFCON.

Napoli also paid top dollars for his services and he also owes them to be in good condition for the rest of the season.

My verdict is that Eguavoen should not go with Osimhen. That injury was severe and he is wearing a mask, which means there is still some risk involved.

robinho wasn't in the team of early 2000 at least not until 2003...

In today's game Denilson will never get nullified, Denilson's and most players with his type of playing pattern will destroy today's team same way Messi destroyed teams in his prime...

Players like Denilson drag opposition players out of position and create space for the striker or any player in the box or outside the box to take tap-ins or shoot... In the past midfielders covered for defenders that were dragged out of position unlike todays teams... there's so much space in defensive side of football in 2021 than in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Messi will find it difficult today gumming the ball and skinning players. Today's game has seen most top teams adopt to the modern game. So it is not easy as it was when Messi was in his prime.

Same with Denilson.

A well coordinated press will nullify any top player. It is far harder today to just skip past players. That is why people feel today skills is dying. The truth is that defending is far better now.

Oshimen needs to watch players like Benzema, Lewandowski and Kane to learn shooting techniques. For me, Aribo is our most technical player. Shooting, ball control, touches, body movements etc. However, I think he needs to improve on his passing!

Osimhen does not need to watch Benzema, Lewandowski and Kane to learn shooting techniques..

Osimhen is playing for Napoli, while 2 of the players you mentioned are playing for 2 of the best teams in the world with very good midfielders and chance creators, If Kane was playing for Man City he would score more goals than he does at Tottenham...

same goes for Osimhen, If Osimhen was playing for Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Man City he would score more goals than he does at Napoli.... but it also depends on how the coach plays him..

Its the same reason Oshoala scores more for Barcelona than Super Falcons even though she misses opportunities when playing for Nigeria..

Lukaku is also playing for a world class team but his not scoring regularly... does that mean he should also watch Benzema, Lewandowski and Kane to learn shooting techniques

Osimhen has scored more goals than Kane this season so its Kane that should learn from Osimhen.....

That is why Nigeria play our own brand of football over the years. I pointed out once about how Al Ahly of Egypt camped in Spain while 3SC were on strike for over a month. Yet when they met, 3SC matched Al Ahly in play. Even took the lead at some point. So as football changes, we will make adaptations but we have a way we play with pace and intensity that helps cover our lapses.

Do you think Onazi and Ambrose were more trained with equipments than the French team? But, we used grit and intensity to match them.

You think we were technically better than Brazil and Argentina in Atlanta? No, we matched them with grit and intensity.

Eguavoen is pointing towards that intensity and making us understand we need a degree of intelligence to make the most from it.
One thing though our pace of football needs to be cranked up. It's too casual. Like you said, grit and intensity. This is the reason why most people don't find our NT football exciting. Because having watched fast paced European football all season, the slow pace football SE plays puts them off. We must take our pace notches high.

Technique is essentially the basics of football from your first touch to your weight of pass to your angle of passes to your distribution of body weight, it seems some people are confusing skill with technique

That is just one small aspect. I have my own term of technique.

Technique is what you can do with the ball. Is as simple as that. From passing to tricks. Is all technique.

Dribbling skills is technique too.
In other words no difference?

Technique is not just ability with ball, where do you put decision making, composure? Technique is simple, how well do you do the basics of football and like every other thing some players have good technique some have average or poor technique
Technique should be how you handle something. For me composure, decision, positioning making all go into style of play.

No they don't skip past players with ease. They do it with a degree of difficulty. Watch Bernardo Silva, he relies a lot on releasing the ball early. They can make occassional skips but they do not dwell on the ball. The game today is too fast paced to dwell on the ball.

Positioning is intelligence. You do that with your head. You know where space is with your head. You move there with your head.

That is not technique. Technique is with the ball. When you get the ball and what you do with it.

I will like to clear something. The players today are equally as gifted or maybe even more than the guys in the past. In recent years we have seen masters of footworks in the likes of Thiago Alcantara and Isco. We have seen def speed and skills in the likes of Mbappe, and Salah.

We have seen some of the craziest technique of touch in likes of Foden and Mahrez. I doubt Bergkamp is better on the ball than Mahrez.

The thing was that defending in the past was lazy. The work rate was poor. So the likes of Okocha, Laudrup, Ronaldinho, Denilson, Bergkamp and co could play with the ball and everybody watches.

Today, if those guys like Zidane were playing, they will not have such luxury. Teams press with full force. They give little time to think. You have to work with a formula to guide your thinking. Playing out of pattern means losing the ball. Every trick should have a purpose, any mistake, you put your team under pressure.

You might praise the guys of the past for their artistry but the truth is that, they will choke in the current system.

AGREED without question or hesitation.

The question is, have our coaches and football administrators understood the way football has moved on and evolved.

This is why l was concerned when I read here ,the purported comments of Eguavon. Hope he is not stuck in the past.

Composure, decision making all make up an individual's styles of play but styles of play are further divided into two simple and complex technique deals with the simple and basic aspects of football like trapping, controlling, passing and kicking while skill deals with the complex aspects of play like rabona and rainbow flicks

(note: Simple here does not mean easy just not multi- layered)

If you notice I did not diss the players of this era. What I find atrocious is the mentality as espoused by komekn that all that colorful stuff is not necessary in today's football . Yet some of the most colorful players the game has ever known are the ones we fondly remember because they were highly effective. Me, I just hate drab football.

You completely MISUNDERSTAND my position.

I Absolutely love skill, dribbling, techniques, individual brilliance, but there must be END PRODUCT.

I watched Arsenal's young players give Leeds, West Ham, Southampton and Sunderland ( EFL Cup) a complete football lesson.

I watched Pepe in a masterclass at Sunderland all that aimless dribbling he use to fo stopped for end product. Thats why small boys have taken his position

The EPL is super fast and it merges technicality with speed and physicality for dominance.

My worry is the Nigerian football administrators are not having a strategic plan to take our football foreward.

What we are seeing in England is years of long term planning and recognition that KICK and RUSH will not take them anywhere.

There was a time when the African player was better at dribbling and skills.Thats no longer the case , the new breed of English players have merged technical ability, football intelligence and cohesive team discipline to gain the advantage plus ➕ the skills, dribbling, style and Effizzee.

Funny many of them are Nigerian origin boys.

If dribbling is all you see in Ejuke's game, then maybe you don't know the player that i am talking about, or you don't watch him.

Talking about technique, Aribo doesn't come close. Do you know that Iheanacho, Iwobi, should i add Nwalkali, and even Victor Osimhen have more technique in their game than your Aribo.

It is obvious some of us on this thread doesn't know what technique in football is.

It seems you have a different definition from everybody in here and possibly the world in general.

Because to talk about technicality and give these example, says you have different eyes from everybody else.

I believe the birds today fly better than the past but the defending is too good for you to notice it. How many wingers of the past are better than Hazard in taking on players. Watch the swarm of players around Hazard then. Today, it is even fiercer.

I disagree with players not being good at dribbling. There are loads today. Watch Joao Felix, watch Veratti. Watch Salah. These guys are crazy. However, it is wrong to dribble in tight spaces. You are losing the ball. Counter attacks are insane today. You just don't take thiat risk. It is suicidal.

Bring Ronaldinho today and he can not try it. Have you seen tricks from Vinicius? They are brilliant but you must limit it and abide by tactics to succeed.

Thank you

Mr. Komekn. This idea was gotten from the Brazilians of peles era. if you watch the brazilian team of 1970, the midfielder, wingers and attackers randomly interchanged positions. sometimes pele will play as a ten and the ten will move to the position of striker.
their attackers could play many positions.
Many of todays ideas of attacking football were gotten from Brazil and that is why Brazil will allways earn the respect of the world
as the masters of attacking football

I do not DISAGREE.

When the English FA looked at the over riding number of kick and rush carpenter footballers they were producing.

They decided complete revamp and regeneration of the entire training culture and strategy was essential.

That change started with the football academies.

New personal , etc Liverpool brought in the former assistant manager at Sao Paulo in Brazil to head up the U12 development. Because they had to start young can't teach an old dog new tricks and mentality.

The best academy in my opinion is Chelsea and Arsenal in the UK.

That's why the game has changed in England for English players they needed to compete with overwhelming number of overseas players that totally dominate the EPL.
