codemaniacs: I don't need YouTube to know about Denilson. I recently pointed out that I believe the Brazilian team of the early 2000 were the best and most gifted. I listed some of my favorite players in that team which include Kaka, Adriano, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Rivaldo, Robinho, Ze Roberto and Denilson. Denilson played for Real Betis with Finidi George and I got to watch him well. However, Finidi George openly criticised the tactical acumen of Denilson and pointed how poor his timing was. What I am saying that in today's game, Denilson will need a lot of work despite his flair and would get nullified with tactical defending. 1 Like |

BascoVanVeli:Jordan is the monster machine of our basketball team he literally carried the team on his back during the Olympics wish we had two of him in that team we would have made it far as we kept on loosing games in the 4th quarter after Jordan is exhausted because he always push him self to the limit and get tired by 3rd quarter I remember when he did a 3 pointer consistently in a match at the Olympics even the commentators where wowed and kept on saying the ball should be passed to him for another 3 ![]() 1 Like |

Philosopher1979: I still think Eguavoen should meet personally with Osimhen and explain to him why he should skip the AFCON. Let him know he is part of the pillars of the team but his complete recovery is more important than playing at the AFCON. Napoli also paid top dollars for his services and he also owes them to be in good condition for the rest of the season. My verdict is that Eguavoen should not go with Osimhen. That injury was severe and he is wearing a mask, which means there is still some risk involved. 2 Likes 1 Share |

TheGoodJoe: robinho wasn't in the team of early 2000 at least not until 2003... In today's game Denilson will never get nullified, Denilson's and most players with his type of playing pattern will destroy today's team same way Messi destroyed teams in his prime... Players like Denilson drag opposition players out of position and create space for the striker or any player in the box or outside the box to take tap-ins or shoot... In the past midfielders covered for defenders that were dragged out of position unlike todays teams... there's so much space in defensive side of football in 2021 than in the 1990s and early 2000s. |

codemaniacs: Messi will find it difficult today gumming the ball and skinning players. Today's game has seen most top teams adopt to the modern game. So it is not easy as it was when Messi was in his prime. Same with Denilson. |

codemaniacs: A well coordinated press will nullify any top player. It is far harder today to just skip past players. That is why people feel today skills is dying. The truth is that defending is far better now. |

fabyom: Osimhen does not need to watch Benzema, Lewandowski and Kane to learn shooting techniques.. Osimhen is playing for Napoli, while 2 of the players you mentioned are playing for 2 of the best teams in the world with very good midfielders and chance creators, If Kane was playing for Man City he would score more goals than he does at Tottenham... same goes for Osimhen, If Osimhen was playing for Real Madrid, Bayern Munich or Man City he would score more goals than he does at Napoli.... but it also depends on how the coach plays him.. Its the same reason Oshoala scores more for Barcelona than Super Falcons even though she misses opportunities when playing for Nigeria.. Lukaku is also playing for a world class team but his not scoring regularly... does that mean he should also watch Benzema, Lewandowski and Kane to learn shooting techniques ![]() ![]() Osimhen has scored more goals than Kane this season so its Kane that should learn from Osimhen..... |

TheGoodJoe:One thing though our pace of football needs to be cranked up. It's too casual. Like you said, grit and intensity. This is the reason why most people don't find our NT football exciting. Because having watched fast paced European football all season, the slow pace football SE plays puts them off. We must take our pace notches high. 1 Like 1 Share |

codemaniacs: No they don't skip past players with ease. They do it with a degree of difficulty. Watch Bernardo Silva, he relies a lot on releasing the ball early. They can make occassional skips but they do not dwell on the ball. The game today is too fast paced to dwell on the ball. |

codemaniacs: Where did you get 2002 world cup squad from? I typed that Robinho was a brilliant talent IN BRAZIL in 2002. In Brazil, the Brazilian league. Known among the Brazilian footballing community as an insane talent. Not 2002 squad. |

Mujtahida: Positioning is intelligence. You do that with your head. You know where space is with your head. You move there with your head. That is not technique. Technique is with the ball. When you get the ball and what you do with it. |

TheGoodJoe: AGREED without question or hesitation. The question is, have our coaches and football administrators understood the way football has moved on and evolved. ![]() ![]() This is why l was concerned when I read here ,the purported comments of Eguavon. Hope he is not stuck in the past. |

Mujtahida: Composure, decision making all make up an individual's styles of play but styles of play are further divided into two simple and complex technique deals with the simple and basic aspects of football like trapping, controlling, passing and kicking while skill deals with the complex aspects of play like rabona and rainbow flicks (note: Simple here does not mean easy just not multi- layered) |

Mujtahida: You completely MISUNDERSTAND my position. I Absolutely love skill, dribbling, techniques, individual brilliance, but there must be END PRODUCT. I watched Arsenal's young players give Leeds, West Ham, Southampton and Sunderland ( EFL Cup) a complete football lesson. I watched Pepe in a masterclass at Sunderland all that aimless dribbling he use to fo stopped for end product. Thats why small boys have taken his position The EPL is super fast and it merges technicality with speed and physicality for dominance. My worry is the Nigerian football administrators are not having a strategic plan to take our football foreward. What we are seeing in England is years of long term planning and recognition that KICK and RUSH will not take them anywhere. There was a time when the African player was better at dribbling and skills.Thats no longer the case , the new breed of English players have merged technical ability, football intelligence and cohesive team discipline to gain the advantage plus ➕ the skills, dribbling, style and Effizzee. Funny many of them are Nigerian origin boys. |

Philosopher1979: I do not DISAGREE. When the English FA looked at the over riding number of kick and rush carpenter footballers they were producing. They decided complete revamp and regeneration of the entire training culture and strategy was essential. That change started with the football academies. New personal , etc Liverpool brought in the former assistant manager at Sao Paulo in Brazil to head up the U12 development. Because they had to start young can't teach an old dog new tricks and mentality. The best academy in my opinion is Chelsea and Arsenal in the UK. That's why the game has changed in England for English players they needed to compete with overwhelming number of overseas players that totally dominate the EPL. |
