Why must rice production in Nigeria be a determinant for total ban of rice importation..

So you go extreme to protect a policy and then still further throw the nation into chaos.

The borrowers program introduced through cbn can be classified as a failure.. The production still can't feed us..

Now we have food crisis looming to make it all fvckin worse.

It's not my fault if you cant read and comprehend words written clearly.

Serious people are having conversation, when it's time to troll we will leave the floor for you.

Now bounce.

Ambode was the one that started the project and Sanwo-Olu has almost completed it. It's important to remember that Sanwo-Olu was sworn in 2019 and we lost the whole 2020 to Covid.

Operation will most likely start next year as the mill is almost completed.
My point is Ambode started it and will surely be one of his leading project which he would have finished
Same with agric ikorodu road but sanwo olu is having as carry over and no one will blame him if he touch those projects last because he surely have his own projects too
Next year ain't sure for completion then

The $328m SAPZ prog is a superb game-changer, unlocking the gate to inclusive & sustainable agro-industrial development in Nigeria. Excited about the massive wealth & economic prosperity that’ll now rise from the formerly impoverished rural communities.

You are a fool I'm sorry.. Because your policy on growing our own food seems to be the reason you totally ban importation.

Now the food growth has shown to be useless because people are having to spend more on buying home grown.

What was the necessity for it? Did Nigerians ever cry to the government that we importing food affected our daily lives?

When you refuse to bring your conversations to the reality of the everyday Nigerian, you think yourself a smart person..

I've told you.. Each time you talk here= value lost

we supply electricity to either niger or benin - not sure

there is a 330kv line at birnin kebbi that goes in that direction.

to clarify, its an agreement to prevent damming of the river niger from that side. and this has been on for as long as kainji dam has been in existence. before we assume this is another of buhari's sweetheart niger deals.

if they dam the river niger from their side, kainji dam is useless

While I agree that people should be able to buy and eat whatever they want as long as they can afford it, theres nothing wrong with a protectionist policy if done at the right time.

The problem was that the ban on imported rice should've been gradual. Though the ban has helped farmer greatly and has greatly improved our local production but it's still not yet enough to feed the whole population. Without the ban, the local farmers and investors cant compete with Thai rice because it's cheaper to import it than to produce here so the govt made a decision to protect local farmers from going out of business.

The main reason why price of rice is currently soaring is basically because of Arbitrage.
My point exactly… we are not there yet to be banning rice importation.

It’s just like telling a sick person not to see a doctor yet and instead wait for his sibling in med school to graduate and treat him.

Our decision makers are not bright

My point is the banning of importation was a foolish decision... And it has yielded nothing good for the common man.

Or has your life been better since it was banned?

as long as this country continues to import items that can be made here, the naira will continue to slide against the dollar.

importation economics is not economic policy. especially for a country with only one stable export

importation is NOT viable business - and it will fk up your country in the long run. this is already happening.

the government has the right idea, but the wrong implementation. or maybe it is NIGERIANs as usual, who fked it up because importation is quick and easy money. setting up a farm, building a rice mill, setting up distribution channels - this takes time, discipline and money. but bringing in a container of rice - quick money, but at the expense of our dwindling reserves, and our food security

And I can see how the naira has fought so well against the dollar since the importation ban grin.

Before ban, 300 or so to 1 dollar..

After ban 800 and rising to 1 dollar grin..

Like i said.. Policies are beautiful to defend now.. But we can see the effect on everyday people..

So did this ban work at all?

Nothing supporters of this Satanic party no go defend. In a country where minimum wage na 30k, dollar is 750 you're still asking people to sacrifice.

What sacrifice has the useless administration made for it's people? What have they done for flooding victims and victims of other crisis.

I hope the agbado and porridge you sold your conscience for is worth it

Politicians with billions in looted funds did not see it fit to start producing rice…

Why won’t price go up when there’s scarcity and in our case, government created the scarcity and still did not intervene

An oil producing nation without light and imports petrol suddenly wants to raise a magic wand and farm rice to feed 200million people

If you had a billion dollars, would you risk farming in Nigeria with the farmers and herdsmen clashes…

you are absolutely right. it is better to let this country go completely bankrupt

let us continue with importation economy. let us import even toothpicks, rather than have native industries

the countries people are all japaing to for economic succor , do you see them importing basic foodstuff?

where do you think all this pressure on the naira is coming from?

maybe dangote should also subscribe to that thinking - why should i build a refinery when there are pipeline vandals, hostile communities, etc?

and in your mind, it is solely because of rice?

https://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/bot.asp

for years, different cbn governors depleted our foreign reserves to defend the naira. now there are no foreign reserves left, ad our income has shrunk.

THIS WAS INEVITABLE. this is what sanusi warned about repeatedly.

let us continue to import everything, and we will soon see the naira drop to N2000/dollar.

It's not possible to defend this government and sound like a sane person. In a country that has not managed security you're talking of farming. How do you farm with herdsman threat on your neck everyday, to transport your produce to the market or cross country with fear cos of insecurity

No plan no coherence everything is just to ban, ban, ban
