I think the issue with language is determined by where you find yourself; the kind of people in your community.

English is the most accepted, and what everybody understands. So in a community where you have Igbos, Deltans, Efiks, Hausa, etc, the ideal language you should speak is English. Anything short of this may come out offensive, or make you the odd one.

But i don't think you should translate that to them not taking pride in adopting their language. It's mostly determined by where they live
Mostly, governors in the North address their people in Hausa. But the ones in the South, especially Yorubaland do so in English even when their audience is mainly Yorubas.

Na wetin I dey talk be that as shown by El-Rufai in that video.

He should concentrate on his calling, otemizing the Believers, cos his take so far is seriously dropping his ratings on this Board.

Nna ehn. How can someone be so confident in ignorance? When yoruba is the official language of communication in schools. The only time you hear English is when there's a teacher in class. The moment He/She leaves, everyone reverts to status quo

Elrufai was probably talking to an Hausa media or was in the midst of his kinsmen

You shouldn't use that as any yardstick naa
Read my initial posts where I said even among Yorubas.

No, omo nna nimi. Educated people in those states (and they've many of them) give preference to English.
most people in Eksu/ado ekiti and akure/owo/Ondo town/futa speaks Yoruba first lool, if you mean educated lecturers and professors I understand but most students and youths speaks Yoruba. I agree that Hausas loves their language alot but as much as I've been across the SW it's the same except from Lagos and some places in Ogun.

https://twitter.com/PeterObi/status/1593966662893670401?t=Ve8SGI9N7-VJtpzDu87bpw&s=19

But he used Odili as an example of people on Rivers state who knew him[Obi] in school.

His comeback is a very competent speech renovation though. I give it a 6.5/10.

Pls that's not true for ekiti and Ondo especially Ondo people.... I repeat they are rooted deep in yoruba culture.

And yes I agree I shouldn't have mentioned South and North America because of TAST, but still Yoruba culture is more in Europe than any indigenous culture in the continent. The Igbos here in UK infact many of them speak Yoruba than their own language. I find it surprising that you think Yorubas don't like to speak their language or culture except from Oyo and Osun.. lol where are you based pls?
I've lived in Lagos, Osun, and Oyo, and observed their disposition toward the indigenous culture comparatively.

I've friends from Ondo and Ekiti that we schooled together.

I initially quoted a post about El-Rufai addressing some people in Hausa. Is he a teenager?

My posts are centered on the older ones.

Irrespective of the age group you were addressing, Yoruba is still the widely spoken language among yorubas.

Even here in PH, I've never seen two Yorubas talk to each other in English. Now imagine what happens in those states you mentioned.

So Wike yesterday said people has been asking him where he is getting money to do all the projects he's doing.

He said Buhari was the one that paid all the backlog of the 13% derivation to all the Niger Delta State from 1999. You begin to wonder what exactly other State Governors did with their own allocations.

Months ago, Wike also said Buhari FG refunded Rivers State Govt 78bn for federal roads done by previous River State govt.

Please help me ask Diri what he is using his own money for? Him use him own dey Drink Schnapps and other dry gin. At least Wike come out talk true.

yes I know Oyo people are probably the most pro-yoruba and Osun has ancient kingdoms and festivals that promotes Yoruba culture... Same in Ondo and rural places in ekiti, Owo, Idanre, Akoko, Ondo town, Okitipupa, these places still speak their own dialects self lol...

Yoruba is vernacular in private schools, even in public schools as well. English is the primary language, and you're seen as dull if you can't speak simple English and you converse in Yoruba most times.

Tell me why most primary and secondary students would consider their mother tongue vernacular that's punishable if you speak it. That's the general belief.

Anyway you dey yab nonsense sha, when I already said my demography is the older ones, which was why I quoted El-Rufai in my initial post.

PMB has been fair to each and everyone of them.

The question we should be asking is what are the other states doing with their allocations.

The yoruba by itself is vernacular so saying they consider their mother tongue vernacular makes no sense. What would they have considered it? Binocular?

Yoruba is so dominant in the southwest that you have incorporate Yoruba into your music if you want to have any chance of blowing.

Afrobeats is pretty much urbanised Yoruba music.

English is our official language and teachers mostly teach in English.

The moment the teacher step out of the class, you can guess the default language everyone will revert to. (I'm speaking about public schools)

I no know where you see Otem for here. E be like say you like that name.

What I'm saying is what the guy has said himself. Why would Yoruba teachers (the common practice) punish students for their mother tongue (vernacular)?

They prefer students speak English most times while in school.

Why punish a student for speaking his mother tongue (vernacular)? A Hausa man would never do that.

That's the crux of my argument.
